Thomson THG520 Modem Does Not Give IP Address On Both Links

Apr 14, 2011

My ISP gave me a Thomson THG520 modem when I subscribed to their service. It has 2 links and USB and an Ethernet link. It worked fine with our 2 computers but for several weeks or so I experiencing that it only gives me IP address only on one interface that one that's first plugged into the computer.

If I reset the modem and plug in the USB I get an IP address immediately. If I unplug the USB and plug in the Ethernet cable I don't get an IP address. If I reset again the modem and plug in the Ethernet cable I get an IP address but not on the USB link after I unplug the modem.

EDIT: after entering the modem's administration I realized it's firmware was updated (probably my ISP did it.). Also I read about how this stuff works, there is an evidence that my ISP set the CPE limit to 1. (so it seem only one computer connected to the modem can get IP address while the other can't.). And this configuration is stored on the modem somewhere. Is there a way to view it somehow?

Cisco Wireless :: 1140 - One SSID In AP Don't Give IP Address To Users

May 8, 2013

I have an AP Aironet  1140 that have two (2) SSID: (ZDE) and (GUEST).  Guest is working fine but ZDE is not giving IP addresses to users attached in this AP.  I atached the sh tech of the Ap. From the configuration cisco guide of Aironet 1140 i understand that by default, access points are configured to receive IP settings from a DHCP server on your network. But i don´t know if i have to configure the dhcp server ip addres in the Ap, similar to the ip helper address in switches

Configuring the Access Point to Provide DHCP Service. These sections describe how to configure the wireless device to act as a DHCP server:

•Setting up the DHCP Server, page 5-22
•Monitoring and Maintaining the DHCP Server Access Point, page 5-24
•Setting up the DHCP Server

By default, access points are configured to receive IP settings from a DHCP server on your network. You can also configure an access point to act as a DHCP server to assign IP settings to devices on both your wired and wireless LANs.

The 1100 series access point becomes a mini-DHCP server by default when it is configured with factory default settings and it cannot receive IP settings from a DHCP server. As a mini-DHCP server, the 1100 series access point provides up to 20 IP addresses between 10.0.0.11 and 10.0.0.30 to a PC connected to its Ethernet port and to wireless client devices configured to use no SSID, and with all security settings disabled. The mini-DHCP server feature is disabled automatically when you assign a static IP address to the 1100 series access point. Because it has a console port to simplify initial setup, the 1200 series access point does not become a DHCP server automatically.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Won't Give DHCP Address To Linux Boxes?

Sep 25, 2011

I've got threeLinux Boxes (running Centos 6).  They were all connected to my cheap WRT54GL--  DHCP worked every time.Absolutely no problems.  Both the LInux boxes and the WRT54GL had MTU set to manual, 1492.I replaced the WRTt54GL with the expensive E4200.  I set the new router's MTU to manual, 1492.  NONE of my Linux boxes ever receive a DHCP address.  I look at the logs, and they do DHCPDISCOVER, get DHCPNACK, try several different intervals, and then fail the interface and quit.ALL I did was unhook cables from the WRT54GL and plug into the E4200.  Yes, the WRT54GL was powered off.   NOTHING was changed in the Linux configs.  Yes, DHCP is enabled, address-range assigned, etc.  BTW--  one box is dual boot with Win7-- in Win7 (using the same card, obviously), DHCP works just fine.  But, Linux doesn't work.

I can give the boxes static IP's, and all is well.  Just can't get DHCP to work.  I evfen tried putting in DHCP reservations (via MAC assignments)  for the E4200-- still doesn't work. The new E4200 is on the 02 firmware (which I believe is cuurent). If I can't iron this simple task out, in a couple of days I'm taking the E4200 back, and getting a refund.  I'll stay with my old WRT54GL... it works.  Hate to give up on some of the new E4200 features, though.

D-Link DIR-655 :: WAN Gateway Ip Address Must Be Within The WAN Subnet

Aug 5, 2011

I am on a University campus and they have provided the following to connect to the internet along with DNS server addresses:

IP Address: 192.168.25.24
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.254.1

When I connect my computer, it gives an error that the IP address and subnet mismatch, but it still connects to the internet just fine. However, if I try to put these settings into the DIR-655 along with my computer's MAC address, it gives me the error "WAN gateway IP address 192.168.25.24 must be within the WAN subnet" and requires I change it.

Servers :: Default Gateway / IP And DNS Address For Client PC?

May 29, 2012

Client is having 1 file server running small business windows server 2003. Server is not configured with domain, it is working only on workgroup. We have around 15 users who are using that server as file server only. Now my main question is do i need to configure DNS server in that server?we also have internet connection running (have problem in that also, will explain next time) with wireless router to connected with switch. So do I need to setup dns in server also or just put static ip (I prefer static then dhcp) & dns server from ip will be ok? If I put dns which I got from ISP, so will it create any problem with using those file from server?the second question is..

What IP address, Default gateway and dns address I should use for Server & also client pc.
router ip - 192.168.1.1
server ip - 192.168.1.10
Currently no DNS setupcurrent configuration - Server

Wifi Router Not Assigning Ip Address Or Default Gateway?

Oct 25, 2012

hrome threw me a DNS lookup failed. I go into my network settings and I noticed that I had limited connectivity. It would switch between no network access and no internet access every few seconds. After a bit of fiddling around, I got it to connect through assigning myself a static IP. This isn't exactly convenient because I use this computer on multiple networks. When I try to have it on automatic IP, I get no IP address or default gateway when I do an ipconfig /all. It would appear that my router quit assigning my laptop an IP for no reason whatsoever. DHCP is enabled on the router, and all other devices work fine. What could possibly be the problem here? I'm 99% sure it's not an IP conflict either. It's not being MAC filtered because I'm on the thing right now posting this through a static IP. It's not my A/V because it's worked great in the past. Perhaps I should also mention it occasionally says "unidentified network" instead of the SSID

Cisco Firewall :: 3560X Gateway Address For All Of Current Devices

Jul 18, 2011

I have an AT&T Router that is my gateway to the internet, I have no access to it.  I do have the inside ip address of it which is on my private LAN.  Just for shiggles we will call it 10.25.240.1 255.255.248.0.  That is my  gateway address for all of my current devices.I have this shiny new ASA that I want to throw in there to eliminate a proventia and a sidewinder.

The diagram shows two stacks, these are my virtual server clusters with 3560X switches with the vlans configured, and several more switches all configured with vlan 832,  connected to a 2950, which is connected to my internal 2600 router.  I have 4 Vlans running on 4 different ip ranges, all controlled by the internal router, with only one vlan, let's say 832 that is trunked to the outside world.  That vlan has 172.16.1.x 255.255.0.0 network attached to it.  All is well, and traffic is routing behind the internal router, but I cannot seem to figure out how to get the traffic to pass thru the ASA. Linksys Wireless Router :: Cisco E2500 - Using Gateway Address As Browsing IP For Connected Computers

Jan 31, 2013

Everything in our small network worked until today when I had to manually reset the router. We run a application through a provider which requires that we view it from the same IP address for access.  We have a statis IP assigned by our ISP solely for this purpose.  For simplicity, lets us 23.11.23.176 as the statis assigned by our ISP and 23.11.23.175 as the gateway also assigned by our ISP. The application we need to browse requires that we use the 23.11.23.175 address else it is blocked from viewing.  When we hard line into the modem, we are able to browse it fine.  When I connect the CISCO router and do it wirelessly, it shows our address as 23.11.23.176 what are the required steps in order to set the CISCO router to use the Gateway address as the browsing IP for computers connected to it.  We had set it up about a year ago, and i completely forgot how.

Cisco Routers :: RV082 Gateway To Gateway VPN Not Resolving Remote DynDns

Feb 14, 2013

I've got two RV082's connected. Each has a dynamic IP (changes typically every few weeks). I've configured the tunnels on both ends with a local and remote "Remote/Local Security Gateway Type" of "Dynamic IP + Domain Name(FQDN) Authentication".If I look at the VPN Summary tunnel status, it shows an IP address of "mydomain.dyndns.org 0.0.0.0" under the "Remote Gateway" column heading. The Tunnel Test "Connect" button is N/A.I can resolve both of the mydomain.dyndns.org entries on both sides of each VPN using the Diagnostic DNS lookup tool within each router. If I hardwire a fixed IP address for the Local and Remote Gateway everything works just fine. VPN is good.

I just can't seem to get the "mydomain.dyndns.org" function to work. It appears the router can't resolve the dynamic IP from the domain names on each of the routers.

Cisco Routers :: RV220W Gateway-to-Gateway Inter VLAN Routing?

Jul 6, 2012

I picked up a pair of RV220W's and before I spent loads of time at a remote site, I figured I'd go through some VPN testing at home to make sure I could get it setup properly.  What this means is I've plugged the Internet uplink into a switch, then from the switch into both routers & configured them (using unique static IP's for each) from there.  For what its worth: While I have some IT experience, I don't have strong networking experience.

I setup several VLAN's on the local RV220W, and the end result is to make it so that an asset at the remote site with an IP in any of the ranges (192.168.121.0/24, 192.168.131.0/24, 192.168.141.0/24 and any future VLANs) can communicate with/access resouces at the local site.  Likewise, an asset at the local site with an IP in any of the ranges (.121, .131, .141 + any future VLANs) should be able to reach the remote resources (currently just 192.168.181.0/24, but future VLANs as well).

This evening I tried to focus on the relevant VPN pages of the Administration Guide to get the VPN up.  Leaving the defaults I got as far as establishing a link between both sites and it seems that things are working right: From the remote site (.181) I can access the local site (.121, .131, .141); and from the local site I can at least ping resources (a laptop) on the remote site. (Yay!)

However, when I physically connected an asset that had a 192.168.121.X, 192.168.131.X and 192.168.141.X IP addresses to the remote RV220W (which is 192.168.181.0/24), I couldn't see it from the remote or local sites.I assume this is expected.  But I'm reaching out to the community to see what other possibilities might be available becuase networking is a weak area for me.  I figured it might be something like a Static [or Dynamic] Route but I really am not 100% sure.

'TECHNICAL' SPECS
