Cisco Switching/Routing :: Replacing A Dual Supervisor Module In A 6513 Switch?
Jun 18, 2012
I have a supervisor blade, (VS-S720-10G-3C), in a 6513 that is faulty and needs replaced. Do I need to replace the IOS on the new supervisor blade to make sure it is the same as the IOS image that is on the Active supervisor module, or will it synchronize automatically?
In the synchronization process, the active supervisor engine checks the standby supervisor engine run-time image to make sure that it matches its own run-time image. The active supervisor engine checks three conditions:
#
•If it needs to copy its boot image to the standby supervisor engine
#
•If the standby supervisor engine bootstring needs to be changed
#
•If the standby supervisor engine needs to be reset
I was reading the above documentation that mentioned the active supervisor should copy the image if it detects a newly installed standby supervisor blade with a different image, is this correct or was it referring to synchronizing the configuration file?
After a power problem at our data centre we find Module 11 of our Cisco 6513 Core Switch in PWR Down state.Show Module 11 returns: Status: PWRDownShow Power Status Module 11 returns: OperStatus Off (Module Reset due to an exception or user request). The command: Power enable Module 11 was issued and returned the following: %PM_SCP-SP-1-LCP_FW_ERR: System resetting module 11 to recover from error: Linecard received system exception. Errcode = 2509000001.%OIR-SP-3-PWRCYCLE: Card in module 11 is being powercycled Öff (Module reset due to exception or user request%C6KPWR-SP-4-DISABLED: Power to module in slot 11 set off (Module Reset due to exception or user request),We have restarted the switch twice. The module is currently not passing traffic causing downtime to services.
switch catalyst 4500 with ios cat4500e-universal.SPA.03.02.00.XO.150-2.XO.bin. I need to configure modules 3 and 4 of supervision, the problem is that I need the 4-port module 3 are active but only the first turn on both the module 3 and the first port on the module 4. [code]
I am replacing a faulty sup720 on a 6513. It s the backup/hot not the active sup. It has the same IOS on it. Is it correct that all I need to do is remove the faulty and replace it with the new sup and do a wr mem? Fromwat I have read their should be no down time all connectivity should remain stable?
There is a Cisco Catalyst 6513 in my office. Recently we decided to setup redundant Supervisor Engine 720-3B. When we did it, its became STANDBY COLD, and then it reloads. IOS is equal on both supervisors. It must be STANDBY HOT (SSO) redundancy. There is a configuration and show ver and show module outputs, and log of my actions.
In my 6513 switch chassis we have two Supervisor Engines 720 one is marked Active other as Hot. what is the diffrence in their mode as by name I suppose that Active one is currently in use and Hot one is in standby mode. They are showing in this manner.
The SuperVisor engine in slot 1 of a Catalyst 6513 needed to be replaced because a hardware defect. The SuperVisor engine in slot 2 is active and running CatOS 8.5. The new SuperVisor engine for slot 1 came with CatOS 6.3 and was not syncronized auromatically after insertion. When the customer enter the command "Show boot" he get the output:
AG-A6513-51> (enable) sh boot BOOT variable = bootflash:cat6000-sup2k8.8-5-5.bin,1;bootflash:cat6000-sup2k8.7-6-2.bin,1;
i have a cisco Netowtk Analysis module installed on a 6513 core switch which is NAM-1, the version on the NAM is 5.1 and we need to upgrade to the latest version which is 5.1(2)
I have a Cisco 6513 switches connected to HP VC Flex 10 Module. The (2) 10Gb ports on a Cisco Switch connected to VC Flex-10 in LACP mode.
I need to move those (2) 10Gb ports on Cisco Switch 10Gb Module to a different 10Gb module on a same Switch without bringing the ports down since it is a live environment.
What I would do is to configure a same port channel ID on a new 10Gb module and then move port one by one. unplug one port and connect to the new port on a module. While I will be unplugging the first port the other active port will keep sending traffic and as soon as I plug in on another port, both ports will be active.
