Airport Has Self Assigned Ip Address And Will Not Be Able To Connect To Internet
Jun 12, 2011
I just rebuilt my network and I've encountered a problem with my wireless access. Right now I have a Dlink 2540B modem/wired router. To that is connected an 8-port Dlink 2208 Switch and a Linksys WRT110 wireless router. All the desktops connect via ethernet to the switch and everything is working fine. I just added the WRT110 and specified it would be a secondary router on the network but as soon as I got it connected it killed my internet. I assumed this was because of DHCP being enabled, which was true once I logged in and looked. I of course disabled it and now the internet is back up on the wired portion and I can connect to the wireless router as well. But the only problem now is that my wireless devices are not being assigned IP's at all. Specifically, my Mac says "airport has a self assigned ip address and will not be able to connect to the internet"How are IP's assigned to wireless devices that connect to the network via a wireless router with DHCP disabled?
We have a Cisco Aironet 1242 AG Series which we are trying to setup. The DHCP assigns the IP address, but we cannot connect to it. We have had this problem with a previous Aironet unit, which this new one we have got now is also having the same problem!Everything seems to be correct, but we cannot get to the IP address to set it up.
I recently switched routers to the DIR-615 and I'm trying to troubleshoot why one of our laptops keeps losing the IP address and gets a self-assigned IP address. I see the following messages in the log, I am wondering if the reason codes are listed and explained somewhere? I tried searching the manual but could not find any information.
I have 2 servers. 1 is a terminal server windows 2003 sb terminal server.(working fine) and the other is server 2003 small business DC configured with dhcp, dns, SQL, & wins. Last week one of the network programs that is located on the DC started refusing connections. So doing some trouble shooting I noticed that when I ping the server name I get a local address of *.*.*.42 when the address the machine is assigned is *.*.*.5. When I do an Ipconfig /all on the DC it only shows the *.*.*.5 number. I look in DHCP and *.*.*.5 is reserved for the DC Computer. And the *.*.*.42 isn't even in the address leases. I have also looked through the DNS settings and see no alias with the .42 number. And the number does not show up in the reverse lookup zone either.
I have set up DHCP reservations to assigned IP addresses based on MAC address. I have to block my kids access at times, and when I do this they simply change their IP address and they circumvent the blocking.Other than punishing the kids (which hasn't worked - and they need computers and Internet for homework), is there anyway to lock a computer to MAC address to IP address so if they change it they won't get network/internet access?I also tried to set up network filtering and I put in all the PCs and devices I wanted to provide access for, including the router, but when I save changes I can no longer access the internet or the router. I have to do factory reset to get back into router config. Also, I'm on 1.30WW. I know 1.34 exists, which I tried on a previous router which died and was replaced by RMA; but this didn't solve any problems.
Is there any way to get an ip address through it's physical location? I was asked this by a friend and it's a good question. We know how to get the physical address by it's by coordinates, but is it possible to reverse it, getting the ip assigned to the physical address?
configure my cisco 892 router want a static ip address assigned to the interface because and I have no more internet on the router because am working on my network academy for CCENT?
I have a problem with my AIR-AP1041N-E-K9, i do not seem to get an ip-address assigned after a reset to factory defaults.I do see the AP with CDP:
Device-ID: ap Advertisement version: 2 Platform: cisco AIR-AP1041N-E-K9 Capabilities: TransBridge IGMP Interface: gi5, Port ID (outgoing port): GigabitEthernet0 Holdtime: 163 Version: Cisco IOS Software, C1040 Software (C1140-K9W7-M), Version 12.4(25d)JA1, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
[code]...
I also noticed that when i connect to the AP via console-cable, i can see the AP boot up in the console session, but then i do not get a login prompt, but it seems like the AP is responding; if i shutdown the interconnecting link between the switch and the AP, i do see log messages appearing in the console-connection.I have tried to debug on the Switch, but i need a password, so i can debug, which i do not have.,
We recently implement WLC 5500 Series, I found out guest user once period of that user expired it will not appear at lobbyadmin page where you can see list of users.
