Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 V2 Tested HDDs List

Jan 5, 2012

I'm looking for an updated list of tested and compatible external HDDs that the 4200V2 will support f(media streaming).  Any updated list?Clarify that the following references to "WD 1.5 & 2 TD" translate to WD My Book Essential Edition 1.5 & 2 TB as opposed to the WD Elements HDDs? There has to be a better list than the one in FAQs.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Wireless Configuration 857W Router

Sep 23, 2012

my trouble is I have a cisco 857w and I have never configured a wireless config for a cisco router before. Ok so i have had a go through the web interface (i know, last resort) and still no joy

Basically what im looking for is to have a visible (broadcast ssid) network with a password (WEP/WPA/WPA2, not picky) and it to be joined to the same vlan as the ethernet ports (VLAN 1).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Unable To Disable Debugging 857w Router

Jun 25, 2012

I have an issue with a Cisco 857w.  When I connect on via SDM I get a message saying "SDM has detected enabled debugs on the router.  Because debugs degrade the performance of the router and of SDM, it is recommended that they be disabled".  I've connected onto the router via telnet and ran the show debug command which indicates that dot11 debugging is on and when I run the command no debugging all it turns it off.  I then do a copy run start and reboot the router and it comes back on.  how I permanently disable it?

Config term

Logging on

Logging source-interface BVI1

Logging Facility Local7 (or any other facility you want to allocate for this router.)

Logging [IP Address or Hostname of machine running Kiwi Syslog Server]

End

I see noting on the syslog server. Although I can see the log information on the router Also is there a command to stop the logging from generating or is this on by default.

Cisco WAN :: External Packet Loss From LAN Clients Through 857w

Jun 15, 2011

Internet usage is very slow when initially opening a site from LAN clients. Once  established it is OK.  If I ping a site from an LAN client by either host name or IP  address it takes about 5 seconds, drops the first packet then is fine  after that.  if I ping it again immediately  afterwards it is fine.  But if i wait 2 minutes and try again the problem returns.  So I would conclude that seeing it is the same  whether I use Host name or IP address it is not a DNS issue. Pinging from the router produces no fault at all.  [code] I can ping the router internal and external interface or any internal  ip or hostname from the LAN with no delay or hesitation so it is not  a switch interface or network card problem. Some sort of NAT issue maybe? [Code]

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 List Of Supported USB HDD

Oct 9, 2011

I don't know how many of you read the article List of tested USB storage devices for the Linksys E4200 before buying it. Basically, what it says, is that you cannot connect your "too old" or "too new" (>2TB) HDD to this router and you have to settle with an WD MyBook Mirror Edition 2TB or Seagate FreeAgent Desk 2TB at best. Needless to say that this not good enough. First I believed that the list is incomplete and if a brand is listed with a model then a bigger or a smaller one will work as well. Sadly this is not the case: neither WD Passport with 320 GB (FAT32) nor a LACIE 1TB (NTFS) could be connected to E4200.

If any of you succeeded to pair the router with a different external HDD than the ones from the.

P.S.: I strongly believe that Cisco should work on an updated firmware which should expand the list of supported HDDs.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Can Use 857W As Simple Bridge?

Dec 1, 2012

I need to replace an ADSL modem and have a spare 857W. Can I use this to act as a simple bridge between the ADSL PPPoA connection and the FW WAN port?

[  CISCO 857W  ]
ISP - PPPoA - BRIDGE - FW WAN

I have a block of Public IP's so the PPPoA Dialer 0 connection would get x.x.x.185/29 I would like to bridge this directly to the FW WAN port and set that to x.x.x.185/29 with a gateway of x.x.x.186/32.Currently I am using it in router mode with no NAT or FW and am losing a Public IP as I need to set the FW WAN as x.x.x.186 with a GW of x.x.x.185 I am setting BVI 1 as x.x.x.185/29 and Dialer0 as IP Unnumbered BVI 1.

Linksys Wireless Router :: List Of Tested External Hard Drives For E4200?

Nov 13, 2011

The official List of tested USB storage devices for the Linksys E4200 is so short, and the fine print "If your USB storage device is not listed on the table, it is not guaranteed to work with the router" is very discouraging. Let's create the community-based list of tested External Hard Drives for the Linksys E4200? Post here the brand / model of your external hard drive which works well with your E4200. State Firmware version as well. My Toshiba 640GB Canvio® USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive (Toshiba P/N e05a064cau2xr, M/N 593400-b), when connected to E4200 Firmware v1.0.03 (Build 14), stops the router's both wired and wireless connection after a couple of hours.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA6500 Does Not List AppleTV Devices

