Accessing NAS On Daisy Chained Second Router From Primary LAN
Nov 30, 2012
I have my main router hooked into a second router (main router LAN port to second routers WAN port). I have my NAS hooked into the second router via ethernet. Internet connections work well on both and I can see all devices that reside on the same LAN that Im connected to. How I can get devices on the main router to be able to see the NAS. Is there any way for devices that are connected to my main router to be able to see the NAS given that the NAS is hooked into the second router?

I have a question regarding two daisy chained routers. In the downstairs of my house we have our main internet connection that is hooked up to a router (router A). We also have an Xbox 360 hooked up to router A. Upstairs we have another router (router B) which is connected to router A. Connected to router B is a PC and another Xbox 360. Currently the downstairs Xbox cannot see the upstairs Xbox or PC. We used to have a network admin guy living in our house and the whole operation ran smoothly, however those days are long gone...

I'm attempting to connect multiple computers, laptops and printers to the same LAN. I currently have the switch daisy chained to the modem. I'm having issues with conflicting IP addresses and wireless access. I think I have to create static IP addresses but don't know which nor how.The hardware I'm seeking to have on one LAN:
- Netgear CGD24G Cable Modem from Time Warner
- Netgear GS116E un-managed switch
- iMac OSX 10.8.x
- Dell PC desktop, Windows 7
- Sony Vaio PC desktop, Windows XP
- Dell PC desktop, Windows XP
- Sony Vaio laptop, Windows 7 Pro
- MacAir OSX 10.8.x
- MacBook Pro OSX (not sure which OS version)
- HP JetDirect 300x Print Serve (hooked up to HP LaserJet 2300)
- Epson Artisan 835
- Netgear Universal Adapter for Home Entertainment (SAVB5004)
- Netgear Powerline 500 Nano
- Apple iPhones (4 of these)
- Apple iPad
Several of these can work wirelessly, though I prefer wired whenever possible.I have been getting IP address conflict notices as well as the wireless signal not being received on some of the wireless capable devices, which seems to be random but it could be that I just don't know enough to recognize a pattern. I believe the devices are all set to automatic assignment of IP addresses. What is the correct way to daisy chain the cable modem and switch? What is the correct protocol for assignment of IP addresses in order to avoid IP conflict? Why does my wireless drop on some of the wireless-capable devices (such as the iMac, MacAir or Sony laptop)?

I'm trying to create a VPN through a Cisco 861 but the problem is that the ISP forces me to use a SpeedTouch gateway ( as they use the MAC address for the authentication).By now, i'm getting OK pinging from client to 192.168.254.1, but I can't reach Internet. If I connect the client directly to the Speedtouch internet works properly. I have got 3 wifi routers i want to daisy chain. Router 1 is main modem router, which is connected to 2 pcs and 2 wif routers (wired separately), both of these wifi routers have there own ip address and dchp turned off, so they work fine and broadcast wifi nicely. now what i want to do is connect another wifi router to one of these routers (not the main one) but what setting do i need? i tried to connect the 3rd wifi router with the same setting as per the other two ie diff ip and dchp off, but when i plugged it into the port of the second router it would not show as connected or get an internet connection. Its probably quite simple to sort out, but with me being a dimwit i am tering my air out. If i could not use a wifi router for this 3rd connection, is there any other way of putting an extra 4 ports on to my second stage router.

I have sent up a wireless network in a large building using WAG120N Modem Router and four E1000 wireless routers set as access points. The E1000's have the DHCP switched off to enable roaming so the WAG120N takes care of all that.

I'm trying to install a webauth certificate -- it works fine when unchained, however once I add the additional information the installation fails. I am using the same root and intermediate certificate information as last year, and it worked fine then. I can recreate last year's pem file with the chained information and it installs fine, so it's only when I include the new device certificate information that it fails. The certificate installs fine when it's not chained, I'm not receiving any openssl errors, and I'm not using openssl 1.0.

I have a new Cisco 2960 S series switch with a basic configuration that needs to be uplinked or daisy chained to a Cisco 3750 switch. I am not getting any connectivity to the network with either a straight through or crossover cable. the port remains in amber but a 'show interface' indicates that the interface is up. I can manage the switch with a PC patched into any port on the switch with a static IP address. Must be something very simple that I am missing. Outlined below is the configuration.

I have been having problems when trying to host servers on games, etc.I have 2 routers. A modem router, which is a Thomson router. That is the main one. It has a wire connecting from it, to a D-Link router that is near my Computer, and my brother's one. Then that D-Link router has 2 wires from each port, to mine, and my brother's computer. So, I am trying to host games.I didn't connect to the Thomson one, which is also wireless. I am connected to the wired one (D-Link). When I try to host while connected to it, my brother, and other people can't find the server. My brother and me can find it on LAN, but not Internet. But when I disconnect from the Wired, and connect to the Thomson wireless one, and then when I host, I can find it on INTERNET. Even my brother can. He can connect to it perfectly.
I do not want to connect to the wireless, because then it will cause lag spikes every 5 minutes. So, when I disconnect from the wireless, and connect to the wire, I went into the CMD, and typed in ipconfig. I found out that the Default Gteway is the D-Link IP.When I connect to the wireless, and disconnect the wired, I went into CMD, and then the Default Gateway is the Thomson one, which is the main router. So what I want to do, is use the D-Link router, and that router will have the same IP as my thomson one, so that I can host perfectly with no lag spikes, and using a wired connection.

