Upstairs I have my internet coming in with a Comcast modem/ router ( I will be bridging this b'cuz it sucks as a router). Also, I have my Dir 655 upstairs that I will use for wireless. and I have my dir615 downstairs and I want to use it as a basic switch/wired router. How do I set up my dir615 as a switch/wired router?
View 1 RepliesEvery so ofter, the switch of the router just stops moving traffic between the LAN and to/from internet, though the WiFi keeps working and can still use internet.
I can still use the router's switch, and ping other computers on the local LAN, what happens is that the router stop routing wired traffic from/to internet, the rest of the issue is still the same, I opened reddit on my smartphone and there it was working via WiFi, but the would have none of it for the computers on wired LAN, not even accessing the router's page or telnet.
It is like some service or bridge between the switch LAN and the router itself dies... I'm still clueless.
The only "pattern" that I see is that my desktop is on line, because I can be not at home for 12+ HS and I can connect remotely to the server (rd p and trans droid) so I know it has internet access, but sometimes I think this happens when I turn on my desktop, like just now, this morning, but again, I feel is not every morning, trying to be more scientific about it I come here after every time it happens to record it, and also set the record straight about the issue description.
So, assuming it is not a hardware issue, because I did not had this problem in all 2011 and 2012, I do not overclock the router neither use other than default TX power level.
- How do I begin diagnosing this issue?
- If it is a known issue with this builds? I could no find it.
My goal is to be able to provide info for debugging the problem and possible finding a fix/workaround it. If it is indeed hardware failing, how do I even begin to diagnose it from that POV? The message is empty...
Even with the new build r21061 still happened two more times. Now the real problem to me, is that I cant even revert it to stock firmware, I tried even with:
- unplug router
- press and hold reset
- plug router
- keep pressing until power led blinks orange
- enter 192.168.0.1 (PC must have static IPA, i use 192.168.0.200)
Can't open 192.168.0.1 in FF nor chrome and does not even ping. [URL]. I just want to get it back to stock or do not hang up the switch-to-router(ing).
I have an airport extreme router connected in my basement. My family room Ethernet connection is connected directly to the airport extreme. I can access the internet by Ethernet in the family room just fine.What I want to do is use a WRT31N as a switch in my family room so I can connect Mulitple Ethernet devices to the network. I'm having a hard time doing this. How to set up the linksys router? The airport extreme ip address is 10.0.1.1. I tried setting the linksys to 10.0.1.2 and turning off dhcp, but didn't work.

A week ago my internet went down due to heavy rain and technical support had a home visit yesterday to re-activate my internet connection. My net connection came back smoothly using a direct connection from modem to laptop.When I tried to connect the modem to my wifi router, the internet was not detected. Even if I reset the router settings, no internet connection was detected. Initially, I thought there is a problem with my wifi router so I connected the modem to our Edimax wired router but still it could not detect internet access. Every time I open a browser while connected to a router, this message is shown (see attached screenshot).
I tried using another ISP, Wi-Tribe with both wired and wifi routers and everything worked well. So now I assume the problem lies with my SmartBro ISP. I called the ISP hotline but they told me that they do not provide support for router connection problems; only with single, direct connect to a PC.I asked a neighbor IT technician to look into my problem but he too could not solve the problem.
the Xbox part was a windows thing. The router, modem, computer, and monitor, are all on one powerbar. I have used the used-to-be-wired computer (I needed the ethernet cord for something else, haven't gotten around to plugging it back in.) and the wireless laptop loses connection periodically. ALWAYS lose connection on bootup. and also when doing power consuming things. SO, I believe it is a lack of power being sent to the router. wired connections would use less, thats why they are still active, but I assume the wireless transmitter needs more energy in order to function properly. I haven't used the old computer in a awhile now, but I assume if I plug the router into another outlet/curcuit I the problem wouldnt occur. Might need someone wiht more knowledge to confirm this, but I'm fairly certain this was the cause.

