802.11g Client Slow Down 802.11n Network
Nov 3, 2011If I have an 802.11g client on an 802.11n network, will that 802.11g client slow down the 802.11n network simply by being connected, or only when it is transmitting data?

Slow Internet While Using Torrent Client?
Oct 4, 2011When im using my torrent client bittorrent or now ive switched to utorrent i sometime have very slow internet. also when im using downloading using a torrent client even if im only downloading at only 20 kbps and not even using my total upload speed my router light is blinking very fast and i still have slow internet. I should note that on a website i go to and on my gmail notifier i get the error message " connection was reset".

Dec 13, 2012Just setup a Cisco 2821 acting as the easy vpn server. All good, however, the easy vpn client, say for example doing a speedtest, is REALLY slow.
For example, both the client and server have 100M / 5M connections and doing some local speed tests thru the isp, on the client side we are seeing 4M/2M? We have very few vpn clients right now, so I can't see the Cisco 2821 being overloaded.
I have tried messing with the mtu, adjust-mss settings on the wan port on the 2821, but, no real changes?

Jul 20, 2011Newbie network admin here and I'm having problem dealing with my LAN. I have two networks 192.x.x.x and 10.x.x.x, Configured at my Astaro 220 UTM, which obviously where the gateway is, from my UTM I have 3 isp connected which is the source for my internet. Now from astaro to my core there are two connection, 1 for the 192 network and the other is for the 10 network and from the core there goes my LAN where switches are cascaded.My problem is i'm having slow connection accessing from 10.x.x.x to 192.x.x.x network vice versa. what are the possible solutions is applicable, or the things I should check. plus I can't access(configure) my switches which is on the 192 network from 10.x.x.x. network through web.

Mar 15, 2011We currently have a company network set up with a PC acting as a shared resource containing shared folders for everyone to access (approx 30 users)The network is comprised of a business internet connection to a 5 port router which is then connected to a 5 port switch connecting to 4 computers and another switch which is connected to another 4 computers and again to another switch - this continues for approx 30 - 35 computers.We have 2 shipping databases connected to the first switch (2 of the for first computers mentioned) and about 15 of the 30 clients need to access these. Because there is this many people on the network we are running really slow and losing access to the databases/shared files on the network.We do not have the expertise or time/money to set up a true server/client network.We are moving to a bigger building and potentially hiring 10-20 more people.We are thinking about having a small (5port router) and branching it off to 2 24 port gigabit switches and the business folder and having one switch contain the 2 databases and all the users who need to access it and the other switch containing all the other users.

Jun 16, 2011I am setting up the network for the computer institue I work for. We are discarding the old network and are going for a new network. There will be 2 Computer Labs with 60 computers in each Lab. The staffroom will have 20 computers. The Accounts department will have 5 computers. All the departments are in the same building with just 2 floors. It will be a wired network. All computers should have access to the Internet. There will be a printer each in the 2 Labs, staffroom & accounts department which has to be shared with their respective network. The Lab computers will run MS Office, Adobe software etc. Likewise the the staffroom and accounts department computers will also have to run MS Office and probably Adobe software as well. We will be using Windows Server 2003 and are inclined to use IBM servers due to a partnership. Cost isn't a major issue and the management is willing to spend to set this up rightly in the first place.My main question is whether we should go for a thin client network with everything running in the main servers. In that case how many servers should we have and what would be the ideal config of those servers.If we go for workstation PCs for each user if cost isn't an issue then what are the benefits over thin client computersDo we have to have a separate server for data?

May 18, 2012I recently did a clean install of Win 7 64-bit Pro on my workstation. This was previously connected to my DNS (Windows server 2008 R2) which i use to host my files, music etc for my home network. I was previously able to see my network shares in windows explorer (client side) but now I don't. If i go to search box and \server the shared folders will then be displayed in windows explorer under network and i have access to them. I've done a small amount of digging but have so far found nothing to point me in the right direction. So while i have access i would like to be able to point windows media player to my shared music on the server, which i can't do now because I have no way to navigate to that folder. Same with other programs such as outlook, when i want to attach a file to an email i'm not able to navigate to the share. Weird as i have access to the share by search \server?

Jan 27, 2013I have a network of 6 computers that is not managed by a server. ISP has provisioned for 17Mb down and about 5Mb up. When I isolate the router provided by my ISP, I get optimal speed, but over the network speed tests show 2Mb down and 4Mb up. I don't see any network usage that would explain the drop down in speed.
So far I have powercycled all my network devices and replaced the cat5 cable that goes from the ISP's router to the switch.

