i have a lan connection for internet, the wireless card is used for an adhoc connection to a device that does not have internet, my pc just keeps telling me i have no internet connection because it is letting the wireless connection take priority over the lan connection

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently moved into a new place and while unpacking I found my Linksys WRT54G router and I am currently trying to set it up to I can connect to it wirelessly. I am able to access the administrative settings fine, and have got it to finally connect to the router, but there is no Internet connection, nless I am hardwired into my cable modem. I dont believe I have the software installed on this computer and I cant seem to find a place to download it even on the Linksys website, and the firmware is probably in bad need of updating.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy desktop's internet connection is acting up. It's always worked fine, then all of a sudden it has stopped. I can still access MSN messenger and Paltalk, perfectly fine, and it is showing that I have an internet connection. However, when I open any of my browser windows, it cannot access the internet. My laptop and ipod are connecting fine on the wireless. I have my ethernet cable from the desktop plugged into the router, which is plugged into the modem. I CAN force the connection to work by 'talking' to the modem (using the IP address) and doing a disconnect and reconnect. This lasts for a little while, then it stops again. When I do my network map, it shows an 'unknown device' where the modem is supposed to be. When I disconnect and reconnect the modem, it changes from 'unknown device' to 'switch'.

After resetting the router (power off for several seconds) the internet-connection is available again.I have to do this every 1 - 2 days.

I recently got a new modem from AT&T. I hooked it up and everything worked fine for a few days. Last night some friends came over with their wireless devices (iphone, ipad) and after a while, the internet got really slow. Then it was unresponsive but it said that we were still connected to the network. So I decided to restart the router. Once it was finished rebooting, we were not even able to connect to the network at all. Even on my computer downstairs I was not able to connect wirelessly. I am connected via ethernet from the router right now on my computer upstairs and that is working fine. I have tried rebooting the router to factory settings, unplugging the modem, rebooting the modem, unplugging the modem, changing the router settings, pretty much every practical solution for simple connectivity issues.

I have several devices in a media closet (about 3 or 4 - Blu ray, DVR, ect) that only have wired ports. Since all these devices are right next to each other, I don't need to buy a wireless adapter for each one because that's just pointless. is there a way to have all 4 of these wired devices connect to a central device, which in turn this device connects to my wireless network? I know there is a way I just haven't been able to figure it out.And then, with this new device, is there some special way it has to be configured?

It connects beautifully to a Verizon router (I can browse the Internet), but I can't figure out how to share folders on my network. I have a Macbook and Win7 machine and both cannot see this old PC on the network. I have tried to ping the old PC from my Win7 machine, and it will only timeout. We have 3 pcs connected to the router via cable and 2 more pcs connected through wireless. Everything works great. But when I try to connect (want to connect 2 more laptops via wireless) either one of the two laptops, the whole network stops working immediately. I have tried updating the drivers (they are up to date), removing the password from the router, gave the laptops static IPs (and all other pcs as well) with no results. As soon as one of the 2 laptops joins the network through wireless, it stops working for everybody. However if I connect them through the cable they work fine. One of the laptops uses win vista 64 bit, the other one win 7 64 bit. We have cisco RangePlus Wireless Router wrt110.

I was trying to determine the IP, and MAC address of an AT&T Microcell connected to my network. I have no physical access to Microcell. I have been able to find the IP address, in the logs of the DIR-655, but nowhere else. Shouldn't it be listed under SETUP -> NETWORK SETTINGS -> NUMBER OF DYNAMIC DHCP CLIENTS?
I have a wireless network (cable modem and router) set up in my home, which all of my devices are able to connect to the internet just fine, all but two; one is a netbook and the other is a desktop. The netbook has a wireless card built in, and the desktop has usb wireless card. Both of devices are running xp (both are the only compters in my home ran on xp), and these are the only two devices that will not connect to the internet wirelessly, except for when the wireless is unsecure these two devices connect fine, but once I enable a password these two devices say connected with an excellent signal strength, but once I open up the brower no web page comes up (just a message saying server not found). These two computers are able to install automatic program updates from over the internet, but still no web page will come up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a setup where there are two networks. A 172.16.0.0/16 and a 10.1.0.0/16 that are separated by the dlink router. I am able to ping from the 172 network to the 10 network using a laptop that is directly connected to the router and that laptop can also browse the web fine. However, I cannot ping to that router or access that subnet at all from the 10 network (if I try to access its LAN (the 172 network)). The 172 network is on its LAN and the 10 network is its WAN. I can access its WAN fine. Also, there the router is not recognizing the laptop as a "directly connected deivce" but its not preventing the laptop from using the router. I have tried to make the router as least secure as possible but still nothing.
I thought about making Static Route to point towards the router's LAN but the only option it gives me is the WAN for the exit interface.
I just got a DIR-655 and set it all up pretty easily. I have 6 wired and 3 wireless. All work fine and all are set to use DHCP. But if I go (in the router) to the Lan Computers list under Device Info, three devices (2 wired, 1 wireless) do not appear. I do have a switch added to the system, but of the three devices connected to it, 1 shows in th Lan Computers list and the other 2 do not.Since everything works, I'm mostly just curious why this is. Every previous router I've had showed everything correctly.