My DSL connection comes into our house in the basement and the DSL modem came with a router included. I bought the WDR4300 for the higher speed wireless connections and the gigabit ports. I really don't need the "router" functionality. I would like to put the WDR4300 on the second floor to give (hopefully) the broadest wireless range. However, I would like all my PCs (including those wirelessly connected) to be on the same sub-net. Is there a way to configure the WDR4300 so it acts like a switch rather than a router?
Is there a way to set up these ap's to bridge. Ie two buildings 100 yards apart Both buildings have wired clients into a Cisco poe switch. Want to plug the ap's into each switch and have them bridge the data and even better if they could trunk vlans. No wireless clients at all. Strictly a point to point bridge. Also will they need to be lwaps or standalone APs. If they are lwaps can I flash to standalone ?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had my DIR-825 for a year and half. My computer that is wired directly to the router keeps losing the connection to the router - unable to obtain an address. All of my other devices (that are connected via wireless) still hold the connection with no issues. I've checked the cable, unplugged/plugged back into the router, and it shows connection on the network card on the back of the computer.I have used the system interface to ensure the address is a valid one. I have powered up and down the computer multiple times and have also powered down and up both the router and the cable modem.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter 5 years of services my DIR-655 begun acting up yesterday; first of it begun by getting REALLY slow, it could take up to 25 seconds to login into the software and up to 30+ seconds just going from one menu to another, on some instances connection (wired) to the router was lost. This morning it started dropping all connections, wired or not; first my iphone then my WDTV, after that it's been pretty much random connections. On one given moment wired works but not wireless, then wireless works but not wired and sometimes I get both but for 3 or 4 minutes.I've reset the router to factory settings, plugged/unplugged, changed cables, network adapters on desktops and the problem persists.

I originally installed my DIR-655 as a wireless access point, not using the wired ports at all, and it worked fine like this. Trouble with my trying to set up my Bell router/modem with port forwarding prompted me to change my configuration so my Bell router /modem is now only a modem, and I am using the DIR-655 as a wired as well as wireless router. I have a separate network server and so don't use the DHCP on the DIR-655, and I only use one port to connect to a separate gigabit switch that serves the network.
I am finding that the wireless connection works really well with the few wireless devices I have connected (mainly an apple tv, and a MAC book) but my wired connections to the internet "feel" slow, sometimes with a significant delay before links to sites are established. I click a link, and wait for several seconds before the site shows up in the browser; sometimes after that the same site seems to respond at normal speeds, other times there are added delays.
Is there something in the DIR-655 settings that would cause this? The wireless connections seem fine.
Should I be looking at a new router/modem (rather than separate boxes)? If so what would be the equivalent D-Link model?
My Dlink DIR-655 is hardware ver B1 and firmware 2.00. I found the UPNP cannot cross between wired and wireless network. It is fine if both UPnP server and renderor are on either network. There is no problem on other protocol, such as SAMBA from my notebook connected via Wireless to the QNAP NAS connected via Wired to the 655.

It stops connecting to Internet randomly i.e. any URL typed in from the browser times out.I connect various devices such as desktop, laptop, ipad2 over wired and wireless connections and the behavior is the same from all devices when this problem occurs. If I make a direct connection to the DLS modem, it works fine for the whole day, without these issues.I also observed IP address conflict messages and my desktop does not connect to Internet if I am running VPN on my laptop, at the same time, occasionally.When this occurs, I am able to login to the router and can see the WAN status and the DHCP address being allocated to the router. I can even do DHCP release and renew, but that does not fix the problem.