Is there any way to see expired guest users and also IP address which assign to guest user?
I've configured vpn ipsec with wizard but my ip address assigned by pool not reach the lan network ,lan network: 192.168.0.0 /24,pool network: 193.168.0.0 /24
I have a Dell Inspiron 530s desktop running Vista SP2. When I attempt to get online using a cable or a wireless USB adapter I get a self-assigned IP Address. When I manually add an IP and DNS addresses I can't get online also. I have removed my security software (webroot) and have disabled Windows Firewall. The same ethernet connection works on another one of my computers fine.
I am trying to setup VLANs and most of configurations are working ok now except IP address assignment from DHCP. If any computer in VLAN 120 or 130 configured with manual IP address, then all works fine. It can reach internal servers and the internet without problem. If the IP address is assigned automatically then any computer in VLAN 120 or 130 are obtaining IP address (strangely!) from VLAN 100. Because switch ports that connected to the computer belongs to VLAN 120 or 130, the computer cannot reach internal servers and the internet with ip address from VLAN 100 . All SVI interfaces for VLAN 100, 120 and 130 have ip helper-address option defined pointing to the DHCP server. No DHCP snooping enabled on all switches at this point. DHCP server have three scopes for the three different VLANs.
I have a new ASUS N53S laptop and cannot get it to connect to an existing Airport Express network. It can connect to other networks. 1. Other machines can connect to the Airport Express network, including a Toshiba Satellite PC, iPhone, and MacBook. 2. The Passkey is valid and works for the devices identified in (2) 3. When entering the valid passkey, the network rejects it and says the passkey is invalid 4. I have opened the Airport Express utility and changed the passkey to a new one, and all of the devices identified in (2) were able to connect -- but the ASUS laptop still cannot connect, the system still rejects it from the ASUS laptop and says "passkey invalid"
I have a network that has an Netgear ADSL 2 wireless router.Everything on this network has run perfectly for long now. In fact everything is still perfect for all the machines except for 1 macbook laptop.I can connect and transfer files between all machines on the network Machines on network:
2 x Windows desktop PC's (hardwired), 1 x MacbookPro (OSX) (Airport) 1 x Macbook (OSX) (Airport) This is the one in question here.
I can browse the internet with all these machines as well.Well to my astonishment after 3 days of non stop trying, the one laptop can only browse sites that are on servers that are physically/geographically in South Africa. It wont connect to .com, .net or .co.za domains that are hosted elsewhere with on the globe. In SA there are some ISP's that give "local surfing" free after the accounts cap has been reached. This is not the case here cause the other machines connect anywhere using the same isp/router settings from the same network.
ASA 5505 and DMZ and Base License,"For example, you have one VLAN assigned to the outside for Internet access, one VLAN assigned to an inside business network, and a third VLAN assigned to your home network. The home network does not need to access the business network, so you can use the no forward interface command on the home VLAN; the business network can access the home network, but the home network cannot access the business network." Page 6-17.
This is exactly what I need. Mail server in DMZ, full access from internet to DMZ, and from inside network to DMZ, no access from DZM to inside network. If I good understand, this is possible with base license.
I successfully configure, internet Access for DZM and inside network, Mail server can be accessed from internet, as well as RDP on inside network. But I have problem to configure communication from inside network to DMZ. [code]
This Dell Latitude D800 shows connected to my network with an IP address and DNS information matches my home computer - I cannot get connected to the Internet unless I put in an IP address. I've run a TCP/IP utility to reset the catalog and all settings. Looked at the hosts file in Start/Run/Drivers - etc folder/hosts, and the last line shows 127.0.0.1 localhost
It was part of a domain when I first started working on it, and I'm trying to get it for use just as a personal PC. It connects to a dock, and that's where the Internet connection is. I've tried wired and wireless, both show connected. I can ping the computer's IP address, the gateway, and the router, and any other IP address out on the Internet that I have tried.