I would like to know if it is possible to add a second router to my home network.
My son wants to use his Nintendo DS online but the device does not have WEP capability, it can only deal with the less secure WPA option.
I am not willing to drop my preferred WEP just to facilitate one device, but I do have a spare router and I am wondering if it were possible to hook the second router up and allow him to connect using WPA?

I have just been reading an old post about running a Slave Router off of a Primary Modem/Router. That all makes sense for the setup side of it. My question is about open ports for devices connected to the Slave Router.. For example, I have certain ports open on my PS3 for playing Call of Duty online. Will all of the traffic for these ports simply flow through the slave router or do I need to open up all the same ports on the Slave Router?

what i am trying to accomplish is to set up a domain for my home network. the domain is going to consist of 2 server boxes both running ubuntu 12.10 server edition and a client machine running windows XPone linux box will be my DC using samba and the other will host email, and apache2 web services.i dont know if you need all of this info but in my experience its best to be thorough.I registered a domain through godaddy.com and made it point to my home IP address. now what happens because all of my machines are behind a router is when i type in my URL it brings up the login request for the cicsco webinterface. what i would like to happen is that my router points traffic to the ip address on my home net work 192.168.1.XXX that is hosting the apache2 webserver.I would also like to connect the client(XP) machine to the domain controller but i keep getting an error that says that the domain does not exist. I have been through the samba settings and they are exactly the same as when i set them up for a mock PDC using "example.com" as a domain name

I have more than 5000 sq. ft home and have some dead places other end of the house. Now I am looking for Range Extender/Repeater to boost signal. My primary wireless router is Motorola Surfboard SBG6580 and Secondary Linksys E3000 (planning to update firmware to DD-WRT). So I wanted something such that I can roam between the two routers without switching SSID (use single SSID name for primary and secondary DD-WRT routers) and connect automatically to whichever the best signal (or) strength router. In work place we have same thing like that single wireless SSID name which automatically connect wireless SSID from one end to another end of the building.

The computer recognizes the network wirelessly as the correct name and will only have "local access". When it is hardwired to the router it connects just fine, it also will connect to the unsecured (guest)network. I have comcast internet that is connected to an ooma box that is cconnected to the router. My laptop and the playstation find and connect to the internet just fine. The toshiba is running windows vista with a atheros ar5007eg adapter.

simple configuration of a 2801 Router. I have 2 internet providers with static ip's connected to F0/0 and F0/1 and one Vlan for LAN area. I would like to configure the router to use one primary line and just in case to use the back-up line. [code]
Now if detects that it hasn't cable link on the FastEthernet interfaces it's working. I'm using 2 wireless gateways to acces the internet each one connected on the 2 FaEth for simulating the providers. If i simulate an issue on the provider ( i've removed the sim from the wireless gateway) it doesn't pass on the second isp.I haved trying to configure with "IP Service Level Agreements " for failover / load balancing but the command "ip sla" is incomplete. I can't make an update of the IOS because the customer do not have an Service Contract with Cisco.

The router always inserts its’ own address as the primary DNS server for the all DHCP clients even though you have set the DHCP server on the router to assign manual external addresses?
Oh I have a
WRT310n v2
firmware v2.0.01 build 004
Let me elaborate a little so I am clear what I am saying. On the router setup page go to the section that is labeled “DHCP server settings” enter 3 static DNS servers. Say 2 Google and one open dns.
8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4
208.67.222.222
Apply your settings.
Release your ip on your workstation, then renew it. And look at your DNS, the routers address is still the first entry.
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
I suspect this was probably a design decision so that they could allow a user to open their web browser and type something neat like [URL]. Which for the average user is fine and dandy. If my ISP didn’t suck and try to redirect everything to cached copies I probably wouldn’t have noticed it. But since I end up using the router for DNS and it picks up DNS from my ISP I end up getting Akamai IP addresses, and they have problems with SSL certs…. So you get errors.
I know I can go set the DNS server settings on the workstations. But I really don’t want to do this on all of my devices as they are mobile and switch networks, and on some networks not using the local dns breaks things. Like on the corporate network.

Is it possible to daisy chain 3 switches and not have ip conflict? I am running a public access network for a library. For certain library software I need for all workstations to see each other. I have 25 workstations in total and two separate management consoles. I have all workstations on two switches but one of the management consoles is on the third switch because when joined with the others it has an ip conflict. I need this console for the digital sender that is connected as well as to act as a server for go print software.
