Currently I have a wireless router shared with a cable modem and three PC's. Would I be able to add the mac to this set up or do I need some kind of mac enabled router?The three PC's all run W7 Home Premium?

I have just taken over responsibility for a network and I don't know all of the nooks and crannies yet, so I'd rather not change the internal sub net. I've tried setting up a user then changing the LAN settings afterward, but it automatically removed the VPN user when I did so.

I have enabled the guest network and from all I can tell it's on a seperate subnet from my internal network like it should be. 192.168.x.x My internal is on a 10.x.x.x network. I conenct to the guest network using a laptop and I'm prompted for a password to get to the internet, which I like. The one issue I'm seeing is when I'm connected to the guest network I can still do an RDP session to internal resources. How is this possible if the guest network is on a seperate subnet?I take a laptop which has not been joined to my domain, connect to the guest ssid, and then open an RPD session and enter an IP address for an internal server and it connects. Is there a setting to keep this from happening

Now I have able Internet with a phone VoIP service. After trying to connect several ways, all the router wants to do is sit with a flashing power light. I cannot access the setup page wireless or wired and have tried several methods I found last night.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchase my first Cisco products for a network for our church. I have a RV180W router, WAP 121 Access Point and a SR2016T switch for our network, which is just pier-to-pier at this point. We have 5 computers connected with ether net through the switch and all see the Internet and work fine. The wireless connection through the router is working fine with our wireless devices (laptops and i Pads). Where I am having issues is with the AP. It is in different area away from the router being powered through POE instead of the regular power connection.
My problem is this: it takes FOREVER to connect to the AP and to the Internet, even when sitting directly under the AP with full signal. Once connected, it appears to allow Internet connection just fine, but getting to that point takes 15-20 minutes sometimes. Also, when I come back the next day, I have NO signal at all, as it seems the AP has "timed out" due to inactivity or something. I have to reboot the AP and the router to get it all back up and running again. I need for the signal to stay up all the time or at least come on when someone connects.
So, what am I doing wrong here? I have recognized and authorized the AP through the router config, security is set up fine and I can see it once it comes up. I have the AP set up as a completely different SSID, although I would prefer to have the AP as merely an extension of the router's wireless network if possible.
even though I have successfully added the network manually, using the same settings as my other laptop which has no trouble connecting. So now, the network appears in my "Connect to a wireless network" box, but whenever I try to connect, it says "Windows cannot connect to *name of network*" So when I troubleshoot the problems, it states "Check your wireless settings. Make sure your computer is in range of *Network* and that the network settings match the wireless router or access point settings." I KNOW it's in range because my other computer is connected properly right next to this one. So it must be a problem with my network settings. Though I don't see how that can be because my settings on both computers are exactly the same, but one's connected and one's not. Could the problem simply be that I haven't logged on to my router online to add this computer to the network?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI got the task of setting up a Guest wireless network for one of our remote campuses. We already have some APs that are connecting to our WLC.
The Enviroment:WLC Cisco 5500 is at our Corporate office. Connects to our Core Switch then to our Router Router connects to our remote campuses over mpls.
We currently already have APs at this campus that are connecting back to our WLC.
We have a DSL line at the remote campus that we want this Guest wireless routed to.
I have already created the guest network on the WLC and a guest VLAN on the Core switch.
My main question is how to configure the two routers for this and have this go out the DSL modem?
I have a thinkpad, and my friend next door said I could use their wireless which is set up through COX. I click on the icon at the lower right that shows wireless strength and a window opens up called "access connections" I don't know what to do from there. I see the wireless icon for the one next door on the diagram, I click on it which highlights it, then I click on "connect". It looks like it is going to connect because a green bar starts to fill in the "location" : "name" place, but then a little window pops up that says "connection failed.Recommended action: Verify that the encryption settings (WEP/TKIP/AES) specified in this profile match those expected by the wireless network.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt is the size of a 3 story townhouse but it actually has 5 floors, they aren't straight up I guess. The walls and floors are concrete so signal seems to be an issue for wifi connectivity. Right now my configuration is as follows:
Fritzbox 7390 - DSL Modem/router/N and G wifi located on 3rd floor
WRT160N - WAP/wired router in basement connected to Fritz box via G wifi and wired to PC and printer as well as a LAN over Power line
LAN over power line - only connected to Xbox at the moment on3rd floor to stream media from PC
I also have an Apple tv 2g on the 5th floor connected via fritz N wifi so I can stream iTunes media to a tv. The connection to the apple tv worked for a few days but now it seems to fail all the time. I tried streaming media to the Xbox as well as a PS3 over wireless but it always times out, that I why I am trying the LAN over power. I also tried sing a E3000 as a WAP but couldn't seem to get DDWRT to cooperate so it isn't being used right now.
how I can get this house better connected so I can have a reliable network throughout the house without breaking the bank? I am currently stationed in Germany, but am originally from the US so if I were to buy anything it would need to have an English interface, I am already having enough problems with the fritz box since it is only on German.

