Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 V2 Tested HDDs List
Jan 5, 2012
I'm looking for an updated list of tested and compatible external HDDs that the 4200V2 will support f(media streaming). Any updated list?Clarify that the following references to "WD 1.5 & 2 TD" translate to WD My Book Essential Edition 1.5 & 2 TB as opposed to the WD Elements HDDs? There has to be a better list than the one in FAQs.
The official List of tested USB storage devices for the Linksys E4200 is so short, and the fine print "If your USB storage device is not listed on the table, it is not guaranteed to work with the router" is very discouraging. Let's create the community-based list of tested External Hard Drives for the Linksys E4200? Post here the brand / model of your external hard drive which works well with your E4200. State Firmware version as well. My Toshiba 640GB Canvio® USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (Toshiba P/N e05a064cau2xr, M/N 593400-b), when connected to E4200 Firmware v1.0.03 (Build 14), stops the router's both wired and wireless connection after a couple of hours.
I don't know how many of you read the article List of tested USB storage devices for the Linksys E4200 before buying it. Basically, what it says, is that you cannot connect your "too old" or "too new" (>2TB) HDD to this router and you have to settle with an WD MyBook Mirror Edition 2TB or Seagate FreeAgent Desk 2TB at best. Needless to say that this not good enough. First I believed that the list is incomplete and if a brand is listed with a model then a bigger or a smaller one will work as well. Sadly this is not the case: neither WD Passport with 320 GB (FAT32) nor a LACIE 1TB (NTFS) could be connected to E4200.
If any of you succeeded to pair the router with a different external HDD than the ones from the.
P.S.: I strongly believe that Cisco should work on an updated firmware which should expand the list of supported HDDs.
I have a few desktops in my home network with a new E4200 router. Have to add my wifes Lenovo notebook to the net and activated MAC filtering as addition to the WPA2.Set her MAC address in the filter list. Only one MAC is allowed to access WLAN.An hour later I see in the Filter list four (4) different and unknown MAC adresses added to the list.
We have a WRT610N and are having trouble getting access out to the internet with an FTP client. We are trying to configure Sync2 a program from 4team.biz. It is an MS Outlook application that utilizes FTP servers to host .PST files (outlook data bases) for synchronization. The software has an FTP client built in that can access FTP accounts to store and synchronize the .PST file.
The issue is the WRT610N will not allow this client to connect to our FTP account. We had 4Team’s tech support working on it for a few hours. Ultimately they decided it was my router causing the problem. To demonstrate this to us, they tested ports 80, 21, & 22 utilizing the following websites: url...
All the ports showed either closed or not responding. How do I open these ports so that I can allow Sync2 to communicate with the our FTP account? We are hosting out FTP site at 1and1.com.
So initially brought it home, set it up and fired up connected to the internet perfectly fine with the stick. Then about once every 2/3 days, it would pick up no internet connection despite being next to the router and after 2-3 shut downs in a row would work again. When the connectivity icon was blank, I would go to trouble shoot it and windows 8 wouldn't do anything, not even attempt to detect the problems (bare in mind this PC is brand new).So I leave my home by my University and came back to my parents for Christmas. Lugged my PC back with me and set it up.So first I connected to the wireless no problems, loaded up my favorite forums and after image hovering over about 3 images the 4th would only load the top 3rd of the picture. Open up new tabs "Connecting" until:
A) Server would time out
B) Wireless would DC and then reconnect (before basically repeating the "3 image view")
C) Would work for a few hours (e.g. a streamed film) before screwing up again (rare)
So, reinstalled drivers, replaced the USB wireless stick (802.11n.) AND STILL problems problems problems. I then cleared the IP/TC stacks (I believe they're called) did it through the elevated command prompt and still nothing. So i'm using my sister's laptop to write this as my internet on my PC barely runs long enough for me to be able to check this page or download the program mentioned in the sticky.

