I bought the Netgear N300 WNR2000v2 today for my laptop (ACER Aspire 5552). Installation was fine but when in try to connect to the router i get a message "Windows was unable to connect to 'SSID Name'. However when i go into routerlogin.net and change the security options to 'None' i get connected to the internet no problem.

Replaced it, the new Netgear router works fine with the internet (cable modem), but the LAN with two computers will not work. The desktop with Windows XP, and a laptop with Windows 7. After runing network setups on both computers several times, I have been unable to reestablish the LAN, however internet access via the router is working. Reinstalled the old router and the LAN works fine, allowing file and printer sharing. Old router is a Netgear WGR614v2, new router is a Netgear WNR2000how to reconfigure the router/computers to get the LAN working again with new router.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have an HP DV7-1135nr running vista 64bit. Due to lack of space and generally needing to be refreshed, I used my recovery CDs to "factory reset" my laptop to the way it was when I bought it. After it finished I attempted to use the Internet wirelessly and it would only connect locally. I chose to repair the signal in the "network and sharing" window and it said it could not communicate with the DNS server. I plugged in the Ethernet cable and it jumped right online. I used windows update and after 4 hours of updates and restarts, I tried wireless again it only connects locally. Back to ethernet I logged onto HP website and tried to scan my computer for driver updates with there tool but the site was down. I checked my adapter and it is an atheros 5007 but when I searched for atheros or atheros drivers I couldn't find anything that seemed legit. They don't have a website? I read forums and found posts of people shutting off a DHCP broadcast flag with good luck. I found a few �having problems with the same adapter as myself but none of this started until I restored it this time. ( I have restored it 2 times before with no problem). My next step was shutting off all the security. It worked and everything was great until i turned the security back on. It reverts back to local only. I tried wpa, wpa2 and no luck. The only thing I can think of is that my drivers are old, I checked the version of windows and it still is on sp1, why hasn't it updated to sp2 yet?

So I changed security to WPA2-PK and afterwards the internet is DEADLY slow. speedtest.net shows me at about 1mbps compared to 13-20 with WEP encryption. Something is obviously wrong here, and I can't figure out what. [code] I'm really puzzled as to why WPA2-PK is so awful. After changing it I can't log back into 192.168.1.1 unless I power cycle the router and connect via wired connection.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just installed DD-WRT, version DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/18/12) std, in a Netgear router model # WNR-2000V3 and so far everything is running good except for the LAN ports which are not working. I don't know what settings I have to change to get it working and I tried a lot of options from the DD-WRT site. I want this router to be an access point but it seems like I can't use the LAN ports at all whatsoever. Could it be that this firmware is no good? If so, is there a way to revert back to the factory NetGear firmware?

I have followed online guides as closely as possible but am still having troubles. My main router is working fine, everything can connect to it and gain access to internet despite having to change the security to WEP to allow for the repeater function to work. Now I am having troubles getting the repeater (WNR2000) to connect to my main router. The ip address of the repeater is listed in the connected devices of the main router and everything is managing to 'find' the repeater just fine but when I connect and put in the WEP key there is no internet connection. I read that a static ip address is needed or something like that but I am completely baffled

My apartment is just far away enough so that I can barely get a signal, so I'm trying to set up a second wireless router (netgear WNR1000v2) in my apartment that will connect to the internet through the first router so I can get a better signal. I do have a way of running an Ethernet cable from the first router to the second in my apartment.

I have a Motorola SBG901 router/gateway that is hooked to my desktop. I recently purchased a Netgear WNR2000 to use as a router to connect to a Blue-Ray player to receive firmware updates wirelessly. On every attempt to access the netgear unit to set it up as a repeater, I get nowhere. I tried hooking the unit up to my laptop and login in under the admin account but again to no avail. I really don't want to have to disconnect the SBG901.

I'm using Qwest internet with Actiontec PK5000, and I have to use my Netgear WNR2000v3 as a repeater.The Netgear is working as a repeater however I can't get internet through the LAN connections on the repeater. After checking the settings over and over again I'm beginning to think the repeater will only work with wifi. I need to hook up my desktop in the office, DirectTV, and Blueray player LAN connections to my repeater.