My xbox 360 can't even stream HD without buffering every few mins. It also will just stop, and be unable to see the media for a couple minutes (when doing HD).I have wireless setup as WPA2, and the devices I use wirelessly are N devices. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have tried 2 DIR-655 routers now, revision B1, firmware versions 2.04, 2.07, 2.08beta and a number of laptops and wireless mini pci-e nics and I simply CAN'T get faster than about 10 megabytes/sec transfer speed from a wireless laptop to a wired gigabit desktop.
Is this just simply a limitation of these routers? Can they simply not transfer data at decent speeds? I've seen real world transfer speeds near 12 megabytes/sec on a DIR-615 and I assumed the limiting factor there was the 100megabit wired connection.

I have recently had trouble with my wireless D-link WBR-1310 Router. Two days ago everything was working fine, my wireless connection from the router to my macbook was fine and the wired connection to my desktop pc was also fine. I went to bed and when I woke up the next day everything was still ok. About 3 hours after I had first turned on the PC that next day my wired connection started spiking and dropping connection frequently, maybe every 5-10 minutes or so. I play world of warcraft and I also use Mumble VoiP Program and my pings in both are over 800 constantly now making it impossible to stay connected to either program. Sometimes it will drop down to regular numbers (25-50ms, I play on eastern servers as I am in NY) but then rapidly jumps back up into the 1,000's. My wireless connection is still fine though nothing has happened to that, only my wired connection is messing up.
I've tried changing my speed and duplex settings on my onboard NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet which is what im using but it hasn't worked. When connecting directly through the modem the problem seems to stop so its definitely the router.

I have internet thru Century Link (DSL). I also have a Netgear N-300 wireless router. My computer is 4 years old and is an HP with a G wireless adapter buit-in. Until yesterday, my provided internet speed was up to 7mbps. I received the same speed regardless of whether my computer was plugged in directly to the modem (1), plugged directly into the router (2), or wirelessly. We just upgraded our internet to 40mbps. Now, I get the 40 mbps when my computer is plugged into the modem or router, but wirelessly I only get about 4 mbps, 1/10th of what I get with wired.

I've installed it, run the wizard etc but it doesn't work...not even wired. I've tried various cable configurations and I get nothing. Both cables are good and work just fine connected to the modem. I've reset it a few times, upgraded the firmware and still nothing...I'd think I'd at least get it to work hard wired. My laptop can see the network I set up even...but no data transmission. I'm not a wireless expert, but I need to become one fast!

And and all wireless devices can see each other and all wired devices can see each other....but the wired cant see the wireless and vis versa.
The wireless devices (W7 and Vista laptops) can see the wired devices when they are plugged in. But my phone and Galaxy Tab can only see whatever wireless devices there are (cant be plugged in). Even my wired Samsung TV cant see the shares on the Tab or wireless laptops (and vis versa). So, its certainly not a firewall or OS config issue.
Now, I made sure they are all connecting via the main SSID and not the "isolated" Guest SSID....but its acting like the main SSID is isolated from the wired LAN somehow.
Firmware 1.34. IPs for the wired and wireless devices are all in the 1.2 - 1.50 range.
I'm trying to re-setup this EOL camera on a new router.I've been able to reset the cam to factory defaults and see it wired using dhcp. I then was able to change the address to a static address, still wired and still can see it with IE. However when I disconnect the rj-45 cable, power down and restart, I can't access the cam.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having issues figuring out how i can make AppleTV,Airprint, Airplay, etc show up on Ipads that are connected to the wireless network. The controller is at a main site which is seperated by 2800 series routers at the remote sites over 100Mbs links. Ipads connect and tunnell back to the main site. I've tried enabling FlexConnect but the devices still get the main site's addressing so i'm guessing they are still tunneling unless the AP loses connectivity to the controller. I have two SSIDs (staff and students). I have tested with just setting the staff to FlexConnect. Do I need to set both SSIDs to FlexConnect to make them dump data locally? AppleTVs are connected wired to the local networks and get addressing associated with that building.

Both computers can upload and download as expected from the internet. Transfers between the two computers though are slow. Both computers are loaded with Windows 7. Transferring files to or from the laptop transfers at 1.5MB/sec to 2 MB/sec.
