Wireless Network Slows Down Then Stops?

Jul 25, 2012

Recently my wirless computer has been loading web pages extremely slow. When I download anything the download speed will start at around 2Mbps and then within second drop to 1Mbps then so on untill it's showing a download speed of bytes. Not kilobytes but just the b. Then int will hang up and the download will fail. Sometime resetting the adapter will allow me another failed attempt to download it. Ive reset the router reinstalled the operating system (was due for a fresh install anyway). Still nothing. Adapter shows connection to the router with 4/5 bars and through to the Internet.

Cisco Routers :: RV042 Slows Down And Finally Stops

Dec 20, 2011

I recently took over at a company as IT Manager.  All through my career I have heard about the quality of Cisco equipment.  Over the past few years I have used a few different Cisco products with good success.  When I took over they were using an assortment of old D-link DI-604UP's & DI-804HV routers.  The problem is that most of the DSL Internet connections now are faster than the 10 megs that these units WAN connections support.  Since they were working fine other than that I felt that replacing them with the RV042 would be a good step.  So far I have purchased 6 & implemented 5 of them.  The sites vary in number of network devices from 10 to about 50.

The problem is that 4 of the 5 routers start to slow down & finally stop responding after a period of time.  If I unplug them, count to 10 & plug them in again they work fine again for a period of time & then quit.  The length of time varies between sites & even varies on the same unit.  They may go for 2 days or 2 weeks.  I never know what I'm going to get.  When they go down I don't even have local access to them.  It's like they overload & can't accept any more data.  I can't tell you what version of firmware they originally had but I can tell you I had upgraded 3 of them to version 4.0.4.02 & then to version 4.1.0.02.  I reset & manually re-entered all the settings after I did this.

I have read through the posts & have changed the MTU settings & tried disabling the SPI firewall setting to no avail.  The D-link routers ran flawlessley until I replaced them & have done so since I put them back.

I now have over $1000.00 dollars worth of routers that I can't use.  I have a boss that is on me because I talked him into spending the money when the $200.00 dollars worth of routers I replaced were working fine.

I have 10 locations to upgrade the total infrastructure in.  Routers, switches, etc.  If I don't get this resolved quick there is no way in the world I be buying any more Cisco equipment.

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: AE2500 Slows All Computers On Network?

Dec 30, 2012

I have 3 computers all running Windows 7 64bit.  I had to move my desktop computer to a different room with no ethernet connection so I purchased a Linksys AE2500 usb wireless adapter for it.  My router/modem is a Actiontec 2000 which came with my internet.  When I have my desktop on and connected to the internet it slows down all the computers on the network and it is really slow.  My question is do I have something installed wrong?  I used the driver for teh adapter from this site and nothing else has changed.

Network Slows Down When Using A Switch

Apr 1, 2013

I have an office addition in which I've extended the network connection from the wall by adding a 4 port Linksys workgroup switch. This was done so two salespeople could share one ethernet wall connection. They've been complaining about internet speeds, so I did some tests.

1) Replaced the Linksys workgroup switch with a higher end 16 port switch we had on hand from Allied Telesis (an AT-GS950).Resulted in no change in speed on the two user computers (one desktop, one laptop; both seeing avg of 7 Mbps). However, when I connect my laptop, the speeds were twice as fast (15 Mpbs vs.7).I looked at the NIC configurations to compare settings and we all had the same settings.

2) When I eliminate the switches altogether and hook the user's computers directly to the wall connection, the speeds are as promised by our ISP (15 Mbps). Is there something I need to configure in these switches to speed them up?I don't think it's possible to manage the Linksys. Is my only option at this point to pay for another ethernet re-wire so each of them can connect directly via the wall and eliminate the switches?

7404VNPX Raspberry Pi Slows Down Internet Access For Whole Network

Jun 29, 2013

Whenever my Raspberry Pi is connected to the network (via ethernet) the entire network is slowed to a crawl. On my main computer, ping times for google.com go from ~10ms to ~200ms and it takes forever to load web pages. Connections are also slow on the Pi, with an apt-get update showing pathetic speeds in the order of 1KB/s. Turning off the Pi completely removes the drag from the network. Interestingly, the local network appears to be fine, with scp copying files at reasonable rates; around 4.5MB/s to the Pi.

I've tried static and dynamic IP addresses for the Pi, but both have the same problems. Switching from Raspbian to Arch also had no effect.I've checked the connection's duplex with dmesg | grep -i duplex, which shows that the Pi's connection is running at 100Mbps, full-duplex, as expected.

My modem/router is a Billion 7404VNPX (an Australian thing); relatively high-end, albeit a bit buggy at times (it will occasionally delete all its firewall settings). It assigns IPs in the range 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.20 and has 192.168.1.254 as its own IP. When I assign static IPs I tend to use the 192.168.1.200 area. I recently tested the connection with the Pi plugged straight into the modem (rather than via a wall socket) and it managed to crash it entirely!

