Cisco WAN :: 7200 Series Input / Output Controllers?
Mar 22, 2012
We have 7206 VXR running NPE-G1, we are looking for the GigE cards for 7200 which supports upto line rate and came across Cisco 7200 Series Input/Output Controllers The datasheet for the same doesnt say anything about line rates.

I have this topology in part of my networ:k
Cisco7200---Cisco6500---Cisco3560---LAN1
|
Cisco3560
|
LAN2
All devices are interconected via optical 1Gb/s links. There is no QoS implemented on any device and all VLANs are allowed on all interfaces.
Also all links are trunks (with many VLANs)
In LAN1 there was a layer 2 broadcast-storm and 4000packets/s was comming to rest of the network (in one particular VLAN).
1) 7200 with G1 should be able to handle traffic up to 500Mb/s, but a lot of users experienced drops on traffic via 7200.
(CPU load was around 10%).
2) Why do I have input drops on 7200 on link toward 6500 if CPU was normal. Broadcast comming to this interfaces were cca 4kpps. But since it's destination is not on router these packets should be rejected on interface controller. Is that right? (7200 doesn't even has dot1q subinterface in that VLAN but since 6500 allow all VLANs on its trunk these packets reach 7200)
3) Why do I have output drops on Cisco 6500 (it is here as layer 2 device only)? It is max 160Mb/s in output direction. It has WS6724 card with DFC (there is no oversubscription).. Shouln't 6500 send traffic as fast as interface allows (up to 1Gb/s). Am I righ't?
4) After all how coul'd 6500 now if 7200 can't handle these traffic?Output drops should be only seen if QoS is enabled (i.e. shaping), or if there is oversubscription on the linecard?

I recently configured a network with a 4500 Sup7E and a 3560G with jumbo frame support. I am trying to confirm operation. On the 4500 this is straight forward using "sho int g0/nn count detail". [code] The 3560 doesn't support that command. The closest I can come to finding the number of jumbo packets is "show controllers ethernet" (example below). On the transmit side I assume that jumbo frames would be tallied in the "Too large frames" counter. The receive side is a little more ambiguous. There are 2 counters that seem to be duplicates, "Valid frames, too large" and "Valid oversize frames". In operation they are not. I am seeing the "Valid frames, too large" counter incrementing while the "Valid oversize frames" remains at zero. [code]

I have too much output drops in my cisco 7206 VxR NPE G1 router. I'm doing dot1Q on this interface and is connected to switch , i changed the router and IOS but still the error is same . What can be the reason . The interface on switch and router are 1000/Full and i changed the cable also . The traffic only comes about max70Mbps and it is really confusing. [code]

when using egress netflow (v9) and output marking.
The topologie : Server <-----> R1 1>-----<1 R2 2>----<2 R3
R2 is a 7200 with c7200p-adventerprisek9-mz.124-15.T11.bin What I'm doing :- R2 forwards ping packets from Server to R3. When they arrive on R2, icmp packets are marked with CS3
- I change the DSCP to CS4 on R2 before forwarding packet to R3. I'm using for that an output service-policy on the R2-2 interface like this : interface ATM2/0.36 point-to-point
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.252
ip flow ingress
ip flow egress

I have a video feed coming into my 3570. It comes in at 5 minute input rate 18777000 bits/sec, 1695 packets/sec. However, the uplink to the router is much different, 5 minute output rate 130000 bits/sec, 28 packets/sec. I am in a lab and about ready to go into testing phase for a project when we discovered this problem, as this video feed is not veiwable on the other end.
Below is the config and capture from the switch.

On my SUP-7E, when I issue a " show interface vlan X " I cannot see the expected input/rate reflecting the real rate (which should be very high).
5 minute input rate 0 bits/sec, 0 packets/sec
5 minute output rate 4000 bits/sec, 2 packets/sec
(Under the physical interfaces it is ok)However on other SUP-IV I can see the real rate.
My questions are :
- Why the SUP-7E does not reflect the rate, whereas the SUP-IV does ?
- I have heard about the 'counter' command under the vlan interface to activate the rate counters. Is this command application has any side effect on the switch ?

I have made some test and i noticed that qos input policy does not classify the icmp packet based on their dscp. The "match dscp ef" or "match precedence 5" is not working only the "match protocol icmp" shows hits.
We need to classify the different icmp packets based on dscp ( TOS ) for measurement purpose.CISCO 7200, 12.4.25d and 12.4.20T have a same behavior.

What are the rough figures that a NPE-G2 is able to hold for the BGP routing table?
378475 network entries using 51472600 bytes of memory 378482 path entries using 21194992 bytes of memory 63008/63003 BGP path/bestpath attribute entries using 8065024 bytes of memory BGP using 82975730 total bytes of memory
Are these 3 memories different memory allocated or are they are a sub-set of each other? If a NPE-G2 has 1GB RAM, does it mean that the routing table limit is depending on the RAM availability?

My Draytek 2710 just dies after 2 years so I was looking for something a little more reliable and noticed the spec of the SRP527W-U.I take it with only one antenna and reading a couple of past discussions, the wireless will only manage n-lite as some people call it i.e. 150Mbps, and not the full 300? Oh, and are the ports still only 100M and not Gig?I know the 547 would tick both these boxes but we are talking twice the price. How does the quality and logevity of the SRP500 series compare to the RV series (which would need an adsl modem) or the Linksys boxes?

I have setup WCS logins to be managed by ACS 4.2 . I was looking over the docs and I appear to be missing something because I can't find any documentation on doing the same to the controllers. I did successfully lock myself out of the WiSM in the lab during some testing. I had to pull the plug on the lab ACS to allow local login.

I have been tasked by my boss of finding out and implementing a solution of building GRE tunnels from 2 4408 Wireless controllers system for a guest wireless network. I am but a low CCNA wireless, working on getting motivated for CCNP wireless, but I didn't even know if this was possible and if it was where to begin. I have been reading configuration guides but figure I should ask the wireless experts of the world of Cisco.

In need to upgrade the software on two WLC 4402 controller in a hospital. Both WLCs have the same config and one is primary (has all APs connected) and the other backup (no APs connected.) The APs are placed so there is still coverage if one goes down in an area. My question - is it possible to do a rolling upgrade to have no downtime for the wireless clients? My plan would be to upgrade the backup WLC then selectively move APs to it. If I swap the primary and secondary controllers in the high availability tab on each AP, do I need to do a reset (General - Hardware Reset) or will it automatically reboot and connect to the upgraded backup controller? When I'm done, I'd upgrade the primary controller and now call that backup. Does this make sense?

We need to rename our 4404 Wireless LAN Controllers. Would like to know if renaming via the GUI (change name in the Controller / General tab and then Apply) will cause the WLC to reload. Also wondering about the best way to push the name change to the APs (High Availability) - we are not using WCS.

If he purchases one, can he bring it into the network? What about the extra license for 25 extra AP's installed on the first controller?

L3 roam occurs when the user roams from an access point connected to its controller to a different access point connected to another controller, where the two controllers are L3 adjacent to each other.
so what exactly this mean the two controllers are L2/L3 adjacent to each other , what is the different between them.