I am wondering if it is worth switching to OpenWRT firmware for my TL-WR841N V8.0 ..Has anyone successfully switched to OpenWRT Attitude Adjustment Release (12.09) ? If so are you happy with the features and stability provided ? I checked for the Gargoyle firmware, and t seems there are still some issues with TL-WR841N release 8.0 ... Therefore I am not considering this alternative firmware for now.
I have an EA4500 and am using Cisco Connect Cloud software. Its working mostly fine except that I have one device on the network that will not show up in the device list. This is not an issue in itself and normally I would ignore (although it used to show up when I forst got the router) however..
The device is a WDTVLive media unit and required access to windows shares on a media server. Now the WDTVLive device is server an ip address by the router and is available from everywhere on my network but every couple of days it loses the capacity to search windows shares.
I know what you are thinking and I initially thought the same, this is an issue with the WDTVLive box. However one day I spent a few hours trying to resolve (Am an IT Consultant and know a little about networks) and found that I could not fix the issue. I then rebooted the router and it started working. I have since confirmed that every time it breaks I have to reboot the router.
I have an EA6500 and have three AppleTV... all three generations.l I also have a DirecTV Genie and DirecTV HD-DVR that, together, provide whole-house viewing. When I first setup the EA6400 based network, all three AppleTVs were listed and my whole-house viewing worked. This past Saturday, however, that changed, when I couldn't see the programs recorded on the HD-DVR, from the Genie. My troubleshooting determined one of the AppleTVs had been assigned the same address as the HD-DVR upstairs and that the HD-DVR wasn't listed as being connected. Once I reset everything, the IPs resolved and the whole-house viewing was resolved, however, none of the AppleTVs are listed as connected, even though they are. I can check the connections by the AppleTV device and see that they do, indeed, have an IP address, and I can view material from the iTunes cloud or stored on another PC in the local network. I reset everything again, but to no avail. No AppleTV devies show as connected from Smart Wi-Fi. The AppeTVs are all wired to the LAN... not wireless.
So, the question is, is there a fix to get AppleTV devices to list? All of my devices and router have the lastest firmware. BTW, I had a WRT610N, which I'm now useing as an access point, didn't have this issue.
Why is my WRT54g router only showing the 1st LED port is lit, and not the rest when I have changed or added a device to the 2nd,3rd,4th port? It is also stopping my ability to stream, view youtube etc. When I disconnect the router from my cable provided modem, everything works fine?
I picked up an E1200 and set it up successfully. I am using wireless MAC filtering, and decided to pull up the list of connected wireless clients (Wireless >> Wireless MAC Filter >> push "Wireless Client List" button).Immediately after this the Web UI of the E1200 becomes inaccessible. It still routes traffic, and the router remains pingable, but it will not allow access to the Web UI for several minutes. The error that appears upon attempt to access the Web UI during this time window is similar to the above, but reads "Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): The server refused the connection."
I have tried this in Google Chrome, Firefox 4, and MSIE on two separate computers. Each browser displays the error a bit differently (MSIE, for example, just says it can't display the page and gives no further detail) but the net results are always the same. I have tried resetting the device to factory defaults in addition to re-downloading the firmware from the Cisco/Linksys website and installing it. No improvement.
I have also noted that the Log (Administration >> Log; and yes, I have it enabled) doesn't appear to be picking up anything at all. In fact, the Security log, which supposedly (according to the Help) "displays the login information for the Router’s browser-based utility," is also blank.
I am having a setup problem with the RE1000. When I plug it in, my laptop is able to see it, and I'm able to access it and attempt to set it up. However, once I tell it how to connect to my main wireless router, and it attempts to log onto my wireless network, the RE1000 disappears from my list of networks. My blu-ray player also cannot see it.
I have a cisco EA2700. How to clear the connected devices list?I want to use the parental controls, but when I look at the list it shows every device that was ever connected to my wireless.