ASUS P8P67 Pro / Network Slows To Crawl When Desktop Ethernet Plugged In?

Feb 25, 2012

My internet service grinds to all but a halt as soon as I plug in the ethernet cable to my desktop. Nothing is running in the background (that I can determine). Nothing is spamming data up or down (that I can determine). I get 40ms ping and 12Mbps downloads on every device I have until I plug in my big boy; then all the speeds come crashing down to 600ms ping and 0.9-1.4Mbps downloads (including the desktop, I have not been able to play SWTOR for weeks now). It's not the provider, (I thought it was) but I switched from Time Warner to AT&T with the exact same results. ASUS P8P67 Pro; I've had funky issues with USB ports and one SATA port died. Other friends suggest I may have an awful bug and I need to wipe and start over. I wouldn't mind doing that, but I don't have a windows recovery disk (my copy is legitimate).

Mobo-as listed.

Linksys Wireless Router :: New Notebook PC Stops Entire Home Network On WRT110?

Nov 13, 2011

I just got a new notebook that has windows ultimate, and whenever i turn it on it knocks off all the other PCS on the network and the printer, including the one the router is wired to. I can only get it to pick up all 4 devices when i go into the Lynksys program and click change password. But then the program locks up and i have to shut it off manually.

I already reset the router four times trying to get it to pick up all the PCs but it never works. I'm ready to toss the router and get something else. Are there any settings I can change or reset before this router becomes garbage fodder?

Linksys Wireless Adapters :: WMP54G Stops Transmitting And Drops Off Network For Moment

Apr 2, 2011

I'm having an issue with a 2 week old WMP54G pci adapter.  The behavior is as follows: I get a successful connection and excellent speeds, but every 10 seconds it stops transmitting and drops off the network for a moment.  Then everything comes right back.  10 seconds on, drop, 10 seconds on, drop.I've investigated possible sources of interference, but there aren't any strong networks coming though on the same or nearby channels.  Moreover, other devices sitting in essentially the same spot are connected consistently and show no variation in the signal strength.

Other info:  OS is Ubuntu 10.10, the machine is a Dell GX270.

Network Stops Working For 2 Mins When Laptop Joins Network?

Jan 27, 2013

We have a working home network with 4 pcs connected to the network. 3 via ethernet and 1 via wireless. Everything is working fine. Then we have 2 more laptops which are connecting via wireless. When either of those 2 laptops joins the network, the whole network stops working for a minute or 2. After that it starts working again for everybody (including those 2 laptops). However its super annoying when it does that all the time. (The laptop goes into sleep mode, when u turn it back on again the internet(and the whole network) stops working for awhile again..).

Wireless PCI Card Slows Down Computer?

Dec 11, 2011

Often (almost always) , when i am connected to wifi via my linksys wireless n PCI e card, speeds are suuuuper slow, and it even causes my computer speeds to slow down (mouse tweaks and glitches, loading bars will stop and start spinning.. etc. almost like low RAM problem?).When i disconnect from wifi, the slow computer problem goes away.I have replaced the wifi card since i thought that was the problem. Although the problem came back.I am currently using a USB wireless N adapter, and i have one bar connectivity, and it runs 100x faster than my PCI card. OH AND ALSO: a few times i have been using m,y desktop with super slow speeds on the PCI card, and i connect on my PS3 or laptop and open a web page. SOMETIMES it will affect something, and my desktop will start running with network speeds again. It's almost like the other devices re-set something in the router?

When I deactivate wireless the problem is solved even though no device was using the wireless at the time of the slowdown. I've tried resetting, reverting to factory defaults, updating the firmware(was already up to date), unplugging the router for a considerable amount of time (2hours+). Even though it's not quite related I've tried connecting directly to the modem just for thoroughness' sake.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Connection Slows Down Until A Reboot

Apr 19, 2010

When connecting wirelessly (5GHz) to the E3000 after a day or so the wireless connection starts loosing speed.  I have Comcast and usually get 20-30 MB download connections.  After a day or so I start to lose speed (down to 5MB) until I reboot the E3000.  Then I resume 20-30MB download connections.  My wired connections appear fine and don’t experience the slow down.  I'm doing my speed test with [URL]

The wireless slow down seems similar to the old memory leak condition of old Windows OS’s.  Called Cisco and they don’t have an idea.  They had me change a few settings (channel info) but I’m pretty technical and don’t feel that will fix it.

Packets Activity Stops But Still On The Network?

