Cisco Switching/Routing :: 7609 / Interface Traffic Is Far Less Than Its Capability

Feb 24, 2012

The top device of my network is cisco router 7609. There are two part subnet of my network, each part use same device type, same running-configs and same network topple: sw6506(to campus)--->sw3560(to buildings)<--->linksys sr324(to offices). IP addresses for manager vlan is 192.168.1.0/24.Suppose we name two part subnet as A and B. the problem is from 7609 I can telnet to every device of part A quickly, but when telnet to  each sw3560 of part B,it responses very slowly. And only sw3560 of part B are response slowly, other devices of part B are ok.If I telnet to linksys sr324 first, then from linksys sr324 telnet to the current sw3560, it's ok.I try to capture packets of manage vlan, but there seems no strange things in it.No users of part B report problems, it seems the network is running well. Compare two sw6506s, the only diffirent thing is, there are "overrun" count at each interface in use of  part B's sw6506. Each interface traffic is far less than it's capability, but it's "overun" count still increasing at working hours everyday.

Looking to link up to 6513 chassis via 6704 10 gig cards.

I have a 6513 on the 8th floor and one on the 3rd floor in same building. Distance would be approx 150' max. New 10 gig cabling was installed between these floors.

I would like to use 2 10 gig ints on each 6704 to form a port channel (LACP) between the 2 environments.

So far I have been unable to get the links up between 6704's.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 6513 - Mod 9 Recycling Power - 10 Gig 6704 Card

Feb 26, 2012

I have 2 6513's between floors that have a port channel between them using 2 10 gig interfaces on 6704 cardsThis weekend I lost the port channel for about 4 mins and then it came back up. Unfort at the time I had logging turned off so was unable to get any info as to why. But I turned on debugging that eve and this morn it happened again.

Looks like Mod 9 is being power recycled, 6704 is about a year old and had been running for a month or so without issue.The only thing I have upgraded in the last few weeks was I put in a pair of 6000w supplies..But I am not having any other issuesother than mod 9. In hind sight a better design would be to spread this port channel across 10 gig cards. I'll work on that next.

Cisco Infrastructure :: 3825 Gi0/0 Interface Does Not Work With Modem

Mar 7, 2012

We have a Cisco 3825 router which does not work well with a DSL modem(ISP provided). I have configured the Gi0/0 port of the router to plug into this DSL modem but it does not ping to the ISP gateway. If we do a shut/no shut on the interface then it work fine for about 30 secs. Sometimes even for 1 hr. Then the packets drop and we cannot pass any traffic through this interface.Now, if the ISP connection is terminated on a computer it works fine. It works fine without dropping any packet. I have tried various options like using a straight/cross cable. I have tried to configure the interface negotiation for 100/full, 100/half, auto/auto and almost all the options. I have also tried to interconnect the devices using a L2 device like a HUB. Nothing works.

WRT54GL - Default Route In Quagga Doesn't Work If Specified Using Interface Rather Than Address

Apr 4, 2013

I have the following zebra.conf on my router box "A":

hostname nuclear-router
password password
enable password password
interface eth0
ip address 192.168.2.1/24
multicast

[code]...

eth0 is connected to a switch and contains the 192.168.2.0/24 range, and A is connected to my WRT54GL "B" (with IP 192.168.1.1, containing 192.168.1.0/24 range, DHCP serves IPs above .100) wirelessly. B is connected directly to my DSL modem.

The problem is that when I specify the default route using the interface name, I can't connect to the internet from A or any hosts behind it - I'm always hit with a "no route to host" error. Name lookup and pinging any local host (even in a different range) or the DSL modem works fine - it's only when going beyond the modem that things stop working. However, when I use the IP of B as the gateway, it works fine. I noticed that route output on A when the default route was specified using the interface alone had only an asterisk in the gateway column. I was under the impression that these approaches should be identical in practice, so though I got it working, I'd like to know what I'm misunderstanding (and/or misconfiguring). Why didn't the default route work when specified using just the interface?

All routers and the modem too have RIP (version 2) enabled, and of course the password isn't really the word "password".

Cisco WAN :: WS-X6704-10GE Along With SUP-2T Which Will Be Configured In VSS

Feb 9, 2013

This line is supported with SUP-2T, however not sure if the sup 2t will be configured in VSS. If any supporting document can be provided for the same , that would be great.

If this is supported than whether i would be getting line rate/non blocking capacity with WS-X6704-10GE. Since SUP-2T provides 80 Gbps bandwidth per slot.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 10Ge Between Catalysts 6500

I am in front of a choice what to select to deploy 10Ge in my datacenter to get four 6504e and two 3750x units connected to each other.All devices are located in 3-7 meters away from each other.The choice is whether to go for a multimode fiber and 10GBASE-SR X2 Modules OR cat7 UTP and 10GBASE-T X2 pluggable transceiver.Money wise it doesn't matter.Fiber looks less attractive since it's fragile and a bit harder to put in underfloor area.Cat7 is more attractive but there are 2 points:

1) I couldn't find ANY single photo of a 10GBASE-T (a module with a single RJ45 port). How does it look? Does it come with a cable or...??

2) How stable is it to run 10Ge over UTP?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4510R - SUP V-10GE Uplink

Jan 28, 2013

I have a two Cisco 4510R each with two sup V-10GE redundant. The code on these sup modules are 12.2(31r)SG3. I need some assistance in getting this setup worked out. I have all four of the 10GE populated with appropriate optics. I setup a link from one 4510R to the other using these interfaces. From the documentation I found I had to use Tengi1/1 and Tengi2/2 as the redundant pair. I plugged the up link into these ports. The Tengi1/1 (active supervisor) links up and works fine. But when I look at the ports port Tengi2/2 it isn't showing link or active. Now port 2/1 (nothing plugged into it) is showing as active.

Now is the redundancy supposed to be 1/1 and 2/1? If so, the switch is in production, when I move the connection over from 2/2 to 2/1 will it cause a outage? The reason for this is I now have a system with a 10G port and would like to utilize one of the other 10G ports. Is that possible? Or does it have to be a lag/redundant up link to work (say to another switch)?

Doing a sh int vlan 238 switching shows 30935411 RP (Route Processing) drops.It was a bit unclear to me in the thread "Input queue drops on 6500 vlan interface" if RP drops was through the router, or to the router(mgmnt)?I can do a netdr to see what traffic goes to it. It should not generate CPU load, but I think I will wait until after hours before I try that command.

I will be adding two WS-X6716-10GE cards in a CAT6509 soon, and will create 4 port channels with 3 ports each in the new cards, but I do have a few questions:

1 - I will be adding cards in slots 3 and 8, can I mix and bundle ports from both modules into a single etherchannel, I mean, like two ports in slot 3 and 1 port in slot 8 to create a PortChannel ?! Or can I only bundle ports in the same card/port-group in a Etherchannel using this WS-X6716-10GE card?

2 - Do I need to issue the hw-module slot x oversubscription port-group y command in order to be able to bundle ports in the Etherchannel I need to create ?! I will be using 4 Etherchannels (LACP)  with 3 ports each, running in trunk mode. So I guess, I will be using something like:

int tengig 3/1
switchport mode trunk
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
