Cisco WAN :: 5520 Fail Over Between Serial (MPLS) And Ethernet (VPN)

Dec 29, 2011

I have a 1941 router with the security  licence.  I am setting up both a T1 wic that connects to my enterprise MPLS cloud and one of the two gig interfaces that will connect to my home office through a VPN tunnel to a ASA 5520.  I have tried multiple solutions though my gues is that I am making this WAY more difficult than it needs to be.  What I am trying to create is a primary on the serial interface and then a failover through the VPN.So far, I have tried to:

-Track the serial interface and then set the default route, based on the tracking
-Create an IP SLA to echo the gateway of the serial interface to change the routing
-Started to create HSRP between the two interfaces though I could not figure out if / how a standby could be put into a sub-interface on the serial

The SLA seems to be working somewhat.  The problem is that it is not transparent and sometimes even needs me to clear the VPN tunnel to get things back to smoothly through the serial interface. [code]

Cisco WAN :: 2951 - Installation Of 2x4 Mbps MPLS Circuit And 1x8 Mbps Ethernet Link

Feb 18, 2013

Installation of 2 x 4 Mbps MPLS circuit on primary router (CISCO 2951) and 1 x 8 Mbps Ethernet link on secondary router (Cisco 2951). We have successfully implement the primary router with 2 x 4 Mbps MPLS circuit. Site is having two computer room CR1 and CR2 and distance between both room is 200mts. CR1 is having primary core router and primary core switch where the service provider terminated the new MPLS circuit and we have done the successful implementation. CR2 is having Secondary core router and secondary core switch where we needs to have the termination of Ethernet link but service provider has delivered the Ethernet link on the CR1 which is incorrect DMARC Location.

Both the computer rooms are connected via optical copper can we use that copper to connect the circuit on CR2, as per my understanding we can use the optical fiber to connect the wind circuit on secondary router on CR2 by using the media connector.

D-Link DIR-615 :: Getting Low Wireless Signal Quality?

Jan 19, 2012

I took my router with me to visit family at Christmas.  It wouldn't allow the wired computer through the switch, but yet I could talk to the router with my laptop.  Rather than reconfigure, I bundled up my router & laptop and let well enough alone. Now that they're all back at my house, I can't reliably get the laptop to connect - Low Wireless Signal error.  I've reset the modem & router repeatedly.  Tried Channels 1,6, 11 and 8&9 too.  n only, as that's my laptop's.  On 2 occasions it has connected, rebooted and auto connected and run for 4-5 hours.  Then it's gone.  I've beat this mess for 3-8 hours per day, for days...!!!Laptop(Vista) connects to every other wifi I've tried.  It's sitting 4 ft from the router.

misc. info.
separate dsl modem, Centurytel, Netopia Cayman 3300 series
no other devices beyond wired desktop and laptop
no changes in other neighboring networks

Cisco WAN :: 3750 Improve Quality Of Skype Calls

I'm in charge of the IT of a dorm with 200 inhabitants. A lot of people complain about the bad quality of "skype-calls". Audio is delayed and video stucks. The actual speed of our internet connection should be fast enough so I guess it has something to do with the QOS setting. I checked it on our WLC 3750 and right now we use Silver (best effort). Could there be any improvement when I set it to Platinum?

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 Call Quality Is Very Poor

Nov 3, 2011

I have a client using a VOIP service to a third party provider (RingCentral). They are connected via Cable ISP (6mb) to the Internet and now experiencing performance issues with their VOIP service. They indicated that the call can be heard but that there is jitter and choppines in the call and they have to place a regular landline call. Their provider recommended using QOS to improve. I did not see anything straight forward on the ASDM interface to do this and figure it may require command line to accomplish.

They have Cisco IP 303 and 5252G2 phones which connect through an ASA5505 7.2(4) to their provider for service. Apparently the voip app uses the following ports:

UDP
5060-5090
8000-8200
16384-16482

What would be the best solution to improve performance or perhaps traffic shape / priortize traffic to work. I assume this may be happening if there are heavy downloads or activity happening on the network. The ASA5505 is on 7.2(4). Some coded examples for the above info.

