Why Dual Ring Network Is Counter Rotating

Jan 31, 2013

In the Dual ring network using the token passing method, we have the primary ring and the secondary one where in the normal situation only the primary ring is carrying the token in one direction and when this ring is down the secondary will start into operation and takes the token and rotate in the inverse direction of the primary to reach its destination. Why the secondary ring doesn't continue in the same direction to the destination?

Cisco WAN :: 3560X With IP Base In The Ring

Dec 27, 2010

I'm planning to use 2 3560X (access switch) on two different locations connected over two 2921 routers in small ring. 3560Xs are directly connected via fiber. Each 3560X is conected to its own 2921, and 2921s are connected together with GRE over IPSec. So they are creating ring.I'm planning to use small area 0 in this scenario. There are less then 200 routes in the network. Will 12.2(55) IP Base on 3560X support this scenario or I will need IP Services image? "OSPF for routed access" is still little vague to me, there are only tipical case study scenarios.

Cisco :: CUCM Feature Ring Like CUCME

May 28, 2012

I've looked in many places but cannot see how or if it is possible to configure a phone, in CUCM to have a feature ring instead of the normal ring.In CUCME you go into the ephone x configuration mode, and assign the DN to the phone with the button xfx command. What this gives you is a slightly different ring tone when a call comes through. If I am not mistaken it is the same ringtone they use on the show "24".Is there a way to do this "feature" with CUCM?

Transfer IPTV Signal To All Sites Along The Ring?

Apr 26, 2011

My topology is a physical ring, and I need transfer IPTV signal to all site along the ring. For example:

A (headend)--- B --- C --- D
|______________________|
Note: -----: have spoke-mesh defination
_____: no spoke-mesh defination to prevent loop

So, with MPLS/VPLS I can implement it. With spoke and mesh defination, the traffic can transfer form A to B, C or D as drop-continute action in ring topology (between different VC). Everything is good, FRR can work very fast. But when the topology have a failure link, for example the link between B and C, at that time the traffic will go from A to B then B come back to A and A --- D ---C. This action is so stupid, because it can increase delay, jiiter in network. On the other hand, when the node failure ( B failure), C will loss the IPTV signal, even the link from A--D--C always good.

Cisco :: RSTP Configuration - 14 Switches Interconnected In Ring?

Apr 2, 2013

I need to setup a layer 2 network consisting of 14 switches interconnected in a ring. Obviously, the design of 14 switches in a ring network is dumb, not here to debate that. Unfortunately, it HAS to be a ring. I've been researching the best way to configure RSTP for this. From everything I've read all I really need to do is configure Primary/Secondary root bridge in the center, and change the Maximum Age field to at least 16 seconds? From what I've read you want a minimum of 3 second buffer + 1 second for each hop due to message age being added by each switch hop?

Cisco Switches :: Configuring ESW-520-48P For VoIP / Ring Central

Apr 26, 2011

I am looking for a Best Practices or a few places to pay attention to in the Cisco ESW-520-48P switch I have. My VoIP solution is RingCentral, and while they are Cisco phones, I've been hestitant to setup VLANs etc. the way I am used to. Plus setting up Auto QoS seems different than what I am used to with a 3750 switch.

Right now I've left the Smartports Wizard alone, and none of the ports are configured. There are no VLANs or QoS on the LAN currently.

What I was running into were calls cutting out where one side wouldn't hear the other anymore, but the call would remain connected. However, this has happened in this small 15 person office, when there is only one employee here after hours, talking on the phone. There isn't any heavy network traffic, because I have network monitoring showing me low usage (no streaming music, videos, or anything else).

This switch has a Gb connection to a Linksys SR2024 (the server switch), which is also set at Factory Defaults. I mention that because I recently bypassed the ESW-520-48P, and plugged one phone into that switch and the RingCentral phone worked fine for outside calls.

Is there something besides QoS that I should look at in the ESW-520 switch that might be causing a checkpoint of some sort, or interrupting VoIP traffic that I need to configure or disable?

And are there any Best Practices or scenario guides for this switch? I found the Admin Guide, but it really just explains every option in the GUI for the switch. And it seems all of my CCNA training isn't working with going in and quickly troubleshooting this switch besides knowing that something in it could be hanging it up.

Cisco Switches :: Connectivity With SGE2000 In Ring Topology?

Oct 10, 2012

I´ve got a strange problem with the connectivity within a ring topology. There are five switches from the SGE2000 series and one SG200-50.The SG200-50 is the root bridge and RSTP is configured. From the root bridge switch (Switch 5) I can ping Switch 0.But I cannot ping Switch 0 from PC0.

On the other hand I am able to ping all other Switches (1-5) from PC0.In addition to that I can establish a RDP connection from PC0 to Server0.This tells me that there is no general problem with the connection from PC0 to the Switch0.

Right now when I want to configure Switch0 the only way is to connect to Server0 first. But we have to move Server0 and this is why I want to manage Switch0 from PC0 like any other Switch on that network.

How To Set Up Dual Network Adapters

I just upgraded his personal computer. It has an internal wireless card and we have a USB wireless adapter installed. What is the proper way to configure one adapter to connect to the network (via the existing linksys router) and the other adapter to connect to the ATT Hotspot? The goal being able to access the internet from the PC while still being connected to the network. Not interested in sharing the internet connection across the network or anything. It works sometimes, but establishing and maintaining a working connection to both simultaneously is not consistent. From the internet research I've done, it seems like there can be issue with the IP addresses, but I can't find a tutorial for my exact situation.

