When I look in device manager, there is a yellow question mark next to Ethernet Controller (along with some other devices). I have identified that I have a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet Controller (don't know the term for exactly what I am looking to find drivers for, is it just the "ethernet chip"? or "ethernet controller?"). It is a BCM5754 (VEN_14E4 DEV_167A). I am running Windows XP home sp3, which I updated to from sp1 via USB. How do I install drivers to get onto the internet?

I've had to do this before, and we had an outside guy come in. He took two seconds in the cmd prompt and fixed it. I've reinstalled all the drivers and I did a network diagnostic. View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a compaq presario v2000 that i just installed windows 7 hope premium on (did a full hdd wipe, and reinstall windows)Windows 7 wireless connection manager can see all available wifi connections, but will not connect to any of them.Ive tried this on WPA2 networks, unsecured networks at several places (my office, wendy's, mcdonald's, my home, etc) i dont think it's the internal wifi card, as I could connect to those networks ok before the wipe/reload.I'm thinking it's a driver issue, but it's using the WHCL driver dated 2009 that is included in Windows 7, and I've not been able to find a more up-to-date one.device manager shows Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN, but not exact model number.Compaq support site has drivers for XP & Vista only, and the Vista driver page doesn't include wifi card drivers.

I booted up, noticed that my internet connection would go from the red x to the swirly blue to say it was connecting, but back to the red x. I installed drivers from my MB CD just to get them on there, and I installed the LAN drivers that came with it. No luck.I go to Device Manager and see that it has my reltek LAN ethernet driver in there, NIC(NDIS 6.2) #3 So, then I checked the cable, I assumed this wasn't the issue, but just double checked. It worked in this laptop I'm using now. Then, I tried to window trouble shoot it. IT says a network cable is not properly plugged int(false, i tested the cable)It then says, Local Area Connection 2 doesn't' have a valid IP configuration.I went into CMD and typed /ipconfig release and renew I would get No operation can be performed on local area connection 2 while its has its media disconnected and An error occurred while renewing interfaces local area connection 2 : The operation was cancel by the used.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently built a new computer and everything seemed to be fine but won't let me go onto the internet...I'm using an ethernet cable from the computer to the modem/router (a Netgear DGNB2100). The little tray icon next to the clock says I have "Internet access" but Internet Explorer won't load any web pages (it stays on "Website found. Waiting for reply..." or "Waiting for..." etc) and when I search for updates from Windows Updates it would just keep searching give me some error saying there are connection problems.I've tried everything I can find on the internet, like:-using the windows troubleshoot/diagnostics (which comes up with nothing)-made sure it is obtaining IP address and DNS server address automatically-made sure Internet Explorer is not using a proxy-reset the Internet Explorer setting-disable windows firewall-disable and re-enable the connection-power cycle the modem/restart the computer-reset winsock and TCP/IP-uninstall/reinstall drivers (drivers are up to date as well)none of them seem to change anything and maybe other things which I forgot

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have just rebuilt our lms 4 server onto a newly built serve 2k8r2, from our old 2003 box.
The software is installed, and setup, however I cannot get it to add any devices to the inventory. Every device it trys to talk to is classed as unreachable.
I can telnet into each switches from the server, however the LMS software for some reason cant speak.

View 1 Replies View RelatedComputer got bad virus (the FBI one on the news) so after every attempt to eradicate it failed, I did a fresh install of Windows 7 onto the computer. However for some reason it won't even acknowledge that it has a Network Adapter. When I go to Driver Devices, there is no Network Adapter to even click on to see what the adapter is so I know what kind of driver to install.
So being an optimist I installed several drivers and nothing has worked. Its set on cable connection and I can't get it to acknowledge its wi-fi. I haven't tried plugging it straight into the modem yet. That's my next step.
I have a Dell XPS 8300 desktop. The desktop recently got a virus which caused me to completely reformat the computer. I thought the PC came with a drivers CD but either it did not or I cannot find one. Now that I installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 it will not connect to the internet. I have tried downloading all network drivers, bios drivers and making sure BIOS is enabled but still I am unable to connect to the internet.
What can I do to fix this problem or is there any place that I can purchase the actual drivers CD for my PC so that this does not happen again? I have gone to the drivers and downloads page, put my tag number in and literally downloaded every single driver listed and still it is giving me the "no connection detected" error.
i am experiencing some sort of issue with my Ethernet Controller. About an hour ago i had run a diagnostic report, (using my Norton 360 security program) while i scrolled down the report i came across an orange attention bubble that read "Inoperable Hardware Devices" then a chart lists hardware devices that aren't working, it looked like this:

i tried to update the device but it doesn't work, it says that "windows was unable to install Ethernet Controller, ...Windows could not find driver software for your device"
Basically my desktop computer no longer connects to the internet, and I'll try to describe the problem to you all to the best of my ability.I ran ipconfig /all and it is attached.The problem first started a few weeks back and I haven't been able to get around to it due to school. When trying to connect to my router it will connect with limited connectivity (in other words, at the bottom right of the screen when you check the SSID you're connected to, it will show the signal strength, but it also has a yellow exclamation mark indicating it has no connectivity. When I ran the built-in troubleshooter on it, I received multiple things:
- sometimes: "windows could not automatically detect this network proxy settings"
- sometimes: "no errors detected"
Of course I would've done a system restore long ago,however initially I thought the problem was the adapter so I kept re-installing the drivers, I even went to buy other network adapters to make sure my adapter wasn't the one that was defective (I have an ASUS adapter, the other adapters I've tried were D-Link, and Netgear which is also the brand of my router which is very old). Because of all these installs/uninstalls, the old system restores I had were gone. I have Windows 7 64 bit, I'm using wireless connectivity and cannot try ethernet cable due to the immobility of my desktop and problems it would generate around the house. I've attempted to change the IP address of my network properties of ivp4 to defaults, change the DNS server, check my DHCP, check my services, check my registry, and many other things found on the internet (including resetting with netsh)
Earlier today I re installed windows XP. Before reinstall my net was working fine. And now it won't connect.I tried to use the installation disc that came with the modem, and partway through the install/set up it says that it cannot find my Gateway.
ipconfig shows " windows up configuration"
And when search the dev managers, network addapters is not in the list.
For the past month or two I have been having some problems connecting to the internet on my computer of 6 years everything works fine its running windows 7 and I have no problems but now every time I turn my computer on the first application to connect to the internet is the only one that can connect. If I open a browser it connects but nothing else will and if I close it I have to restart in order to get a connection again.

The wireless icon on the bottom had either 1 bar, a caution sign with an exclamation point, or some sun icon. Either way, I could not get to my websites. I don't know why my computer cannot connect to the Internet because my iPad can connect perfectly well as I'm on it right now posting this thread. This is the first time it has happened. A few weeks ago my Internet started getting slower and slower. When it was usually an average of 3 bars, it went down to 2 and stayed that way. I was still able to get to my websites back then however the change in speed was noticeable. Now, it is neither 2 bars nor 3 but 0. y computer because my desktop is upstairs whereas my router is downstairs. With all the cables and such I would just end up messing it up or something. What could I do to fix this problem, it's been like this all day. Is it possible a virus is causing this problem?

I first tried to install by loading the CD, which went so far as the "Insert your adapter into a USB port" screen. The Windows "processing" circle spun for about twenty minutes, then I was prompted to "insert the wireless adapter" once more. Rinse, repeat. I absolutely cannot get past this step. I scoured the web for an answer and turned up little. I uninstalled my antivirus and firewall software, made certain that files associated with my prior adapter were removed, tried varying USB ports (all 2.0) on my desktop, and had no success. Today, I exchanged the adapter for a replacement, and I'm encountering all of the same difficulties.

I downloaded the drivers from the dell website (for vista 32bit), but when I try to install it says "Press Fn+F2 or turn on the wireless switch". The wireless switch is already on, and I press Fn+F2, but to no avail. It worked fine on Vista Home Premium 32bit. I tried running the install file in compatibility mode too, to no avail. how to make it work?

Everytime I try it seems like I connected (the little blue globe symbol displays) but when I try and go to a webpage, the connection times out or moves slow. When I run diagnose and repair it tells me that this computer has "limited or no connectivity" even though I'm able to connect to other networks. Selecting the "automatically get new IP settings" and "reset network adapter" options don't work. After selecting these earlier it was telling me "unable to connect to primary DNS server", then it was telling me "windows has confirmed this computer is currently experiencing a network connectivity problem". Now it's telling me there is no problem in spite of the slow connection.
I don't think my wireless adapter is the issue, I'm able to connect to other networks fine. I don't think the router/modem is the issue, there's another computer in the house (that I don't own) as well as my xbox hooked up wireless to it with no problem.
I am having trouble connecting to the internet in Windows Vista Sp2. I have looked in device manager for any type of ethernet device, and I don't see one. I do not have a wireless adapter installed, but when I plug in an Ethernet cord I don't see any type of bubble saying I have new connections. I don't Even have the icon that should say local area connection in network connections

It uses a dial-up connection, but I don't have a phone line anymore so I've been trying to find another way to connect it to the internet. I've tried connecting it to the internet by connecting it to my Linksys wireless broadband router but that doesn't do anything. I also have a wireless notebook adapter that I've also tried to use but the driver needs to be reinstalled or updated and I don't know how to do that. I used the internet for about a minute then my internet disconnected and was unusable. I opened my desktop computer to see whats wrong but the connection there also stopped. The chat support person finally dropped out of the chat and the router remains in an unusable state.I currently had to cable wired connection of laptop to get an internet connection.
I just reinstalled XP on my Dell inspiron 1100. Everything works good expect I can't connect wireless to the internet. I use my Ethernet cable and everything works great. The wireless setting say's I'm connected with excellent strength, also I have an IP address. I went to disk management and check for conflicts and noticed the PCI modem was yellow. I was told to disable it because I don't use a modem so it should not be a problem.
