I have a need to capture some traffic but my core 6513's are already using the limit of 2 span sessions. I can't edit any of the sessions either because I want to source traffic from vlans and you can only do one or the other. Is using a VACL with 'switchport capture' on the destination interface an option ? E.g. I want to source traffic from vlan 10,20,30,40 and send the all to interface Gi10/10 ? Is there any caveats ? I dont need to be too granular with the ACL's but just capture all traffic in those vlans.
I read quite a few documents on configuring SPAN on a cisco switch but none of them mention any limitations or any kind of CPU load it can have on a switch. I need to configure this on one of our switches and would like to know if there are any implications related to SPAN.
Can you configure a Cisco 1941 to use an 8 port EHWic module and the 2 onboard GE ports in a single LAN?
I've discovered you can't have the on GE ports associated with a VLan, and I'm when I've previously researched for a solution, bridging was mentioned but I cannot seem to get it to work (or completely understand it)The reason I would like to use all 10 ports on for the LAN is becuase I have 10 devices I need to connect to the 1941?
I currently have IOS image cat4500e-entservices-mz.122-53.SG5.bin. According to my research it appears SPAN is supported on this OS. However, after looking at procedure notes using websites like here:
[url]... I cannot find and obviously not figure out how to use the SPAN command. My main objective is to simply setup a port mirror on one of my TenGigabitEthnet interfaces and from what I read SPAN is the best way to setup a tap interface on a cisco switch.
Been dealing with a strange problem for several days now. It started out with a problem that I thought was VTP related but ended up being something else. I setup a span port on a 3750 that I am connected to that was mirroring the trunk connection coming into the switch.
Never saw an VTP traffic come across the connection but doing a sh vtp status indicated the traffic was arriving and getting processed. When I found some debug commands (debug sw-lan vtp), I was also able to see the packets go between switches. Seeing this issue concerns me that there is other traffic that isnt showing up during a span session.
I know that doing a span on a switch, especially using a trunk port as a source, isnt a good idea. Since I didnt have a TAP at time, this was my only choice. I have since borrowed a NetOptics TP-CU3 tap from a good friend and was able to confirm the VTP traffic was going across the trunk connection between switches.
I'm trying to configure a mirror port on a 3750. This configuration needs to replicate data from local ports, but I need that also act as a regular access port.
With the initial configuration, SPAN port, there is no problem, all the data of the configurated ports is replicating in the configurated port. On the port configurated as mirror there is a PC connected for audio recording. When the port is not operating as SPAN there is communications without problem over the LAN. But when I configure the port as SPAN, communication is interrupted.
Here is the actual configuration:
SWITCH1-PISO7#sh monitor session 1 Session 1 --------- Type : Local Session
i have configured SPAN over cisco 2960 to monitor source port traffic but after configuration i dont able to get response from destination port as my NMS is attached on destination port so i lost its web interface.
Configuration is as under.
monitor session 1 source interface gigabitEthernet0/5 (Source Port on Vlan 100) monitor session 1 destination interface gigabitEthernet0/1 (Destination Port on Vlan 200)
I'm setting up a montitor session on a NEXUS 7K as below.we are receiving in 150M of data and 0 data going out port 9/25.but port 4/24 shows 300M to the span port?
i am running c3640-is-mz.124-21.bin on a cisco router 3640. i am trying to create a monitor session in the CLI and everytime i type the command Router(config)#monitor session 1 interface ethernet2/1 % Invalid input detected at '^' marker. Router(config)#monitor session 1 interface ethernet2/1 ^% Invalid input detected at '^' marker. i get the error invalid input ?
In s SPAN session , normally the destination prt is used for monitoring purpose only. But could destination port be used to access the equipement or PC connected to that port , for a 2960 LAN BASE image switch .
If I monitor a trunkport on the rootbridge in both directions I get Duplicate Multicast Packets on the perticular VLAN. The first guess is, that this is worked as designed and not a IOS Bug (Platform CAT6500 SUP720 IOS 12.2(33)SXI9 ) Until know I only found an old Cisco press link from 2002 with this subject.
Need your expert input in sorting out the below problem.I have a cisco 6513 switch which is going into SP mode after a reboot whci i have done during BCP activity in my organization.Below are the log for your reference.
i have a Cisco 6513 it is used one, i have tryed to boot it but it did not work, it alwayes go to rommon mode and i am not able to know what is the issue,
when it boot i get the below outpot from the switch.
System Bootstrap, Version 8.1(3) Copyright (c) 1994-2004 by cisco Systems, Inc. Testing lower main memory - data equals address
I am working on Multicast scenario, There is one 6513E switch one 2960 switch. Two VRF's are configured in core switch (6513) IPTV-SRV and Villa-VRF IPTV-SRV vrf has IPTV server and Villa-VRF has IPTV i.e. client.
V LAN 30 is mapped to IPTV-SRV vrf with subnet address 192.168.30.0/24 V LAN 12 is mapped to Villa-VRF with sub net address 192.168.12.0/24
I did the following configuration for VRF but its not working . i am not an expert in multicast design but seems i did most of the configs.
