Creating A Permanent VPN Tunnel

Jul 10, 2012

I have a VM (Alice).I want to route ALL its traffic through a server of my own in the UK.It needs to be 'fail-safe' in the sense that the traffic must either be routed through the server, or not at all (EG with windows VPN dialer, if the VPN connection is dropped it will immediately begin routing traffic normally again - that's not acceptable*). I need to run windows on the VM, the server can be anything. The VM is connected to the internet via a linux firewall/router box in my house (set as default gateway for the VM).How can I set this up?

Cisco Routers :: RV180 - Establish Permanent Vpn Tunnel Between Each One Of Remote Sites

Apr 28, 2012

I'm dessigning a network and this is my scenario:

5 - Remote sites (no static IP there)
3 - Remote users (comercial)
1 - Central building (using static ip address)

Is it possible to establish a permanent vpn tunnel between each one of my remote sites to the main building, even if I have no static IP address in the remote sites?

Do you think that RV180 is the best choice to mannage vpn connection between remote sites and the central building securely and faster?

Cisco VPN :: Creating GRE Tunnel Over ADSL Between ASA 5510 And 2901 Router?

Jul 6, 2011

I've been looking to see if its possible to create a GRE tunnel between a Cisco 2901 with 3 adsl WIC cards and a Cisco ASA.The Cisco 2901 is at our remote office and we have 3 adsl lines for resillience as they tend to go down alot. The Cisco ASA is at our Head Office sitting behind our ISP's managed router.

The desired end result would be to have three GRE tunnels, 1 for each DSL line terminating on the ASA at head office and use EIGRP routing protocol to move traffic across to another tunnel should one fail, and encapsulate all of that with IPSEC.

Cisco VPN :: 851 - Creating Site To Site VPN Tunnel To 887?

Nov 16, 2011

I have a site with a 887, they use VOIP and one user wants a phone at home (as remote extensions, firewalls and NAT, and voip don't really mix very well)

They have a dynamic IP on a cable line at the moment...

I was thinking of using, a 851, plugging thier cable modem into that and creating a site to site VPN tunnel to the 887.

Will the 851 do this? I don't want to spend money I don't have too...

Will this work generally? and with the dyanamic client IP (could I set up the 887 as an EZVPN server and the 851 as an EZVPN remote?)

Setup Permanent Printer IP Address?

Nov 18, 2011

I have a network printer which is connected to unmanaged switch, then unmanaged switch is then connected to one of the slots on the router (to get internet access). I use the program Free IP Scanner to look for the IP so then I can find the IP address of my printer. Then I would go to Port setting of the printer and change. Every week or month I have to do this. Two things I would like to know:

1. I have a 2003 server which is not connected or active yet. it's just sitting there running but no computers or printers are connected yet. How do I make this to be a printer server and solved my issue of having keep tracing the IP for my printer?

2. If not using the server, how would I setup my printer IP address to be permanent?

Fast Network Sharing AND Permanent Address?

Jan 12, 2012

I need a place to share files between a few other people that:

1. Is fast and easy, like sharing files on a local network with gigabit hardware. Why not do exactly that? (see next point)

2. Has a permanent address to access the files, as if it were hosted on a website. The reason for this is the software I will be using to point to these files does not use relative paths. If it did use relative paths, I was simply going to setup a shared dropbox with all the files, but alas, that does not work. I want this solution to be future proof, so that no matter how much I change my setup, the file paths that my software is looking at will always remain the same.

3. (optional, but preferred) Ability to automatically backup these files. Like an rsync with amazon S3 or something.I am guessing there is a simple and widely used solution to this, like an ftp setup, just not sure how it all works.