My company has acquired a Catalyst 6513 with a FWSM module installed on it. I have been reading lot of documentation on [URL], but still have some problems configuring the FWSM:
The 6513 has 10 SVIs configured, each of them with an IP address. These 10 SVIs are binded to 10 VLANs which I need to secure. These SVIs are used for routing all the Inter-VLAN traffic inside the switch. The documentation says it is recommended to use just one SVIs for connecting the switch to the FWSM, although you can use more than one using the command "firewall multiple-vlan-interfaces". I don't want to use this command because it seems a pretty more difficult configuration, since you have to use policy routing after using this command (or that is, at least, what documentation says).
When I try to "send" to the FWSM more than one VLAN that are configured as SVIs on the switch I get this error message:
"No more than one svi is allowed, command rejected."
If I delete the IP address of those SVIs, then I can to "send" those SVIs to the switch with no problem at all. But I need the SVIs to have IP address configured, since they are needed for routing Inter-V LAN traffic.
So, the question is: how can I route all the inter-VLAN traffic using just one SVI on the switch? Should I use the FWSM for inter-VLAN traffic routing?
How do I enable ports 3 and 4 on this supervisor module? I can only get ports 1 and 2 to work by default. I have a standby Supervisor in SSO mode. I'm running IOS 15.0.2SG
I have a Cisco catalyst 6513 with sup720-3bxl and WS-X6724-SFP modules , the switch was working fine until yesterday ,but after a maintenance the modue WS-X6724-SFP failed to bring online , the error code is (Module Failed SCP dnld) does it mean the module has hardware problem or i need to replace it ?

1. We now have SupA & SupB in the chassis, due to some mistake we have same IOS version but different feature set on them, although we configured redundancy mode sso, in the "show redundancy" we see Operating Redundancy Mode = rpr due to Software mismat, we now need to fix them as same feature set image, if I use "copy sup-bootdisk0:/xxxx slavesup-bootdisk0:/xxx", then write memory, does this cause any service/network interuption?
Available system uptime = 1 year, 1 week, 4 days, 9 hours, 21 minutes Switchovers system experienced = 2 Standby failures = 0 Last switchover reason = active unit removed
[code]....
2. We did a failover test with this status, found that if we triggered supervisor failover, all modules will reload thus the services if interupped. How about after we make the Operating Redundancy Mode as sso, will this behaviour shows again? Or a stateful failover will happens, then modules no need reload?
3. We are using OSPF as our L3 routing protocol, after reference to the configuration, nsf should be enabled, we want to ask in the OSPF-domain nsf should be configured in all OSPF-enabled router or only 6500 which have dual-sup?
4. We also found that the interfaces(3 * Gig & 2 * TenG) in Standby supervisor cannot be use even enabled & configured, is it because we are running rpr mode now or will be the same even change to sso? Before customer have some older supervisor in 6500 non-e chassis, and they can use the standby supervisor interfaces as traffic forwarding, they use rpr-plus mode before, how about in sso mode?
I have 2 x 6513 each with dual supervisor 720, and need to recover the enable password, is there a better method than removing one supervisor, disabling redundancy and performing password recovery on the single active supervisor module , before re-inserting the second supervisor and re-enabling SSO/RPR on the still active module.
We have sup engine 6L(WS-X45-SUP6L-E) on two 4506 switch. both switches connected in LAN (HSRP primary and Secondary).
We are going to replace it with Sup7LE. What is the best procedure to get this done with minimal outage?Any other important thing to be noted ? Note : We have Lincence for SUP 7LE
I have the task of replicating the router config on a 3825 router on a 3750 switch. Reason is we are taking out the router and replacing it with the switch to make use of the router for other functions.
Below is main part of the router config:
! ip source-route ip cef ! ! multilink bundle-name authenticated ! license udi pid CISCO3825 sn FCZxxxxxxx ! vlan internal allocation policy ascending
[code].....
The 3750 switch I have runs C3750E-UNIVERSALK9-M, Version 12.2(55)SE3 on a LAN BASE license.
The first thing I have done is to order for a license upgrade to IP BASE which would give the support for OSPF routing.I do not see much of an issue with the Interface configs, however, I am not too sure about replicating the routing config on the switch.
