Cisco Wireless :: How To Program Aironet 1200 For 3 VLANs

May 15, 2012

We had two dozen Aironet 1200 access points and a controller donated to us from a local hospital that no longer needed them. My boss would like me to set one up with 3 VLANs:

- encrypted VLAN for staff

- encrypted VLAN for students

- unencrypted VLAN for guests

Ultimately, we'd like the staff VLAN to have access to all internal network resources, the student VLAN to have access to several pre-defined printers, and the guest VLAN is web-only access. Whether the controller we were given will accommodate that, we won't know until we get one Aironet 1200 programmed and connected to the controller. For the time being, I just want to get this access point programmed with the 3 VLANs.

I'm easily able to get it running a single SSID (non-VLAN) network and confirm that I can use that network fine. However, I need to set up these 3 VLANs. I can connect to it via telnet if that'll let me program it faster.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Configuring It As Secondary Access Point?

Sep 15, 2009

I have a DLG-4500 router as my primary router and want to connect a second router (DIR-655) to it as an extention of the LAN to the second floor of my home. I have found instructions on doing this with most other routers, but not DLINK.  In fact when doing the initial configuration and trying to disable the WAN link on the second router by using a bogus IP address string (127.0.0.1) The router won't let me save the change?  What are the steps for configuring a secondary router cascaded to the primary (both wireless) to extend network coverage.

Cisco :: Configuring Aironet 1100 Access Point?

Dec 22, 2011

I have dozens of Cisco Aironet 1100 access points, each is managing its own wi-fi with DHCP. I had to disable dhcp on them because they are on a wired subnet where I am using the static IPs and don't want my wired clients to get DHCP addresses, nor someone to be able to plug the wire into own laptop and get on the network. It's been working fine with one exception - I need to be able to ping my access points from the central site, and I can't. What IOS command would enable ICMP echo on my access points in this case?

Linksys Access Point :: Configuring WAP54G As A Router?

Mar 26, 2012

We have network that uses a Cisco router and use a WAP54G to access the network wirelessly.

We use static IP address so if someone wants to use the wireless an IP address has to be assigned to it and be manually configured for IP Address, Gateway, Sub Net Mask and DNS.

This is becoming unwieldly, but it is safe.  Is there any way to config the WAP54G as a router that would automatically assign an IP address in a range just for wireless devices.

Therefore the wireless devices could be set up as DHCP and we would use WPA/WPA2 encryption with a passkey, instead of just assigning static IP addresses.

Linksys Access Point :: WAP2000 - Configuring 3 SSIDs

Mar 21, 2011

I have a rental property with 3 apartments that are sharing the same internet connection. The users are consistantly downloading more than their monthly allowance, and I would like to monitor how much data each apartment's users are downloading. My plan is to purchase a Cisco WAP2000 Access Point and configure 3 SSIDs (one for each apartment). I havent decided if each SSID is to be setup on it's own VLAN.

Will I be able to use SNMP to monitor the data that each SSID has downloaded each month? I am happy to use a network management software package (such as PRTG from Paessler) for the actual monitoring itself, but I just need to know if the SNMP in the WAP2000 Access Point will provide the information to begin with.

It won't allow me to change any settings, or at least the changes don't stick, even after clicking "apply changes". I tried creating an administrative password but I am not even sure that this is working. I am using a Macbook, so perhaps this is an Apple compatibility issue. I can't get wireless access in the loft, and I want to put the AP up there, connected through Ethernet. I want to use the same SSID and security for the AP as on the router and repeater so I can roam around(!) That's possible isn't it?What I've done so far (which hasn't worked) is connected via laptop to AP, set AP into AP mode(!), set the AP to dynamic IP, set the SSID / security the same as the router/repeater, plugged the AP into the Ethernet and tried to connect.

Cisco WAN :: Cat 3560-E / 2960-G - Configuring Two VLANs On Same Switch Port

Mar 29, 2012

As per my attached diagram, I have three switches (Cat 3560-E and couple of Cat 2960-G)

Each PC is on different vlan
PC -1 on vlan 100
PC-2 on vlan 200

I need to connect PC-1 and PC-2 to the server. Server has no fixed vlan and can be changed.

Restrictions:

1) can’t change PCs vlan assignment.
2) can’t add 2nd NIC in the server.