Oct 21, 2011

I have had this router for a while now and I have been experiencing these problems for forever. I can't seem to have two Xbox360's stay on OPEN NAT type permanently. I have tried port forwarding both xbox's, just my xbox, just my dad's xbox etc.. I have tried DMZ on one with or without the other on Port Forwarding. I have turned UPNP on I have it so the filtering is set to endpoint independent . I have tried without . I have even tried port triggering today. I have manually set static ip addresses on both the xbox and the router. I even have the most recently upgraded firmware. Now... How do I get TWO Xbox 360's on OPEN NAT ? How to get two xbox360's on permanent OPEN NAT status.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2811 Permanent Traffic Monitor?

Feb 17, 2012

I was previously using SDM for our Cisco 2811, and this past week installed CISCO Configuration Professional so I could have access to a bandwidth/traffic monitor.

I have successfully started the monitoring service and monitored traffic from within CCP, but it appears that if I turn off the computer I am using to monitor the traffic, it stops collecting data until I start CCP and the monitor up again.

Is there a way (maybe with IOS console commands) that I can have the monitor always running, so I can pull up, say, a week's worth of info at any time?  Leaving the computer on all the time is not an option, and currently I have only a few days of data, then a big empty chunk, and then what I have collected since I started it back up today.

Creating Different Networks With Powerline Adapters

Sep 20, 2012

I am looking at using a TP-Link Powerline Adapter (TL-PA211 Starter Kit) and a Trendnet 4-Port Broadband Router Tw100-S4@1CA (both listed on Amazon) to connect my Hitachi L32A402 HDMI television and a Roku XD|S to the internet to use Netflix. And also to connect my housemate's new laptop.

I believe the setup would be from my Dell Vostro desktop to the Trendnet router to one of the TP-Link Powerline Adapters. This would be on the second floor. Then in the basement I would need to plug in two additional adapters ... I would connect one to the Roku and then to the Hitachi tv and connect the other one to my housemate's computer.

My questions are:

Can I keep the computers not visible to each other? We would both like to maintain our privacy ... and I don't know if we connect everything up this way if our computers will be open to each other. Is this called putting them on a separate network?

I saw something in the documentation in this manual [URL]. I think on page 20 it is telling me I can give one adapter a different name to put it on another network, but I am not sure. And I also see that it also says for there to be connectivity they need to have all the same name "HomePlugAV".

So, if the tv and the main adapter have "HomePlugAV" as a name, and my housemate's adapter has a different name ... then they will all work (get on the internet) - but my housemate and I will have privacy?

Are there any issues about anyone being able to access my computer through the tv ...

Creating The Image Get Stuck When Restoring

Nov 8, 2012

Creating an image is almost always a success. However, when restoring, sometimes the process gets stuck somewhere (the client reboots prematurely if that happens) and more than often the clients can't boot into Windows anymore. All clients have the exact same hardware. Now I know the image can't be the problem, as I've restored this exact image to a client two days ago and it booted perfectly fine. Everything worked.I tried to image two clients at the same time. The first thing I noticed was that the method used was NFS and not UDPCAST, which it should be. Now I know it wasn't using multicast because the imaging went asynchronous.

Creating A Private Network Within A Larger LAN

Mar 16, 2013

I'm starting college in the fall and will be living in the dorms on campus. I want to have a "private network" setup within the university's network in my dorm room so my and my roommate's phones and iPads can still find my Apple TV, file sharing and network drives are still possible, and I can easily set up my network printer. Obviously, I don't want to lose Internet connectivity. Can I use NAT to accomplish this without losing Internet connection through the university?

how the sysops will hate me if they find me, I know this. It's not for malicious use, only for ease of use of my devices.

This may be totally off base, that's why I'm asking if this will work before I try it. I have an old WRT54G I would like to use if its capable, if not I'll buy a new one but I'm trying to avoid that. Here's what I'm thinking:

My router plugged into the University's Ethernet port in my room (for this setup do I use a LAN port or the WAN port on the router?) DHCP disabled, all devices static IP On the "Advanced Routing" tab: "Router" mode, not "gateway" mode What should my destination LAN ip be? Gateway? LAN & Wireless or WAN?

Switch connected to the router

Devices connected to the switch or connected wirelessly Should my gateway and DNS on each device be the host address assigned to my router?
