Cisco Switching/Routing :: Stack C2960S High CPU Version 12.2(58)SE2
Jan 14, 2013
I have a customer with a stack of two switches C2960S-24TS-L that are running 12.2(58)SE2 universal K9, we see that the CPU load increase over time, to 95% and stays there reload solves the problem.the process that akes a lot of CPU is also the SNMP ENGINE, I see that it is running 30 minutes on 95% and then 10 minutes on 35%, this is the only stack were we see this problem. Is there also a SNMP bug in this version ?
We have a 2960 stack of 4 WS-C2960S-24PS-L switches.Sometimes, at random, the stack crashes and reboots. I have downloaded the crashinfo file and can see the following error.
I'm trying to configure a stack between two WS-C2960S-48FPS-L but does not working. The switch port is always Down.I tried to change de module and cables.I tried to make a loop in one of two switches and the ports always down.
IOS: 12.2(55)SE5 #show switch stack-ports Switch # Port 1 Port 2 -------- ------ ------ 1 Down Down
We have two switches WS-C2960S-24TS-L running in stack with running IOS c2960s-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE3.We have connected two checkpoint devices on Gi1/0/24 and Gi2/0/24 with a simple configuration:
interface range GigabitEthernet1/0/24, gi2/0/24 switchport access vlan x switchport mode access spanning-tree portfast
On the devices log we get the following message:
%SW_MATM-4-MACFLAP_NOTIF: Host 0000.0000.fe21 in vlan x is flapping between port Gi2/0/24 and port Gi1/0/24
The mac-address 0000.0000.fe21 is not found on any checkpoint interface. "Show mac-address int gi1/0/24 or gi2/0/24" does not show the correct mac-address of the checkpoint interface connected to the port, but instead shows 0000.0000.fe21.Is there a bug in the IOS, something wrong with the switch config or does it have something to do with the checkpoint config?
I have a Cisco WS-C2960S-48TD-L with 12.2(55)SE2.This is a standalone switch, not in stack, and with no order it reboots itself looking for a new master election. On logging i have nothing, but connected with console cable i see the following after 2 minutes of not showing anything:
Waiting for Stack Master Election... ... The switch reboots and: ... *Mar 1 00:00:12.289: Read env variable - LICENSE_BOOT_LEVEL =
[URL]
After searching online i have no seeing nothing about disable the feature of the stack so i configure the priority for the "switch 1" to 15 and configure it the switches 2, 3 and 4 to no provision, although this switches don´t exist:
SW_ACCESS(config)#switch 1 priority 15 Changing the Switch Priority of Switch Number 1 to 15 Do you want to continue?[confirm] New Priority has been set successfully

With this new configuration the switch has rebooted again. Why on a standalone switch the stack is rebooting my system? Is it any feature to disable the stack?
Seeing very high CPU on one of our 3750X stacks. Usally its around 30% but recently its 70, 80, 90 or maxed at 100% during the main day.IOS version c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.SE1.bin.Has a ten gig uplink connected to a nexus 7k and another ten gig connected to another 7k. Running Layer 3 and EIGRP on the 3750X.Is this normal for the CPU?
#sh processes cpu history 5555555554444455555555555555588888666669999888885555577777 8888000001111111111222227777755555666662222222229999977777 100 90 ***** **** 80 ***** ********* *****
We recently configured a stack of four 48 port 3750-x switches . We are noticing high CPU usage. "Hulc LED process" seems pretty high. This has coincided with VMware servers getting slow and non-responsive at times, perhaps a coincidence, not sure. Below I provided some outputs about how to diagnose it.
We added Site02 for redundancy and DR. Also added new SAN and ESX hosts. The CPU on device Site01Server01 is not very happy when files are being transferred between the sites. Since the setup is the same at both sites, why is the problem only at site01?
Site02 is newer and we have two 3750X-24 with IOS 12.2(55)SE3 on ipservices, for site02server01; no problem. Site01server01 is a stack of two 3750G-24PS with IOS 12.2(58)SE on ipservices.
