Cisco Wireless :: Management Model Of WAP121?
May 13, 2013I'd like to know if WAP121 can be centrally managed by WLC, such as CT5508.
If WAP121 cannot be centrally managed by WLC, is there any way to minimize operation work to manage WAP121?

View 7 Replies View RelatedIf I connect my WAP121 directly to my router, it works just fine. But when I connect it to my SG100D-08P switch I can see it but when I connect, I get "limited connectivity" and it cannot "identify". The switch is PoE and everything looks to be working fine, but I have tried it both PoE and regular thru the switch; nothing works. Can't understand why if I connect it cat-cable going into the switch it works fine, but when I coonect it thru the switch, I have problems. I thought this switch was unmanaged, but something is going on.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have 4 WAP121s running 1.0.1.10. After a couple of days of operation, they all become unusably slow. The admin web interface takes several minutes to load, and wireless clients timeout before RADIUS authentication can complete. Waiting long enough allows the diag info to be downloaded, which shows hostapd using all of the CPU time available: [code]
As a workaround, we used to use a small script to reboot them every night via SSH, but someone at Cisco made a less-than-brilliant decision to remove this advertised feature.
Just got several of these Cisco WAP121 AP's and today had a nightmare with one of them. On one of our areas with no broadband access we have installed the "Globe Surfer 3+ 3G Router" which incorperates its own Wireless AP.
I needed to get decent wireless access further down the building, so the idea was to use the WAP121 and setup WDS with the Globesurfer. No matter what guides I followed I could not get the WAP121 to talk to the Globe Surfer for internet access.
using the WAP121 and a Third party router ?OR, is this a case that the WAP121 wont work with a 3rd party router ?
I get the message "Firmware upgrade has failed. Please ensure that valid entries were specified in the required fields." when I try upgrade the firmware rootfs.bin.
View 4 Replies View RelatedBought multiple WAP121s which are physically connected via CAT5 to the Ethernet NIC of a printer. Printer is in a warehouse with no Ethernet cabling -- but there is a wifi signal provided by a Cisco wireless router -- which is why we got the WAPs -- so PCs could get their jobs sent to the printer via Wifi > WAP > printer NIC.
Problem is the printers only stay visible on for about 15 min or so -- then disappear. Only way to get them visible again is to do a powercycle on the printer (not the WAP121). Then it stays visible for for another 15 minutes or so -- then disappears. If a Workstation sends a continues (-t) ping to the printer IP -- the printer will stay online and get print jobs.... but if activity is idle for 10-15 minutes... it disappears (power-save is off on the printer).
Firmware on WAP121 is current.
What setting on the WAP could be enable to keep the printers alive? have been trying to operate in bridge mode... What is the "best practice" here for connecting a printer to a WIFI via these WAP121s?
I just upload firmware1.0.1.10 on 2 WAP121. After the update and reboot, I was able to confirm the firmware version in the System Summary menu. The update is uneventful. However, the functions WDS Bridge and WorkGroup Bridge no longer works on two WAP121:
- For WDS Bridge, when I configure a Remote MAC Address with WPA Encryption and then I click on the Save button, nothing happens there. But it works well when I choose without Encryption.
- For WorkGroup Bridge, when I click on the Save button (even without changing the configuration), I have a message "Certificate file uploaded successfully" and another error message in the background: "error occured for query you send path . device.sync ... "
1.0.0.3 firmware is not available on your site, it is imposible for me to go back.
Although it does accept it in the setup wizard, you cannot change it in the vap list later on, it will throw a popup telling you there's an invalid character.
I'm running firmwarte 1.0.0.3
I've just bought a pair of WAP121 for testing and validation. I've set it up properly (user/password, IP, management vlan, NTP, SNMP, 802.1x, etc). So far, so good, everything worked as expected. I've downloaded the configuration to my PC, and also saved it to startup-config. I've powered off the unit, went for a coffee, and powered it back. All my settings were lost.
Tried to restore settings from the file downloaded to my PC, but no luck. After reboot, it was factory clean, no trace from settings in the backup file. I've set it up again by hand, power cycled it, and the **** thing reloaded to default settings.
Faulty unit, I thought, so I opened the other one I have, and repeated the whole thing, but same results. Test were made using the power adapter supplied but also tried with a catalyst 2960 with PoE.
I recently purchase my first Cisco products for a network for our church. I have a RV180W router, WAP 121 Access Point and a SR2016T switch for our network, which is just pier-to-pier at this point. We have 5 computers connected with ether net through the switch and all see the Internet and work fine. The wireless connection through the router is working fine with our wireless devices (laptops and i Pads). Where I am having issues is with the AP. It is in different area away from the router being powered through POE instead of the regular power connection.
