configuring DHCP on access point, i have cisco 1142N access point, in my network.. working in autonomous mode, i have assigned a static ip to access point with default gateway.. from AP i'm able to reach internet and user connecting to access point are not able to get ip.. i have DHCP server in my network. how to make access point to fetch ip from my dhcp server and assign the saem to client.

I have one management vlan 5 & User VLAN for WIFI VLAN 10 . The problem is when i make the POE port which is connected to the AP as trunk port means : [code]I am not able to ping the management IP allotted from VLAN 5 . However when i make it as access i am able to ping the managament IP . But for both the VLANs to work it should be in trunk mode & in cisco i can either assign the port as access or trunk .Post this i would configure the 1142 N with Cisco SG300-10P POE Switch . I guess if issue with my 4510 gets resolved the same way i can configure SG300-10P as well .

The networking part is successfully working, multiple VLANs, SSIDs etc. I would like to configure one of my wireless networks to work with WAP2-PSK and the other with WPA-PSK.I’m confused as to what encryption to set on each radio and the ciphers to use on the SSID for each vlan to enable the best possible security. I’m not using a RADIUS sever in my network .point me in the right direction with the right CLI commands?

View 9 Replies View RelatedHaving some problems connecting up my "new" AP My current set-up consists of a Netgear "Virgin Superhub" cable modem/wireless router, a ZyXEL WRE2205 (repeater) in the hall on the first floor, and Ethernet connections through to a number of rooms, including the loft. I can't get wireless access in the loft, and I want to put the AP up there, connected through Ethernet. I want to use the same SSID and security for the AP as on the router and repeater so I can roam around(!) That's possible isn't it?What I've done so far (which hasn't worked) is connected via laptop to AP, set AP into AP mode(!), set the AP to dynamic IP, set the SSID / security the same as the router/repeater, plugged the AP into the Ethernet and tried to connect.

I had to disable dhcp on them because they are on a wired subnet where I am using the static IPs and don't want my wired clients to get DHCP addresses, nor someone to be able to plug the wire into own laptop and get on the network. We have network that uses a Cisco router and use a WAP54G to access the network wirelessly.
We use static IP address so if someone wants to use the wireless an IP address has to be assigned to it and be manually configured for IP Address, Gateway, Sub Net Mask and DNS.
This is becoming unwieldly, but it is safe. Is there any way to config the WAP54G as a router that would automatically assign an IP address in a range just for wireless devices.
Therefore the wireless devices could be set up as DHCP and we would use WPA/WPA2 encryption with a passkey, instead of just assigning static IP addresses.
I have a rental property with 3 apartments that are sharing the same internet connection. The users are consistantly downloading more than their monthly allowance, and I would like to monitor how much data each apartment's users are downloading.My plan is to purchase a Cisco WAP2000 Access Point and configure 3 SSIDs (one for each apartment). I havent decided if each SSID is to be setup on it's own VLAN.
Will I be able to use SNMP to monitor the data that each SSID has downloaded each month? I am happy to use a network management software package (such as PRTG from Paessler) for the actual monitoring itself, but I just need to know if the SNMP in the WAP2000 Access Point will provide the information to begin with.
I am trying to configure an older Belkin Router (Model Number 5FD8230-4) as an Access Point so that I can boost the range of my network. The problem I have is in configuring the old router. It won't allow me to change any settings, or at least the changes don't stick, even after clicking "apply changes". I tried creating an administrative password but I am not even sure that this is working. I am using a Macbook, so perhaps this is an Apple compatibility issue. I have tried resetting the router and reverting to Factory default settings, but no joy.