Sep 24, 2012I've installed Fortigate 60B and now need to provide access to our guests. Guests must be isolated from office infrastructure. For this configuration I've set up DMZ interface with DHCP server. Client connected to DMZ port gets DHCP configuration but can't go out to the Internet.

Small Business Network LAN Is Very Slow?
Sep 30, 2011I just took a position and never had to work with networks that much before. Our lan is very slow and trying to figure out why. We have verizon business class 3 t1 lines dedicated 4 M. When I do a speed test we get about 4.05 average and 4.23 down. We have 11 computers on the network connected to a Dell power connect 2716. We have Two network printers and that is it. We are having problems with it being very slow when connecting to a share on the server or using RDP.

Slow Page Loading On One Particular Network?
Oct 23, 2012When my wife gets chemo, we spend the day at the hospital, and I login to their WiFi as a guest. When I do, I make a connection with no problem, but after the initial page comes up, additional pages load very, very slowly regardless of what browser I use (Chrome, Firefox, or IE). I don't have that problem on any other network. Moreover, other users on that same hospital network can login as guests without encountering that problem. So, the problem is not browser-related, and it occurs only when a single laptop connects to a specific network. I'm using a Dell XPS 16, running Windows 7 Pro with Windows Firewall.

I went out and bought a Belkin USB Wireless N150 network adapter and I download things at roughly 25kbps which just... sucks. I replaced 877 with Cisco 887 and copied all the configuration from Old cisco 877 to new Cisco 887 Router.Now My users can connect to the servers and which are in main office (remotely) and they can access internet everything is fine.

Aug 12, 2011i have a little network knowledge but the tp-link wa-500g is proving quite a challenge to set up.i am trying to set it up in client mode to use with the xbox 360.thhe problem is i seem to set everything up correctly but it doesnt actually seem to work or to connect to the main router..which is a sky sagemfast router...(could this maybe be the problem? and if so how could i sort this? i have set a static ip on the tp.link and set up in client mode and "supposedly" connected to the main router in which is hard to figure out if it has or hasnt...also my sky router has wpa security and i am wondering if something has to be configured in my tp-link wa-500g to connect? but i can find no information on this needing to be done.

Mar 28, 2011I have a problem with a client/server app: It is a web application that resides in C:inetpubwwwroot (aspx pages) of the server. The client is a Windows app that is installed into Program Files on the clients and when running receives commands from a webservice on the server. When I install it on a PC on our own test environment it communicates with the server perfectly, no matter how many times I re-boot the client, the connection never goes down. When I give the client to someone on a separate domain, they install it and everything is OK. However, once they reboot the PC (Windows XP) the connection to the server fails. The can still ping the server from the PC, they can even see the web service is up and running by typing into a browser but the connection now fails. If I get them to uninstall the client all and re-install, it is fine again. As I say, it is a reboot that breaks it (communication to the web service that is.) My problem is that I am completley blind to the setup on the client-side of those I give it to (I only email it to them, I have only been in the site once). The PC is obviously on a domain (with static ip addresses I assume) but other than that i know nothing. I think it is something similar to the way when you map a drive in Windows and then when you reboot it has lost the connection and you have to re-map it.

Does each EasyVPN client on the inside network take up 1 of the 10 VPN peer licences? This seems to be the issue from what I can see, just need confirmation.

Mar 26, 2012I'm trying to set-up 3 remote access groups on an ASA5520 running version 8.4(3) software so that remote clients connected via Cisco VPN Client can also access spoke networks which are also connected to the ASA. I've previously set this up on ASAs running v7.2 software without issue but don't seem to be able to do the same here and can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong!
I have set-up the 3 remote access groups:
Group 1 - subnet 192.168.1.48/28Group 2 - subnet 192.168.2.0/25Group 3 - subnet 192.168.3.0/25
My remote access user groups can all connect to the head office subnet (10.0.0.0/8) without issue. But only one of the groups (192.168.1.48/28) appears to be able to access the spoke sites (172.30.10.0/24 and 172.30.20.0/24) that I have set-up. However, I can't see what the difference is between the 3 groups I have configured so can't understand why it works ok for one group and not the others?
When I use the packet tracer, it tells me that the flow is being dropped at the VPN encryption phase but why is that? How can I find out more? Here's the relevant config on my ASA:
