Linksys Wireless Router :: E1000 / Atheros AR5B93 - Connecting Laptop In N Mode
Feb 8, 2012
I've got an issue with my router. The Linksys E1000.In my opinion it supports the Wireless-N mode, so does my wireless lan card which is the Atheros AR5B93 (also known as the Acer Nplify 802.11 b/g/n). When I connect to the router, it only connects in normal wireles mode, so no b,g or n mode. But when I look at the Client Tabel of the router all other devices connected to the router are in Wireless-G mode. Even my laptop doesn't connect in Wireless-G mode.I want to have my laptop connected in Wireless-N mode. What do I have to do, to make this working?

I have three N-compliant devices and several G-compliant devices on my network. I also have two routers, one being used an an access point. The first is a Linksys WRT350N; the second is a Linksys WRT54G. I have the G router connected as an access point so that I can reserve the N router for the N devices and achieve N speeds.N devices:Toshiba laptop; network adapter is Intel 4965AGN.Toshiba laptop; network adapter is Atheros AR5008XLexmark Wireless printerRouter settings:WRT350N: Security Mode WPA2 Personal; Encryption AES; Network Mode N-only; Radio Band 40MHz.WRT54G: Security Mode WPA Personal; Encryption AES; Network Mode MixedThe best I can recall, I set the WRT54G to WPA Personal instead of WPA2 Personal because one of the G-compliant devices did not list the WPA2 Personal setting -- but this is based on memory only.To reserve the WRT350N for the N devices and achieve N speeds, I set the Wireless Mode to N-only and Radio Band to 40MHz., and each router broadcasts its own unique SSID. Once I set everything up, I saw a substantial increase in the link speed reported by the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor (I realize there are issues about taking these numbers at face value, but let me continue). The Toshiba Connectivity Doctor reported WRT350N link speed at 130 Mbps and everything appeared to be working well.PROBLEMUntil recently, no problems were apparent; the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicated the two laptops connected to the WRT350N at 130 Mbps, the printer connected to and printed via the WRT350N, and all G devices connected through the WRT54G. Recently, however, network performance declined and the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicated erratic link speeds ranging from 1 Mbps to 130 Mbps.I found through a little research that my quest to reserve the WRT350N router for N devices lacked one element: according to Linksys info for the router, setting the N Transmission Rate to anything other than Auto results in denying access to B/G clients.I set the N Transmission Rate to 270 Mbps (the highest setting). The Linksys printer works fine and the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicates a solid 130 Mbps link speed for the Toshiba laptop with the Intel 4965AGN adapter card. The other Toshiba (with the Atheros AR5008X adapter card), however, is now only able to connect to the WRT54G (the Toshiba Connectivity Doctor indicates a solid link speed of 54 Mbps to the G SSID). If I reset the WRT350N N Transmission Rate to Auto, the Toshiba with the Atheros card can once again connect to the N Router -- but the erratic link speeds and the network degradation returns also.I have verified that the Atheros AR5008X network adapter is N-compliant. There aren't many settings on the Atheros AR5008X adapter card configuration, but I can find no documentation on the Internet for this card.As far as I can determine, all firmware is up to date for both routers and all drivers are up to date for both adapter cards.I'd love to know what changed in the first place, but I'm more concerned with fixing this problem. How I can get the Atheros adapter card to connect to the WRT350N with the N Transmission Rate set to something other than Auto?

This is for a E1000 model router.I recently downloaded Cisco Connect. It wants my router name and password. I don't know the password. How can I find the password or change it? The password might still be the default, but "admin" does not work.

why I am only able to connect at 39Mbps (often 5.5Mbps) to my Linksys E1000 Router? Residential. Wood Frame/Stick home construction. No other devices connected to router. <10 feet from E1000 Router. Line of sight (nothing in between router/laptop). New Dell Inspiron DW 1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card.
E1000 Network Mode: Mixed
Channel Width: Auto (20MHz or 40MHz)
Firmware: 2.0.01 build 08
At times I have seen it flash to 52Mbps but immediately drops to 39Mbps or lower (26, 5.5, etc.).Sales prop indicates up to 300Mbps. Where is the other 90% of the connection speed they’re talking about? OR is 39Mbps expected?

I have a Linksys E1000 router just upgrade to the latest 2.1.0.2 firmware...I have a PPPoE connection which used to run smoothly on the router..however off late...suddenly the router stopped connecting..it always shows "connecting" in the status tab of the router page...and eventually says failed to obtain IP address...however when I attach the cable directly into my PC it works just fine.I also had a word with my internet provider...he's kept the MAC open (or something like that) so he said that isn't the issue and he keeps saying there must be some issue with the router. However, occasionally the router DOES connect for half hour or so and then just refuses to connect again !..

I have a Comcast Router pushing out IP's in the 10.1.10.X range. I want to hookup a Linksys E1000 Router so I can use its wireless & Guest access features. The Linksys is using the 192.168.1.x range. I have a cable from the comcast router running into the Internet port of the Linksys. I have tried changing the Linksys router IP to 10.1.10.x and turning off DHCP. It will not allow me to the internet nor allow the PC connected to it to connect to the PC that is attached to the Comcast Router. I cannot replace the Comcast as it is a combi router/modem.

I have had some problems in the last few days regarding my wireless router. i am using a Sony Vaio VGN-NS30E laptop with a TP-Link Wireless N Adsl2+ modem router. ISP = Utility Warehouse. Network Adapter = Atheros AR928X Wireless Adapter.
I can connect via Ethernet, but as soon as i try and use my wireless it comes up with "unable to connect". I also have a Print server running in the other room to allow me to print wireless. I have had all the wireless connections working up until this week (monday).
Called technical support after losing internet connection repeatedly and internet getting slower. ISP know reckons i should be getting up to 11.5mb's per second download, but connecting is the problem now.

I am having a problem with an adapter, but I don't know if it's a router issue, adapter issue or software issue.
Router: E1500
Adapter: WUSB100
OS: Win XP Pro SP3
System: Dell Inspiron 9400
When the laptop has gone into standby and comes back out it is not connected to the internet or the 'secured side' of teh router. Instead, it asks for the 'guest side' password. When I try running Wireless Manager it goes through the entire process of 're-mating' adapter and router. That can't be right. How do I fix this so the system comes out of standby in the 'secured side' of the router?

On an old laptop running Win XP the network card sees the router, but when I enter the correct passcode (16 character) I get a message saying the code must be 13 characters. How can a connect this computer without disabling the other two wireless devices running through the router?

I have a WRT160N v3 at home, it's been working well. I usually only have an old Toshiba Satelite on the network, which runs G IIRC.I had the network setup as open without a password (I don't really have any neighbors nearbye) however when a new computer tries to get on my network, I usually have to hit the 'sync' or w/e button on the router for the computer to get on. I'm happy with that setup, and it seems to have been working fine.

I have just purchased a new EA3500 router and have fairly painlessly managed to get my desktop (running Windows XP), my lap top (running Windows 7), ipads 1 and 2 and blackberry all to connect to the wireless hub. I even have it talking to a WD 1T external hard drive.
BUT try as I might I can't get an old sony vaio running windows 2000 professional to connect to the internet. It talkes to the box and even allows the lap top to hop on as a guest but it goes through to a guest sign on web page and no matter what combination of passwords (i am sure i have the write guest sign on) it just refuses to actually connect. I never had a problem connection to our previous wireles router.

I'm trying to connect my Cisco lab to the internet. I've configured my 2611 to accept DHCP. I can ping the Linksys E1000 router but can't ping the modem on the other side, and cannot get out to the internet with the PC that's connected to the lab. When I look at the DHCP table in the E1000 the 2611 shows up in the table. I can ping all other computers on the lan, just not the modem to get out to the net.I have the configuration for the 2611. Did I miss something. Is the modem blocking ICMP traffic?

I also have a NetGear DGND3300v2 router which I would like to connect to the Thomson (eventually I will purchase a switch and connect another device along with the NetGear). Other devices in my home connect to the network just fine, and the problem laptop has always been fine until now. My network card is an Atheros AR9285, and I'm attempting to connect to a Medialink router with WPA password protection and AES encryption. My wireless network icon in the task bar has a yellow sign with an exclamation point in it. It says "No Internet access."

I own a E1000 router that I use with several wireless machines. Unfortunately, I cannot connect to the configuration of the router by typing url...in a browser, be it wireless or weirdly. For example, Firefox displays "Connection has been reinitialized". Furthermore, when I launch Cisco Connect, it only shows the error "Unable to connect to router". I tried to switch my router off and on, but that doesn't work. Totally resetting the router solves the problem, but not definitely. Is there a solution that does not require resetting my router?

Out of the blue: no wireless connection on any device. I restarted the modem, router, PC's, phones, etc. I've updated the firmware. The only way I can get a wireless connection is to use wep. How can I get the better security and speed of wpa2 back?
