After Irene, we kept power and cable, but our internet went down, or so we thoughtWhen we plug the Ethernet cable from the modem into the computer, internet works fine (I can post this, after all), but when we plug the cable from the modem into our Dell TrueMobile 2300 router, our network appears as "Local Only." The phone cable thing is plugged from the wall into the modem, and the ethernet cable goes from the modem to the router, as it has been for years.
show cdp neighbors command shows two devices connected through the same local port?I have a Cisco 3560 that when I issue the "show cdp neighbors" command I get the following results: [code]
the question is why is this showing that Gig0/3 is being used twice to connect to two different devices. I have verified there is no hub connected to this port and in fact Switch3 is not connected to Switch1 at all yet it still shows up in the CDP table.
I have cleared the CDP table on every device at this location and still get the same results.
I recently build a Frankenstein desktop, or at least that's what I'm calling.I started out replacing the motherboard in a HP Pavillion p6130y desktop. After some research I found that the stock motherboard as pretty outdated so I decided to go aftermarket.I wanted to replace as little as possible but now the only original parts are the dvd drive and network card. The network card has to screws on the back to attach an antenna and is a PCI1x card.
I now have a problem where after installing the card and Windows 7 Professional , I can see the list of available wireless networks including my own. But, I cannot connect to any of them even though my own network has full signal strength.
I am connected wirelessly on my laptop to my DIR-655 (D-Link) router. There is something weird going on to me in which is shows I am connected to two networks, one my home network clearly identified. The other one a "public network" listed as unidentified, all on one wireless connection. I run Windows 7 SP 1 32-bit. I would like somehow to merge or remove the second one from the listing.
when I hover my mouse over my signal bars it says I am connected to a network named 'home-9C78' but when I click to bring up my list of available networks, it says I am connected to a network named 'Reshiram' Reshiram is the name of my network and there is NO 'home-9C78' ANYWHERE in the list!!! I don't know where my computer gets this home-9C78!!! and I NEVER ever connected to a network with that name!!! it is supposed to be 'Reshiram
I had a small issue wherein my pc would lose ALL network connection to my pc, but the network icon showed that i had full signal, no issues. as long as i sign in on skype before the internet drops, it will stay on after it drops and i can still chat and everything, and to fix, i had to restart my pc. well, it had gotten better. And now its back, and WAY worse then before. skype doesnt have time to sign in upon bootup, and wont connect. steam wont connect, NOTHING will conect, but i still show full signal and no yellow mark or anything! I have done the following:
and no, i am not able to reinstall windows. I am going to try (soon, i am not able to just yet) direct ethernet to my router. all other PCs in the house are working perfectly, even this one that is slow as crap because it has windows 7 and is designed for windows XP.
I purchased my WAT54G a couple of years ago when I added a laptop, I have my desktop which is connected to DSL and a wireless printer and my laptop.A neighbor told me that I should secure my network as he has used it when his system went down. My son had added a P/W when we first set up the router.I have since found the NETWORK MAP on which shows all the users on the network and half my street is on there.I have again added a P/W how do I know if its SECURE?
I'm not sure why the guest net work is unsecured. I would have thought that would not be an option but it is unsecured. How to secure the guest network [2.4 GHz]? Also when I view the guest list some devices stay displayed whether they are in the vicinity or even turned off. That adds to my paranoia with the guest network being unsecured. I also can't edit the screen names to know who the device belongs to like is available in "my devices", forcing me to keep a MAC address list.
I'm having a networking issue that I cannot resolve. My DirecTV HD DVR receiver (HR21-700) shows a working connection to both my network and internet. However, the STB services port (range of 27161-27192) will not connect through my router (linksys E4200) automatically or manually (Dtv error code 301). By connecting the receiver directly to my modem, the STB services port will connect as it should. I also have a XB360 (LAN), BluRay Player (LAN), two PCs, & Wireless Bridge connected with absolutely no issues. Each are manually configured with a static IP and the proper ports forwarded.I am STUMPED and FRUSTRATED to say the least.Other than the manual setup of these devices, my networking knowledge is not very broad. Are there any settings or configurations that I may be overlooking? The uPnP is enabled, NAT is enabled, and all firewalls are turned off.
