Cisco Wireless :: 5508 Power Control Doesn't Seem To Adjust Radio Settings
Mar 17, 2013
We hav ea 5508 pair running in HA mode. Initially the conrollers were running the 73..101.0 code. We were having issues where the primary controller would software reset (according to show sysinfo), the secondary (HA SKU) would take over and then after a few hours the secondary would also software reset and the primary would take over. Also I notice that after this happens that the Tx Power Control doesn't seem to adjust the A radio settings, most of the radios are at the 6 level. Normally they are 1, 2, or 3. Last week I upgraded to 7.3.112.0, later that day the same thing happened.
Can I do this with a E4200? I want to do this for gaming reasons, and I mainly want to slow my speed down. I currently have my console hard wired to the router. I have accessed the firmware for the router but don't see how to change speeds.
I am trying to connet to the internet but it keeps telling me the radio on my 802.11 network adapter is still disabled. Use the hardware radio control switch enable it.I have had this laptop since 2004, I was on the internet before I got my new gateway laptop with vista windows. I went an turned on the emachine laptop and I don't no how to connect back to the internet. This has windows xp on it. I use to be able to run both machines.
I just installed Windows XP Professional on my Toshiba-X205 laptop and I am having a problem getting the OS to detect my NIC. I can not remember how to go into the control panel and configure settings so the OS will detect my wireless network or should i say i can not get my OS to detect my NIC so i can to connect to my wireless network. I think i may need to install the device driver for the NIC but i don't remember which driver i need for the NIC of my laptop and i can not find it on the Toshiba website, not supported anymore.
I am wondering if anyone has seen this before. We have about 50 AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 access points connected to a WLC5508 running 7.4.100.0. These were all being used as autonomous APs previously and were converted when the controller was installed. About 12 of these have a lovely feature where their radio interface goes down at random. The radio is still in enable mode but the opertational status is DOWN. It seems to happen particularly when there has been a power outage and the AP rejoins the controller. All of the other 1242s are fine and never sees this problem. The APs are all on power injectors.
Once the radio is down, the only way I can get the to come back online is by doing the following:
1. Set the radio admin status to "disable" and apply
2. Turn off CDP
3. Reboot the AP Wait until the AP is back online and registered on the controller
4. Enable the radio admin status and CDP.
If I do not remove the CDP setting I cannot bring the radio back to "UP". I know we had previous issues with autonomous 1242 APs that did not like CDP being enabled. Have I perhaps got a bunch that are like that? Despite these having operated as autonomous APs they are AIR-LAP1242 from the factory.
Has anyone come accross a problem whereby an SSID becomes unavailable when selecting a Radio Policy of '802.11g Only'? The SSID is configured identically accross multiple controllers, but only works on the WISM's. The same WLAN profile on a 5508 is unavailable unless I select a Radio Policy of 'All'.
All controllers (WISM's and 5508's are running 6.0.188.0)The WLAN profile is using MAC Filtering[WPA2][Auth(802.1X)] as the security policy.
I have set up a new wireless network for a customer and they want to use the guest portal for som users. The problem that I am expering is that on a particular site with many small buildings user complains that they have to reauthenticate using the webportal when moving between the buildnings. I have tired extending the idle user timeout on that particular wlan in the cisco 5508, but I still having this problem.
I would actually like if the user login via the guestportal at the beginning of the work day and after say 4-5 hours they have to reautencitcate. And if they loose network connectivity (moving between buildings, iphone/andriod shutting down wifi adapter, etc) they shuld be fine connecting again because they have aldready authecnticated once during the last 4-5 hours.
Is this possible via the ISE?My second question deals with 2.4 and 5 Ghz band.I use AP groups on each of my distribution areas. All groups have the same SSID but diffrenet egress interfaces (interfaces groups). And in some of these I want to save the 5 GHz band for voice over wlan and in others i would like to use both bands.
Do I have to create diffrent wlan profiles with diffrent radio policys and same SSID or could I do this in the AP group settings using RF-profiles?
I am looking for the Maximum Power Settings Spec for the 3600 AP. The one from 2008 is too old. Does an update exist? The AP Spec itself does not show power levels by channel and regulatory domain which is what I need. If I can't get the spec, I will have to query the AP using "show ap config 802.11x apname" for each config I need.
