EXPI9301 Intel NIC Keeps Disconnecting
Sep 6, 2012
I recently upgraded to a Intel EXPI9301CTBLK (PCIe) and have been having trouble with the connection disconnecting. Mostly I have noticed it when I have a torrent running with a lot of connections, but it has happened at other times as well. If I have 3+ torrents running it will disconnect every fifteen minutes or so. If I unplug the cable and reconnect it everything works fine. Otherwise it seems to work perfectly fine and will transfer files from my file server at 95+ MB/s.
I running Windows 7 and have not installed any drivers other than the ones that the OS automatically installs.

I know now that this is a Desktop motherboard, officially not supported for Windows Server operating systems, but I would still like to get it to work. I've confirmed that the motherboard network works in WinXP (Intel 82579V Gigabit) and typically the 32-bit Windows XP drivers work on Server 2003 as well. Several of the other drivers have installed just fine, but the network driver install package fails with "No Intel Adapters are present."
I am trying to install Windows Home Server v1 (based on Windows Server 2003) on this box and just want to get a basic network driver up and running. I've checked the BIOS config, and Device Manager shows a yellow question mark by "Ethernet Controller". The ID is:
PCIVEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_20408086&REV_043&11583659&0&C8 but I don't really know what to do with that...

This first started happening a couple of weeks ago when a piece of software was put on to the computer off an external hard drive. First the wifi would turn itself off but after turning it back on it might happily stay on for a few hours before switching itself back off.The day before yesterday it decided to start turning itself off straight away. I plugged in with ethernet, uninstalled the old drivers and reinstalled new ones, this didn't seem to do anything so I turned on my firewall and titanium defense and after a while it decided to start working again.Earlier today I connected my DSLR camera to my USB 3 port to download pictures, this killed my wifi straight way. I reconnected with ethernet and I'm not sure what I did but now the wifi has decided to work again.

I'm running Win7 on a Lenovo x200. Has run fine for a year. Lately the wireless card disconnects and the system shows no available card. Have to reboot to reconnectThe card is an Intel 5100 AGN. Have tried uninstalling all software and reinstalling latest drivers from Intel and Lenovo. Have tweaked power saving controls, and tried about every suggestion out there. But the problem persists.

I have installed an Intel PRO/1000 MT Dual NIC into an HP Elite 8200 box on which I'm running Citrix Xenserver 6. The HP box also has an onboard NIC which works fine.
I'm having problems with the dual NIC. If I plug a cable into one or the other, but not both at the same time) that NIC lights up and shows as connected in the XenServer console. But as soon as I plug a cable into both NICs neither of them lights up and XenServer seems to lose sight of both of them.
Why can't both work simultaneously? Do I need to run an Intel utility of some sort on them to configure/flash them in a certain way for a Linux box (XenServer is based on Red Hat)?
I have also tried getting them both to work when booting into a Linux Live CD so I don't think it's a XenServer problem. I have also found that the exact same problem exists when the dual NIC card is installed in a Windows 7 system - one of the NICs will work, but as soon as you plug a cable into both the lights go out. So it doesn't seem to be an operating system issue.

I've been having some issues lately where if I am copying large amounts of files two and from my NAS and thus saturating my gigabit ethernet, web browsing and internet streaming slows down which is a bit of a bummer. I figured I might fix this with link aggregation.
My switches (Procurve 1810G-24 in basement and 1810G-8 in office) both support 802.3ad Link Aggregation. It works beautifully to connect them together, as well as to connect my FreeNAS box to the switch as well.
how do I set it up to work with my Windows 7 box?
I can't find the options for 802.3ad in the windows menus anywhere, and googling has not led me to the answer yet...
My motherboard has two on board Intel gigabit ports (Intel 82574L and Intel 82579V). Is it possible to link these two, or do I need to pick up another Intel PRO PT dual port copper gigabit NIC like I have two of in my server?

I let him take control of the system, he ran [URL] with me 6 feet from router, and then again 30 feet. Huge difference in speed, approximately 10x slower at 30 feet. He initially stated the problem was with the antenna connection and offered to send a tech to replace the antenna, which requires a display replacement as well. I was skeptical so pressed him to verify that this was a known solution since there were so many complaints. He was absolutely certain this was the issue, but put me on hold to double check. He came back and stated they needed to replace the wi-fi card from the Dell 1901 to Intel 2230 along with the antenna. As a former antenna engineer, I suspect the problem is the design of the antenna and/or its location, and not the drivers or wi-fi card.

I've been trying to setup a wireless ad hoc network so I can connect to the internet using my iPod Touch. My wireless adapter is Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection running the most up-to-date driver.
- Set it so Windows configures my wireless network settings
- Created a wireless ad hoc in Wireless Network Connection Properties
- Changed it so that network access is given to ad hoc networks only
- For my LAN connection under Internet Connection Sharing, "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection" is ticked I am able to connect to the network that I setup but when I try to connect to the internet it fails. When I check the Wi-Fi Networks setting on my iPod Touch it gives this information:
IP Address: 169.254.1.158.228
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Router: (blank)
DNS: (blank)
Search Domains: (blank)
Client ID: (blank)
I checked and that IP isn't my IP?

my Intel wireless card keeps losing the connection. Until a couple of weeks ago it would be fine for roughly the first 20 minutes then the connection would just completely drop out and the only way to get it back again is to go into the network and sharing centre, disable the network card and then reenable it. Most of the time this works, but again for only the first 20-30 minutes, then I have to do it again. Occasionally it works for for longer but that's a rare occasion. Now not only does it do this, but also, if I put my laptop into sleep, sometimes when I turn it back on again the card will not connect to the network and I have to do the same disable and enable process.[ODE]

I installed an Intel 4965AGN into my Dell Inspiron (running Windows 7) to connect with 802.11n to my D-Link DIR-655. It refuses to connect in N mode, it will only connect in G mode. I have tried everything I could find online. I set security to WPA2-AES, and even tried with no security with no luck whatsoever. Before the 4965AGN i had an Intel 5300 which had the same problem, but I returned it because I thought it was a problem with compatibility with my Dell. Apparently something else is the culprit. What could I be over-looking?