We have a Cisco 4404 controller and what I would like to do in order to prepare for BYOD is to create a wireless network that can be connected to with AD credentials. So basically, on any device, when users try and connect to this specific WLAN they will be prompted to put in their AD username and password to get access, that’s it, no other passwords. I will be using the Network Policy Server role in Server 2008 R2 as my radius server. how to actually set up the policy within NPS for this type of authentication. Also, on the controller side, am I basically just setting up the WLAN and then setting up the authentication server on the AAA Servers tab for security? Leave Layer 2 and Layer 3 tabs blank if I only want to use AD credentials?

In the past, I have copied the wireless network profile to a USB drive and inserted it into each machine and ran the setupSNK file to add the machine to the network. However, that was for 20 machines, I now have to configure 600 machines with the same wireless password and was wondering if there was an easier way. The access point to computer ratio is is 1:10. I have also tried using Altiris to deploy the setupSNK.exe file automatedly to each machine but I have not had any success. Re-imaging the machines is not option because sysprep clears off all network information.

Also, almost every cluster/lab has its own switch and we use static IPs with proxy to one network address(192.168.130.2). The user should be able to travel across multiple ROUTER/AP zones without changing connections.

I have installed win98 in a PC since my father wanted to use some old programs he likes. the PC has D-link wireless network PCI card. unlike win xp I heard that the wireless internet won't be set by just installing the wireless card driver on the system, but there are far more things to do in win98 to set your internet.

But for some unknown reasons I haven't been able to successfully pull it off. Let me explain.I have an ISP provided modem+wifi device. Its called PTCL Modem. I normally connect my laptop and other devices through its wifi. I need to extend the signals around my workplace. So I have bought a TP-Link wifi router (TL-WR740N). Both these devices support wireless bridging according to their admin settings. I'll go pic-by-pic to explain what steps I performed.Pic1: PTCL Modem wireless bridging options. It shows two options for AP Mode: Access Point and Wireless Bridge. And it shows three options for Bridge Restrict.
Pic2: TP-Link router home page Pic2a: I first change the TP-Link's IP Address, because the PTCL Modem's wireless is also using the same IP address (192.168.1.1) so the current address will conflict with it. I change the router's IP address to 192.168.2.1. It goes for a restart.Pic3: Next I turn off the DHCP Server, as suggested by various blogs and forums. Router goes for another reboot after saving this setting.Pic4: Now I go to Wireless Settings page and set Enable WDS on. It shows me bridging options.Pic5.
I click the Survey button and it shows me a list of wireless devices in its range along with their BSSID and Channel number. I select my PTCL Modem access point which is on Channel 6. My PTCL Modem's wireless is set to WPA2-PSK security with the password "********". I also set the Channel on my TP-Link router from Auto to 6, to come in line with PTCL Modem's wireless. Clicking Save makes router goes for another reboot.
