TP Link WR541G Wireless Router - Allow Desktop (PC3) To Access Internet?

Jan 14, 2011

I have managed to get the wireless portion of my router working for the two wireless laptops in my house (one is Win XP, the other Linux) and am now trying to connect via rj45 ports + ethernet cat5e cable, my router and desktop computer that is running Windows XP. My connection type, set when I setup my wireless router, is pppoe.I have my router connected to a SpeedStream Modem, my ISP is Bell.I am worried that I will have to purchase a hub/switch in order to allow the desktop (PC3) to access the internet, although it seems to me (from reading other internet postings) that what I am attempting to do should work with just the modem+router setup that I have.I haven't worked with Windows LAN networks before (wired, not wireless) I have only dealt with my laptop's wireless internet connections and it seems much simpler to deal with than wired lan connections.

TP-LINK (TL-WR541G / TL-WA500G) Repeater Not Connecting?

Dec 31, 2011

My setup consists of the following: TP-LINK Router Model No. TL-WR541G and TP-LINK Wireless Repeater Model No. TL-WA500G.I've set the Wireless Mode Settings to Universal Repeater and turned on MAC filtering. My problem is that when I connect to the wireless repeater with a phone or tablet (both working on android) it just wont connect. It gets stuck on "obtaining ip address". The wireless repeater works fine with any laptop, pc, netbook etc. I made sure that all the MAC Addresses are entered correctly. Also the phone and tablet connect fine to the router, but when the router is out of range and it tries to connect to the repeater it doesnt work. I tried all the basic troubleshooting techniques i.e. turning off wifi, turning off repeater & router.

TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless :: WR841ND / WR541G - Configuring 2 Routers To One Cable Modem

Mar 29, 2013

Region : UnitedStates
Model : TL-WR841ND
Hardware Version : V8
Firmware Version :
ISP : optimum online
I have two wireless routers:
TP Link TL-WR841ND
TP Link TL-WR541G

I would like to:

use the TL-WR541G for my children wireless laptop, wireless ipad and wireless iphones.
I can turn this unit off at a specific time each evening as I wish.

The WR841ND is used for my wireless laptop, wired iMac, wired Roku stream player and wired Voip adapter.

I tried a few things but really do not know what I am doing and I cannot get both wireless routers to access the internet.

What I tried so far:

Cable modem ethernet out to the input on the WR841ND router. took one of the four hardwire outputs from the WR841ND and ran into the input on the WR541G I powered on the cable booted... i then powered each router up and waited for each to boot. I launched web browser and navigated to : this allowed me to setup the WR841ND router.

it's current settings:
Firmware Version: 3.13.27 Build 121101 Rel.38183n
Hardware Version: WR841N v8 00000000
WAN type: dynamic IP
LAN IP address:
subnet mask:
DHCP Server: enabled
Start IP:
End IP:

How do I set up the second router? I tried to disable the DHCP server on router 2 (WR541g) and change the IP but don't know what to change it to.

TP-Link Dual-Band Wireless :: Use WDR4300 As Switch Rather Than Router?

Dec 6, 2012

Region : UnitedStates
Model : TL-WDR4300
Hardware Version : Not Clear
Firmware Version :
ISP : Verizon DSL

My DSL connection comes into our house in the basement and the DSL modem came with a router included. I bought the WDR4300 for the higher speed wireless connections and the gigabit ports. I really don't need the "router" functionality. I would like to put the WDR4300 on the second floor to give (hopefully) the broadest wireless range. However, I would like all my PCs (including those wirelessly connected) to be on the same sub-net. Is there a way to configure the WDR4300 so it acts like a switch rather than a router?

D-Link DIR-615 :: Wired LAN - Switch Of Router Just Stops Moving Traffic

Mar 29, 2013

Every so ofter, the switch of the router just stops moving traffic between the LAN and to/from internet, though the WiFi keeps working and can still use internet.

I can still use the router's switch, and ping other computers on the local LAN, what happens is that the router stop routing wired traffic from/to internet, the rest of the issue is still the same, I opened reddit on my smartphone and there it was working via WiFi, but the would have none of it for the computers on wired LAN, not even accessing the router's page or telnet.

It is like some service or bridge between the switch LAN and the router itself dies... I'm still clueless.

The only "pattern" that I see is that my desktop is on line, because I can be not at home for 12+ HS and I can connect remotely to the server (rd p and trans droid) so I know it has internet access, but sometimes I think this happens when I turn on my desktop, like just now, this morning, but again, I feel is not every morning, trying to be more scientific about it I come here after every time it happens to record it, and also set the record straight about the issue description.

So, assuming it is not a hardware issue, because I did not had this problem in all 2011 and 2012, I do not overclock the router neither use other than default TX power level.

- How do I begin diagnosing this issue?
- If it is a known issue with this builds? I could no find it.

My goal is to be able to provide info for debugging the problem and possible finding a fix/workaround it. If it is indeed hardware failing, how do I even begin to diagnose it from that POV? The message is empty...

Even with the new build r21061 still happened two more times. Now the real problem to me, is that I cant even revert it to stock firmware, I tried even with:

- unplug router
- press and hold reset
- plug router
- keep pressing until power led blinks orange
- enter (PC must have static IPA, i use

Can't open in FF nor chrome and does not even ping. [URL]. I just want to get it back to stock or do not hang up the switch-to-router(ing).

Cisco WAN :: 3640 Router / Catalyst 2912 Switch - Ethernet Link?