My RIM Playbook will connect to the DIR-601. My HP Laptop with the Intel WiFi 5300 AGN will connect to it.
However the Acer Aspire 1640 with the Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG will not.
SYMPTOMS: The system can see the network SSID, even seems to pick up the correct encryption (AES or TKIP) and also whether I've configured it for B or G modes. However when I attempt to connect to the network, the system prompts for the key, then pretends like it never did. A second attempt prompts for the key, and attempts to connect, but fails, simply saying "Cannot connect."
SOFTWARE: This laptop is running Windows XP Home Edition SP3. I've tried connecting using the Intel client PROSET software (the newest version, just downloaded) as well as the native Windows client. THE EXACT SAME BEHAVIOUR OCCURS, leading me to believe it's not a software issue.
HARDWARE: This is a D-Link DIR-601 at Hardware Version B1 and Firmware Version 2.00NA
I have the router set to WPA-Personal, WPA2 Only, TKIP (have tried it on AES too), G only (have also tried B only). The router has already been hard reset and I started over from scratch. I've also ensured I have the latest drivers for the wifi adapter.
Other laptops, tablets, and even phones can connect to the router with no issue.
Seems like this is an incompatibility with this particular Intel WiFi adapter, but cannot find any official list of incompatible hardware I can use to confirm.
Would changing the software to DD-WRT work in this case, do you think? Or is this more likely to be a hardware thing?

If you had to chose between Dell and another OEM manufacturer for a server to be used in a 1-20 user/employee/computer office network, which OEM would you go for? For a long time I have been recommending/selling Dell servers to my SMB clients (mainly the Poweredge T series) and am pretty comfortable working with these servers. However, I'm also a Lenovo business partner and they seem to have some aggressive pricing. Have any of you used Lenovo servers lately? Pros/cons? Warranty support good? I noticed HP is now selling Microsoft software licenses as a kit when you purchase a server, appearing to be discounted, even if you were to buy the licenses separately through a volume agreement.
Also, being that most of my clients in the 1-20 user/employee/computer office environment are looking at their bottom line, how would you configure a new server to run Microsoft SBS 2008 (some using Exchange, others not yet but may in future)? RAID1/5/10? 8GB RAM enough? Intel Xeon E5600 series processor? SATA or SAS drives?
Here is what I would normally build out a server from Dell:
single Intel Xeon E5620 processor
8GB RAM
PERC RAID card configured in RAID1
500GB SATA drives x 2
SBS2008 (I don't have much experience with SBS2011 yet, figured it would be best to let others work out any potential issues first)

I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN wireless card that isn't working properly. It will connect at first, then the connection is dropped. This started happening gradually, then became more and more frequent. I tried reformatting my computer, and this still is happening. When I use a wireless USB adapter, the computer has no problems using the wifi.

I have two PC's in my house. One server, one workstation. Both running Windows with Intel gigabit NIC's (82574L and 82579LM respectively). Switch is a Cisco 3560G. Being on a LAN, everything is < 1ms.
I get different speeds when doing a Windows copy between the boxes.
From the POV of my workstation:
Workstation sending file to server: 189Mb
Workstation pulling file from server: 726Mb
From the POV of Server:
Server sending file to workstation: 396Mb
Server pulling file from workstation: 268Mb
Why is it so lopsided? I'm sure there are settings one can optimize in the Intel NIC drivers to bump up the speed.

I have an Intel GT 1000 NIC installed in my XP Pro SP3 PC.I downloaded the driver update file for this NIC: "PROWin32.exe", version 16.6, dated 9/30/2011 for Windows XP 32 bit.The install failed with the following error message: I emailed these details to Intel Tech Support but have not yet heard back from them.
I searched my PC for "VC90_CRT_x86" and found it in many *.cab files but not as a single file anywhere else on my computer. How to get the new driver to install? I'm using the GT 1000 because the Realtek NIC that is on my MOBO failed a couple of years ago.

I have an HP laptop running Windows XP almost five years old which contains an Intel Pro Wireless 3945ABG network device. It connects fine with my router WiFi running off DSL. I recently bought an iPhone 4 and set it up as a personal hotspot. I've been able to connect a friend's Macbook to it. But even though my HP laptop sees the iPhone network, when I try to connect to it I get "Unable to connect to this network. It may be out of range." So what I want to do right now is trying to connect to this network using my built-in adapter.I'm facing right now is that the driver of the adapter only searchs for a certain provider from the US (Clear). I'd like to subscribe to their service but I live in Argentina so that's not a valid option. So my question is if you know of a custom driver or some other way to search for my local wimax network.