Router?The house has three active laptops, all of which are working perfectly fine. This new computer,however, is a desktop, and I am trying to connect to my house's internet through a USB stick device that transmits the signal (D-link, model DWA-110). I know for a fact that this device works for two reasons. Firstly, I've used it in another laptop, and more strangely, it works on this new computer sometimes too.After about half an hour of random methods to make a connection stick, it might connect. And it lasts until the computer goes to standby, or is turned off. This is just random stuff through the network and sharing centre part of the control panel.Nothing ever works twice, and I haven't been able to replicate it for about a week. It successfully connects, and the connection is real because I can access the internet momentarily. But it always just disconnects again. I've tried it in every USB port, too.The signal strength is excellent, and when it connects it works great. It just almost always fails to.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOur ISP provided a DSL modem/router (Netopia) that I connected to the Netgear wireless router with dd-wrt flashed. All I've done so far is connected the two. I have a connection, but I want to know if it's possible or advisable to configure everything from the Netgear router. But following the instructions here[URL], it seems I have to configure DNS and such using the Netopia router. I don't have a full grasp on how to use them together the correct way - like using the Netopia as an ethernet bridge.

I have one pc connected to the WRT54G2 that gets 20Mbps and another connected to the WNR2000 thats only getting 5Mbps. I realized recently I have them connected to each other wrong. Or so I assume. I have the fourth port on the WRT54G2 connected to the internet port on the WNR2000 and it's set to "Automatic Configuration - DHCP" and "DHCP Server" is enabled. From what I read one or both of those is supposed to be set to manual.

View 1 Replies View RelatedToday a bought a brand new Netgear WNR2000 router.Upon setup the wifi was working correctly. All of the lights where active and it seemed everything was in order.Because the power cord was in the way I moved it and plugged it into a different powerpoint. From then onwards my router has not been working. Only three of seven lights are active (green).
I have tried unplugging and replugging all network cords. I have also turned it on and back off, reset the router and run the initial installation program thrice.What should I do now? Nothing so far has effected it. The computer I am installing it on is running Windows XP and the laptop I intend to use the wifi on is Windows 7.
Here is my setup:
Netgear WNR2000 router.
Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard connected to router through wireless.
Windows 7 Desktop getting internet through the MBP ethernet.
I can't figure out how to be a part of my "Home Network" with my Win7 Machine so I can see other computers in my house, use my networked printers, etc. I can only see the MBP it is connected to in network panel. I want to be able to stream the movies on this computer to my iPad which is connected to the wireless router.
I'm working with a friend out with his computer, and he can't connect to the internet, but i can.But he uses a different computer system than me and turning on the wireless networking.

Now and then it will connect but not for very long - 10-15 mins max, then connection will be lost even though the signal strength is strong. It sometimes connects after it has been asleep for a while or when it's been turned off.
My flatmates and I recently got Sky broadband - their laptops connect just fine to the internet and they are able to use it without any problems. Mine also connects, but I can't do things like browse or use Skype, etc.When I go into Google Chrome, I'm told there is a DNS error that was unable to be resolved. Mozilla tells me that I have a problem with my server, and IE doesn't work either. Also, I am receiving very few packets. For every 2,000 or so packets that are sent, I only receive 2 or 6. When I click 'repair' I am told that my IP address cannot be renewed. The thing is, the internet works on my netbook at my mother's house, yet it doesn't work in my flat or other places like wifi spots.
I've tried so many things, such as clearing the DNS cache, releasing and renewing IP address, I've set the properties of the wireless connection to obtain DNS and IP automatically, I've tried pinging, I've turned off all my firewalls, I tried system restore, I've fiddled with certain keys in the registry, I even rebooted my entire hard disk last night and it still doesn't work! I'm really at my wit's end with this and I don't know what else to do. The problem is way beyond my comprehension now.
My housemate just got a second hand laptop which i restored to factory settings for him. the computer is running windows vista and everything is working fine, however the computer will connect to the wireless network but wont get any internet. the network itself is fine as we already have 3 computers connected to the internet with no problems.