What do the broadcom power saving mode settings mean? If power saving mode is enabled, what is the time it takes to go into power saving mode? What does fast mean?
Everything was working fine. Changed Nothing on the router. Goes out and now wont broadcast a wireless signal, cant manually reset the router, or get into the settings with 192.168.1.1
Currently I am wired through it with my desktop and its working, but not much else.
Contrary to the information contained in the link above, these two parts do not play well together. I purchased both and plugged them in and no go. It doesn't even light anything on the WAP. It worked fine when it was on its own 12V DC adapter but not plugged into this injector. What I don't understand is why Cisco doesn't just make a Universal power injector that is essentially a 1 port switch and is 802.3af or 802.3at compatible. Its maddening. It looks like I'm going to have to get an SD208P and waste 6 ports just to get one with the correct POE for the WAP4410.
We are forced to rush a installation of a WLC 5508 various reasons in a testing lab. I eventually want to configure RADIUS and such but cannot do it at this immediate time. What I would like to do is implement straight forward MAC filtering. The problem I am having is the controller allows either any W LAN or only one W LAN, and a interface setting. I need to have each MAC be able to access several W LAN's but not all of them. Can anyone point me to a article or give me a quick idea of what I can do.I have basic W LAN's configured and have MAC filtering generally working. I cannot just use a user authentication because each user may have 20-30 devices, but not all of these devices should be allowed on all W LAN's and I do not want to rely on the user.
we have two WLC model 5508 with software version 7.0.116.0 (25 ap supported for each), i tried to add a new access point air-lap1131ag-e-k9 but after five minuts (maximum) the ap reboot, i replaced :
- power injector - AC/DC adapter - patch ethernet - switch port - switch - ip of the access point - reset a default of all access point i tried - reboot of both wlc
I took the ap and connected directly to the switch (with or without power injector), but the access point reset with this reason.
I am trying to bring the mobility group between 5508 wlc (dmz) and internal 5508 wlc but it says control and data path down. (Ihave allowed port 97 and ports 16666-16667 both ways), should the ntp be sinked inline iwth other controllers ?,should the Mobility group need to match (already discussed this in another forum but experts suggested they never had to match the mobility group), should i first create the ssid and anchor - at the moment i havent created the ssid to anchor.
I have a problem with RV042. My ISP gives me automaticly IP address and i had no problems using different types of routers, including linksys routers. With RV042 i just can't get the IP. It says, the port is up, i see the packets/traffic, front control light is blinking but it never receives the dhcp settings, doesn't matter if i use wan1, wan2, dual wan mode or single wan. I have the newest firmare 1.3.12.19tm. System statistics says "disconnected" but the packets come in and go out. Log shows absolutely nothing. I also disabled firewall but it didn't work. I can't seem to find the older 1.3.12.6 firmware.
I have been asked to allow our employees to connect their own devices to a open wireless network. I want to control access to preauthorized devices and I am looking for solutions. We do to have access to any other control devices like an ACS and I would like to archive the result using just the 5508 controller.
I'm trying to get 'Access Control' working so I can limit Wi-Fi time on my kids iPod touches, but the settings aren't clear and the help file is not clear whatsoever.I've been testing it with my iPhone, I have the MAC added, but none of the options available will even stop my iPhone accessing the internet over my Wi-Fi.
My APs 1142N don't join their WLC. APs and WLC management interface are in the same vlan (WLC can ping all the APs). It is strange because it doesn't seem like they are trying to contact the WLC. What's strange is that I have other AP 1142N which joined this WLC without any problem.

For some reason I can't get Access Control/Webaccess Filters working on my Dir-655 w/ 1.35NA. I've tried it with MAC and IP Address without any success. I've also enabled/disabled/enabled DNS Relay, recreated the rules, recreated the filters, etc. Nothing.
