Cisco :: How To Find Useful MIBs For Cat 6500 / ASA5540 / Cat 3750-E Devices

Jan 10, 2013

i am setting up a new Monitoring System (CA Netvoyant). It has some default Cisco monitoring capabilities ( I believe these are soem standard MIBs).  I am wondering how can I add more useful Cisco MIBs for the devices I have in my network. There are thousands of MIBs and it looks like it is not easy at all to find the useful ones.For example the MIBs that can give you Emergency and up to warning level information, cpu, memory, interface errors, module failures (in case of Cat 6500), FWSM, BGP, VPN tunnel status notifications. Is there a list of useful MIBs for each device type, like Cat 6500, ASA5540, Cat 3750-E etc depending on IOS Image?  setting up the SNMP monitoring system?

Cisco :: 6500 - MIBS To Monitor EtherChannel And Trunks Via SNMP

Feb 19, 2009

I would like to monitor the status of ether channel and trunk configurations in 6500 Catalyst switches running both CATOS and IOS.  I would like to understand the specific mibs /OIDS that should be monitored for ether channels and trunks.  I am trying to get a better handle on tracking the ether channels and trunk dynamically and then understanding when the ports are having issues (up/down and errors).  I need to understand how to differentiate these type of ports from regular access ports.

Cisco Firewall :: One ASA5540 With Two 3750 Connections

Jan 9, 2013

i have two CAT3750 need to place in L3, and it supposed that used as L3 switches by SVI for L2 routing, and I want to these two configured as redundancy by HSRP. but now I can only have one ASA5540 to connects these of L3 switches.

so, here is my questions:

1. does ASA5540 support multi vlan?

2. does it support spanning tree protocol?

3. if I've choiced to use trunking between two L3 switches, does it can pass through HSRP hello msg?

4. achive network redundancy

Cisco :: 4503 - MIBs V1 And V2

Oct 4, 2012

I have a doubt regarding MIBs. I dowloads the MIBs for Cisco 4503 for a specific IOS. But the folder is divided by v1 and v2.

What does it mean v1 and v2? The version of SNMP?

So if I enable just SNMP Trap (''snmp-server enable traps.....'') I should use MIBs v1 but if I enable also the number of Retries and Timeout ( ''snmp-server inform retries...'' and ''snmp-server inform timeout...'') I sould use MIBs v2.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6500 - Randomly Devices Will Drop Offline And Then Come Back

Aug 28, 2012

I have a network that has a pair of 6500 switches on either end, running HSRP. In between each 6500 are two to three ruggedcom switches. They are connected to each other and the 6500's by trunk ports in a straight line. The 6500's see each other as CDP neighbors, and the 6500's can see the rugged- com as LLDP neighbors (ruggedcom only supports LLDP).

The issue is that randomly devices on the ruggedcoms will drop offline and then come back. The problem is that the devices that drop offline are all in the same VLAN, so it appears like a virus -  i.e. one device drops off, then multiple. Eventually the HSRP starts flapping between the two 6500s and this causes havoc on the network.I'm almost to the point of taking a laptop and plugging it into one of the ruggedcom's to see traffic, but the issue is that the ruggedcoms are outside in cabinets that laptops shouldnt be exposed to.

Cisco :: 3750 - DFM Is Showing 40 Devices

Oct 10, 2011

My DFM is showing 40 devices in the "Questioned" State. Lots of them are 3750 switches and 2801 routers. It has "Known" a few of the 3750s and 2800s, but most of them are Questioned. How do I go about troubleshooting this? It's

DFM 3.2.0, part of LMS 3.2;
I tried to reinitalize the DFM database, but that caused all sorts of other issues like my ANIServer not running anymore etc. I have a ticket open with TAC for that issue though.

Cisco :: How To Find Attached Devices By MAC Address

Jun 21, 2011

We have a pair of Cisco 6513 switches, to which a selection of Wintel/Linux/UNIX servers are attached, but we have some connections that we can't identify and the data centre is a remote lights-out operation operated by a 3rd party in another country. determining which server NIC ports connect through (via patch panels) to which ports on the Cisco switches.In particular, I have a UNIX (HP-UX) server that has 4 dual port NICs (ie. 8 LAN ports), of which only one is assigned an IP address, but I can see that the other ports have connectivity at level 2 (HP-UX has a "linkloop" command that is analogous to an IP "ping" but takes a MAC address, and I get a response from each when I check from another server). This means that I know that there is a physical, electrical, and level 2 connection.The one server port with the active IP address set up shows in the switches address table ("sh mac-address-table") and it gives the port it is attached to. But the remaining 7 ports do not have IP addresses assigned and so are not listed in the table.