Now I'm have IOS ver. 12.2(55)SE but from time to time I'm experiencing strange system freezing. It means that all systems connected to the stack are working very, very slow. It hapens ones, sometimes twice a month and takes 5 minutes. I didn't find anything strange in logs (neither on switch nor router). I would like to install other IOS version. Could you recomend me the most stable version for this stack (built from these different models) ?And the secound question: - Is it possible to copy SE1 manualy to every switch and reload one by one manualy. Will they join the stack and work fine after reload or maybe there will be a IOS mismatch ?
I'm able to upgrade the master of a 3750 stack, but the member fails to upgrade. [code] I couldn't do rmdir flash:update unless I reload chassis... but even after reloading still cannot make the 2nd member to load with the newer IOS.
i am seeing very high utilization on a random basis on the stack. and the logs indicate me that there is a pattern where there is a stack power cable shows inserted (which was never unplugged) followed by sudden spike in the utilization.

We are having 3750 Stack switch as our edge switch. Here we are having some issues as low memory & itermediate High CPU utilization. For memory when we checked its shwoing maximum memory is allocated to DHCPD receive & ARP Input as follows
Processor Pool Total: 70829380 Used: 56809532 Free: 14019848 I/O Pool Total: 12582912 Used: 8554920 Free: 4027992 Driver te Pool Total: 1048576 Used: 40 Free: 1048536
[code].....
i want to understand why this 2 proceses (DHCPD & ARP input) taking more memory?High CPU: We also facing intermediate high CPU utilization (above 95%). When CPU is high there were 2 processes consuming more CPU are 'Spanning Tree' (about 20%) & ARP Input (about 66%). we also checked the ARP entries, there were 1500 ARP entries & 2 incomplete ARP (out of 6000 ARP supported)
I have a new cisco 3750 stack comprised of 8 members (6 x 3750G-48PS and 2 x 3750V2-48PS) running 'c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.122-58.SE2.bin'. I am seeing high memory utilisation, it seems to sit fairly stable and I do not see an increase but this has only been running a few days. No errors or performance issues. Should this be a cause for concern?
We have a 3750 stack with a mix of 3750G and 3750X switches. The current active template on the switch is desktop default and we are running EIGRP on the switch with large routing table so we get the TCAM error that a specific prefix cannot be programmed in TCAM memory so it will be software forwarded.%PLATFORM_UCAST-4-PREFIX: One or more, more specific prefixes could not be programmed into TCAM and are being covered by a less specific prefix, and the packets may be software forwarded
This error is quite frequent on a daily basis. My question is that will this error create a high CPU situation and affect traffic processing on the stack causing ESX Hosts to become unresponsive?
I have a 2 Cisco 3750X stacked working as CORE switches but not in production yet showing a high CPU utilization and I would like to see with you whether you think this is normal or a IOS upgrade/downgrade should be performed.
I have very low traffic coming through as this is not yet in production:
I have a situation. I am running two-switch 3750-stack and it crashed this morning. IOS version the switches is: "flash:c3750-ipservicesk9-mz.150-1.SE.bin"

I have changed the universal IOS on the 3750X to IP base..but they still wont come up as a stack. On the 3750X I don't see any log entry, on 3750G (major version mismatch).
WS-C3750G-24TS-S1U switch stack with high CPU utilization. 3 switches are stacked and using PBR on that. I am attaching the show cpu process as an attachment. The current template is "desktop routing" template. The selected template optimizes the resources in the switch to support this level of features for 8 routed interfaces and 1024 VLANs. Is there a stacking cable that is "bent"?Im using this cable:"CAB-STACK-50CM", "Cisco StackWise 50CM Stacking Cable".But it takes up to much room in the back of the switch, is there such a thing as "bent" stacking cable.