My problem is this: it takes FOREVER to connect to the AP and to the Internet, even when sitting directly under the AP with full signal. Once connected, it appears to allow Internet connection just fine, but getting to that point takes 15-20 minutes sometimes. Also, when I come back the next day, I have NO signal at all, as it seems the AP has "timed out" due to inactivity or something. I have to reboot the AP and the router to get it all back up and running again. I need for the signal to stay up all the time or at least come on when someone connects.
So, what am I doing wrong here? I have recognized and authorized the AP through the router config, security is set up fine and I can see it once it comes up. I have the AP set up as a completely different SSID, although I would prefer to have the AP as merely an extension of the router's wireless network if possible.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter an hour on the phone with the Linxys support people I'm feeling like I've been scammed.I have a 2 year old, almost to the day, Linxys Wireless-N Broadband Router, model # WRT160NVZ, which decided to stop working today. I contacted Linxys support and was told since it is 2 years old it's no longer under warranty, ok. If I choose I can pay for a service call and the tech may be able to fix the router, no guarantee. I had another option to purchase a service plan but again no guarantee repairing the router. My third option was to purchase a brand new wireless router for a discounted price, if I chose this option the tech would attempt to repair the router at no charge. I expressed my concern that it would take a few days to receive the new router and what would I do while waiting. I was then assured the router I have now could be repaired and would be able to hold me over until I received the new router. So I chose the 3rd option purchasing a M20 wireless router to be shipped to me within 3 days. After providing my credit card number and billing/shipping address the technician was now able to work with me in trying to repair the current router. He had me access the Linxys website, he instructed me in resetting the router and resetting the settings for it on the website and PRESTO, my 2 year old router now works again.but feel that this is a scam, programmed in the router to occur within 2 years of purchasing where the settings entered no longer work but once changed works perfectly well.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an Asus Model U56E. Recently the wireless has been disappearing whenever I turn off my laptop. What I mean is that when I turn on my laptop, the wireless doesnt seem to exist. I go under device manager and all I have is the eternet and my bluetooth device. About 85% of the time, when I go under "action" and click on "scan for hardware changes" the my Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N1030 will show up along with the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adaptor and I'll get my wireless back. However, when my laptop turns off, the same thing happens.
In addition, my fn F2 button no longer seems to work. I'll press on it and majority of the time my light that signals that the wireless is working does not turn on. Most of the time it stays off whether or not I am connected to the wireless
This is what I already attempted to fix it, based on googling for answers:
1. Under the properties of my wireless and miniport adapter, I went under power management and unchecked the box that says "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
2. I went to my laptop's power plan and changed all my wireless adapter settings "power saving mode" to maximum performance for both battery and cord
3. I went to the intel website, had it look at my laptop wireless system and followed their recommendation of installing an updated wireless software thing. All that happened was that it told me to disable my old wireless and then install it. However, even though I followed their instructions, it continued to repeat the same message. I had to perform a system restore to get my old wireless back
4. I disabled wireless console 3 (by Asus) under programs and it seemed to work. My laptop was getting connected whenever I turned it on. However, the next day my laptop updated itself (b/c of my system restore) and I am back to the same situation except my wireless console is still disabled.
My firewall outpost detected incoming connections on port 80 and blocked them.I think that the router must block incoming connections on port 80, right? But it does not.

I am unable to log in to my wireless network with my TV. It worked with my old router but the EA4500 recognizes the network but will not accept the password. Even if I open up my guest network which is not secured by a password it will not connect to my home network. I've chatted with Cisco and Visio on this problem and Visio says it's an encryption problem with the router. Cisco wants me to have someone call me who charges for tech repairs.

For some reason, in 'Device List', my Apple Mac Pro has the manufacturer 'Logitech' and the model 'Squeezebox Radio'. As for my Logitech Squeezebox Radio, it doesn't have a manufacturer nor a model. It appears that there is a mix up with these two devices. I have cross checked the IP addresses and MAC addresses displayed in Cisco Connect Cloud with those displayed on the devices and they match - so it's not a case of mixed up names. Could this be an issue with Cisco Connect Cloud?
