Cisco :: Getting Console Into Catalyst 5505?

Since I am a collector of all things Cisco, I picked up a Catalyst 5505 switch today. It has two supervisor engines in it, a card with 12 fiber ports in it, and two 24 port cards in it. I am trying to console into this thing, but I am not having any luck. I have Googled it and some threads say it uses a normal straight through cable and other threads say it uses the normal Cisco rollover cable. I tried going both routes but no luck?

I just purchased a used Catalyst 2900 XL switch and have not been succesful in connecting to the console via minicom 2.5 running on Ubuntu 12.04 or 11.10, I don’t even get junk charecters in the terminal or echo on input. The switch passes POST according to the LEDs on the front and the network ports are fucntional for switching purpouses.
I’m using a Prolific PL2303 USB-Serial adapter, which works with minicom to console into another device. I’ve tried every baud rate available and tried combonations of hardware flow control, software flow control, and niether.I’ve tested the pinout of the console cable and all pins map correctly according to Cisco spec.I’ve also tried Cutecom, putty, and screen. I have not tried HyperTerminal because I do not use windows.Is it possible that the previous owner disabled console access? Do I need to reboot the switch each time I test a different baud rate?

I want to configure my switch via console cable, the switch boots up normally, and there are no configurations present on the switch. However, anything I type does not appear on the terminal client. I used several terminal clients (TeraTerm, PuTTY, HyperTerminal), all latest versions as well as different PCs. I even forced the switch to rommon mode, still, anything I type does not appear on the terminal client.
Here's the output of TeraTerm:

I planed to configure a new catalyst 2960 switch with console cable.
During the boot, all seems ok. but from my terminal client, I can't have access to configuration mode.Keyboard or Terminal client is not sending commands to the switch.

Are there any best practices for preventative maintenance on Catalyst Chassis switches. Looking to build a PMI schedule for a customer. Or is there evidence not to perform it at all. Things like re-seating line cards, cleaning fan exhausts, etc.

I have a 1841 router and I can ping the f/0 port from my pc. However when i try to console to it, it is not showing up anything but a blinking cursor. I tried all different baud rates on my teraterm but still not luck. I picked the baud rate disconnected and reconnected everytime and still nothing. Then I tried to telnet to it using teraterm but it would just open a console window and then close.

I have a issue where after configuring aaa and rebooting, logging into the console port seems to be auto trying something before it finally times out and let's the user try. I getting the following sequence: [code] I need aaa to work via vty, however I need the device to boot directly to the Username: prompt so I can continue to use my VB script to clear the config when the devices are return from the field.

I was given an old Cisco 2611 to screw around with, no idea if it's working or not and no idea if the configs and passwords were wiped. Now my problem is that when I turn it on I don't see any console output at all.
Using 9600 baud, 1 stop bit, 8 data bits, no parity or flow control.
The power LED comes on and the activity light blinks for ~1 - 2 minutes before stopping. If I plug something into one of the Ethernet ports on the back the link light comes on for the port and the activity light occasionally flashes, from DHCP probes or something from my netbook I assume.

I have an early model PIX-515 that hasn't been used in a long time but I want to get it working again in a lab environment. I am at loss right now on how to get into it though.
CONSOLE:
I've tried connecting from the PC's serial port to the units console port using Cisco's blue cable with no avail. All I get is a cursor but no response. I've tried using 9600,8,none,1,none as settings and I can sucessfully console a Cisco 1700 router with those same settings in Putty no problem, but it doesn't work with this Pix. I've also tried using other possible common speeds like 1200,1400,4800,19200, 38400, 57600 and 115200 in case the firewall was set to use those and that didn't work either.

Due to some wrong access policy applied in the administration control settings. GUI access is not functioning. So we need to take a backup thru CLI mode using FTP server. I have tried using the backup command in the console & taken the backup using the following steps. But the backup file is less than 1kb. I need the exact Db backup to be taken.

I can start a console connection with my 2620xm, but the only output I get from the terminal software (Putty and Tera Term) is the character " ÿ " at all times even through bootup. For every boot up, I get an additional " ÿ ".I have Baud 9600, 8 bit, no parity, stop 2 bits, no flow.Is there something I am missing?

I have got a problematic 1841 router. I connected it with console cable and use HyperTerminal application with

but the displays shows as follows. What may be the problem ? I can't see the English language, what to do now ?

