My daughter received an I pad for her recent 16th birthday and so I have added a Wi-Fi router to our home system. My question is how do I shut down the Wi-Fi and maintain access to the internet with my home computer? I am sure that everyone with children understands why I want to have this ability.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Airport Express and two wireless routers. The Airport Express is connected to Router 1 via Ethernet. Router 2 is connected to Router 1 via Ethernet. Since I like to know which Wireless Router I'm connected to, Router 1 & 2 use different SSIDs. Router 1 is the DHCP server (DHCP turned off on Router 2). All security settings are turned OFF.Router 1 is a Linksys WRT120N with latest firmware and Router 2 is a Belkin Wireless Router.I can connect via wireless to Router 1 and Router 2 via the seperate SSIDs and have Internet connectivity (Router 1 is connected the the Internet) and print to a wireless printer connecter to the Router 1 wireless network.
Now here is the strange thing. I can see the Airport Express only if I connect to the Router 2 wireless network!!! I cannot see it if I connect to the Router 1 wireless network, yet the Airport Express is connected via Ethernet to ROUTER 1 !So for some reason, the LinkSys WRT120N Wireless Router won't route the Airport Express to a wireless client on it's own wireless network, but it will route it to an Ethernet client which is what any client connected to Router 2 wirelesslessly is seen as. When connected to router 1 wirelessly I can ping the IP of the Airport but something is preventing it from working with iTunes/iPhone/Airport Utility. It is bizarre because these are all devices connected to the same LAN. SInce I can ping it, it tells me that it isn't a routing issue, but there must be some sort of filter between the wireless and ethernet that is preventing the Airport protocol from being transmitted.
I have the e4200v2 with Smart Wifi (formerly Connect Cloud). On my previous routers, I've been able to shut down internet access for my ENTIRE home network at a specific time each night and then re-allow access again at a specfic time the next morning.
In using the Parental Controls on the 4200v2, it appears I have to set times for EACH and EVERY device on my network. I have 4 kids and a very heavy wireless network, including 3 Xboxes, 1 PS3, a Bluray player, a Directv receiver, an RCA media streaming device, 4 laptops, 1 desktop, 4 IPODs, and 1 IPhone on my network.
My goal is to shut down the internet access completely each night at Midnight, then re-allow access the next morning at 6am in order to ensure my kids aren't up all night playing games, etc. But the the Parental Controls on the 4200v2, it appears I have to do this for EVERY device, instead of being able to just shut down access across the board like I could with the old Linksys web-based interface.
My E4200 recently started to randomly shut down. To say the least this is very aggravating. Nothing has changed, location still the same and it seems to be overheating or in the very least getting warm. In the last It will also shut down multiple times a day too. I have done some reading and am beginning to regret this purchase.

I tried doing the install sequence of the router just now (Clone MAC address, then release and renew DHCP, power cycle modem, router, and PC) but it still didn't work.

It will shut up and say that my wireless router needs to be reset, but all other wireless devices continue to work throughout the house. I could run any amount of diagnostic but it will not fix. The only time it fixes it when it says "repair as administrator" as one of the options in diagnostic test which does not always appear. I went to school yesterday, and my laptop would not connect to the wireless network there at all, but everyone else around me connected fine.

The problem starts when trying to shut sown Win 7, when I try to power off the system, the little blue light flickers about 1/2 dozen times then goes Steady Blue and stays that way till it shuts off..I have to manully take it out of the USB port each time I shut down my PC or it will get really hot and Probably burn up. I have tried all the power options and that does nothing...This did not happen when I was running XP service pack 3 32 bit.

After a cold start, factory reset and restore of the config file everything works fine. I have interconnection between all three parts of my network. However after ± 24 hour there is no connection possible anymore from the wired to the wireless network and vice versa. A normal power off - power on will not work. The only thing that works is running the factory reset procedure as discribed above. I changed the MTU to manual 1400 as was suggested on this forum, but that does not work. Apart from this issue, ADSL is hicks sometimes. From my ISP I heard that at certain times my router issues ten's of DHCP requests within one minute, while the connection (modem) remains perfect. I have the impression that after such a DHCP request storm to my ISP, the interconnection between my X3000 wireless network and my X3000 wired network is lost.

I have my internet connection connect to my main Linksys router WRT160NL (192.168.1.1) with 192.168.1.x.My 2nd Linksys router connect to the first one as Gateway as well.The 2nd router has its WAN ip of 192.168.1.100 and it's local subnet as 192.168.2.x.My machines at 192.168.2.x can get to the internet and connect to all machines in the 192.168.1.x network.However, the 1.x network can't access the machines on the 2's network. And because of that, i can not sharing or printing between two network.I try to add static routes on my main router (192.168.1.1) with the route: 192.168.2.0 mask 255.255.255.0 and defaute gateway 192.168.1.100However, the route not work still.anyway to make sure that the 1.x network able to access the 2.x network and from 2.x access 1.x for sharing files and printing.
