Wireless :: Trying To Connect Multiple Wireless Networks?

May 12, 2011

I manage a network using Windows Server 2008 r2 that connects to the Internet (ISP) through a wireless radio antenna. We have three other locations that also connect to the same ISP through wireless radio antennas on the roof of each building. Those locations are windows XP machines. Each location is separated by more than 1,000 ft and do not have line of sight to each other. I'm wanting the XP machines to be able to logon to the domain of the server and access shared files

Connect A Router To Multiple Wifi Networks?

Nov 19, 2012

My neighbor and I were wondering if it is possible to combine our respective internet connections in order to gain a faster connection overall. What would be ideal would to have a wireless router in one of our houses, that is simultaneously connected to both of our ADSL routers, and to which both of us are able to connect. Do I need a specific type of router?

Cisco Wireless :: 867vae - Multiple SSID And Networks Without 802.1q Trunk

Feb 3, 2013

I currently have an 867vae router and a 1131ag ap setup with 2 vlans and 2 ssid's. I am in the process of baby proofing the house and would like to use the cisco plsk400 homeplug system to relocate my wap. I use 2 networks to seperate and filter the kids internet traffic from my own. It also allows me to shut the kids vlan when they shouldnt be on the internet.

As far as i can tell the plsk400 homeplug doesnt support 802.1q.... so is there any way i can keep the seperate networks/SSID's and the abilty to filter and turn off one of them at will without a trunked link to the router?

Home Network :: Setting Up Networks With Multiple Locations / Wireless Points?

Feb 11, 2011

setting up networks with multiple locations and multiple wireless points. For example: My sisters' home has here modem in her main computer room, it has a Belkin router hooked to the modem. Then a line goes from there to my nephew's room where I tried to expand their network by adding another router. I really just wanted an access point, but they don't seem to sell these as much as they used to. Anyway, I had it working, but it was two different networks, NETWORK1 and NETWORK2. So they had to swap networks when moving around the house. what would be the best hardware setup to provide both sides of the house with some Hardwired access as well as wifi access? Right now, we have two routers, a DIR615 (or something like that) and a Cisco E1000, and again hardwire going from the main computer room to my nephew's room. Also, in my house, I have lots of stuff... I have an Actiontec Router from FIOS, feeding a small hub as well as a switch in my main room. Which then feeds a Ps3, Wii, laptop, Denon reciever, and Access Point... and also feeds my Apple TimeCapsule, which also feeds my printer. My wireless devices range from cameras, iphones/ipads, and a wifi unit (I forget what it's called, but it connects my DVR wirelessly to my network, and the DVR itself doesn't have wifi).

my question about my setup is, should everything be on one network... as in let the ActionTec handle most of the duties and use switchers and accesspoints to extend the network. Should everything be on the same wireless network and channels? Like if I used my access point to extend, do I want the same settings as my main wireless router, and would that be the same for the Apple Airport Extreme? Also, does having all these wireless networks going create any kind of hinderance on my performance. For example, the PS3 has some sort of wifi in it... it produces a SSID, but I never connect to it. Should I make sure that's off? And in my main room, should I go with just the AirPort extreme over using it and the Wireless Access point.

Multiple NIC's - Two Networks?

Feb 14, 2012

I am having trouble setting up two networks.Basically, i want one 'private' network and one public network. The problem is, the private network can't access the internet.(Network 2)

Network 1(Public) works fine as i don't want them to access Network 2.Here's how it is setup.

Internet
|
Router/Modem (Network 1)
|
Server NIC1
Server NIC2
|
Switch - (Network 2)

Network 1 can access the internet and shared files on the server.

Network 2 can access Shared files on the server (which is what i want) but cannot access the internet.

Router/modem IP is 10.10.1.254 subnet 255.255.255.0

Server NIC 1 IP is 10.10.1.252 subnet 255.255.255.0
Server NIC 2 IP is 10.10.1.251 subnet 255.255.255.0

How can i get computers in Network 2 to access internet?

Windows 7 Can See Wireless Networks But Can't Connect

Jul 19, 2012

I'm using Windows 7, and when I lived at my house I was able to connect to wireless networks without a problem. I just moved today into my brother's old apartment and for some reason I can't connect to his wireless network. I can see it along with a number of other wireless networks, but I'm unable to connect to any of them. When I attempt to connect to a network absolutely nothing happens. Typically at the bottom right corner of my screen something will pop up saying it's trying to connect, but for some reason that isn't popping up. I know it's not a problem with the router because I'm unable to connect to any of the networks, and I also had no trouble when I tried to connect to it with my laptop.

Can View Wireless Networks But Can't Connect

Aug 22, 2011

I'm working off a three-year old HP notebook, dv-2000 series, running Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit.I suddenly lost wireless connectivity. I can still see wireless networks available - unsecured and secured, five-bar signals - but trying to connect to them fails. This is not a matter of connecting to the network but not having internet access, but rather being completely unable to establish any connection.Troubleshooter says Windows is unable to determine anything. It says check the access point, but I cannot connect to any network - home, starbucks, etc. I have reinstalled both network drivers (ethernet and wireless adapter).I have plugged into a wired connection and updated Windows to the most recent set of updates.I've obviously reset the machine, toggled the wireless, etc.I've reset the TCP/IP stack.I've checked that the WLAN service is running, as well as the DNS and DHCP client services. ipconfig says the wireless adapter has DHCP and Autoconfiguration enabled. Device manager says everything is working fine.

