Cisco Routers :: How Does Quality And Longevity Of SRP500 Series Compare To RV Series

May 27, 2012

My Draytek 2710 just dies after 2 years so I was looking for something a little more reliable and noticed the spec of the SRP527W-U.I take it with only one antenna and reading a couple of past discussions, the wireless will only manage n-lite as some people call it i.e. 150Mbps, and not the full 300? Oh, and are the ports still only 100M and not Gig?I know the 547 would tick both these boxes but we are talking twice the price.  How does the quality and logevity of the SRP500 series compare to the RV series (which would need an adsl modem) or the Linksys boxes?

Cisco :: Why No Support For 3560 Compact Series In CNA

Is there reason why WS-C3560C-8PC-S and WS-C3560C-12PC-S is not supported in Cisco Network Assistent? According to the data sheets for these switches CNA should be supported. I saw another forum post stating that the Gigabit versions has been added to the supported list as of version 5.7."The Cisco Catalyst 3560-C and 2960-C Series compact switches offer both the traditional Cisco CLI for detailed configuration and Cisco Network Assistant software, a PC-based tool for quick configuration based on preset templates."

Cisco WAN :: 2921 ISR G2 Series BGP IPv6 Support Required

May 24, 2011

I was slightly dissapointed with the performance of the "pre-sales" phone number of Cisco in the Netherlands so I am asking it here instead. We decided on using 2 Cisco 2921 routers with 2.5GB ram to use for a MultiHomed connection using BGP. We already have our v4 and v6 space assigned as well as our AS number. The connections should turn up soon. What I could not find out with proper certainty on the Cisco Feature Navigator is if the IP BASE on the Cisco 2921 supports both IPv4 and IPv6 routing combined with BGP. This model uses the Universal IOS licensing which I found slightly confusing. I could not find a simple matrix with the supported commands either.

Cisco Firewall :: 5510 / Adding AIP Firewalls To Existing CSC Firewalls Setup?

Mar 3, 2011

I have a customer with active/standby on a pair of 5510's with the CSC modules. They were inquiring about the AIP/ASA, and since this would NOT work in their current setup, would getting a pair of 5510/AIP configured for transparent failover work placed in front fo the existing units? Would I need to have a switch placed between the AIP and CSC ASA's?  Or would I setup the ASA's for context based Active/Active failover to interconnect the ASA's to the existing units, but I still see a need for a switch.

Cisco Routers :: RV180 - Custom Firewalls Rules Including Between VLANs

Aug 6, 2012

Our firewall just died - it was a windows server 2003 rackmount running Microsoft ISA server. I'm shopping for a replacement, but would like to get an appliance rather than have to purchase a whole server, which just seems like overkill.

We had four network ports on the old box - one for internal, one for the cable modem, one for guest wifi, and one for the VPN (We have a dedicated Barracuda VPN appliance, so we won't be using the VPN functionality on whatever new router we purchase)

What we'd like to do is have a set of rules similar to what we had on the ISA server. We denied everything by default, and then for example: Allow outgoing HTTP, HTTPS, FTP access from guest wifi and internal network to the internetAllow access from the VPN subnet to certain ports on certain machines on the internal networkForward incoming access from the internet on port 443 to the VPN boxetc.

From reading the manual for the RV180, i could get a rough configuration going by putting internal, guest wifi and VPN on different VLANs, and disabling inter-VLAN routing for the guest wifi. However this doesn't get me the detailed control that I am used to - guest wifi and internal would be able to see the whole internet, and the vpn would be able to see anything on the internal network.

Does the RV180 can actually give you this level of control? What would be the most cost effective router from Cisco that could do this for me?

Cisco Routers :: Using RV042 In Series With Another Router

May 16, 2012

I have been able to put two Linksys routers in series no problem but this doesn't seem to work with an RV042.I have a number of customers that need to connect to a private email network via a router based VPN, but since VPN traffic is not filtered in the firewall, I would like to use an older Linksys router to manage the VPN(s) and have it pass data in through the filters of an RV042 on the DMZ port.I am getting stuck on the very frist part of this. Although I can connect to both the RV042 and LinkSys directly (by adjusting my subnet), I cannot ping the Linksys when it is connected through the DMZ port even if I disable the RV042 Internet port.

I know both the Internet and DMZ ports work on the RV042. I suspected that perhaps the RV won't pass through private IPs and tried known available pubic IPs instead of the 192.168.2.x subnet, but still no ping. What would be limiting the RV in this case? Is is possible to setup the RV to work in series with another router? Is there any other way to filter VPN traffic?