I fill in the password field... and get into config...
So I think it could be a bug with static IP... I'll try on the wireless security... select "manual"... change nothing (leave default value) click save... wait a while... connect on the DHCP ip, return to the wireless page... and lost a lot of time since nothing is saved.
I just purchased an Aironet 1142n and need to configure/set it on one subnet in our WAN and ship it to another subnet on the WAN.
I have not been able to access the unit using a network cable from a pc direct connected to the Aironet. The pc's ip address is set to 10.0.0.2 I can not get to the access point thru the web interface using 10.0.0.1.
When I attempted to access it using a Hyper terminal connected to serial port and console port it loaded a list of software and updates and then reported that it shut down and I could not do any thing with it.
What must I do to be able to configuer a static IP and assign it an SSID and Security settings? How can I access the web interface? I have reset it by uplugging the power cord and holding down the Mode button while I plugged back in the power cord and holding it until the light turned amber/orange. Currently the light is solid green with the ethernet port direct connected to the nic card on a desktop.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco 870 integrated service router and 3 Cisco Aeronet 1180 Access Points.I have configured the router to act as a DHCP server. with all four /26 subnets in a seperate address pool.the first one is for the routers wireless interface and works fine.but the other 3 are for each of the wireless access points, that are used for internet access, but have to operate independently (i.e. the clients on each must not be able to access anything other than the devices associated with that access point and the internet.
The problem I are having is that the router doesnt distribute DHCP information via the access points so the clients on all the access points are not recieving any internet connection at all, but are connecting to the access points, and the LED for the access points suggest that they are connected t the router, the router accnowledges their existence but is not transmitting through the fast ethernet switch ports. but is communicating with a wired printer that is associated with the wireless vlan.
Each access point is on its own vlan, and the switchport access vlan command has been used. only the five static addresses have been excluded from the address pool. the router, the three access points and the printer adresses are static. the printer is working despite being the only device on the /24 network all other addresses are on the /26 networks. this to my knowledge shouldent work but it does, which is handy because the printer software doent support subnetting.The simulation I have ran say that only the printer shouldent work, but its the access points that are not working how they should. I have studied the configuration of the router and access points, and came up empty on why they are not recieving DHCP information.
I are not even able to telnet to them, despite having an address setup. I have not set up a routing protool on the router due to it being the only router. I have checked the interfaces fa0 to fa3 and they are line up protocol up, the wireless is line up protcol up, the vlans are line up protocol down, except the one asociated with the wireless which is line up protocol up (I believe the protocol only goes up when a device is connected to it).
To extend my wired ethernet I have purchased a WAP300N access point and connected it according to the instructions. I can see the AP from a wireless client and connect, but no IP number is provided to the client. The AP is connected to a router which has a DHCP server via wired connection (though a switch). The AP does it self get an IP number from the router but does not pass through DHCP requests from the clients.Occasionally an IP number is provided, but then there is no route to the LAN or the WAN on the other side of the AP.I have tried a whole lot of things to make it work (and been in the internet chat for two hours with a Linksys supporter, who could not make it work either).I have tried to set the IP number in the AP to static.I have tried to remove security (has to be WPA2 eventually, but for the sake of testing it has been removed)I have tried to factory resetI have tried to reinstall the firmware (the same version as the factory installed)etc.

View 2 Replies View RelatedA Cisco RV220W router/firewall connects the local LAN to the internet. The router is connected to a new Cisco SG300-28P switch configured in Layer 2 mode. There are two new AIR-1142N wireless access points running in autonomous mode connected to 2 ports on the SG300 powered through PoE. The AIR-1142N access points are running the latest firmware version 15.2(2)JB. There are two VLANs defined: VLAN1 is the native on all devices, and VLAN2 is for wireless guest traffic to provide access to the internet only.Internal/staff traffic is on 192.168.100.x, and the wireless SSID is MYNetS.Guest traffic is on 192.168.200.x and the wireless SSID is MyNetG.IP addresses are being assigned by the RV220W.
All works well with one exception. Wireless clients on the internal SSID are able to ping/access the switch, router, and other clients on wired ports on the switch. The router, switch, and wired clients can ping wireless clients. However, wireless clients, on the same SSID and the same 1142N cannot ping/access one another. They are being isolated from each other. We absolutely need to have this capability.The SG300 does not have port security enabled on any port. none of the workstations/laptops have a firewall enabled. These laptops are all Macs btw. I have checked that neither of the 1142N access points have Public Secure Packet Forwarding enabled on either of the VLANs.I am at a loss as to why the wireless clients are being isolated.