I upgraded my 3602i survey ap the other day to the public image the other day and I have to say.. I've got it up and going of course, but I have a concern on the transmit power settings. Originally, the only option it gave me was MAX and -4, which I hadn't seen before, interesting.. -4 of what? 20? 17 probably or I though? At any rate, I went into the CLI to set the power manually, no issues there, though my options are not what I expected, maxing out at 25mw basically, which is fine but.. in setting it manually in CLI, the web interface reports an Error on transmit power. So.. does this work or not? Any survey with this image to verify it's power settings? 15.2(23c)
I recently bought the WAG320N and initial setup (Wizard) went fine ....(I selected all the defaults as presented to me so I did not afterwards modify anything on the settings)However ...when powering off (and back on) the device , my Dreambox Sattelite units (DM500) could not get access to the internet anymore (outbound) on port 12000.All other internet traffic went fine ...through browser, wireless, ...all Ok.....I tried everything to resolve but ultimately only succeeded in re-configuring from sracth. powered off the device and brought it back up ....same symptons.Did a hard-reset (back to factory defaults), reconfigured through wizard and ...all Ok again .....until I powered the device off and back on .....I have come to a point now where I excluded all possible 'surrounding' disturbing factors (eliminated switches etc ....and only connected 1 Dreambox unit directly to the device) and ....same symptons ....when powering off/on, the dreambox cannot get out anymore and re-configuring from sracth resolves ....until the next power off/on.And ...it is really the power off/on handling (reboot procedure WAG320N ?) that is causing it .....(I disconnected the DSL line and put it back in , forcing the modem to reconnect DSL and then all still works Ok ). ? It seems as if certain -internal- settings get lost after a power shutdown.....but why specifically port 12000 ?
Our DIR-615 has started freezing and when reset (power cycled), it reverts to factory settings. This has been running 24/7 for several months with no problem. Three days in a row now I've woken up to find our home network is down and the DIR-615 status lights are "yellow". Power cycling the DIR615 resolves the problem however the DIR-615 looses its settings, reverting to factory defaults (looses the admin password, wireless settings, etc). I can reload the settings from a file saved on my computer but needless to say, this is a bit annoying. I don't believe there are any wireless clients connected at the time as most of the wireless is served by an airport two floors up. There are several wired devices always connected:
a Zoom ATA carrying our "land line" a tivo (doing whatever tivo boxes do) a SSL based Voip phone (different than the zoom ata) an AirPort Express 802.11n (bridge mode) which may have a couple of wireless clients a laptop which may or may not be sleeping at the time
There are a couple of ethernet switches in the network. Some of the devices acquire addresses via DHCP, others are assigned fixed addresses outside the range of the DHCP addresses served by the DIR-615.Nothing has changed on the network in months.
The only settings I've messed with on the DIR-615 are:
a) set the admin/user passwords
b) Set the wireless network name, enable WPA, set the WPA Key
c) enabled ntp (this is now disabled and I've set the time manually)
d) Change the network base from 192.168.0. to 192.168.4.
The DIR-615 is hardware rev E3, Firmware 5.10 The cable modem (from RCN) is a Scientific American model DPC2100R2

All other internet traffic went fine ...through browser, wireless, ...all OK.....I tried everything to resolve but ultimately only succeeded in re-configuring from scratch. This solved the issue .....until ....right...I powered off the device and brought it back up ....same symptoms. Did a hard-reset (back to factory defaults), reconfigured through wizard and ...all OK again .....until I powered the device off and back on .....
I have come to a point now where I excluded all possible 'surrounding' disturbing factors (eliminated switches etc ....and only connected 1 Dream box unit directly to the device) and ....same symptoms ....when powering off/on, the dream box cannot get out anymore and re-configuring from sracth resolves ....until the next power off/on.

I planned a discovery of devices for some time, but if I change the parameters of discovery (adding a seed device) in "Discovery Settings Summary", this change does not apply in the scheduled task.
If I change the settings in the scheduled task, the changes do not apply in "Discovery Settings Summary". We must change the settings 2 times.
I have 2504 WLC with a few access points. the problem is when the PC's go in sleep mode, the users have to re-authenticate when they log in again Is there any way to let the PC's automatically re-authenticate without the user having to type in the credentials again?I have web authentication configured for this SSID and authentication is using the WLC local Data base.
I can backup the router settings on an RV110W, but not restore them. I get an "unable to write" error. (probably not the exact verbiage). Defective router, or firmware issue?
We got a new Cisco 2911 router (CISCO2911/K9) with a switch module (SM ES2-16-P) on it. Everything works fine after the configuration except for the power. We got 4 WAP that we will connect to the switch module that needs power. So the switch module with POE doesn't give any power out.