Cisco :: Dual SSID (with Dual VLAN) On AiroNet 1130?

Dec 17, 2012

how to change our wireless setup. Currently, we have 2 Cisco AiroNet 1130 WAP's in the office that go directly into the 2 POE ports on our Cisco ASA 5500. These WAP's have 1 SSID and are using WEP for security. After demonstrating the flaws of WEP to my boss, he has agreed that we should use something more secure and I've suggested WPA. We want visitors to our office to be able to hop on our wireless but on a separate guest SSID with WEP.

I'd like the internal SSID to route to the ASA and take the default route to the internet (it will be our new fiber connection once it's installed in a couple weeks). The default route is whichever connection is working since our ASA 5500 will fail over when it detects an outage.

I'd like the guest SSID to route to the ASA and then go over our existing cable connection. This connection will be our backup once the fiber connection is installed. Since we won't be using it very often, but will be paying for it, I advised that we send all guest wireless traffic over this connection since 50/5 is plenty for guests.

The current SSID (which will be the internal SSID) has no VLAN. We do currently have a few VLANS on our network, one for voice (.42) and one for data (.100) and the default (.0). What device to I create the VLAN on (Cisco 5500?) and how to I setup the WAP? I need very basic instructions to start and I'm also trying to do this without causing downtime if possible.

I've attached a diagram of what it should look like. Red indicates our internal network and Blue indicates the guest network. I can send screenshots as well.

Cisco WAN :: Dual MPLS Routers Connected To Dual N5K Core

Mar 29, 2012

I wanted to ask a question about the diagram I have included.  We are bringing up 2 MPLS WAN connections and would like some specifics on the best design.  We are using BGP to the providers.  From there we have big questions.  We can run BGP internal and are licensed to do so on the N5K's.  The N5Ks are currently using HSRP for inside LAN clients as default gateway.  We want to load balance and provide redundant routes using a dynamic approach.  Should we use BGP internal utilizing the connections between the routers?  Should we use HSRP on the routers?  How best to get the routes to the N5K and should we be considering this?

Home Network :: Settings With Dual NIC Cards And Camera?

Aug 22, 2011

I am trying to get the Camera to feed back to the router from the second NIC card in the garage computer. The first NIC is communicating fine with the router.

Linksys Settings:
192.168.1.1
255.255.255.0

NIC 1:
192.168.1.145 (static)
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

[code]....

After messing around with many different thoughts and tries, I have successfully contacted 192.168.1.120 (the camera) from garage Computer While camera is connected to NIC 2.Camera wants a crossover cable to function properly and won't accept patch cable, I have tried with new cables...no change it needs crossover cable when connected straight to the NICs.

Camera:
192.168.1.120
255.255.255.0
192.168.1.1

Now the problem is I cannot view or access the Camera from my main Computer inside the house Like I need to....

Home Network With Preference To Dual Band And Gigabit Functionality

Dec 19, 2011

I am currently looking to upgrade and extend my home network with preference to dual band and gigabit functionality. My problem is choosing the correct hardware.I want dual band to separate the network for the kids (a PC, laptop, Xbox 360 and phones all wireless) and set up parental controls and maintain connection speeds etc. For my needs I need the network to be connected to my Onkyo AV Amp (for internet radio and music streaming only), Blu-ray Player, Sky HD satellite box (all wired) and a PS3 (pref wired) and a few wireless devices all N capable. Apart from the obvious gaming capability I would like to be able to stream HD video to the PS3, PC (wired) and laptops via a USB HDD connected for now on an access point or modem router to save on the cost of having separate networked devices.

I currently have ADSL so I was looking to get a dual band gigabit modem router to serve the kids wireless hardware whilst my current hardware is on another floor and is connected with a wire from the existing modem but I have to keep swapping it from PS3 to amp etc.In short I am hoping to have a gigabit, dual band ADSL modem router and connect to a gigabit access point (with dual band if possible) via the cable I have sent to the other floor to wire up the 4 devices. I've currently been looking at Netgear and Buffalo solutions as I've had problems with Linksys and Belkin routers in the past. Would this be possible with just 2 devices (modem router and access point) whilst maintaining decent speeds and if so can someone shed some light as to what I should get.

Cisco Firewall :: Does ASA 5520 Support Dual Network Drops

Oct 9, 2011

We are looking to deploy an ASA 5520, but I need to know if it is possible for it to work in this environment.

We have colo space, with two IP ranges. They provide two network drops, one from each switch connected to different routers. One in which has 4 usable IP's for management purposes. This address range will be used only for remote access to the ASA and VPN into the management VLAN. The management VLAN will have all internal devices such as the switches, etc. The second range is for the servers, of which will be assigned directly to the hosts and the ASA will need to act as just a firewall. I can do this on IOS, but not sure about the ASA.

I need to answer the following questions:

Does the ASA support dual network drops, and would this be a failover port configuration in order for it to work?A management VLAN with outbound internet access only, and VPN/RA capability. NAT will need to be used I'm guessing. Can we have a DMZ VLAN which has defined ports, say 80, 443 and 25 inbound and outbound. I need the hosts to have the public IP assigned to them with no NAT configuration.

I know there are some advantaged to using NAT, but I really can't use it because the applications behind prefer public IP's being assigned to them.