May 11, 2011

During the last month or so my internet connection keeps stalling and will not work until I repair the connection, however I am still connected to the network, I just can't send or receive packets. In particular when I am downloading things, it will stop after 2MB is downloaded or 300MB, it just random. After sending/receiving 7,000 packets or 700,00. This only happens to my computer with the wifi adapter. Prior to this I didn't have any issues for over two years. My phone and laptop still connect via wifi to the internet. And the xbox and blu ray player are connected via ethernet and have not had any problems. The log for my router states "deauthenticate reason 3", which I have found to mean "The access point went offline, deauthenticating the client". So, I figured that the issue could be the wifi adapter which I installed on the laptop and that too never had an issue. I used inSSIDer 2.0 to see the close by networks and changed channels to get away from the strongest ones. I tried switching to wireless n only instead of g and n, the problem still persists.

Then I figured the issue must be my computer and no malware, spyware, adware nor any virus was found. The same thing happened while in safe mode. I also tried the winsock fix to no avail, reinstalled the wifi adapter and made sure all firmware for the router and adapter were up to date as well as XP. I also tried with my firewall shutdown but I still loose the connection. So I then reluctantly did a clean install and even with the bare essentials it still stopped working. I also bought a 15ft USB extension to get a better signal but still, even though I have a good or excellent signal I still have problems. My latest thought was this was the only machine running firefox 4 so I went back to 3 and that didn't either. I checked my usage with my ISP and I am no where near the 250GB a month.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Data Rate Slows Down After A Period Of Time

Aug 11, 2010

I have just bought an E3000 router when my old router died last week.  I am having two problems:

1.  The data rate slows down after a period of time (long message trail elsewhere)

2.  I cannot see everything on the network.

I have several Win 7 computers, two win xp computers,  three NAS devices (linux based), and a printer sitting on the network, along with two switches to cope with all the traffic (not to mention iPods, iphones etc.)With my old router, I couold see everything plugged into the network from my main Win 7 computer. (note:  the win 7 network map does not always work, but the windows explorer window of the network always showed everything). With the E3000 router, I can only see 1 or 2 of the devices on the network.  If I reboot the router, then sometimes all of the devices appear on the windows explorer window (sometimes not)I am running a workgroup (not a domain) and i am not using win 7's homegroup because that will not work with the non-win 7 devices. Is there a setting that will see all of the devices in Win 7 (either on the router or on the computers). I suspect it is a router issue as it worked with my old Zyxel router.

Wifi Stops Working When Wired Network Plugged In?

Apr 22, 2012

On the basement level, and on level 2, I have in wall junction boxes where the Cat5E Ethernet wires come together. There are 6 lines that go from the level 2 box to 6 wall jacks on levels 2 and 3. There are also 6 lines that go from the basement box to 6 wall jacks in the basement and on level 1. There is also a Cat5E line running between the two boxes.I have wired all these plugs on both ends with T568B standard, and in each box they go into a patch panel. I have used a cable tester to test and make sure all these plugs are properly wired. I have also tested individual computers hardwired linked through to my router (without going through switches) and confirmed that they work that way, so I'm pretty sure I've wired it correctly.

At the second floor box, I have an AT&T 2Wire wifi router and modem, with AT&T Uverse service. I also have a monoprice Ethernet switch. In the basement box, I have another monoprice Ethernet switch (link to the type of switches I have is below). The switches are connected together via the Cat5E that runs between the boxes, and the second floor switch is connected to a free port on the back of the AT&T 2Wire Uverse wifi router. These wall plugs are not all currently used. In fact the problem I describe below occurs even if nothing is plugged into the wall plates. My problem is: when I hook up everything, so my wifi router is wired to the first switch, which is in turn wired to the 6 wall plugs upstairs as well as to the switch in the basement, and that basement switch is in turn wired to the 6 wall plates downstairs... at that point when I plug it in, my wifi stops working. Basically, whenever my router is plugged into this hard wired network, the wifi stops working. When I unplug the network, the wifi comes back (I usually reset it, not certain if it would come back just from waiting).

Interestingly, it doesn't necessarily stop working if most or all of the plugs are removed so the network is not connected (for example, if I just go through one plug instead of all of them)Does a network of wired Ethernet, even if not plugged into anything, cause some sort of a load or drain on the router that could make it stop working?

G Wireless USB NIC / N Wireless NIC Slows Internet Speed

Mar 17, 2012

Facing some troubles with my internet speeds, firstly the set-up is very simple, its just about 4 devices connected to a regular home router, 2 devices are connected via wireless and i am having trouble with my desktop PC.
Basically what keeps happening is that it fluctuates between 10Mb/s and as low as 0.8Mb/s, right now its at about 4Mb/s but i cant understand why this keeps happening, I am using a G wireless USB NIC and the laptop (the other wireless device) is fairly new so it should be an N wireless NIC, also it doesn't change my speed when it is being used for browsing and my neighbors wireless devices are also laptops with N cards. I believe that the router is G, having 3Mb/s at best which is far worse than normal.