Feb 8, 2011

I have a 3640 router with 4 Fast Ethernet Network Modules (1fe-tx, 1fe2w & 2fe2w-v2) and a Catalyst 2912 switch.  I can not acheive a link between the 2 devices. All four will not get a link light and the interface(s) show no errors. If I plug the Router nic  into virtually any other switch or workstation it works flawlessly. I put a switch between the catalyst and the 3640 and it works without error.
Steps I have tried...
1. Configure interfaces on both Switch and Router to Auto Speed, Auto Duplex2. Configure interfaces on both Switch and Router to speed 100, Full Duplex3. Try Both Crossover and Straight-Through verified working cables.4. Tried a second 2912xl-en switch
Both 2912 switches are factory defaulted, other then the changes I made to the speed and duplex to try to get them connected. Both the router and switches have been doing other functions (seperatlly) within our network for years? So my question is...Why is the NICs in the router compatible with every other vendor other than CISCO?

Can't Connect Through Switch TP-Link TL-SG1005D?

Mar 14, 2012

I added a switch (TP-Link TL-SG1005D plugged into a D-Link DGL-4100 router)) so I could add a computer or two to my network. I have my Vonage modem plugged into the switch and it works fine, but when I try to plug a computer into it, nothing. I've been trying to use an XP machine that I rebuilt, and I keep getting the "limited or no connectivity" message.

I've tried all the fixes I could find for that, and still no joy. I even plugged it right to the modem with no luck so I tried plugging my Windows 7 machine into the switch and it couldn't find the network either, but it works fine plugged into the router. When I go into the router, it has an IP address assigned to the switch, but the phone modem does not show up, where it did when plugged directly into the router. Is this normal?

Am I missing something simple here as far as the switch goes? The XP machine won't find the DHCP server and has the 169.254.XXX.XXX IP address with a MAC address of FF-FF-FF-FF-FF-FF. I've tried Microsoft's hotfix and releasing and renewing the IP...nothing. I know that's separate problem than the switch.

The problem is , I can not access internet  behind the telesyn switch, PC2 and PC3 have no access to Html servers on the Wan, except if I define PC2 or PC3 , only 1 allowed at a time, as DMZ. If I plug PC2 or PC3 directly in  DIR-601 port everything is ok.

Why DIR601 port connected to a switch does not work  the same way than conected to a PC. Any solution to give Internet access to PC behind a switch ?

NB: This work if I replace DIR601 with DIR620 router.

I'd consider something higher end, but don't think I would need the features or know how to manage it.

TP-Link 300Mbps Wireless :: Using TL-WR1043ND As A Switch?

Dec 24, 2012

Region : UnitedKingdom
Model : TL-WR1043ND
Hardware Version : v1
Firmware Version :

My house has thick internal walls, so WiFi does not propagate easily. I am fortunate to have FTTP. Therefore I have the following setup: At one end of the house there is a Genexis HRG1000 Fibre Optic Modem / Router with WiFi and 4 ethernet ports. One of its ethernet ports links to a Devolo 200Mb homeplug and there is a matching homeplug at the other end of the house which is linked to a WR1043ND. We have tried two configurations each with various settings. If we link into the WAN port it creates a separate network which cannot be seen from the fibre modem end (since the 196.168.1.n addresses are non-routing) and although this works, we cannot stream / transfer files from the PC (connected to the fibre modem by ethernet) to the smart TV connected to the WR1043ND. The TV can "see" the internet and things like iPlayer work. Various other gadgets can connect either by ethernet or WiFi and get successful internet access. Alternatively If we link into one of the LAN ports, AND disable both the DNS service and the DHCP server in the WR1043ND it all appears as one network, but although it is disabled, all the gadgets and computers try to use the DNS in the WR1043ND rather than that in the fibre modem and consequently there is no internet connectivity. We have tried several combinations of fixed and dynamic IP addresses, rebooting the WR1043ND and the PC etc. but nothing seems to work. What does work is giving both WiFi routers the same SID and password so that moving from one part of the house to another with, say, a smart phone transfers what connectivity there is seamlessly.

D-Link DIR-655 :: WHS Disconnecting Via DGS-1008G 8-Port Switch?

Dec 21, 2011

I have been struggling with my WHS 2003 (Acer EasyStore 340) for about a month.  It stated prompting me with port forwarding errors (DIR 655 router) a while back signaling that I would not be able to access my WHS via the internet. I ignored the prompts for some time as  was not actually using the internet connectivity to my WHS.I then added a D-Link DGS-1008G 8-Port Gigabit Desktop Switch to the DIR 655 Router as I ran out of LAN ports when I added my HTPC to my devices.then my WHS started disconnecting from my home network.  I could not remote into it wirelessly (via latop) using Remote Connection in Windows 7 nor could I access is via the drives I had mapped to it via my HTPC (wired connection to same router).i only know there is an issue when the server disconnects. As it does not have a dedicated keyboard or monitor I can only see the desktop when I remote into it wirelessly from my laptop.  When it disconnects I can see the WHS icon in my tray go from Green to Black.  And when I try to remote in, I get errors saying the WHS cannot be found.i started to think that maybe it was my DIR 655 Router.  I did the following with no success:

- Changed LAN ports
- Changed network cables
- Upgraded the firmware to 1.35NA
- Reset to factory settings
- performed 30-30-30 reset
- physically forwarded ports for WHS (80/40/4125)

Given that I cannot solve the connection problem with the above router fixes, am I to conclude that the issue is with my WHS?

I previously used the DIR-615 with my high speed broadband connection. However I had to move to a new house and here I can only get WiMAX. I just plug it in and it'll connect automatically to the WiMAX signal. It has 2 LAN ports but no WAN port. From my understanding of networking, I have to turn off DHCP on my WiMAX modem, put it in the same IP range as my DIR-615 (, and disable UPNP and NATPMP. After this I'm stuck. How do I tell my DIR-615 to use the WiMAX modem as it's WAN connection?Should I reserve an IP for the modem in my DIR-615?
