100 Foot Cable Or Wifi N?

Dec 3, 2011

Which would be better, 100 foot cable (about the distance the N would be going plus some walls) or a 100 foot cable into my attic and back down to my router?

Xbox Not Connecting To Internet With 75 Foot Cable?

Oct 1, 2011

I have a 10 foot ethernet Cable, and a 100 foot ethernet cable. Both cables work great from the router to my Thinkpad PC, and both work through the same port on the router. on my xbox the 10 foot cable works immediately when I hook it up to my xbox. The 75 foot cable will just not work to the Xbox. Again, it works fine to 2 of my laptops in the house. Is there a problem with Xbox and Long ethernet cables?

Equipment Necessary For A 400 Foot Range Outdoor G Network?

Dec 8, 2011

I want to set up a wireless video security system around my farm. I have been having a lot of predator problems this year and I am tired of getting up in the middle of the night and running outside in my underwear to check on my livestock (especially now that it is winter) because my wife thought she heard something attacking the animals. I have been looking around at wireless wifi security cameras to use with my home wifi network and all of them ( like the Foscam FI8918W) use IEEE 802.11g standards. I have done a lot of research on this and there is just no consistent data about to do this. I know that are a lot of smart people here because I have posted here before and got some great answers. So, I am just going to tell you what I would like to achieve and you can tell me how (if possible) I can do it. I am willing to buy all new equipment if necessary. I need a omni-directional wifi G network with a minimum range of 400 feet. I have several buildings to cover so it has to be omni-directional. My house is located 350 feet from the furthest building, so I figure a 400 foot range should give me good consistent results. I already have an old Linksys WRT54GS router with Firmware Version: v1.52.8. It is located in my bedroom against an outside wall and even now I get some signal from it out at my farthest building (350 feet) and even browse the web with my laptop. But the signal is spotty and seems to come and go for no reason. What is really funny is that I have less signal in the second bathroom on the other side of the house, but I guess that is because of all the walls in between.

Now I have read that you can increase a routers broadcast strength by modifying the router settings. But you need special firmware like, Tomato, to do that and I have already tried to install , Tomato, to my router with no success. So if modifying the router software is necessary, I will need another router I guess.

1. A good strong router capable of IEEE 802.11g.

2. A good strong outdoor antenna that will connect to the router.

My problem is that I can find good routers and good antennas, but nothing that say they will work with each other. And another thing is that it appears to me from what I have read so far, that the stronger the antenna is, the more narrow the vertical broadcast field is. So, if I understand this right, with a strong antenna, the antenna and the receiving device have to be about the same height horizontally speaking. So if I put the antenna on the top of my house, it will basically shoot right over all my cameras. But if I put the antenna lower along an outside wall, then the cameras on the opposite side of the house won't receive signal. But again, this is just my understanding of what I read so far. You can see now why I am so confused about this. The more I read, the more I get confused. It seem like this should be simple, like, "Buy this router, Buy that antenna". Surly, I am not the first person who wants to extend their home network to a reasonable outdoor range. It's not like I want it to reach miles (that would be nice except for all the hackers trying hack my network).

Can't Connect To Internet Via Wifi Only Works If Use Cable

Feb 9, 2013

my computer just randomly stopped connecting to the intenet. I checked my other computers and phone and found they were all working fine. I was having internet problems pior to this happening (internet was being very slow and some web pages and some videos wouldn't load. I think the latter had to do with flash player though.) I had also been doing some stupid stuff on my comp that I know can give you viruses. Furthermore I also knew that due to previous virus's I was not able to do a restore. So as you have probably gathered my computer was pretty buggered even before this problem. So decided to restore to factory default using some backup images I made when I first got the comp. That went smoothly however the internet stilll doesn't work unless I plus it in using a ethernet cable.

Linksys Cable / Dsl :: Wag300n Internet Is Not Available From Wifi Ap

Nov 15, 2012

I bought used Linksys WAG300N router from my friend.  Internet comes from Pirelli DRG-125AG to router. Incoming internet I connect to port 1, outgoing to PC - to port 2. Also I want to share Wi-Fi connection with my linksys router, but I got problem. I enable Wi-Fi, enter SSID, choose password, save changes, my phone connects to router, but says that internet is not available from this Wi-Fi AP. First time I connect Wi-Fi, it works good, but when I reconnect, that sh*t happens. I updated firmware to 1.01.07, restored factory defaults, but nothing changed. AP isolation disabled. Sometimes even after reboot, at first WiFi connection, I get same notification from my android.

D-link Dir-615 :: Router Can Be Connected Through Wifi But Not With Cable

May 10, 2013

i recently bought my dir-615 to hook up with my tp- td 8816 modem. After setting it up and successfully working one day, the router randomly stopped sending a WiFi signal. I restarted it twice and it began to work once more. I decided to install dd wrt build 21061 for my E3 dir -615 router. Unfortunately, i could not get it to work. I have dsl internet and my isp uses PPPoE. I used the option for the set up and filled out the appropriate information, but it would not work and the internet light on the router would turn orange.

Unfortunately i decided to play around with this router at the wrong time and the people in my house needed it. I decided to quickly re flash it by going into the emergency room(holding reset button during router reset until orange button starts blinking). However when i select the official d link firmware, it simply will not change. The page is stuck loading on the d-link emergency room page with no progression whatsoever. I tried the process 3 times already.

For some reason, i can connect to the router through WiFi but not through cable. When i connect through WiFi i am on the dd wrt firmware. I don't think i can return the modem to the store since it is clearly on DD WRT firmware.

I'm either looking for a solution to re flashing back to stock firmware, or making the internet work on the dd wrt firmware. The internet light turns orange when i select PPPoE on the set up...

Linksys Cable / Dsl :: X3000 Wifi Getting Low Signal

Nov 27, 2012

I've bought X3000 modem recently & the only issue is pops up for me is wifi signal is too low. I've got 2 routers with me. My old linksys router WAG200G has got no issues with wifi signal. I kept both routers at the same place & compared with same standard channel yet what astonishing me that WAG200G has got more stability than X3000 regardless inspite changing to wireless -N. Is there a way to solve it. Btw, I tried all the standard channels yet it doesn't make any difference.

Firmware Version:  v1.0.01.

Split Ethernet Cable One To Computer Other To Wifi Router

Dec 13, 2011

I have only one computer right now.Had two, and got very weak signal to laptop (since discarded) upstairs from Linksys g 54Mbits downstairs at main desktop computer desktop.I have tried three different kinds of 54Mbits wifi routers, all with no success.I'm going to get my wife a new wifi laptop for Christmas, and she wants to be able to use it all over the house. The 54Mbits will cover the downstairs, but, based on previous efforts, I am thinking of putting my modem in the garage, where the cable enters my house, and using a splitter on the cable coming out of the modem to make two IN cables, using one cable for my comp and a 54Mbits router (for downstairs coverage), and putting a second wifi router on the end of the upstairs cable, to cover the upstairs rooms. My house has cable outlets in every room, so I won't have to do any wiring.

I plan to leave the routers on all the time (at this time) subject to how much of a bandwidth drop they cause. I have a 100 Mbps connection, and I play games, so I'd like to retain as much bandwidth as possible. I assume the two "on" wifi routers will pull zero bandwidth as long as the laptop is off. (??)Or maybe I should just try an "n" wifi router, since they get twice the distance, and forget the cable splitter idea.