I could get a list of clients on the E3200 wireless (or wired) ports. I have my E3200 setup as a WAP LAN-LAN off a switch and it is not the DHCP server on the network. I can see a list of MACs on the client list, but no client names and no IP addresses. They are definitely named and show up on the WRT54GL (DHCP and NAT) as devices
I have the WRT160N router for 3.5 yrs and it's worked perfectly since installing it. About two weeks ago it began intermittently dropping cable connection. First few times I thought I could resolve it by unplugging/plugging router & modem so they can "re-syn" to the cable connection. That still works but now it occurs sometimes multiple times within a few minutes/hours and then won't happen again for an entire day/days. The other day I had connectivity but instead of the usual 5 bars I only had 3 while using my laptop in the same spot in the house as usual.
I have purchased E2500 and i am having following problems:
1. DHCP client list not showing - only shows when i reboot the router. After some time, the list never shows even when i press refresh button 2. I can only reserve IP when i reboot the router - after some time i cannot do this action also
I have upgraded to latest firmware and also peformed reset as directed by support.
I'm trying to limit my kids' access to the internet during the night, since I caught them plugging their laptops and the Xbox into the router's Ethernet ports late at night so they could circumvent the wireless guest access. The problem is, I only have 5 available control slots and the list of devices I browse to choose from is vague at best. Half of the devices listed in parental controls say "Network Device" and the other half say "iPhone" or "iPad". Isn't there an easy way to choose the correct devices to restrict, like by IP or MAC address? And if not, why is this so confusing and difficult? I have a family of 10 in my house and everyone is connecting with their own phn or 3 iPads, 2 laptops, 2 desktop PCs, 1 Xbox and 1 PS3.I tried limiting the DHCP Reservation list, but that seems to only affect the wireless access, not the 4 ethernet port connections.
Since a couple of weeks I have a linksys EA6500. When I go to the device list to see which devices are online the device list is not displayig the correct data. I see devices online that are offline and also devices are offline that are at the moment online. When I try to delete a device that is offline in the list I get error 2315. I have that error in the local and cloud interface. The list has a frozen state from a particular moment.
When I reboot the router then all devices in the list have status offline and the device list stays that way. Nothing gets online anymore or will be added. When I reset the router to factory default all keeps working without problems for approximately 24 hours and after that the problem occurs again. The list freezes again and you are not able to delete a device.
I searched the forums but no one has this problem. I only can find a post that describes my problem but for them a reset worked. In my case a factory reset works also but the problem keeps coming back.
I have the Linksys EA6500 with the latest firmware and have a question regarding the device list connection status.Currently, I am seeing devices in the list that have a connection status of live, but they are not even within my home network. What is the update/cycle time for the device list actually checking connection status of a device? In my situation, it has been 3 days (72 hours) since the two device showing as connected have not been connected to my home network/router. Noticed that this inaccurate connection status for these devices is also contributing to the Device Monitr app not showing correct device connection status info.
Would like to have real-time device connection status if possible. This device list is great way to know when device get connected or disconnected which let me know when my kids get home from school or using game console when should be doing homework.
I've recently purchased a Linksys EA4500 router. I've got home, I've used the installation guide CD thingy, connected 3 of my laptops wirelessly, no issue there. However when I tried to connect my 4th laptop problems came along. The problem I was dealing with was that I couldn't connect to the router. I mean I could see the network name appearing in the list, but when I tried to connect the network would just dissapear from the list, not connect, and wouldn't back on the list unless I've reset the laptop. Anyhow I've ignored that computer because I thought it was two years old and it might have had a wireless network adaptor issue, although it was conneting with no problem to my former router D-Link DIR 365.Anyway, just yesterday I've purchesed a brand new netbook (Evolio U9) and it doesn't see my router, although it sees all the other connection availables (my neighbors' wirless networks), I even connected to one of them just to test if anything was wrong with the netbook.