I have a home network running all Mac computers (though can run Windows VM if necessary) and a pair of USB printers. The wireless router and cable modem are in one room, but the printers are in another. I'd like to find the most practical way to add the printers to the local wireless network without sharing them from a computer. I've tried that for a while, but don't want to leave a laptop connected 24/7 just to enable wireless printing (rather defeats the purpose of a portable computer). I don't have any wired network lines in the home, and am not excited by the idea of running any cables.
I'm trying to see if I can fix my friend's NAS which apparently has some pretty important data on it that wasn't saved anywhere else. They actually had the Geeksquad look at it and they've come to the same conclusion I have so far, but I figured I would ask the internet before I gave the thing back to them and said Geeksquad was right.
Anyways, they have this 5 drive RAIDed NAS which apparently just stopped showing up on their network. I borrowed it from them to see if I could figure it out. It turns on just fine and my router assigns it an IP address, but the IP address just takes me to a blank LaCie dashboard screen. It's weird because it's clearly running it's web server because it's just a gray background with an empty white box and "(c) LaCie 2010" at the bottom. No content at all.
Additionally, I tried installing the LaCie Network Assistant on my home computer and it says it cannot find any network disks. I've tried the "wake up a device" where I enter the mac address, but that doesn't do anything.
All the lights are solid blue on the front and over all the drives so it doesn't appear a drive has failed or something. Even so, that wouldn't really explain the blank dashboard right?
I have two laptops I am working on. The gentleman who owns the laptops recently got an air port router for his macs. Well, the two HPs that he has, both of their wireless cards stopped connecting to his network. Nor, will the connect to mine. If I connect it through Ethernet, the internet works great. If I connect it through wireless, local only every time.I have tried renewing the ip address. Disabled the IPv6. Uninstalled Norton in case it had a block on it. Disabled firewall temporarily. Uninstalled all Air Port files. I am absolutely boggled on what this guy could have done.
My church has a AT&T wired modem and a Netgear Wireless router. Pastors office is on other side of church and he is losing signal occassionally. His network is showing two SSID addressed cgcg cgcg2
I have a wireless router. The first time I connected my computer to it, it worked. I went in to change the network password, and after that, it stopped working. Every single other device I have will connect, including other laptops, but this one won't. In the network and sharing center it shows that my network is available, but it will not connect. I have tried everything I can think of. I have looked all over the internet, nd still can't figure it out!!!! My computer's wifi IS on so its not that. The only thing that the trouble shooter tells me to do is unplug the router and restart it and that has not worked after several tries. Also is there a way to reset the computers recognition of networks? Im wondering if that would work if I could completely restart the process again, but I dont know how to get to that. I have a dell inspiron with windows 7.
I just replaced my wireless router. Wh? Now I'm not sure, I hoped a dual band router would give me better range. True or false?Regardless, I installed my new router but can only connect to my local network on my home laptop. However my work laptop connects to the same network and internet with no problem. SO does my husband's work computer.Any idea what the problem is? Other weird thing is that I have some random unsecured network that keeps popping up and my computer keeps automatically connecting. I've tried to remove it every way possible and it keeps coming back?
I changed recently my wireless router (and my ISP) and since then the Network and sharing center lists two networks, both with Local and Internet access. One has the SSID assigned to the router and the other is name "unidentified".All seems to be working fine but i'd like to clean up the mess and remove this undefined thing.I have a vista home premium. The wired NIC is disabled, The wireless is set to dhcp with ipV6 disabled. Am attaching below the ipconfig /all.
I have a Lynksys WRT600N. I had DD-WRT on it and it was working great for about a year. One day I changed some minor settings like wireless signal type, reboot it and it's gone. I can not access it from my computer. The network adapter shows "cable unplugged". The lights on the front come on, but I can't get anywhere with it.