I can see my wireless networks in the networks box on the taskbar but when I click on them nothing happens (secured or unsecured) I'm pretty sure the problem is not with the router but maybe with the adapter or the pc itself. How To Connect To Internet (also Wireless Networks) On A Desktop

Jul 10, 2011

I'm building a desktop PC from scratch, and since up until now I've always taken this for granted with a laptop, I'm a bit confused what it is I need to connect to the internet. First of all, I live in a student residence, so up until now I was able to just use an ethernet cable, connecting the wall to my laptop to gain access to the internet service I'm paying for, an I was also able to connect to wireless networks. So my question is what do I need to buy to get the same connectivity?Do I need to buy a network card, so that I will be able to connect from the wall to my computer and gain access to the internet (not wireless), or do motherboards have that capability already these days? This is the motherboard I'm buying, and if I buy a network card, this is probably the one I'm going with. Or should I go with one that has the IEEE 802.1p, as well?

And then for the gaining access to wireless networks part. Do I just buy a router and that's it? For example, would buying just this router enable me to connect to wireless networks? Or can I just buy this PCI adapter?Would it also be possible to go from the wall directly to the router, then to the computer gain access to both the non-wireless and wireless networks?

Laptop Won't Connect To Mobile Broadband Or Wireless Networks?

Sep 6, 2012

I'm living in Australia for a few months and my accommodation does not have a phone line, so I've been using mobile broadband dongles instead. This worked fine until recently, when I abruptly became unable to access the internet. The laptop recognises the dongle and seems to connect, but the download/upload speeds are at a constant zero bytes per second (I have tried to ping Google while 'connected' but received no response). I have tried two dongles from Dodo and one from Telstra, with the same results. Initially, I assumed that this was simply due to signal strength, but each of the three dongles I have tested work fine on another laptop in the same location (I'm using one of them to post this). I have also tried using the dongles with my laptop in other locations, including the city centre, but with no success.

Also, I seem to be unable to connect to any wireless networks (e.g. McDonalds wifi) - the laptop detects the network ok, and seems to be connected, but I am unable to access any web pages etc. In the Network and Sharing Centre, the laptop is connected with the wifi network, but the wifi network does not seem to be connected to the internet. I'm unsure if this is related to the above problem, however.Like I say, everything seems to have been working fine up until about a week agoIf

Other laptops and smart phones in the house can connect to both. I was wondering if this had anything to do with Norton 360 so I have used their removal tool to get rid of it. ASUS Netbook Cannot Connect To Wireless Networks - Limited Access

Oct 19, 2012

I have: ASUS Netbook with Windows 7 Starter.

As of last night, I cannot connect to any of the wireless networks I use every day (my personal home network or my school's WPA2).

The signal strength is very good, but it says "Limited Access" next to the network name. Apparently "Limited" means "No" because I am not connected. Here's what happened:Lavasoft Ad-Aware was blocking a site that I needed to access. I haven't used Ad-Aware in months, and it did not even appear to be running. So uninstalled it with Add/Remove programs in the control panel. BUT, mid-way through the uninstallation, I got a blue screen and my computer restarted. When my computer booted back up, I could no longer connect to my home's wireless. I'm at school now and I cannot connect here either. Ad-aware is gone from the add/remove programs list, but there is still an Ad-Aware folder in Program Files. The folder still has a bunch of stuff in it, including adaware.exe. I dont see an uninstaller (but i havent really investigated that yet). so now i can't connect to any network. Here's What I've TriedRan troubleshooter. Useless. Turned off my netbook's wireless. turned it back on. Device manager says my Network Adapters are working fine. No yellow or red icons next to them. also tried resetting stuff with the command prompt. something about winsock and netsh. I don't know what I was doing though. just following instructions from other people on yahoo answers when i googled the problem.

Dell :: Alienware M17X-R3 Unable To Connect To Wireless Networks

Sep 13, 2012

I have an Alienware M17X-R3 and I’ve been experiencing several networking problems with it recently- most importantly that I can’t connect to any wireless network. It detects all the networks in the area, but when I select and try to connect to one nothing happens. I can still use a wired Internet connection, though. “Troubleshoot problems” or “Diagnose” just tells me that I have no preferred wireless networks. When I go to the Network and Sharing Center, the “Set up a new connection or network” button doesn’t do anything. When I go from there to “Manage Wireless Networks” the “Add” button doesn’t do anything.

I’ve tried disabling and enabling my DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card, and reinstalling the drivers. I’ve disabled the “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power” option on all my network devices. I’ve used a system restore. I’ve run a scan with Malwarebytes and my computer had crashed by the time I looked at it again thirty or so minutes later; it had tried to restart but was unable to because there was “No bootable device”. I powered it off and started it up again and it worked fine. I also ran a Superantispyware scan that completed successfully without finding anything and immediately crashed, but restarted normally.

A few other things that may or may not be related:

-When I boot I get a message that says “Could not reconnect all network drives”

-When I booted I used to get a message from GoogleCrashHandler64.exe that said “C:Windowssystem32dbghelp.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.” When I went to msconfig and disabled all non-Microsoft processes under services and startup I no longer got the message.
