View 1 RepliesGot a question regarding this wic-4esw card the router knows it's there from show inventory and the Ethernet interfaces are showing up, but I'm not getting devices to connect that is the pc plugged into the Ethernet on the switch card are not getting address from the routers dhcp.At present I do not have vlan1 set up as I use an ip address going to eth0 which is plugged into a 3524 switch which I want to get rid off because it's too loud.So do I need to get rid of the ip on the router Ethernet 0 and do vlan 1 with an ip address for the router to fully understand the switch card and host pcs and phones to be able to have address distributed to these devices.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Sony Viao laptop with WinXp SP3 which is now 6 years old. We are currently renting a holiday home in the USA which has an unsecured network. We have two other laptops and they are connected, no problem. This morning my Sony worked fine on email and web access but I was having trouble on FTP. Then email stopped and then web.I have tried all the usual solutions. Delete the Network, restart etc etc.It clearly show the network (and also another secured network I cannot access). When I connect it shows "Acquiring network address" then just hangs. If I press, repair it hangs on "Renewing your IP address" Does the fact that it can see the networks and when I "ping 127.0.01" it seems to be OK, mean that it CANNOT be a hardware fault? I ask this partly because the WLAN switch at the front often does not seem to work (when it does work it is green and currently it IS green)

I built my own desktop so i'm installing a pcie card won't be too much of a problem, money isn't a concern at this moment. i want something with relatively low ping speeds as well as something that can take advantage of my bandwidth so i'm able to stream hd video

A while back my faithful old IBM ThinkPad became very slow under the weight of too many applications and updates so I replaced it. Now I have decided I would like to revive it mainly as a games machine for my young grandson, so I wiped everything off it and reinstalled Windows XP Home Editon (it previously had XP Pro). It used to access the net via a wireless LAN card (IEEE802.11b/g) and this worked fine. I am now having difficulty reinstalling this device. I thought XP would just pick it up but it doesn't. I tried downloading a driver onto a memory stick using my new laptop but that doesn't work either.

Forgot to mention the router is just on the other side of a wall, its about 5 feet away.
I have recently started (slowly) upgrading my computer. I have an older desktop, and I'm wanting to eliminate the ethernet cable so I can put my desktop anywhere in the house and not have to worry about running cables. I really can't afford the faster internet at this time and I'm having issues with streaming movies. So I really don't want to lose what speed my internet does have by switching to wireless. The USB adapter is less expensive by a few bucks, but I'm worries it might just stop working randomly, or be slow in comparison to a PCI card. Another issue is with my old motherboard, I only have 2 pci slots and one pci-e slot, I've ordered a new sound card, just installed a video card. So I only have one slot left, and I was wanting to put a TV tuner in that spot.
Should I get the USB (300mbps is what I'm looking at) or should I just get over wanting to put a tv tuner in and just get the card and install it? Just wanting some general advice on what more advanced users think of it. I've seen pci expansions online but that was just way out of my price range, and do not want to have to buy a new motherboard.

The indicator light always stays amber (instead of turning blue when turned on) on external wirless switch. The wireless adaptor should be a Broadcom 802.11b. This does not show up in device manager, but my computer says the driver for it is installed. In the device manager there is one device with a yellow question mark beside it called "other device". Under this device there are three more devices called "base system device" with a yellow exclamation point next to them
View 7 Replies View RelatedIf I get a new wireless router that is N and attach it to my desktop computer, will my laptop which has a G wireless card in it be able to work without any modification? I thought I read that N is downward compatible with B and G cards, but then I saw some kind of network adapter that is put in the USB and wondered if I'd have to do that with the laptop. I'm leaning towards a E3200 right now.

Device manager doesn't seem to be detecting the card at all, the dell Wlan utility wont even start ive reinstalled the driver multiple times i even tried the intel site for drivers.
The big problem is i don't know what wireless card it is and its hard to find out because the support pdf for the laptop shows multiple possible cards.

Ive just formatted both my hard drives and reinstalled win 7. Before this, my wireless connection was working just fine and after everything was complete with the win 7 installation a wireless connection cannot be detected. However, plugging an ethernet cable in allows me to access the internet just fine. I can also use the internet wireless'ly via my laptop, so its not a problem with my actual internet connection. After reinstalling I put my Gigabyte motherboard CD into the computer which ran some auto installations, one of which being a driver 'Realtek 8111/8168 LAN driver for gigabit (Win 7).' This didnt make any difference and I still could not access wireless internet. The list of component parts I got when I ordered my computer lists a '802.11N 300mbps PCI Wireless Network Card,' but no further info on make or model.

I don't have the original CD that came with the card. The wireless card is a Buffalo Air station wireless G. I went to the Buffalo site and downloaded the driver from the model number on the wireless card. I then attempted to install the driver using the Device Manager from a folder on my desktop. No such luck. I also tried to install the driver from the Device Manager using my memory stick. But that didn't work. I did uninstall the wireless card before attempting to install the driver. Now, My PC does recognize the wireless card and asks me to install the driver after every start-up.And yes the Device manager has the yellow exclamation point and exclamation marks under the Ethernet controller multimedia Audio controller and Network controller.