Kinda like it doesn't refresh the list. Set to 50 leases. Questions: Is this normal? How often should it refresh? Is the DHCP time put in as minutes???

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a WAP54g set up as a repeater. It even shows in the WRT54g device list (Tomato firmware) as a WDS interface but nothing can connect to it. I have the repeater's MAC address in the AP and it's set to "Access Point + WDS" mode. I don't know what I could be doing wrong. Is it a conflict of DHCP on the AP vs static on the repeater?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have several devices connected to my Linksys EA4500. Two of them are my Apple Mac Pro and my Logitech Squeezebox Radio. For some reason, in 'Device List', my Apple Mac Pro has the manufacturer 'Logitech' and the model 'Squeezebox Radio'. As for my Logitech Squeezebox Radio, it doesn't have a manufacturer nor a model. It appears that there is a mix up with these two devices. I have cross checked the IP addresses and MAC addresses displayed in Cisco Connect Cloud with those displayed on the devices and they match - so it's not a case of mixed up names. Could this be an issue with Cisco Connect Cloud?

They all run Windows 7 Home Premium. After a few hours I started to notice that the DHCP client table is empty even if all four PCs are connected to the internet. This causes a networking problem because one of the PC serves as a file server and it grants access by IP addresses. Not being able to "see" those computers, my access is denied.

Both switches are connected by GE10 on both switches, where both ports are set to trunk.Now on all ports 1-9 on both switches, I'm having client computers attached. So I set ports 1-9 to "access" mode.All interfaces on any switch is left in default vlan.
Is it normal that I see all traffic from all connected devices on any port where I connect a listening device?What I'd like to achieve is, that only traffic that is meant for a specific workstation is actually forwarded to this workstation. By now it seems that I get all the traffic from everybody.
I came home last night and both my internet name and password were changed. I accessed the modem's website and changed both. I then hit connect to internet. My xbox worked, but none of my laptops. This morning I reset all the modem and the laptops. All of them connect but the internet is slow and fades in and out. My xbox tells my my NAT type is moderate. I go back on the modem's website and it says that none of my wireless devices can connect.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the 2wire Gateway modem to connect to the internet on my HP all-in-one desktop computer, which I bought a little over 3 years ago. Occasionally, the computer will show that the internet is disconnected, however the modem will have all it's lights flashing. After attempting several times to get to connect again, I called the support number, and they told me that I would either have to the ethernet cord hooked to the computer or purchase a network adapter. BUT my computer already had a network adapter installed in it before I even bought it, so I don't feel that I need to purchase one and I was able to get it to connect to the internet wireless by myself after hanging up. My question is how to keep my computer from wanting to disconnect from the wireless internet?

View 2 Replies View RelatedAll of a sudden whenever I reboot my PC it can no longer see the router (ie it won't show up anything when I type in http://192.168.1.1) Usually I just mess about rebooting the router or reinitialising the network card (as instructed by the wizard!) eventually this works.... but not today...I can't connect - all the time the laptop connected wirelessly to the same router works fine. It's set up to obtain an automatic ip address whatever that means, could this be the problem ?? When I ping 192.168.1.1 (an instruction I found on another forum) it doesn't work..

I also have 2 phones connected to wall jacks with DSL filters and made sure they both have 4 wire phone lines. I replaced the 2 wire phone line to modem with a 4 wire one. The desk top is connected to modem wired and internet works. There are 3 other slots but they are for TV box's that this company uses (CTC) I bought a Netgear router tried that several times called and ISP stated they won't work with Netgear.Ok so bought a Linksys E 1000 wasn't able to get that one to work either. Brought to another person's place and works fine. Connected back and only way to get to work wired to desk top is to have internet coming on on line 1 and compter on line 2. I can connect to router wirelessly to the routers main page but no interent. I can connect to the neighbors wireless internet so I have to believe that it's not the phones in the place. I can also run a wire from router to laptop and go on internet but does not work wirelessly.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI received a new hard drive along with recovery discs from dell yesterday. They told me the new drive would be blank and I would have to run the discs. Not a problem. Installed the OS along with the drivers that had check marks next to them.
Today I plug in my home internet and it won't work. Unplug it and turn the wireless back on and it gets online just fine.
