I suspected her router... however I took it to my home to try it out on my router (whihc works fine on all our computers here).... and the same problem.. her computer says it's connecting.. accepts the WPA key etc.. but still no internet appears. when you hit diagnose on the failed window.. it says firewall or security settings are preventing acccess to internet!
View 2 RepliesI have a pair of ASA 5510s configured in active/standby mode. I have already configured the fail over settings on the firewalls. Both firewalls are connected to a 2960G. I made a change to the interfaces on the 2960 to allow 2 mac addresses on each port. [code]
Upon testing failover via the failover active command, I get port-security errors on the outside interface for each device:%PORT_SECURITY-2- PSECURE_ VIOLATION: Security violation occurred, caused by MAC address aaaa.bbbb.cccc on port GigabitEthernet0/8. After a few minutes, the error goes away and I can then connect to each firewall. It seems that it still waits for the aging time to expire before allowing the other MAC address. Shouldn't the "maximum 2" setting allow for both mac addresses?
I'd rather not have to hardcode the firewall's MAC addresses on each switchport because I could see this causing problems for us down the road. Is there anything else that can be done?
I have 3 computers on my network. The main computer is protected by mcafee. The other computers can not access the public folder on this computer. I am trying to get SNMP info from the router to H2 but snmpwalk errors with no response from router. I can get info from H1 and neither interface on router is preventing SNMP traffic from coming or going.Is there something that needs to be configured to allow SNMP traffic (orginating from INSIDE) to reply? (Also note that there is no Inspect Maps blocking and SNMP versions).
I have a Linksys WRT610N wireless system with WPA-PSK security and this works fine with several computers but now one computer detects the wireless security as WEP and can thus not connect to the router. I have tried to manually connect to the router with correct security WPA-Personal (TKIP) and correct password but then the computer says "settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network".How can I get the computer to detect the correct security? The computer is running Windows 7 home premium.

View 0 Replies View Relatedi am using windows vista on my laptop.i was using zone alarm firewall, but switched it to windows firewall.after switching, my internet was cutoff. i can see that i am connected to my network, but cant get to internet.when i run diagnosis on my laptop, it gives me three options:
my Ethernet driver is having hardware issue.
my wireless driver is having hardware issue.
ip protocol binding is having issue. check ipv4 and ipv6 settings.
Comcast service went down in our neighborhood and when it came back up my internet was down and all five LED lights on my Linksys router are solid green. Tech support tells me that I have to reset the unit to get it to function again.It's been a very long time since I set up the home network and while I'm pretty sure I can make my way through setting up from scratch (I'm assuming resetting goes back to factory settings) I was hoping there was a way to reconnect the router to the modem while retaining all the current security and settings.

I don't want either of us to be able to view or share files, folders, etc. I think I've done everything on my end: turned off Network Discovery; turned off file and printer sharing; turned off Public Folder sharing. Also turned off automatic file/printer sharing in Norton firewall.

2) what does room mate have to do on his computer (if anything)?

I set up virtual servers for PPTP and L2TP and could usually get the first attempt to work. Subsequent client connections would always fail.The logs display the following-Dropped GRE packet from 192.168.0.10 to 64.232.xxx.xxx as unable handle packet header. Blocked incoming GRE packet from 64.232.xxx.xxx to 76.105.xxx.xxx.What seemed to fix it was going to Firewall Settings and setting UDP Endpoint Filtering to Endpoint Independent and TCP Endpoint Filtering to Address Restricted.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've got an RVS4000 router with the latest firmware - V2.0.0.3, and just setup Dynamic DNS on it. However as I access the url of the Dynamic DNS, I get pointed to the routers web backend/GUI, which is natural as it's situated on port 80 of the router.
To prevent the whole interwebs from accessing my router's settings, I've quickly forwarded port 80 to a non-existent IP on my LAN. However this solution feels a bit fragile, so how can I ensure that only computers from inside my LAN can access the routers GUI?
This is just a tip that we used on our controllers that I wanted to pass along. We were having issues with unwanted access points associating to our controllers. We had a stack of older 1242s that came up missing and hit our network. On way we came up with to prevent this was to number all of our wlans above I'd # 16 on the controller. By default the default ap group allows all wlans from 1 to 16. By starting with 17 we are not allowing any SSIDs in the default group. All if our production access points are in their own ap groups. Any access point that hits our controllers that has not been configured with the correct ap group name will be in the default ap group and will not be servicing any SSIDs.I know there are other ways to set this up but this was a tricky way for us to set it up and see who calls about there wireless not working.
View 3 Replies View Relatedapparantly there is a bug in WAG160Nv2 firmware (version:V2.00.20 which is the latest). we had problem connecting to an outside smtp server using telnet. then out of frustration i reset the router to factory settings. then suddenly connecting to smtp server on port 25 was not a problem. then a few hours later, without doing any special changes to the settings, it's now again not possible to telnet to external server. apparantly something prevents outbound connections to port 25 to be established

I had entered in a basic config into my switch including passwords, etc. and was checking out different uses of the MODE button including setting the switch into express mode and I somehow managed to wipe the config and send the switch back into a default state by holding the mode button in for too long.
I want to prevent this from happening once the switch it is in production.

I just got a new laptop, and for the most part have left its settings alone. Today I was trying to get some sharing going between my desktop and the laptop. Both machines are connected to the same wireless network and both machines consider that network to be a Home network. Both are running Win7 Home Premium. It seems like my laptop is aware of my desktop on the network. It can ping it by IP or by computer name. When I go to Network from the laptop, I can see the desktop in the list of computers. However, my desktop cannot ping the laptop, nor can it see it within Network. My desktop has a Homegroup set up, but my laptop says "There is currently no homegroup on the network". I do have network discovery turned on for both machines. Why can my desktop not "talk" to my laptop but it works the other way around?
Update: Disabling the Windows Firewall on the laptop somewhat fixes the problem. With it disabled, my desktop can ping my laptop, but still my laptop can't see the homegroup. Also, it can ping via hostname, which resolves to IPv6, but can't ping via the IPv4 address. Obviously I'd rather not leave my firewall disabled, so I need a more specific fix.
Update 2: Aha! It is the Cisco VPN software I was running to connect to work computers. Once I disconnected and exited from that, the two PCs seemed to be talking normally and the homegroup was visible to the laptop. So now my question has morphed: how can I prevent Cisco VPN from interrupting my home networking?
I have a remote site that is using port 4500 for within the isakmp phase of creating a IPSEC tunnel, but for some reason it is also using random port numbers constantly (in bold): [code] These are all blocked by the firewall when trying to communicate with our central router in the trusted network. The central router does not display the same symptoms, it only uses port 4500.Is there a way of preventing the remote router from using random port numbers and only allowed to use 4500??