I also have problems when trying to connect with an Iphone 4. Well, it does connect, but the connection to the iphone just goes on and off making it impossible to use. It's really strange that all the 3 Iphones in my home have no issue connecting, not even my Glaxy S3, nor any of the Smart Tvs, nor the printer.Does the router have any number of limited connections available? The router configuration is the ones done from the CD. I've only assign a SSID and a WPA password. Please note that all the computers above are GENIUNE Windows
I just acquired a used E2100 from an auction, when I plug it in I see an "Unnamed Network" with full bars in wireless, but can't connect since I don't know the ssid/password.When connecting with cable, with ipconfig I get a 10.10.10.108 ip, the gateway is at 10.10.10.99. Yet I also cannot access it.I have tried the reset button at the bottom, holding it for over a minute, pressing it quickly, holding it for 30 seconds, holding it and unplugging + replugging the router, but nothing is working.I have also tried the CD that comes with it with cable and with wifi only, but it does not find the router. I have deleted my default wireless network settings, had my wifi on, was not connected to any networks, yet the CD could not find the router. When router is on, the WIFI led blinks around once a second, while the LAN led blinks randomly like it should.
The smart wi-fi app Device List indicates Local Network = 0 (that's incorrect) and Guest Network = 0 (that's correct). When i click Connected Devices for My Network, i see a list of devices but everything indicates 'Offline' and that of course is incorrect. How can i upgrade this software? I recently installed EA6500 and due to being slow, it was recommended to set back to factory default. That process did no go well, so i hope it is not necessary again. This router is not any better then the wrt320N so i am disappointed.
I just upgraded from an old Dlink D624 to a Linksys E1200. It seems to be working OK.
I have 2 problems and 1 question.
Question. The Dlink required that I enter the MAC for all devices, wireless and hardwired, to access in protected mode. The E1200 doesn't seem to want or display any hardwired devices. Does that mean that any hardwired device gets unfettered access to the internet?
Problem #1. I entered real names when I setup any wireless devices. They do not appear anywhere, and especially not in the permitted MAC list.
Problem #2. I have a wireless printer (HP 3000) connected. It works OK on WIFI from the PC, but now not from my HP Touchpad, which doesn't see the printer. Does WIFI printing go through the router first?
I've got an E4200v1 running 1.0.04 firmware with guest access enabled. I'd like to find out who is logged in using the guest access. Is there a way to get a list of the DHCP clients on the guest network? I'm able to do this for the non-guest access via the WEB interface's Status->Local Network->DHCP Clients Table page. But I can't find a similar table for the guest network.
I recently upgraded my Wi-Fi router to an EA3500 and am controlling it using Smart Wi-Fi running on a wired Windows 7 machine. So far, I have been able to add devices to the network without issue and each of those connections works fine. All, except my TV, have been Windows 7 based machines. Smart Wi-Fi Device List has been able to "see" each device and I have been able to add them to that list as well.
I am attempting to add a Windows 8 desktop computer to the network which is using a external USB wireless adapter. That computer can see and connect to the network through the EA3500 and the connection seems to work fine. The only issue is that its adapter does not show up in the Device List.
1) Does the Device List do anything else besides showing a list of devices I chosen to add to my network?
2) How do I get my Windows 8 wireless adapter to show up in the Device List?
Where can I find a log or list of devices that attempted to access my EA4500 wireless network?I am using the cloud services to monitor my EA4500 usage in an apartment environment.
I recently ran a couple of speed tests to see how fast my internet was, the average reading was about 1.1Mbps, yet the most I've seenmy downloads downloading at is 180Kbps. I am connected wirelessly.
I have a recurring issue with my e4200v1. My wired and wireless connections work fine, but I can't get to the administration website. I have https only set up, and after I get thru the 'certificate error' screen, I get an error that says web page is unavailable. Firfefox tells me that the connection was lost - error 101.I have tried wired and wireless, multiple computers, multiple browsers. I even turned the firewall off on one computer (or I think I did anyway). The only way I know how to fix it is by completely resetting then setting up the router all over again.
Upgraded from WRT610N to E4200. Since upgrading to latest firmware the wan just disappears both 5 and 2.5 Ghz bands. Happened with older firmware but not as often. Using it in briged mode. When this happens I can't even get to the management page with a lan connected pc. Have to do a hard reboot to get it to respond again. This is unacceptable for a router at this price point.
