I have 2 WRVS4400N routers that were installed at 2 remote locations to provide VPN access to these sites. The routers have been found reset to the factory defaults on three occasions, twice on one of them and once on the other. Both sites are unmanned so no-one is on site to have pressed the reset button, and both routers were set to have remote management disabled. They are running v2013 firmware.

So I attempted to log into the device to see what was wrong and I was surprised to discover that all of the settings including user name and password had reverted back to factory default.
1. What are all of the possible scenarios that would cause this to happen?
2.Would disconnecting power in the middle of a boot up sequence cause the router to revert to factory settings?
I bought a WRVS400N v2 to be used as an access point. Currently it is hooked up on my switch via a trunk port and is able to communicate with my gateway. Whenever I try to access an IP subnet other then the local IP address of the WRVS, I get a network unreachable error. To fix this for my local networks, I added the appropriate static route to cover my local LANs and that seems to work now. I tried to add route 0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0 using the web interface for internet access, but somehow it does not recognize this as a default route (quad zero!?). Does any know how I can set the default gateway in this router? Maybe, but hopefully not, I have to use the WAN port to create some kind of uplink and use one of the LAN ports to connect using the trunk port and route traffic for the clients over the WAN port .
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter a long effort I managed to get my WRVS4400N to work and provide a stable WLAN/LAN and to define all network devices in my home office. It is running the latest firmware (2.0.1).
I created a seperate SSID and a vlan for it (vlan ID is 3 and IP is 192.168.1.xxx while the default vlan IP is 192.168.0.xxx).
My plan is to use that SSID/vlan for the kids and block some bad content for them via the router there.
I want to make a ACL for that vlan but in the computer list option I can only specify ranges in the default VLAN segment (192.168.0.xxx) while in practice I need the 192.168.1.xxx segment.
I can't switch to .0.xxx as some devices are hard wired to be .1.xxx on my network.
I upgraded the firmware for my WRVS4400N v2 to version 2.0.2.1 firmware, now old and default passwords don't work. I have tried resetting it as well, and the default password does not work.

Got a Belkin wireless modem router some 18 monthes ago, and after a bit of a struggle managed to set it up. It worked fine, aside from the odd depower repower. For some reason, it just stopped working yesterday. I initially checked all my cabling etc and everything seems fine. I next tried resetting my modem/router to factory settings. When I tried to install the Belkin software I fell at the first hurdle with a message saying "The setup assistant is not able to connect to the router". After googling my issue, I followed others advice and running the cmd setting and typing in "ipconfig" only to find that my media state was disconnected.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just flashed this router with DD-WRT about a week ago inside the webui that was provided. It all went well but I wanted to go back to the original factory firmware so turned it off for 20 seconds, and held the reset button for 10 seconds to reach the emergency-room. I re-flashed it with the firmware I got from d-links website and all went well. So I tried to go to 192.168.0.1 that did not work so I tried the ip that I gave it before it was flashed and it still remained x.x.x.254. I also turned off dhcp server since my isp's modem provides that and other services. But when I looked into the logs it would keep starting up dhcp server every minute which would lead to all kinds of problems.
Edit: The ip/subnet are set to 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0. It seems to start this as soon as dhcp is disabled.

This past 3 time it has reset in 2 weeks his phone with the parental restricions are common. one other thing is i use the app on my droid to check settings on the router .
so th ecommon points here are one one using wifi threw router and has restrictions on it and outer is me with the linksys app to log into my rrouter and make a change like yuring on parental controls on..
but what happens is the router will reboot and renames itself to cisc05179 and cleared all protection and sets router to unsecured.
i have a brand new (LH118501) 8ch and i cannot access the main menu because it keeps asking for the unit id and user and password.I would like to know if there is a way to reset the unit to factory default so i can access the main menu. If not is there a way to bypass this so i can get into the main menu?

It requires an internet connection to function. When the router brain-farts, we don't have phone service... and we don't know it until we try to call out, or try to use the internet. We went to bed last night with the router working and woke up to it not working. It's just my wife and I here. I haven't seen the dog showing any interest in jacking with our computer gear.
When I access the setup utility and go to Manual Wireless Network Setup, the Wireless Network Name has defaulted to dlink, and Security Mode is None. I have to re-enter my personalized setup info, (because that is what our computers are looking for), then all works fine again.I'm a savy XP user, my wife has Vista (yuk) (she doesn't know any better; her daughter installed it).We are Comcast customers. We own a Linksys CM-100 modem. (When I connect direct by hardwire, (i.e. bypass the Dir-825 router), from the modem to any computer, or the Verizon Network Extender, they function just fine. Since the verizon modem, which is also router has been set into bridge mode and the d-link came into play its been extremely slow, and dropping connection. The router is in a separate IP class, and has no conflict with the modem. My question is, if I upgrade this firmware from 1.0 to 1.02 will it default to factory settings? I know it says only some will. I do have the backup config file, but i would be doing this remotely, and would not be able to get to this router if it goes down. Has anyone gone from 1.0 to 1.2 and saw a difference and speed, and are you able to do this without losing settings.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a customer that is seeing output drops on a 2960S with mls qos not enabled. It appears that they are getting bursts traffic on the switch that is filling up the buffers, hence causing the drops. I have a couple of questions:
1. What are the default queue/buffer settings when mls qos is NOT enabled on the switch.
2. Is there any good documentation out there regarding the buffer sizes of the different switch models
The customer is looking for an answer as to whether or not replacing the 2960S with a higher model would eliminate the output drops WITHOUT having to mess with QOS/buffer/drop threshold settings on the switch, and Cisco doesn't seem to make the buffer sizes readily available for the the smaller Catalyst switches.
So just recently my Internet has been running a lot slower than normal at different times of the day (completely random, could be fine for hours then just turns slow). I know it's not the Internet itself, since it's only happening on my computer, and none others in the house - and I'm far from capped. I've run AVG, Spybot & Malwarebytes' scans and have found no infections of any kind. I've run TCP Optimizer and used the "reset to windows default settings" feature, which also hasn't worked one bit. I've tried different Ethernet cables and different plugs in the modem and no improvement.

All settings are correct.This doesn't happen unless around 20-30 users are actively using their connections, both wired and wireless.

I've had my WRT54GL for a couple of months now, and it keeps wiping my saved settings and reverting back to the default. It works fine with all devices for a week or so after the initial set-up, then will only work on the system that is wired.

BUT no matter how I've fiddled with the wireless settings I cannot get any of the laptops or mobile phones to connect wireless to the network.The Windows software on the laptops 'finds' the router OK but for some reason the router seems unwilling to supply an IP address.I've checked ALL of the settings that I can think of, and all are correct ... well, all are exactly the same as my old router which worked perfectly.