We have 2 6513's that are linked via 2 10 gig interfaces, using an LACP channel.I received an alert this aft stating that the far 6513 was unreachable and the port channel int PO3 had gone down, the 2 10 gig interfaces had also gone down on either side. 5 mins later PO3 had resestablished itself and has been fine since. [code]
I have been getting the logs in my cisco 6513 switch [code] On further investigating in the module 9 which has a DFC card also , we found the source of this error whether it is a source of any upcoming potential impact or can be simply ignored
Ask this question, if someone came across a 6513, one of the RJ45 ports are constantly falling. The question is how to disable logging on a specific portno logging event link-status does not work.
I am having issues with 'telnet' on port 2821 to a range of servers connecting through vlan interface from my core switch 6513 running s72033_rp-DVIPSERVICESK9_WAN-VM) version 12.2(33)SXH7, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3). The telnet on port 1556 and 13724 is ok.

I have a supervisor blade, (VS-S720-10G-3C), in a 6513 that is faulty and needs replaced. Do I need to replace the IOS on the new supervisor blade to make sure it is the same as the IOS image that is on the Active supervisor module, or will it synchronize automatically?
In the synchronization process, the active supervisor engine checks the standby supervisor engine run-time image to make sure that it matches its own run-time image. The active supervisor engine checks three conditions:
# •If it needs to copy its boot image to the standby supervisor engine # •If the standby supervisor engine bootstring needs to be changed # •If the standby supervisor engine needs to be reset
I was reading the above documentation that mentioned the active supervisor should copy the image if it detects a newly installed standby supervisor blade with a different image, is this correct or was it referring to synchronizing the configuration file?
I have created 5 new 2 Gig port channels on a 6513 WS-X6516A-GBIC blade connecting to 5 4510R+E switches. 3 of the 5 Port-channels show up/up. 2 show down/down. However, for the 2 showing down, a duplicate Po interface was created with an "A" appended to the name that shows up/up. E.g:
Port-channel26 unassigned YES unset down down Port-channel26A unassigned YES unset up up
Each of the 4510s has a second 2Gig PO to another 6513 with an identical config and all of those come up fine.
we have a chassis 6513-E and a module WS-X6748-GE-TX, I'd like to know if could I put this module in any slot, since the documentation from Cisco says that any slot from a chassis 6500-E Series can support this module. And then in the documentation of WS-X6748-GE-TX says that this module is not compatible in the slots 1-8 of the 6513 chassis, only from 9th to 13th slots, in those slots from the 6513-E we already have 4x WS-X6748-GE-TX, and we'd like to know if could we put the module in the rest of the slots. The 6513, and 6513-E is kind of confusing.
I am having some problems creating a SPAN port on my Cisco 871 (running IOS 12.4-11T). My 871 is connected to a DSL modem, and uses "IP Negotiated" to get its dynamic ip address.I want to monitor the WAN port (FastEthernet4) using SPAN, but when I type "monitor session 1 source interface FastEthernet4" into the cli, it is rejected. I can successfully use any of the other FastEthernet ports, as well as Vlan1 as a source for the SPAN session. I have tried to use Dialer0 instead of FastEthernet4, but it still doesnt work.
I currently have a Cisco 891 running with a FTP running on port 21. I currently have the NAT from external IP to and internal IP 192.168.12.6 for port 21. And the firewall allowing that traffic through and client software is working fine. However I need this FTP to be running on port 990 and anytime I change the NAT and the firewall, the external FTP clients connect but then drop when recieving the directory listing.
getting radius to work on a 2950G switch with an older IOS of 12.1(22)EA1. I have radius setup on a windows 2k8 box and all of my other switches 2960's and above have no issues. I am unable to input the nas-identifier of 32 into the config using - radius-server 32 attribute 32 include-in-access-req format %h as well as the aaa session-id common commands. Doing a debug radius says that the radius server is not defined.
I have a 3560 8 port switch. Int gi0/9 is trunked to another switch downstream. When I try to configure int gi0/10 to trunk to a switch upstream the interface on the switch goes down and I have to either reboot the switch or plug directly into the switch and telnet into it to turn off trunking on the interface. When I configure trunking on the interface on the upstream switch that connects to this interface the same happens on that switch. The upstream switch is a 3750 with 12 sfp ports. Several interfaces are trunking to other switches from this switch. Spanning tree is not configured on the 3750 at all , and is not configured on either gi0/10 or gi0/9 on the 3560. I was consoled into the 3560 during a reboot after the interface went down, a message came up that said something like "Spanning Tree returning gigabit ethernet 10 to constant state" Why would I get this message if spanning tree is not enabled on the gig ports on either end of the trunk? There is no loop to require spanning tree to shut down an interface. I have several other 3560's configured as I would like to configure this switch and they are trunking without issue.
Is it posible to config port forwarding on cisco 2950 or other switchs.if such a option is there ple let me know ho to config port forwarding on cisco 2950 switch..