My question is can I run the commands as shown for the OSPF routing on the switch? If not, can I get suggestions on how best to set this up on the switch?
I'm due to replace a stack of 2 x 3750 switches very soon with 2 x 3750Gs. These 2 current switches are the VTP server for a small domain. I have put the config on the new switches switches and I made it a server and used the same VTP domain and password etc and got the VLAN info ported over. Now I did this a while back and noticed the switches are in transparent mode with a revision number of 0, I need to set this back to server and swap the switches out but the revision will be lower than the client switches (around rev 200), what do I need to do?
Need your expert input in sorting out the below problem.I have a cisco 6513 switch which is going into SP mode after a reboot whci i have done during BCP activity in my organization.Below are the log for your reference.
i have a Cisco 6513 it is used one, i have tryed to boot it but it did not work, it alwayes go to rommon mode and i am not able to know what is the issue,
when it boot i get the below outpot from the switch.
System Bootstrap, Version 8.1(3) Copyright (c) 1994-2004 by cisco Systems, Inc. Testing lower main memory - data equals address
I am working on Multicast scenario, There is one 6513E switch one 2960 switch. Two VRF's are configured in core switch (6513) IPTV-SRV and Villa-VRF IPTV-SRV vrf has IPTV server and Villa-VRF has IPTV i.e. client.
V LAN 30 is mapped to IPTV-SRV vrf with subnet address 192.168.30.0/24 V LAN 12 is mapped to Villa-VRF with sub net address 192.168.12.0/24
I did the following configuration for VRF but its not working . i am not an expert in multicast design but seems i did most of the configs.
I buy a Cisco 4003 Switch with Supervisor Engine I but it only run CatOs and i whant it to run Cisco IOS so whitch Supervisor Engine can the Cisco 4003 Switch run? i have look at the Supervisor Engine III it can run Cisco IOS and Layer 3 but can i use that in my Cisco 4003 switch?
I have been getting the logs in my cisco 6513 switch [code] On further investigating in the module 9 which has a DFC card also , we found the source of this error whether it is a source of any upcoming potential impact or can be simply ignored
I was upgrading IOS on 4507 R with dual supervisor.I download the IOS on Active supervisior and did reboot. After reboot i login to switch then i got switch standby prompt.I found that after reboot active supervisior became standby supervisior.
Now new IOS is on standby supervisior.Need to confirm below..So this means that IOS does not syn within the supervisiors as compared to config right ?
-Which command i can use that will copy IOS from standby supe to Active supe?? -Which command i can use that will show both active and standby supe with new IOS? -Is there any command that i can use to switchover from active to standby supe??
we have a chassis 6513-E and a module WS-X6748-GE-TX, I'd like to know if could I put this module in any slot, since the documentation from Cisco says that any slot from a chassis 6500-E Series can support this module. And then in the documentation of WS-X6748-GE-TX says that this module is not compatible in the slots 1-8 of the 6513 chassis, only from 9th to 13th slots, in those slots from the 6513-E we already have 4x WS-X6748-GE-TX, and we'd like to know if could we put the module in the rest of the slots. The 6513, and 6513-E is kind of confusing.
Suffered a big outage on the network, the fix was to reload the module 3 on the 6509 switch, we had these errors on the log %CONST_DIAG-SW1_SP-3-HM_PORT_TEST_FAIL: Switch 1 Module 3 TestUnusedPortLoopback Port(s)[24,46] failed. System operation continues.in the end, we reloaded the card and it was all ok. is there anything I can do to check the card / or any deeper logs? would that error cause the card to crash?
I'm trying to set up a 2951 with a 24 port switch module. I want the ports to act similiarly to the ports on an 881 router - where I assign the VLANs on the router and I set the VLANs to the switchport interfaces.I would like to be able to create the VLANs on the router portion of the 2951 and then, enter the switch module and configure the Ports to the VLANs but, how do I logically connect router to the switch? Is it an internal logical interface - meaning how are the VLANs getting from the router to the switch?
We have supplied Cisco Swtch 2960 with gig SFP modules. It is working fine. However, when I do a show inventory it show proper part no. for the switch chassis but for the GLC T module it shows as unspecified in the PID column.
