Cisco Firewall :: ASA5540 Memory Upgrade - 3Gig
May 10, 2011I upgraded our ASA5540 to 8.4, THEN noted the increased requirements for Memory. I purchased the 2Gig upgrade, but when installing in the Primary unit today, noted that there were 4 slots. Slots 1/3 had 512Mb modules, so I installed the 2 x 1Gig modules in slots 2/4.
The ASA5540 came up clean, and it "sees" the entire 3Gig of memory.
My question: Is this a SUPPORTED configuration? All documentation I have read only mentions 2Gig of memory. Also, If I had FOUR x 1Gig memory modules, would the ASA5540 support the 4Gigs of memory?

Nov 4, 2011I have a Cisco 1921 ISR Router with Security License running software version 15.0. I want to upgrade the router to 15.1. But I don't want to lose the security license that came with the router. When I look at the IOS downloads page on Cisco, all I see is universal images for all versions of 15.1.
My question is - where is the security license stored? In the IOS or programmed in somewhere else of the router? If I upgrade my router to one of the newer 15.1 universal images, will I lose my security license?

So, we ordered the free of charge 4.0 to 4.1 minor upgrade license. Now we have a 3.x to 4.0 upgrade license and the 4.0 to 4.1 minor upgrade license and don't know how to proceed.
Is it now possible to install 4.1 from scratch directly and use the 4.0 to 4.1 upgrade license to register it? Of course we want to avoid to install 4.0 as an extra step...

The first one is the license to have 20 context and the next one is upgrade from 20 context to 50 context. My problem is that I haven't could find a service support contract associate them.I want to know if they have or not service contract, because I can´t find them.

Feb 4, 2013We are planning to upgrade the ASA license in an A/S pair by adding the ASA5500-SC-20= license. The ASA is 5545 and runs 8.6. According to documentation, after 8.3 version, the ASAs can share a license features and do not require the same license on both boxes. I run a test in GNS3 with 8.4(2) images and I saw that by adding the 'activation-key' command only on the primary unit did the job as the 'show activation-key' output shows. In order to be 100% sure would like to verify the following:
Putting the activation-key only on the primary unit is enough and there is no need to do anything elseIn case the primary unit is standby, again we have to put the actication-key command on the primary unit (I am asking this because the 'activation-key' command is not listed under the commands that are not replicated to the other unitk, but doesn't make sense to be replicated since the activation-key is 'tied' with the S/N of the device).

I now have the permanent license and I was wondering if I could install the permanent license without having to remove the switch from the stack. I tried a license install but that failed. The switch is not currently the master but I figured I might promote it and then try the install.

Sep 4, 2012I have an ASA5540 running 8.4(3) which has CA and identity certificates from godaddy.com installed, identifying the ASA to VPN remote users (the are using the anyconnect client.) There is also a separate certificate server located on the inside LAN that is used for internal purposes. All client workstations have identity certs from this internal server.
We would like to be able to continue using the existing godaddy CA/identity certs to identify the ASA to the clients, but we'd like to use the internal CA server to identify the clients when they initiate the AnyConnect session to the ASA.
I have seen other postings that state you cannot have more than one vert on an interface, but this is a little different - only one cert needs to be used to identify the ASA. The other one is only to identify the users. The ASA did allow me to import the internal CA cert.

This platform has an ASA 5540 VPN Premium license.After doing some poking around I came across a link to request a free license but when the email came it warned that the requested license was lower than one currently assigned to the serial number provided. I do not have any of the old license information since this was set up years ago and was way before my time with the company. How to enable the feature as well as maintaining my vpn premium license features.

The tunnel is up but there is no reachability. The "show crypto ipsec sa" on the ASA shows encapsulated packets but NO decapsulated packets! Routing and no_nat are properly configured.
