We have a Cisco Aironet 1242 AG Series which we are trying to setup. The DHCP assigns the IP address, but we cannot connect to it. We have had this problem with a previous Aironet unit, which this new one we have got now is also having the same problem!Everything seems to be correct, but we cannot get to the IP address to set it up.
View 12 RepliesI am trying to setup VLANs and most of configurations are working ok now except IP address assignment from DHCP. If any computer in VLAN 120 or 130 configured with manual IP address, then all works fine. It can reach internal servers and the internet without problem.If the IP address is assigned automatically then any computer in VLAN 120 or 130 are obtaining IP address (strangely!) from VLAN 100. Because switch ports that connected to the computer belongs to VLAN 120 or 130, the computer cannot reach internal servers and the internet with ip address from VLAN 100 . All SVI interfaces for VLAN 100, 120 and 130 have ip helper-address option defined pointing to the DHCP server. No DHCP snooping enabled on all switches at this point. DHCP server have three scopes for the three different VLANs.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just rebuilt my network and I've encountered a problem with my wireless access. Right now I have a Dlink 2540B modem/wired router.To that is connected an 8-port Dlink 2208 Switch and a Linksys WRT110 wireless router. All the desktops connect via ethernet to the switch and everything is working fine. I just added the WRT110 and specified it would be a secondary router on the network but as soon as I got it connected it killed my internet. I assumed this was because of DHCP being enabled, which was true once I logged in and looked. I of course disabled it and now the internet is back up on the wired portion and I can connect to the wireless router as well. But the only problem now is that my wireless devices are not being assigned IP's at all. Specifically, my Mac says "airport has a self assigned ip address and will not be able to connect to the internet"How are IP's assigned to wireless devices that connect to the network via a wireless router with DHCP disabled?

View 9 Replies View RelatedWe have an ASA configured to access the internet, which works fine for clients who have an IP address assigned by DHCP, but not for clients with manually assigned IPs.
For instance, with the DHCP server configured to give IP addresses between 172.16.101.1 and 172.16.101.10, a device may get the IP address 172.16.101.1. This machine will have connectivity to the internet.
If we then configure DHCPd server range as 172.16.101.2 to 172.16.101.10 and statically assign the 172.16.101.1 IP to the client, it will not have internet access. It will, however have inside access and VPN access.
If I try to ping 8.8.8.8, the following is logged:
ASA 3 Feb 08 2013 15:51:01 8.8.8.8 xxx.xxx.xxx.100 Deny inbound icmp src outside:8.8.8.8 dst servers:xxx.xxx.xxx.100 (type 0, code 0)
Where 'servers' is the name of the inside interface the request is made from and 'xxx.xxx.xxx.100' is the external IP. It seems as DNAT is not working when the client IP is static assigned.

I also noticed that when i connect to the AP via console-cable, i can see the AP boot up in the console session, but then i do not get a login prompt, but it seems like the AP is responding; if i shutdown the interconnecting link between the switch and the AP, i do see log messages appearing in the console-connection.I have tried to debug on the Switch, but i need a password, so i can debug, which i do not have.,
I have 2 servers. 1 is a terminal server windows 2003 sb terminal server.(working fine) and the other is server 2003 small business DC configured with dhcp, dns, SQL, & wins. Last week one of the network programs that is located on the DC started refusing connections.So doing some trouble shooting I noticed that when I ping the server name I get a local address of *.*.*.42 when the address the machine is assigned is *.*.*.5. When I do an Ipconfig /all on the DC it only shows the *.*.*.5 number. I look in DHCP and *.*.*.5 is reserved for the DC Computer. And the *.*.*.42 isn't even in the address leases. I have also looked through the DNS settings and see no alias with the .42 number. And the number does not show up in the reverse lookup zone either.

I have to block my kids access at times, and when I do this they simply change their IP address and they circumvent the blocking.Other than punishing the kids (which hasn't worked - and they need computers and Internet for homework), is there anyway to lock a computer to MAC address to IP address so if they change it they won't get network/internet access?I also tried to set up network filtering and I put in all the PCs and devices I wanted to provide access for, including the router, but when I save changes I can no longer access the internet or the router. I have to do factory reset to get back into router config.Also, I'm on 1.30WW. I know 1.34 exists, which I tried on a previous router which died and was replaced by RMA; but this didn't solve any problems.

