D-Link DIR-825 :: Connected But Internet Drops Off?

Feb 24, 2011

I have the A1 version. I originally bought it and used it for a few months. I was very disappointed with the performance and went back to my Linksys WRT54G (running DD-WRT).

I recently decided to try it again. I upgraded to firmware 1.13. It worked pretty well for a week or so but now I am considering going back to my Linksys again. I keep losing my internet connectivity. The signal can be strong but internet becomes unavailable. Sometimes, just waiting it out works. Sometimes, disconnecting and re-connecting works. Sometimes, a reboot of the router works. Sometimes, nothing seems to work until it is good and ready to work. Sometimes, I cannot access the internet on my computer but my girlfriend still can. Sometimes, neither of us can connect.

I want to use it because I want the wireless-N speed to transfer files to my media center (and I paid a lot of money for it!) but the aggravation is getting to be too much.

There seems to be some correlation between visibility of my neighbors' networks and the connectivity issues but I could not swear to that. This is amazing to me because my neighbors are pretty far away and I can barely get the DIR-825 signal from my basement to my second floor.

D-Link DIR-615 :: VPN Connection Drops After 12 Minutes

Jul 16, 2010

I have a DIR-615, hardware version: C1, firmware version 3.12NA and my issue is that it keeps dropping my VPN connection after 12 minutes.  Sometimes it'll go longer than 12 minutes but on average right at 12 minutes of my connection, it drops.  This happens whether I'm using the wireless or hard wired to the router.  As a test, I ran a continuous ping on a computer on my internal network and also to a computer on my corporate network.  When I'm VPN'd in, both pings are successful.  Once the router kills my VPN session, the pings to my internal network are successful.  So the router isn't rebooting or anything like that.  My VPN session will automatically reconnect, but I'm stumped.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Drops All Paths Except Active One

Apr 23, 2011

I purchased the Dir-655 yesterday. My home network was all gigabit except for my router which was working fine, but I wanted the whole network within my house to be at gigabit speed.  I move a lot of big files around to my network storage device and wanted to speed that process up, which it has.After streaming a movie through the router out a hard wired port to my PC when I finished that movie I noticed that no other path through the router would work including Wi-FI, till I rebooted then they all worked again.

Last night watched a movie through the Wi-fi channel to my media PC in the basement and when the movie finished, no other port on the router worked until a reboot.In each case the channel/path in use continued to work although other paths were not working.It seems like a firmware/ buffer management issue.I made a couple changes. Enabled the Multicast option and turned of QOS.Failed again but not under the same conditions as before so I just turned off the Defragmentation option, I forget exactly how it was labeled.

Drops In The Link When Downloading Heavy Files?

What is the config.,which I can suggest my Bandwidth provider,so that my heavy files and small files should be downloaded at the same speed?y problem is that my bandwidth limit is 2 M.B.P.S. but I start getting drops as I start downloaded heavy files like 300 M.B. My Bandwidth provider told me that the only solution is that rate-limit will be increased. But it will be of Higher cost. Any configuration is there so that the same can be resolved without increasing Bandwidth.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Router Drops Connection About Once A Week

Sep 8, 2011

My router has started to drop its connection every week or so at random times. (its not the IP reset). My indication is i lose internet connection. But when it does this, i cannot even log into the Router. Its like it drops off the network completely.im still running FW 1.10, but im curious if this could be an outside attack as well. Its hard to get this info because i have to reset the router (ie unplug it) and that clears the log.. It also seems to reset the date/time as well.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Wired Connection Random Drops?

Apr 12, 2011

I should start by saying I am no novice when it comes to networks but this router has been nothing but a issue since day one.

*The Setup - 2 wired PCS, 2 Wired Macs, 1 Wireless Iphone, 1 Wireless Ipad.
WPA2 Only / AES key, Channel 6, G/N only, Hidden SSID.

*The Problem - 95% of the time the wireless and wired is running fine. However, Sometimes randomly webpages on the computer will stop loading... but heres the kicker... other internet connected programs like Ventrilo, or torrents, or games will still be working and running from the net like there is no problem. When this happens the internet browsers on the macs and PCs will say page cannot be displayed instantly. Happens to all computers at the same time. After about 10min the webpages will load again. I have 16mbs internet and while this is happening my games and voice chat programs do not go up in ping at all.

I have turned off QoS since that made the most sence... but other then that I have no been able to figure it out. I even turned off wireless while it was happening and it still didnt fix it. A sure fire way to fix it is to restart the router.

I am 100% stumped. Do I just have a bad out of the box router? it is only 2 weeks old.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Wireless Internet Occasionally Drops Out?