Here's the sys info from your download of TSG SYSINFO utility:
Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.1 OS Version: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3, 32 bit Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1600MHz, x86 Family 6 Model 9 Stepping 5
I get an ip address but will not connect to internet. tried re installing nic card through connectivity tools, contacted isp he said the modem is working properly tried to ping www.comcast.com from run, cmd. will not connect. I can connect with different computer on same modem. reinstalled IE 7, was runnung IE 8, someone said IE 8 could have been causing problem. still can't connect.
Myself and a friend used to play a game over the internet and join via ip address after a few years and upgrades to windows 7 we decided to do this again problem is we cannot seem to be able to connect via ip address using windows 7 does not even work after using port forward on my machine (host) and disabling firewalls on both machines.
I have some questions regarding DNS server addresses,I have in my mind that what if i put a DNS server addresses on the internet connection to avoid connection fault. My questions is where can I get the DNS server addresses? and what is the function of this addresses? What is the connection of DNS server addresses to the Internet service provider?
I was watching netflix on my computer last night and all of a sudden I lost my connection to the internet and my computer said that the local area connection was not a valid ip address and the it was trying to connect to an unknown network. I rebooted...ran a virus amd malware scan....attempted solutions I found online.Nothing has worked. I do not use a wireless router.
My computer stopped connecting a few days ago. It had been working great until then. I have two other computers in the same wireless environment and they are working great. I've done all the preliminary checks and had all the settings checked by Comcast (my internet provider) but they were not able to evaluate the problem without cost. I've been unemployed for the last two years so I need to find another option to correct this issue. Every time I attempt to connect, windows says that they are unable to renew the IP address. Limited or no connectivity is shown. I've also noticed that If I leave the home where I'm trying to connect, I'm able to connect to outside sources like Wayport or any other network without any problem. My router is a Linksys Model #WRT320N. It's working just fine with the other computers in the house. I tried cleaning out all my "preferred networks" in the wireless Network Connection Properties but that didn't work either.
i have internet connection which is connect using dynamic ip address but if i add ip address in Local Area Connection i get two networks, one is internet dynamic ip & other one is ip which i setup in Local area connection. so if i select LAN network for lan clients i can access lan. but now i have DLINK DIR 615 router so what should be my settings?
Ive assigned the static IP to Server, but when i go back to network properties it show Obtain IP address automatically, however, network working fine with previously assigned IP.
I've read a lot of threads on this and tried a lot of the suggested solutions... nothing has fixed my problem yet.I'm running Windows XP SP2. I've recently been installing a VPN and setting up firewall rules. I didn't have any problems (was using Comodo firewall) until I installed Sygate Firewall. I've since un-installed but still can't get Windows to connect to the internet via wired or wireless connections[CODE]
I have a rev. 1.0 Cisco E2000 router that is decent but when it comes to things like streaming video it severely lacks (especially when talking about HD quality). I know that the router is not really setup for that and it was more of an impulse buy when my old WRT54G v6 died on me. Anyways, I recently got $150 in gift cards to Apple and was thinking of spending it on the Airport Extreme as my wife has a 13" Macbook Pro and we plan on replacing out aging desktop PC with an iMac 21". Originally the gift cards were meant to go to the purchase of the iMac but car repairs and other things got in the way and so that has been put off indefinitely. However, I would LOVE to get a new router, especially simultaneous dual-band.
Quick edit: Things I am looking for in a router.... - SIMULTANEOUS DUAL BAND - USB connection - Relatively cheap cost (less than $150 would be awesome!) - Reliable - Good throughput for streaming and gaming
I've got an issue with one of the businesses I work with. Just yesterday a PC had this problem, and this morning one more followed suit. These PC's were given a 192.168.35.x IP address when configured to take whatever the router gives them, however our Sonicwall TZ190 is configured to hand out a 192.168.20.x IP address over DHCP. There were no secondary IP configurations on the client workstation, no virii, nothing out of the ordinary. When I set a static IP on the client it works fine, but when I put it back to automatic it will once again give itself a 192.168.35.x IP (and subsequently have a gateway of .35.1, somehow). I've checked the router, there's nothing on the LAN side of the network interfaces besides 192.168.20.x.