I have 3 switches in my 3750 X stack. I am getting the following error in the logs: %PLATFORM_STACKPOWER-4-PRIO_CONFLICT: Switch 1's power stack has conflicting power priorities. Not sure what I should do next. Below is my Stack-power configuration:
Power stack name: Powerstack-1 Stack mode: Power sharing Stack topology: Ring Switch 1: Power budget: 735 Low port priority value: 20 High port priority value: 10 Switch priority value: 2 Port 1 status: Connected Port 2 status: Connected Neighbor on port 1: c464.1308.7900 Neighbor on port 2: e8b7.4827.e680 Switch 3: Power budget: 729 Low port priority value: 22 High port priority value: 13 Switch priority value: 4 Port 1 status: Connected Port 2 status: Connected Neighbor on port 1: 2894.0fd9.9f00 Neighbor on port 2: 2894.0fd8.e200 Switch 2: Power budget: 690 Low port priority value: 21 High port priority value: 12 Switch priority value: 3 Port 1 status: Connected Port 2 status: Connected Neighbor on port 1: 2894.0fd8.e200 Neighbor on port 2: c464.1308.7900
Each switch has its own 715W power supply in it and all check out OK.
A site that i am responsible for has the following equipment installed:
2 x 3750G Switches configured as a stack using Stackwise - Collapsed Core/Distribution Layer 5 x 2960G Switches as Access Layer switches
WAN connections into the Core/Distribution Layer are all Gigabit Ethernet over Fibre. This is a dedicated CCTV Network with 50 Cameras all streaming video into the Core (decoders connected to access switches)Each 2960G has 2 links to the Core/Distribution 3750G Switches, 1 to each switch - Gigabit.I'm running rapid-pvst on all switches, so spanning tree is blocking one of the ports and effectively halving the 2 gig bandwidth. Next year our customer is going to add in a further 50 - 60 cameras. After monitoring the current loading on the ports in use, we have suggested to the customer that the 2 connections to each should be Ether-channeled together. [code]
First interface takes commands no problem, keep getting the message that etherchannel cannot be configured across different switches in a stack when i try to put the second interface commands on.
I just upgraded several of my C2960S-48FPD-L from 12.2(55)SE to 12.2(58)SE and now almost every time I try to SSH to it the switch reboots and gives me these trace backs ...

I am looking for a reasonable switch but it has do do inter-VLAN Routing. I know I could go with a 3560/3750 with IP Services but I am also thinking the 2960S with IP Base IOS might do?
I have looked up the IP Base IOS and it does list IP Routing but how to actually configure inter-VLAN Routing on a 2960S with IP Base?
We have several of these WS-C2960S-24PS-L running 12.2(55)SE5 C2960S-universalK9-M and need to upgrade to a better.IOS since we have a sitution where CPU would get to 100% but we have only a few ports connected. Also we have several of WS-C3750-48P running 12.2(55) SE6 C3750-IPBASEK9-M.
Does GLC-GE-100FX is supported on the WS-C2960S-24TD-L. I don't see this switch listed under the compatibility matrix.URL
But the datasheet for the 2960S says this:
"The Cisco Catalyst 2960-S with SFP+ does not support the GLC-FE-100BX, GLC-FE-100FX, or GLC-FE-100LX." But it provides no reference for the GLC-GE-100FX The easy answer is, no the 2960S-24TD doesn't support it, any clarification if possible.
I have a very simple setup containing 3 C2960S switches:switch 1: central switch, acting as router between VLAN 1 en VLAN 2switch 2+3: edge switches, connected via 1 link to central switch, both on VLAN 2,Clients connect to switch 2 and 3 using dhcp, switch 1 uses dhcp relay to forward requests from VLAN 2 to the dhcp server on VLAN 1. So far so good. Now I want switch 1 to add option 82 to the dhcp requests so the dhcp server can see whether the request came through switch 2 or switch 3. I tried turning on dhcp option 82 support on switch 1 by doing.
