Cisco Routers :: Remote VPN Access To RV082 From ISR 2900

Oct 23, 2012

I have a customer that has a Cisco 2900 Series ISR on his Headquarters, and has some branches with RV082s.We have VPN Client configured on the 2900 ISR Router and we can connect remotely using the VPN Client to the Headquarters (  however we can't reach the branches subnets (,, etc.)... we found out that in the RV082 you need to specify the secure traffic as a destination, but in only supports one network ( or Headquarters in this case), we can't specify the VPN Client pool defined on the ISR so it can reach the incoming VPN Clients. Is there any way to accomplish this? We need to access the branches subnets when connecting using VPN to the 2900 ISR.

I have a RV082 and several of my remote laptops cannot access my server using its domain name. It can be accessed using its internal ip address. The issue is that you can log onto the server using remote access and the ip however you cannot use any shortcuts using the domain name. You can see the server with the domin name however no access path is available. This is only on a few remote user laptops. Others work perfectly.

Cisco Routers :: RV082 - Configure WAN2 In DMZ Mode On Each Router

Jan 15, 2013

We have 2 offices in different countries both using the RV082 router.  Currently both offices have an internet connection on WAN1 and that is working fine. We are adding a Point to Point circuit between the two offices, and my question is on the RV082 configuration on each side.
I was going to configure WAN2 in DMZ mode on each router, then connect the point to point circuit to the WAN2 port.  On the China side, the DMZ IP will have to be a private address (, while the DMZ port on the San Diego side will be a public IP. We need internal computers to be able to go to the internet normally through WAN1, but also go through WAN2 if they are trying to reach the other network.  I will be adding routes on each RV082 for this.
Is there anything wrong with this configuration?  Do I need to change the routers from Gateway to Router mode?  Does it matter if the DMZ WAN2 port has a private IP address?

Cisco Routers :: RV082 V3 - IPsec Client VPN Not Working

Aug 29, 2011

A customer of mine has two RV082 in different locations. The "main" router is providing a gateway-to-gateway VPN tunnel, and is also used by a few road warriors for VPN access. We've had some issues with the "main" router lately, so we've decided to exchange it for a brand new device (v3). The old RV082 was a hardware revision v2 device, so I had to manually rebuild the config on the new router. The new router is working fine so far - connectivity and gateway-to-gateway VPN are fine. IPsec Client VPN, however, doesn't work at all. The config of the new router is identical to the config of the old one, IPsec Client VPN used to work fine on the old router.
The router is running the latest firmware (v4.0.4.02-tm). I've been trying to make IPsec VPN work with "QuickVPNplus ver: 1.0.6" and the "Cisco QuickVPN Client v1.4.2.1". From what I understand, both programs first connect to the routers external IP and download some sort of VPN config file. The info in that file is then used to create the actual connection. The problem is that the config file is invalid. It contains HTML code instead of config data. This is the code: "<HTML><HEAD><meta http-equiv="refresh" content="0; URL=/cgi-bin/welcome.cgi"></HEAD><BODY></BODY></HTML>". The URL is the same I see when logging in to the admin interface of the router. The Cisco client tells me in its "wget_error.txt": "rwConnStart message=All 1 wget requests did not return a valid vpnserver.conf". Both clients connect to the router fine, and the config download itself is working - only the returned data is invalid.
I've already tried lots of stuff to make the problem go away - enabling/disabling the firewall, VPN passthrough options, and other things. I'm beginning to think that there may be a bug in the firmware I'm using, or that the way Client VPN works has changed in a way that makes connecting with a client implementing the "old" method impossible. By the way, PPTP is working fine, so we're using it as a temporary workaround. My client, however, isn't happy with this workaround - he bought a relatively expensive router so he can make use of its advanced features, after all.

Cisco Routers :: RV082 VPN Dynamic DNS Not Resolving Remote IP

Nov 29, 2012

I'm setting up a site-to-site VPN with an RV082 ( and an RV042). The RV042 is behind an Actiontec modem/router that has the local public IP address. So, this address is registered with dyndns so we can find it with a name.
The name is entered into the RV082 VPN Remote Group Setup as: Dynamic IP + Domain Name (FQDN) Authentication The given name for the dynamic IP is entered into Domain Name: But, in the summary, the entry for the Remote Gateway shows only the name and for the IP address.
This same RV082 can get the same IP address from a ping of the name just fine.

Cisco Routers :: RV082 Disabling Firewall And Remote Management

Sep 17, 2012

I have a RV082.I need to disable the firewall, since firewalling is done better elsewhere. However disabling firewall Remote management on wan ip is forcefully enabled.I don't need Remote management, keeping it enabled is a security risk for my setup.I don't understand the rationale behind the choice to forcefully enable remote management if firewall is disabled. Is there a way to disable both firewall and remote management?Or at least a workaround?
I'm on firmware on a probably v2 hardware. (Cannot find this info in the web configuration). This is not the newest even for v2 hw but I cannot afford to break it trying to upgrade the firmware. Moreover no release notes for firmware releases refers to a correction of firewall/remote management behavior. Is this behavior also in newer firmware releases?

Cisco Routers :: RV082 Gateway To Gateway VPN Not Resolving Remote DynDns

Feb 14, 2013

I've got two RV082's connected. Each has a dynamic IP (changes typically every few weeks). I've configured the tunnels on both ends with a local and remote "Remote/Local Security Gateway Type" of "Dynamic IP + Domain Name(FQDN) Authentication".If I look at the VPN Summary tunnel status, it shows an IP address of "" under the "Remote Gateway" column heading. The Tunnel Test "Connect" button is N/A.I can resolve both of the entries on both sides of each VPN using the Diagnostic DNS lookup tool within each router. If I hardwire a fixed IP address for the Local and Remote Gateway everything works just fine. VPN is good.
I just can't seem to get the "" function to work. It appears the router can't resolve the dynamic IP from the domain names on each of the routers.

Cisco Routers :: RV082 VPN - Connects But No Access?

We recently moved our network over to RV082 router and its working great, well now we want to take advantage of VPN for our sales staff.
I was able to setup the VPN and using a PC at a remote office I can launch the quick connect and it connects right away, RV0 even shows the user connected. However the user cannot ping anything on our network via name or IP, connect to any resources, etc...
My understanding was when the client VPN would connect the user would get an IP from DHCP (this is on our Server 2008 DC) and they would be using that address, but when I run IPCONFIG on the client PC they just have there standard IP from remote office.

All ports were listed, port Fa0/1 has only a native vlan, the ports Fa0/2 - 8 have native and voice vlans (auxiliary) configured manually.

But after some searching , i found from "routeprint" output (shown below ) that my local internet gateway is prefered over the VPN gateway which is is the IP address assigned for VPN adaptor.
Network Destination        Netmask          Gateway       Interface  Metric               25              100
But after i manually add the below route on windows 7 laptop , it started connecting to remote desktop successfully.
route change mask metric 20
But aftersome time of idle state , it is again going back to original route state of prefering the local gateway of and thus unable to connect to Remote Desktop again.