I dont think my cards are faulty (4 cards in 2 6500 switches),I connect directly to my WISM cards, boot them (insert them), I see it turning on, enabling services, and as soon as the "username:" prompt apears, the Status led turns off and I lose console. [code]

my client claimed that right after thry upgraded their WLC 4402 to version 7.0.220.0 from the version that came preinstalled (factory) the can no longer console into the device. They were able to console into the 4402 before the upgrade but now they can't. I'm thinking that maybe they upgraded straight to the new version and didn't verify to see whether they were allowed to upgrade directly to that version 7.0.220.0 or if they needed to upgrade to a intermediate version , the proceed to upgrade to the 7.0.220.0.

I had a Cisco AS5350 , and it works correctly through the year. but now I could not conncet to it even with console cable .my windows is server 2008 ,COM1,9600, but in hyper terminal I couldnt see anything from cisco,even I have change my console cable , but it still doesnt work.

We let cisco professional to configure 1941w router with EHWIC-3G card. So the Gig 0/0 and wlan clients could communicate the internet over 3G.So we bought another 1941w and copied the config over to new one. Can ping from console but not from client pc. The only differents between old and new is "ip source-nat" line. New router just don't save it to running-conf. No errors also.

We forgot the IP address of this WAP, and resetting the router doesn't take it to the default IP, no matter how I try to reset it. The SSID (and WEP key) stays the same too, which makes me wonder if the reset button is even working. We can still connect computers wirelessly through it and have them access the internet. Our issue is we need to change the SSID. Right now it just connects people invisibly - it gives them IPs from the subnet it's attached to, and yet the various DHCP servers I've connected to never show it as having its own DHCP address.

Our main ASA5510 is set up to failover to a second 5510, and is using the management port for that purpose. All of the other LAN ports are in use.
Currently we can manage the ASA using ASDM5.2 from and device on the LAN.
We are now going through PCI Compliance, and one of the vunerability scans has picked up the fact that the firewall appears to accept connections on SSL v2. However, if I try to set SSL to use v3 or TLS v1 only (as we don't use webVPN), I get a message that I will no longer be able to use ASDM to manage the firewall as changing to SSL v3 will 'prevent ASDM from establishing a secure connection with the ASA'
So does this mean that the ASA does use / accept SSL v2? The help files say that it will accept 'hellos' in v2 but will then try to negotiate to SSLv3 or TLS v1. It doesn't give more details about what happens next, but I would have assumed that if it can't negotiate to one of the later protocols it will drop the connection - is this correct? If that's the case I may be able to get PCI to accept it.
However, if this is not acceptiable and I have to switch to SSL v3, what options do I now have of administering the ASA through a GUI?

Debug is not showing up on the console. I have configured logging console. My older switches, if an interface goes down or is brought up, it shows up on the console, but not on the new 4507s.

We have a WLC 2504 which has been configured, however our old admin left and we can not access this device. We verified our serial connection works - 9600; 8bits; 0 and none works on other devices. When we connect (via Console) we get a blank screen with a blinking cursor. We can't get to it from GUI/Web as well. Tried depressing the reset button and we see the LED's flash from yellow to green, but still no access. Our web search has not produced any useful ideas.

We have a 3900 router that we would like to do authentication via a local userdatabase. We want ssh access and console access using a local user on the router. I've been working on the console piece and everytime I try it, I get prompted for a username, but it is not accepted.

I was trying to get into my router to give it a reboot yesterday, but was unable to get into the console. I used the username/password I've used for over a year (it was also auto saved) but it would not let me in. I went through all the steps to do a hard reset/restore default settings and it wouldn't let me. I had to access the boot loader to reload firmware, and that worked out just fine.
Now, I still cannot get access to the administration console with the default username (blank) and password (admin). I've tried moving my PC to ports 1-4 and none work.
I was about to give up on the router but I tried connecting from my iPhone and everything works just fine. I was even able to change my SSID and WPA key again.
Would this be a hardware issue, or could there be something in Windows 7 that's affecting it? I have disabled the windows firewall and AVG and still can't get any access from either Firefox or IE.
A couple of times I was able to get onto the first page of the console through IE, but if i tried clicking anything else it would ask for the username/password again and not connect. Now it won't even let me in once.

I have linksys ADSL Router which is having one line port for Phone Line and 4 Ethernet Ports.The Router IP is 192.168.1.1. When i connect this Router through one of its Ethernet Port to one of the Network Point(which is DHCP enabled)is working fine. I get the IP 192.168.3.x from my existing DHCP not from the ADSL Router which is enabled.Secondly, Although i can Ping the Router IP 192.168.1.1 from Wifi client 192.168.3.X, But when i try to open the Router Console a Login window open and is says " your are trying to access the Router in an insecure ways and it doesnt not authenticate ID and PWD.When i directly connect Router to my Laptop then am able to do so.