I’ve tried private vlan but it requires separate physical ports for host and/or community vlan and somehow it did not work. I could be wrong Trunking using dot1q enabled on port 2 on all switches and connection works fine (server to PC-1 or server to PC-2) by enabling switchport access vlan 100 or switchport access vlan 200. However I need port 5 on switch-1 to respond to vlan 100 and 200.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Configuring ASA5510 To Allow VLANs To Internet

Jan 29, 2012

Here is what I have. Windows Domain Controller running DHCP with configured scopes.I have one ASA5510 And 4 HP Procurve switches with VLANS preconfigure from vender.

Here are my DHCP scopes/VLANS:

VLAN1 -Default 10.2.x.x/17
VLAN201 -DHCP 10.2.201.x/24
VLAN202 - WLAN EMP 10.2.202.x/24
VLAN203 - WLAN Guest 10.2.203.x/24
VLAN 252 - MGMT 10.2.254.x/24

Here is how I configured the DHCP Scopes:

Changes needed to make to the DHCP Server (AUSPDC) in order to get things working with the new switches.

1) Configure 3 new DHCP scopes on your DHCP server.

a) scope for 10.2.201.x/24 to serve LAN employees and give them a gateway address of 10.2.201.254.

b) a scope for 10.2.202.x/24 to serve WLAN employees and give them a gateway address of 10.2.202.254.

  c) a scope for 10.2.203.x/24 to serve WLAN Guests and give them a gateway address of 10.2.203.254.

I just upgraded and decided to go with the VLAN configuration. None of my VLANS can get out to the internet or each other due to I think My ignorance in configuring the firewall. The PC's are getting proper IP address but they cannot get out or to the other VLANs. I tried to duplicate what is working for VLAN1 but it is not working.

Here is my config.

Result of the command: "show running-config"

Cisco :: Configuring Trunking And VLANs On A 2100 Series Wireless Controller?

Oct 4, 2011

We have 4 1142N LAPs that I want to divide between an internal wireless and a guest wireless network using the controller.  Currently all of the APs are on an established internal network, but I want to migrate one over to a test guest network before buying more LAPs to augment the networks further. Currently the port connecting to the WCS from the 3560 switch is configured as an access port using VLAN 10.  Whenever I make it a trunk port carrying VLAN 10 as well as the other ports we will be using for the guest and ap-manager networks, I lose connection with the controller.  To me this implies that the port on the controller is configured as an access port as well.  In the documentation I found for the controller it states that by default the ports are al configured to be trunks, but it appears as though something was changed by the previous tech.  All of the APs are connected to other switches, not to the controller itself.

1) How can I get the port on the controller back to being a trunk port

2) Can I use the internal DHCP server for the guest network if the subnet is different than the management subnet, or will I have to use another external server and relay/proxy it through the controller to give guest clients IP addresses?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 - Configuring Multiple VLANs For Single Port

Apr 11, 2012

I would like to configure a 3750 switch port to be able to use two vlans. I know you can do this with a voice and data vlan, but what about two data vlans ? Say I have two devices, one on a 10 subnet and the other on a 172 subnet, but i only have one wall jack for both devices to plug into. So I use a mini switch to connect both devices and connect the switch to the wall jack; and of course this all leads back to one switch port. When I go to enter the switchport access vlan 172 cmd, how would I also make it so the device on the 10 subnet could route out ?

Linksys Access Point :: WRT54G - Unable To Find Access Point In Home Network

Aug 29, 2009

I just bought an LG Bluray DVD player (BD390) which is unable to find the access point in my home network. My router is a WRT54G, ver. 2.2, running firmware: Ver.4.21.1.  My home network uses high speed cable with two computers on the wireless network, all working with no problems. The router is on the second floor but the two computers and the new BD390 are on the first floor - about 35 feet away. I have the wirelss security set to none and use only the specific computer MAC addresses to allow connection to this network.

I found directions in the forum for a setup using the LG BD390  but with a different Linksys router. I changed the security to WPA (AES); the Beacon interval from 100 to 75; the Fragmentation Threshold from 2346 to 2304; and the RTS Threshold  from 2347 to 2307. The DVD wireless connection still failed to find my network. There is a "Push button" connection feature on the BD390 setup which I tried, but the only "button" on the router I could find was in the basic wireless setting, a green icon for the wireless SSID setup. No connection was made there either.

The recommendation connection from the LG manual is for a network cable, but that would be over 50 feet and a real pain to connect, so I would prefer WiFi.