When I manually add an IP and DNS addresses I can't get online also. I have removed my security software (webroot) and have disabled Windows Firewall.The same ethernet connection works on another one of my computers fine.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an ASA 5505 configured with internal network, a DMZ, and a VPN on seperate subnets. The implicit rules allow my internal client computers to connect to the web servers on the DMZ IP, but I can not connect to the public NAT address from the internal network. I have a DNS server on my internal network and it does resolve to the public IP correctly. NAT seems to be working correctly because if I go outside the network and connect to the public IP or qualified name then I can get to everything correctly. I do not see any messages in the Cisco logs and the packet trace tool shows the route of http from an internal IP adddress to the external (NATed) address is allowed.
Specifically, I can go to http://192.168.1.121 from the internal (192.168.0/24) network, but I can not go to http://72.22.214.121 (the NAT address) from the internal network. If I am outside my cisco then I can go to http://72.22.214.121 easily. [code]
I have two 1231G Aironet's that work correctly when I connect them to my Catalyst 3548XL and my 3550-48-XL switches. When I connect them to the 3550-24-PWR switch I do see them when I issue sh cdp nei det. It shows me the IP of the wireless router. But when I ping the Aironet, I do not get any replies. If I plug the Aironet into my 3548XL and ping the IP, I get 5 replies. Here is the port config on both switches:

View 17 Replies View RelatedThis is my first time trying to configure a WAP for out network. I have an AP1141 connecting to an SG300-28 switch. The subnet for my WAPs is 10.10. 40.0/ 24. The rest of my internal network is 10.10.10.0/24. There are four other WAPs on the 10.10.40.0/24 network that I did not configure. When I assign an IP address - 10.10.40.7 to my WAP with the gateway as 10.10.40.100 (router), I cannot ping anything. If I assign the WAP an IP address - 10.10.10.192 with the gateway 10.10.10.100 (router), I can ping everything.

I waited until one of the leds lights on the ports starts blinking green I then connected the ethernet cable connected to my pc. I made sure my lan connection on my computer was set to dhcp.In the docs claim it should take about 1 minute to grab a new ip address. After a few minutes i check the ipconfig on my pc and I get the apipa address.The setup light on the switch remains green while system is amber. The led for port 1 stopped blinking and remains green.My pc is not grabbing an ip address I don't know what else to do.

The problem I am investigating involves the allocatoni of DHCP addresses from the device to a product we have designed that connects to the router. I am attempting to set the 880 up on the bench with no ADSL connection and just use the DHCP feature of the box for the 4 switch ports on the back. I have tried all kinds of configurations from default. Whatever I do I can't get the router to assign an IP address to anything that is plugged in (Windows or Linux machines). What could I be doing wrong ? It can't be that difficult to get the system to just act as a DHCP server.

There are 5 ethernet ports in the same ethernet switch to be assigned for one person (one note book), e.g. port 5, 6, 15, 16 and 23. The model of ethernet switch is cisco 2960S and one MAC address is configured on 2960S.
1. Does 2960S support this requirement to allow input the same MAC address to 5 different port?
2. If yes, can ethernet switch "smart" enough to forward the packages to "active" ethernet port which is connected to notebook and the rest of four ports are inactive.

The customer has 4 6500 switches. 2 Physical locations, and 2 switches at each locations. The locations are connected via 1 200mpbs metro ethernet(layer 2). We ran into an issue during a DR exercise. We had created a VLAN for DR testing purposes, that did not have any SVI configured, but the VLAN did exist on one of the 6500s. When the customer restored a VM to the DR VLAN, we lost connectivity to the production server. After some troubleshooting, we found the cause to be the same mac address showing up, but in a different vlan. Once we removed the DR vlan from the 6500 all was well. It seems like switches are ignoring the VLAN in the mac address table, and forwarding to the incorrect ports. The switch is not reporting any mac flapping in the logs. No spanning tree topology changes are occurring. Code version is 12.2(33)SXJ2 on all switches.

I tried doing this both in the CCP Express app loaded on the router, and also using the desktop CCP client. I can change other parameters without any problems, but when I change the ip address of the vlan the program hangs (as expected since the ip address should be changing). I then try to open it back up and reconnect but get no response from the router.
I can ping it no problem, and the http server is running according to the serial terminal.

It says several times that the stack can be managed from the stack IP address, and that the stack IP address is a system-level configuration item. But it never explains how to configure the stack IP address.