Feb 18, 2012

I have a new DIR-655: H/W Ver. B1; F/W Ver. 2.00 NA? It is solid as a rock to my wired computers, but the Internet connection (not the wireless signal) to my wireless devices (laptops and smart phones) occasionally drops out for several minutes, many times each day. It is not necessary to reset my router to reconnect; after a while wireless Internet returns on its own. I upgraded from another D-Link router and never had this problem. In my judgment the problem appears to be the router. why the wireless Internet connection might disappear and then reestablish itself?I used an app on my smart phone to select Channel 11. No neighbors have routers close to this channel. My cordless phones are DECT (1.9 MHz). My microwave oven does not cause this dropout.

The DIR-655 wireless settings are pretty standard:

 - WPA personal security mode
 - WPA mode is Auto (WPA or WPA2)
 - Cipher is TKIP and AES
 - Group key update interval is 3600 seconds
 - 802.11 mode is mixed n and g

When this wireless Internet connection dropout occurs, the router's signal strength does not decrease; the Internet connection just disappears. Time after time I have confirmed that the integrity of the Internet connection remains solid on my wired computers and disappears only from my laptops and smart phones.I have checked the wireless spectrum when the wireless Internet connection disappears. There is no other signal, e.g., no neighbor's router on my channel (11), and the strength remains at 5 bars.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Router Drops Wireless Connection Often?

Nov 12, 2011

I have a brand new dir-655 of the B1 / 2.00NA version. It seems to keep a connection alive, but the wireless signal will suddenly and randomly disappear from all of my devices. I have reviewed this forum for hours and have made many changes to my settings, but nothing seems to keep the wireless signal from dropping.

Deleted the B mode, made sure the DNS entries were present, stick on one channel, etc. There are no other routers here and all of my phones operate on the 5 Ghz frequencies.

I never, not even once in three years, had this problem with the A version of the same router, but now it's a constant problem at least once a day.  Nothing has changed by the router same brand and model but the newer hardware version.

The only remedy I have found is to reboot the router -- my devices will reconnect automatically once the router reboots, but there is no connection discovered once the connection drops regardless of how long the router sits doing its thing.

I've also notices that there are no wireless clients showing under status/wireless...they were there earlier today, but since the latest reboot, gone.

since getting a DIR-655, and I've had random loss of wireless access at least once a day, sometimes 2-3 times a day.While browsing around the settings looking for a way to increase the DHCP lease times I noticed the expiration times were way in the past. Like January 1970 or some such. Then I looked around and saw that date/time for the router was wrong. ("Current Router Time"). So i set up Enable NTP Server (Tools->Time->AUTOMATIC TIME CONFIGURATION).Ever since doing that I haven't had a single loss of wireless connectivity.  Rock solid.  For weeks now.

D-Link DIR-825 :: Router Drops Internet Speed?

Jul 23, 2009

I have had the DIR-825 since the beginning of the year connected to AT&T DSL Internet 3GB. I just upgraded to their 6GB download speed and didn't see any change in speed and suddenly I couldn't view my SlingBox anymore outside the house. I connected one computer directly to the modem, ran the AT&T speed test and got >5GB download and @700 upload. Wired via 1GB network back to the router, ran the speed test and it dropped to @4GB download and 120 upload.

I called AT&T, they checked everything, and said there was nothing wrong. I then spent almost an hour on the phone with D-Link including getting passed to 3rd level support. I knew something was wrong when the guy told me that since it was only a 1GB router, I shouldn't expect to get faster than 1GB Internet download.

The router is still running the 1.00 firmware and these are the changes they made me try so it's still sitting at these settings:

- Change the WAN from Auto 10/100 to 100 only.

- Change MTU to 1482 in my PPPoE settings

- Change Firewall Settings to turn SPI off. He said the router is still providing a firewall though.

He wanted me to download the 1.01 firmware but I balked and he said it probably wouldn't do any good. It ended with him wanting me to call AT&T back and set the modem to bridge mode. I then need to call them back and set the PPPoE again. This 3rd level support guy was very rude and am hoping to avoid calling them again.

Before I go through the hassle of calling AT&T and trying this bridge mode, or has the Elite 6GB service from AT&T and are having it work correctly.

Every time this happens I can unplug the power from the router and plug it back in which has fixed the issue in every case.

D-link Dir-825 :: 5ghz Wifi Drops During Heavy Load

Apr 21, 2013

Hardware Version: C1
Firmware Version: 3.00

Wired works normally, and wireless is otherwise stable, except when under heavy load. E.g. if I initiate a large TimeMachine backup over wifi to my NAS, it will fail and the wifi will drop requiring a power cycle.I have tried a similar transfer over ethernet (~1.7Tb) and although the transfer speed wasn't great (~10MBs, likely due to NAS drive bottleneck), it completed without a problem.

