Cisco Wireless :: Concurrent Users Per 3600?

May 7, 2012

This is one I am having a hard time finding an answer for.  How many clients can a 3600 AP support?  For 150 clients on one of these, what would the throughput be for each client?

If my calculations are correct, the device can deliver 420 Mbps, which gives each client roughly 2.8Mbps. Is this correct?

Cisco Routers :: SRP527W Maximum Concurrent Users

Oct 11, 2012

We have a client that is looking to provide connectivity for up to 800 users at a conference. They have a SRP527W available to them. Looking at the configuration we have been able to provide the needed number of IP addresses through VLANs each with their own DHCP scope.

However we are doubtful that the router will be able to process such a high number of connections (NAT, Firewall etc.) even though they will be using a specialised application that pulls static content via WAN.

Thus far we have been told that the unit has supported 150 user no issue, my I am guessing anything over 200 and you would start to see stability issues?

Huawei B660 3G - Can 3G Signal Strength Weaken With More Concurrent Users

Jun 4, 2013

I'm using a Huawei B660 3G router at my house, with with a service provider called 8ta (in South Africa). I've been struggling for months to try and get them to troubleshoot and fix my connection, which was working fine for about a year.

I'm now daily struggling with download speeds of as little as 0.1Mbps to 0.5Mbps, especially after 5pm until about midnight. Upload speed off course is even worse.

8ta, has after months of me complaining agreed to install an antenna at my house, which will probably take another few more weeks for them to accomplish.

I often have 5/5 bars of signal on the router, so my argument is that signal strength might not be the problem. Since the connection is in a residential area, I would assume that their network is more likely to be a bit more congested after hours, but a technician explained to me that their network is never more than 30% "occupied".

Can the number of users connected on the 3G network/tower cause signal strength to attenuate for surrounding users?

Would it replace the B660 (7Mbps) router with a 21Mbps counterpart?

Cisco Wireless :: WCS And WLC Versions For 3600 WAP

Mar 5, 2012

I got a few Cisco Aironet 3602i. The minimum WLC version to support these is 7.1.91.0. I am planning to upgrade to 7.2.103.0. The minimum WCS version to support these WAP is 7.0.220.0 and the next available 7.0.230.0. Checking the release notes for both of these WCS versions, there is no mention of support for WLC versions listed above.

Am I missing something here ? What versions would be required on WCS and WLC to make all the three entities (WLC, WCS, WAP) inter-operable ?

Cisco Wireless :: Converting 3600 To Autonomous?

Jan 13, 2013

I am not having much luck getting it converted via normal ways.

It times outs on TFTP server when you hold the mode button (a 3500 is working fine doing the same thing).

I try the old school way of archive download-sw but it isn't fast enough before it re-dhcp's because it can't find a controller. "*Mar  1 01:17:51.123: %CAPWAP-3-DHCP_RENEW: Could not discover WLC using DHCP IP. Renewing DHCP IP..'  Even if I set a static IP address.

Is there way to disable the join process while I upgrade the software?  I guess fire up a controller for it to join.  I hope I don't have to have a controller to convert these.

AIR-CT5500-K9-SPECIAL-7-1-91-0.aes
(direct update possible)

before doing that I'd like to know if I will loose my configuration on the controller i'm concerned about that because the release document is not clear:

- We highly recommend that you back up your controller's configuration files prior to upgrading the controller software. Otherwise, you must manually reconfigure the controller.

- For busy networks, controllers on high utilization, or small controller platforms it is advisable to disable the 802.11a/b/g networks as a precautionary measure.

- Step 5 Disable any WLANs on the controller.
- Step 19 Re-enable the WLANs......
- Step 22 If desired, reload your latest configuration file to the controller. (reload config after reenabling wlans?another controller  another question .....: a cisco wlc 2100

found 2 update files

AIR-WLC2100-K9-7-0-230-0-ER.aes
AIR-WLC2100-K9-7-0-230-0.aes

why 2 update files this time? what file to update first?

Cisco Wireless :: Downgrade 3600 Capwap AP To Autonomous

Nov 12, 2012

I have to prepare an 3600 Capwap AP for autonomous functionality!

The following image was downloaded: ap3g2-k9w7-tar.152-2.JA

The release notes say: Site-Survey Only Mode for 3600, 3500, and 1550 Access Points You can install Cisco IOS Release 15.2(2)JA on Cisco Aironet 3600 and 3500 Series access points and on 1550 series outdoor access points to perform site surveys. This release runs on these access points with limited functionality. You can manually adjust these settings on the site-survey access points:

• Channel on each radio
• Transmit power on each radio
• Enable and disable the radios
• Manually set basic and supported transmit rates
• Enable advertised cell power in beacons to client to enable DTPC for doing active surveys
• Enable and disable SSID broadcast in beacons
• Enable open authentication

My Question is: Where can i find a instruction for downgrading an AIR-CAP3602i to Autonomous 3600 AP? Is it complicate to get the AP running, or what do i need for "downgrading"?

Cisco Wireless :: 3600 / 5508 - Access Points And Controller

Apr 11, 2013

We have an MPLS (layer 3) network 4 offices and a Data center. We are planning to install about 10 Access Points(3600 series) per office and have a controller(5508 series) in the Data center.

Questions:

1- Is this design possible, in other words, just one controller centralizing all Access point traffic in one controller in the Data center?

2- We would like to accomplish this in two phases:
A- install access points without controller handling authentication thru Microsoft IAS servers (current configuration with 1200 series)
B- Deploy wireless Controller in Data center and start migrating orphan AP to Controllers one office at a time.

Cisco :: Maximum Number Of Concurrent Connections To 1142 LAP?

Apr 7, 2011

We are having random issues of users not being able to connect to our wireless network consistently. The users will have successfully accessed the network previously but then will have difficulty associating to the network. After a period of time, the association appears successful again. My first thoughts were that there was a restriction on the number of clients that could associate to a given AP at any one time. This is the equipment we have:1x Cisco Wireless Control Server (WCS) 6.0.181.04x Cisco 5508 Wireless LAN Controllers 6.0.196.060x Aironet 1142N Lightweight Access Points (LAP) Is there a hard or recommended maximum number of clients per LAP? If so, where is this defined? From what I have read on these forums, Cisco apparently recommends about 25 clients per AP but I can not find any official documentation to support this. When I go to WCS Home > General > Top APs by Client Count, the top AP reports 20 clients. However, if I click on the AP Name and go to the Current Associated Clients tab, it is only listing 8 clients - why is this?