I've done all the resets I know how to do, including the 30/30/30 and leaving it unplugged for a few months.
E4500 local network IP is 10.10.XXX.XXX and the DHCP server also starts with this subnet. My network is 192.168.XXX.XXX based but if I manually chahge the routers IP I can no longer access it. I do not use DHCP as this is in bridge mode. Why is this setup this way...CCC?
i'm trying to setup a local DNS server to manage small office local-only domain names for our servers. i have the DNS working properly (resolving local machines and using the ISP dns if it can't). so i put the DNS server ip into the "Static DNS 1" field of the router settings. the other 2 static dns fields are empty.the problem is that the router is still using the ISP dns server as the primary and my local dns server as the secondary. i verify this in two places. first, if i go to the "status" tab, DNS 1 shows the ISP server while DNS 2 shows my local DNS server. secondly, if i connect to the wireless device with a linux-based machine, the /etc/resolv.conf file shows the nameserver ips in the same incorrect order.
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 and I have AT&T wireless internet in my house. My other computers and Roku connect with no problem, but mine even though it says it is connected, is not connected. I have Windows XP the other computer is Vista and the desktop is also XP. Even AT&T came over the house and said something is wrong with the computer.
I need to know why I am losing internet connectivity like around nighttime, late. I keep losing internet on both IPv4 and IPv6! It both said "No Internet Access" Then later IPv6 said "No Network Access" That's the problem i am having on my personal laptop computer. I really am furious that I lost internet connection around 12:15, 12:30, 12:50, 1:30, 2:15, 2:30, and 3:30 A.M. i suddenly lost internet right there. And I heard the internet crew shuts down the internet system every nighttime and fixing it. I want to know why they need to fix it, how long will the repairs last ?
I have been using Dell Vostro-1320 laptop with Windows XP. It was running good. Recently I have installed the McAfee Internet Security software. But now I do not have internet access through this laptop although the network icon shows "connected". I have tried all the advice/solutions for such type of problem by doing Firewall off/on and changing adapter & network setting. I also updated all the drivers. But nothing works. It is notable that my other desktop is working properly in spite of installing this software.
I have a E2500 connected to a cable modem as the base of my home network. Hard wire connected to the E2500 is an linksys 8 port hub and a couple of computers. The 8 port hub is connected to a couple of computers and a xbox. I have the hub as a distro point to cut down on wiring. Wirelessly connected to the E2500 are a variety of laptops, netbooks, ipods, an ipad, a playbook, an iphone, a android phone, a wireless printer and a Ps3. Most of the devices are just using the wifi for internet access. Most devices have been setup with their own ip addresses to avoid ip conflicts. The computers and laptops/netbooks are running either Windows XP, Windows 7 or Mepis Linux. Up until now everything was going as good as can be expected, all the computers could see each other and most could transfer files between each other except when Windows gets picky. In the last few days no computers can see each other. Windows or Linux.Everything can accsess the internet and wirelessly print still just can't see each other. I reset the E2500. I updated the firmware on the E2500. I installed the Cisco Connect software (just in case I was too stupid too setup a router). Still nothing. I can ping other machines from a command prompt in windows or a terminal in Linux and get a good ping back. In the router setup via a browser I can go to the status page and see other devices on the local network but most are just ipods, ipad, playbook and the wireless printer, If I go to the administration page / diagnostics I can ping other computers and get a good answer. I just can see them from each other. I think I've rebooted every thing at least once. Yes the workgroup names are all the same (workgroup) and yes file sharing is turned on on all computers.
In the settings menu, there is no l2tp in which it was possible to configure a local address of the router. It should be: 10.155.41.41There is an option only for VPN server setup(10.255.255.254), but where it takes a local address that my provder has gave me? - it is not clear. At the same time in the status of the router receives a DNS correctly and the second address embarass me little bet DNS should be:
1) 80.252.130.253 2) 80 252.130.254
first dns is correct, and second one looks like: 80.252.45.86Maybe he does not take a local setting of ip adress via DHCP?