Wifi Signal Is Of Poor Quality On 3rd Floor

Dec 11, 2012

I have a wireless router on the ground floor of my home which is wired to my PC on the 3rd floor. The wifi signal is of poor quality on the 3rd floor. I cannot move the router to a different floor since all of my connections are wired through the home into my networking room (on the ground floor where my router is). I wish to add a media receiver to a different room on the 3rd floor that is not wired already for networking. Streaming video files wirelessly to the media receiver from my router will not work because as stated previously the signal quality is poor on the 3rd floor. My mobo on my computer has ASUS wifi GO. Can I enable the wifi go on the mobo of my PC (located on 3rd floor) to connect to the media receiver (also on the 3rd floor) for streaming? The media receiver will also have an internet browser so will I be able to connect to the internet as well if it is networked to my PC and my PC is connected to my router on the ground floor?

I basically want to keep my PC connected to my main router for high DL speeds and also have my PC networked wirelessly to my media receiver using the on board wifi go. If possible I'd also like to be able to access the internet on the media receiver via the PC.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Voice Quality And 45xx QOS DBL Feature?

Oct 12, 2006

Had problems with voice quality on VoIP with 4500 series switches and the qos dbl feature (which gets enabled by the auto qos feature)?? I have had a couple of customer complaining about voice quality and our voice team spent a lot of time investigating; I had ruled out the network infrastructure because it was all QOS enabled. The voip people came up against a blank so I looked at the network once more and disbaled dbl with hope more than anything else. Mysteriously the voice quality issues the customer was having have now disappeared. Not sure whether a coincidence (though I have done this on two customers now) or something to with with dbl. There is nothing on this on cco.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: ASR 1000 - Checking Link Quality

Mar 3, 2012

We have branches all over the country and we take different links like fiber (Ethernet) radio links etc. Now sometimes when we ping from branch WAN ip to its gateway or to the aggregation router (ASR 1000) in this case, we see some drops, but see no problem in actual HTTP or lotus communication.

What i want to know, that now a days, should we rely on ping results to determine link quality ? or should i use tools like iperf to basically see if the link is actually treating tcp and udp packets properly, I have heard this countless times that normally network devices like Cisco routers, even without any QOS, will give low priority to ping packets.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Horrible Connection Quality And Regular Disconnects

May 18, 2012

I tried multiple times to register a username here and no matter what I chose I would only get "An Error Has Occurred" when I submit the info. I've tried this over several days and keep getting the same dead end. So, I went to bugmenot.com and I'm using a generic username that was given there in order to post this. So...there's that...

Starter info... I'm running Hardware Rev A4 of the DIR-655 on the 1.33NA firmware. I never upgraded past that firmware because of all the horror stories I'd read about new firmware here. Up until lately it's been fairly stable. The issues I refer to SEEM to coincide with my recent installation of Apple TV hardware on my wireless network, though I can't confirm. It's never been great with this router, so that could be coincidental. On my network I have a hardwired Mac Mini, wireless Macbook Pro, a hardwired D-Link DNS-321 NAS box, Apple TV, Logitech Revue, iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone and occasionally one each of a Samsung and LG Bluray player (only when they're powered up, which is rarely). I'm also using a wireless repeater in the middle of my house because the DIR-655 doesn't yield a very usable signal in my master bedroom, which is on the opposite side of the house as the router.

With all that being said... I have had terrible issues being able to keep a steady connection wirelessly with this router as of late. Streaming Youtube videos will stop after a few seconds, loading websites will just stop responding all together, and I can't even keep a connection to stream music from my Mac Mini to my phone or AppleTV using Home Sharing in iTunes. I'll get a few seconds of a song and it will just drop out completely. It's been extremely annoying and I'm ready to take a hammer to this router, to be honest.