PC Can't Be Found On DLNA But Can Find Other Devices?

Jan 16, 2012

I am having a major issue trying to connect my Windows 7 HP Netbook to my Xbox 360 over either Twonky/Serviio or Windows Media Centre. The Xbox just isn't picking up my computer, my homegroup recognises the Xbox and it is 'Allowed' to share media, but when I test my PC connection within the Xbox dashboard, it fails to connect to PC. My network is wireless.The strange thing is I have TwonkyServer Mobile running on my Android phone and that was found by my Xbox immediately with no need to change settings or search for devices. It streams media just fine from my phone. This leaves me thinking that it is an issue with my PC as opposed to my router, I have double checked my router settings (Sagem 2304), UPnP is showing as enabled, I've reset and unchecked/rechecked the UPnP but still not working.

My TwonkyMobileServer is also unable to find my PC server although I have been able to find my MobileServer in Windows Media Player and stream media from my phone.Windows Firewall has been disabled, I've also Uninstalled my antivirus software, Avast and AVG, although AVG doesn't seem to want to disappear that easily and is still lurking in my System Tray telling me i've 'Lost protection'...Norton Internet Security is also lurking around which is odd, I can not recall installing it! It doesn't seem to be a fully installed version and doesn't seem to want to be uninstalled. Could these AV software and supposed Internet Security software be holding me back?This leaves me thinking that my PC is holding back my Network. Is there any thing I haven't thought of? Would it be the Anti-virus leftovers ruining my streaming dreams??

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Etherchannel - Redundant 6500 To 3750 Datacenter Switch?

Mar 27, 2012

I have 2 6504's running HSRP as my core.  They are each etherchannel'd to my Datacenter switch (3750 Stack) -- see image below.The problem i a having is with the etherchannel status:

Core1 PO11 status w (waiting)
Core2 PO11 status P(bundled)

DC11 PO48 status P -- but only to Core2 - the interfaces to Core1 are suspended. (See attached configuration documents)  None of the devices have any information in the logs.  I run this same configuration in my central location, but we are running Nexus 7000's.  With the 6500's, do I need to split the port channels on the 3750 to allow them to negotiate the etherchannel? If I split the portchannels, are there any concerns? Should I expect to see the etherchannel status as P (Bundled) or H (Hot-Standby)?

- A 3750 stack unit count as one (for example a 4 units stack consumes 4 license)  ?
- A WLC (except 5500) does not consume a license but only the Lightweight APs.
- An autonomous AP does not consumes a Lifecycle licence ?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Devices Cannot Find WRT400N / Signals Wirelessly?

Sep 6, 2011

I've had been successfully using a WRT400N to extend my wireless network as follows:

The WRT400N connected to my network via an Ethernet port in my kitchen. The cable ran down to a corner of my basement connecting to Verizon router that brings in our Internet, TV etc.

The Verizon router's poor location was a problem, and placing the WRT400N in the kitchen worked perfectly, providing excellent network access and Internet to wireless devices throughout my home. It worked fine for over a year.

Recently, we had a power outage which reset the WRT400N to factory settings. and I am having trouble getting it to work again. I set it up in the first place, but am now having difficulties. Clearly, I am no guru!

I tried to get it going again by: 1) plugging the WRT400N into a PC and giving it a new IP address that would not conflict with the Verizon router (both default to 192.168.1.1)   2) turning off DHCP,  3) renaming the router, 4) changing the router password, 5) setting up a WPA2 security key.

I then plugged the WRT400N back into the kitchen Ethernet port, but something is wrong. Wireless devices cannot find the WRT400N.

The good news is that I can "see" the WRT400N through any PC on the network via a browser and access setup, but the bad news is that devices cannot see or connect to the wireless signal.

When I go to "Status" it shows the IP address, subnet address and default gateway all at 0.0.0.0. On the SETUP page, it has the correct router address (192.168.1.9), and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. Not sure if it is supposed to be this way...