Apr 30, 2013

I have an EA6500 and have three AppleTV... all three generations.l  I also have a DirecTV Genie and DirecTV HD-DVR that, together, provide whole-house viewing.  When I first setup the EA6400 based network, all three AppleTVs were listed and my whole-house viewing worked.  This past Saturday, however, that changed, when I couldn't see the programs recorded on the HD-DVR, from the Genie.  My troubleshooting determined one of the AppleTVs had been assigned the same address as the HD-DVR upstairs and that the HD-DVR wasn't listed as being connected.  Once I reset everything, the IPs resolved and the whole-house viewing was resolved, however, none of the AppleTVs are listed as connected, even though they are.  I can check the connections by the AppleTV device and see that they do, indeed, have an IP address, and I can view material from the iTunes cloud or stored on another PC in the local network.  I reset everything again, but to no avail.  No AppleTV devies show as connected from Smart Wi-Fi.  The AppeTVs are all wired to the LAN... not wireless.

So, the question is, is there a fix to get AppleTV devices to list?  All of my devices and router have the lastest firmware.  BTW, I had a WRT610N, which I'm now useing as an access point, didn't have this issue.

It seems that the router will not support two, because they try to access the same port. How can I plug these two storage units to the router and have access for each of us to one device?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 Manage And Configure An External Switch And Router

Apr 3, 2013

1. How I can manage those devices, the Switch and the router? What is the BEST SOLUTION to manage this devices?

2. I want to monitor the traffic on this environment, how I can do it? How I can monitor the traffic from customer A, Customer B, and my own LAN traffic, in terms of bandwidth that has passed throught my devices? Is it possible to monitor on MY LAN, or I have to monitor from the EXTERNAL switch?

3. How I can limit the bandwidth? I was trying to configure it using access list, with policy-map, etc....and limit this on each interface. [code]

The interface does not support the specified policy configuration and/or parameter values.Assigning a policy map to the output side of an interface not supported. With I few reading, I could see that the SWITCH 3750 doesnt support this configs. My INTERNET LINK is 30 Mbps, the ports on the Switch (WS-C3750X-48P-L) are Gigabit Ethernet. How I can limit the bandwidth here? For example, How I can limit a interface to 3Mbps..I was thinking about this:

- Limit the interface to 10Mbps: speed 10

- and limit the interface with 30% of this speed:  srr-queue bandwidth limit 30

Does this work for both UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD?When the packets passes that 3Mbps limitation, will they be droped?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 887 - How To Restrict Devices Connected To 800 Series Router

Jan 30, 2013

I have a Cisco 887M router which I wish to restrict the devices allowed to be connected/allocated an IP address to two, and *only* two.

I can't, for the life of me, find out how to allow these two devices to connect to ANY port - I can configure a MAC restriction on a single port, but I don't know how to make it so that I can allow JUST these two devices to connect to any port in the 4 port switch/VLAN (VLAN 1 is used because the mongrel who set this up was lazy). I know the MAC addresses I want to allow

How I can do this? I *can* restrict any given port to the two MAC addresses - but if I try to add the MAC addresses to another port, they get removed from the initial one. I need to be able to have them connect to ANY port and work, but allow NOTHING else to work.

For those wondering, this is to counter a user who is utilising company resources for purposes not approved - and costing us quite a bit of money in the process.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Policy Routing Or Offset List For ASR1006s

May 23, 2012

I want to send a particular data stream (source-A  destination-B) through only one of two WAN routers to a remote site. The remote site also has two WAN routers. Traffic from source-A will travel through a core and distribution layer of 6500 L3 switches, running 12.2(33)SXH8, to the WAN routers which are two ASR1006s.  The remote end is the same - two ASR1006 WAN routers to 6500 distribution and Core L3 switches.  All 6500s are L3 uplinked to each other and to the WAN routers.  All traffic from the local site to the remote site routes throuh only one of the two WAN routers.  I want to move only traffic from source-A to source-B to the second WAN router to the remote site.

Would it be best to use policy-based routing or an offset list of some sort to accomplish this?  I've done PBR before where you just hand off traffic described in an ACL to a particular outbound port and basically hand carry the traffic to a point in the network where EIGRP prefers the route you want.

Wireless Network - List Of Devices And NAT Settings?

Jan 17, 2011

I recently added several devices to my wireless-g network: Xbox 360, an HTC Smart phone, and an old laptop my buddy gave me (in addition to the 2 desktops that were already on the network). Since doing this, I've had occasional buffering problems when streaming music or video, even when I'm only using 1 of the devices. I suspect that the Xbox (or maybe phone) is downloading updates in the background, even when it's turned off, and that is consuming bandwidth. Is there any way I can see a list of devices that are connected to the network and maybe even the amount of data being transmitted to/from each so I can find the culprit. when I play online, it says that my NAT settings are not open and that this makes it take longer to connect to other players. What are the risks involved in loosening the NAT restrictions?