I've checked my logs and there were all kinds of FIN:ACK, PSH:ACK and SYN:ACK TCP packets that are being blocked. I noticed many of them were coming from Apple IP addresses, so I assume that the AppleTV had a lot to do with those. I actually used the Inbound Filter settings to allow requests from a whole block of Apple IP's, which seems to have settled log items from them down a lot. There are still quite a few that seem to be coming from Google IP addresses (I presume the Logitech Revue since it uses the Google TV interface?), but the Google IP's are too random to go allowing a large block. [code]

I have Advanced DNS disabled. All Traffic Shaping and QoS boxes are checked to enable. Comcast is my cable internet provider. I've noticed that my WAN Connection Up Time is often a fairly low number like the connection to the cable modem drops out frequently.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Speed Quality And Signal

May 27, 2012

Bought the new EA4500 a couple of days ago and have looked at my wireless connection and see it varies from 72Mbps to 144Mbps.  It has jumped up to 270Mbps a few times, but rarely.  Shouldn't it be 300Mbps most of the time?  My laptop is 4 feet away from the router and the router is on top of a card board box being elevated away from interference.  The prior router was a dlink 855 that went whacky after 3 years.  I believe I was usually at 270 Mbps with that.  What gives?  Do I have a faulty router?  With this new router, I expected the range to be a lot farther and faster too, but it is not in my family room.  2nd floor router, family room is 1st floor about 50 feet away and I get 1Mbps - 5Mbps.    Everything is set to Auto on router and IP6 is disabled on laptop.

Protocols / Routing :: Thinkpad W500 Bluetooth Poor Audio Quality

Jul 17, 2012

I recently bought a Bose Soundlink bluetooth speaker and have paired it with both my ipod touch and ThinkPad w500. The iPod Touch sounds great, but the audio coming through the speaker via the w500 sounds like it is clipping, especially at normal-loud listening levels. Both the soundlink and the w500 have the latest bluetooth driver updates installed. The clipping occurs even when the main volume (and iTunes/Spotify) is turned down to 50% power.whether there is a way to reduce the "power" of the bluetooth signal so it does not cause the speaker to distort. Audio played through the speaker via 3.5mm from the w500 sounds great even at high volume.

Currently installed bluetooth drivers:

Bluetooth Enumerator (Microsoft)
ThinkPad Bluetooth 2.1 with Enhanced Data Rate (Broadcom)
Bluetooth Hands-free Audio (Broadcom)
Bluetooth Remote Control (Broadcom)

Cisco Routers :: How Does Quality And Longevity Of SRP500 Series Compare To RV Series

My Draytek 2710 just dies after 2 years so I was looking for something a little more reliable and noticed the spec of the SRP527W-U.I take it with only one antenna and reading a couple of past discussions, the wireless will only manage n-lite as some people call it i.e. 150Mbps, and not the full 300? Oh, and are the ports still only 100M and not Gig?I know the 547 would tick both these boxes but we are talking twice the price.  How does the quality and logevity of the SRP500 series compare to the RV series (which would need an adsl modem) or the Linksys boxes?

Cisco WAN :: MPLS MTU 6500 With SUP 720

Jan 14, 2013

Just like to ask first your inputs about the MTUs needed on our proposed setup. We currently have a large internal network composed of several metro ethernet links. We have different carriers and we all know that they do not always provide L1 connectivity. They sometimes do Q-in-Q or EoMPLS or other technologies that would hide their internal network and appear as a point-to-point ME circuit to customers.

We are planning to create our own MPLS network for our clients so we don't have to leak their networks inside ours and we are trying to avoid the overhead of GRE/IPSEC since we'll be adding a lot of client networks and the overhead is not reasonable. So we just thought of MPLS-VPN to at least reduce the overhead and we don't have to purchase a lot of network devices.

With that said, what is the safest thing to ask the carriers and what settings should i put in our network devices. I am still confused with the differences of MTU, IP MTU, and MPLS MTU.

We also have one circuit running 802.1q instead of using routed-port on the switch. Is 802.1q supported in LDP?

Our internal network is comprised of 6500 switches with Sup720 and Gigabit linecards and we are planning to use 3900 routers as PEs. We all hooked up our ME circuits across the 6500 switches.