If I try copying ~150Gb over wifi, however, it barely lasts 30 minutes without dropping out.Once the wifi drops, it still connects, but nothing works (I am unable to even connect to the web interface using the local IP). Other devices connected already via ethernet or 2.5Ghz still function normally, but the 5Ghz just fails, and if I try initiating a new connection to the 2.5Ghz it doesn't work until I power-cycle the router.As far as overheating goes, I'm not sure it is an environmental issue... I have the router standing upright in an open space so there is good airflow around it.

One problem with DIR-655.

Drops wireless connection very often. On the taskbar in wireless network center (next to speaker and time) I can find info: Limited Access. Router doesnt drop internet connection but only wireless connection. Sometimes 3-4 times an hour. It's very annoying especially when you upload large files (for example 16-20MB) to your mailbox. It drops connection and we get Limited Access and you can try to upload again and again. Anotner example during VOIP conversations for example on skype it drops and disconnects skype.Firmware was never updated just router was bought with this firmware. We are located in China so its correct.When laptops are connected using LAN cable it works fine but its impossible to keep laptops connected using LAN cables all the time.The problem occurs only when we are connected by wireless.QOS is enabled, WISH is enabled.When QOS and WISH disabled it's same also drops connections on WIFI.

Networking :: D-Link DIR-636L Wireless Drops Periodically

Jun 17, 2013

Just a few days ago, my router started acting up. We have several laptops and phones all connected fine, then I will suddenly lose internet access. The windows 7 networking icon is showing me connected but no internet access, however, I can't even connect to the router ip address over wifi. If I use a wired ethernet connection, then everything still works. If I power cycle the router, then everything will work for an hour or two before it drops the wifi connection again. When the wifi goes down, all computers can see the network, but none can connect to it. From windows 7, it just times out.

What could be causing this problem, and steps can I take to troubleshoot this kind of problem?

D-Link DIR-655 :: RevB Firmware 2.01NA - Can't Connect (DHCP Drops Out)

Jul 4, 2011

Just got a new DIR-655 revB and upgraded to the latest firmware. I setup static ips, wireless, port forwarding, security, dynadns, etc. A few days after initial setup I noticed that my wireless devices could no longer connect and some of my desktops lost their ips (after their lease expired). After some digging and testing, I narrowed the problem down to DHCP dropping out and no longer assigning IPs. This happens after about 1 day of uptime. All the other router systems seem to work normally when this happens. Im not really running anything heavyweight on my network. I browse the internet and I have a few servers serving incoming connections. When I check the logs, I notice that every minute the following message is displayed: UDHCPD Inform: add_lease [ip of my win7 machine]. I have netbios enabled. Im thinking that the constant buildup of these requests may have something to do with DHCP dying later on.Is it too late to get a refund on this thing? Seems like a software issue so RMA will probably do me no good.

D-Link DIR-615 :: Connection Drops And Network Doesn't Even Show Up On InSSIDer

Oct 12, 2011

I have had my DIR 615 router for about 6 months, and have had no problems. I have a notebook (Sony Vaio) and I also have a Blue-Ray Player and my DirecTV DVR connected by ethernet. Starting a few days ago I was having connectivity issues. At first I could see the network on my Vaio, but the Internet kept coming and going.I did some troubleshooting on the adapter and that seemed to work. Now I am having an issue where every 2 hours or so the wireless drops and the network disappears from the list of available connections on my notebook. I have had my netbook on (connected wireless) and the issues are replicated on that system.

Both of my wired devices do not see any interruption in connectivity. Living in an apartment complex I suspected interference and indeed there are a ton of other networks in range (as per inSSIDer 2.0). As there is no channel that is clearly open, I have set my router to auto channel scan. I also have tried some of the steps outlined in other threads. The thing I am noticing is that when the network connection drops my network (which has a unique name) doesn't even show up on inSSIDer, it just disappears. When working, my network is consistantly in the -25 range on inSIDDer.I should point out also that my notebook is a mere 8 feet from the router, and there are no obstructions.

I have upgraded to current firmware but same result.I purchased for wireless N and print server features.Have reverted back to 4+ year old Netgear DG834GV which works perfectly with same cabling, filter etc. ISP suggest connect VG3631 on ADSL 1 but if I need to do that I may as well take it back and buy a cheaper wireless AP.I also set my existing Netgear as modem only and connected to EWAN port of VG3631 and it did the same thing (kept dropping connection), this suggests that it is a VG3631 hardware or software problem (completely separate to DSL/Line issues).
