On the E4200, can the wireless be turned off completely? I am no longer using any wireless devices and thought that if I can turn off or disable all wireless functionality it might be more secure and run cooler. Short of that...what settings can I use that would prevent any wireless device from gaining access?
View 2 RepliesI purchased an E4200 from a retail store about ten days ago.It completely quits periodically. Even the managment interface is gone. It seems to just die. The only fix is to unplug it, count to ten and plug it back in.router also gets extremely hot. I have tried locating it in several places, no matter where I put it, it still gets very hot. Right now I have it straddling a trash can so that it has about two feet of air space under it. It is still uncomfortable to the touch.
When I contacted technical support all they would do is walk me through setting it up from scratch again. I've done that many times, and I do not want to do it agian. Setting the router up agian will not make it cool down.
1. Exchange this for another one, probably from the same batch, at the store?
2. Fight with Linksys tech support to get a waranty return? (Any input on how to get them to do this?)
3. Return this router altogether (paying the retailer's 15% restocking fee) and look for another brand?
I posted my complaint on Amazon.com recently. My E4200 router stopped allowing traffic through ports completely. I was able to unplug the power and allow the router to cool, and the router would work for a while then stop after about 10 minutes. I assume that the unit was overheating, but I do not have the equipment of a test facility.I bought a Belkin AC 1200 router which is a bit of an upgrade from Amazon.com. I do not think that there is anything that Linksys can do for me as my warranty expired. I just thought that when I spent what was to me a lot of money the router should have lasted longer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am having a trouble with my router, our modem is the one that is connected to a TV box and it comes with a wifi function(a modem with a wifi function). I am not sure how to set it up, so I connected it to E4200 which is located in another room using CAT6 flat cable and set it to "Bridge mode". But whenever I open the TV box, the wifi won't work, and when it's closed, it works. :s how weird is that. Are there any problems? The modem with wifi will always work either way I open/close the TV box, but the E4200 wifi will only work when I close the TV box. I asked my service provider about this and they tell me it's not their problem anymore.
View 2 Replies View Relatedthere has been issues with this router, and I wonder if any of you have issues connecting to the 5ghz when you wake your pc from sleep longer than an hour. For some reason when I put my computer to sleep at night and wake it up in the morning, my computer will not connect to 5ghz. It will work fine with 2.4, both are set in auto, so I dont see any issues. I did try to put 5ghz to a manual setting; wpa2, 40 mhz, and channel 161. I still get the same results. I am doing something wrong or is the router's 5ghz faulty?Also when is the new firmware coming, I am getting sick of my Harddrive being awake 24/7, its killing the harddrives life span and wasting electricity. I should put this in another post, because they should really change the media server to Wild Media Server or Serviio it would be alot better.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've had this WRT300N for several years and it has worked very well.It suddenly dropped all wireless connections and no one can re-connect. My main pc is hard wired directly to the router and works perfectly as always. 3 wireless pc's and 3 handheld devices suddenly can't connect. I've powered down my modem and router for several minutes, but nothing changed. The firmware was upgraded a long time ago and there are no other upgrades available.

I've tried resetting it, holding the reset button while powering up for over 5 minutes with no change.
All the router does now is the power light is blinking but no access to the router is possible at all.
My old WRT54G V8 router has been acting up lately. It keep dropping the connection out of the blue. Sometimes I'd be browsing the Internet when the router's signal vanishes completely, it disappears from the list of available wireless networks on not just my computer, but my smartphone and all other devices in the household! Other times I keep connected to the network but there's no access to the Internet. Everything seems fine on the ISP's part, I can connect just fine directly from my modem, so I'm certain the problem is with the router. Besides, these problems are solved by just power cycling the router.

I don't know what that did but I've been completely shut out of my connection ever since and I don't know how to fix it. I tried doing the install sequence of the router just now (Clone MAC address, then release and renew DHCP, power cycle modem, router, and PC) but it still didn't work.

If I turn the power on the storage device and try to navigate the router it says ".....Can't establish a connection to the server at 192.168.1.1." As soon as QoS is turned on the upload speed drops down to usually 300k and it never exceeds 1M.At the same time any VPN connection gets dropped often.I also configured one E4200v1 as router and the second E4200v1 as Access Point (HDCP off) hardwired to the first one.Any VPN connection gets dropped when changing location. I.e. if VPN was established with the router, the connection gets dropped when in the location where AP is -- and the other way around too. There is no coverage gap between the two locations, to the contrary - they do overlap heavily.On Dec 21, 2011 the level 2 Linksys/Cisco people advised that they will forward the two issues to engineering and that resolution will be within 24-48 hours.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm having an issue with my work laptop. I'm just setting up a wireless connection for the first time. I bought the Linksys E1000. I have used this laptop at work and at hotels for a 54 MbPS connection. I set up the Linksys at home. It sees the network and will tell me that it is connection at 54 MbPS. Then it quickly goes down to 11 then 5.5 then 2. Eventually it runs so slow that I time out of the security portal at work because its so slow. Occasionally it even loses the network and has to find it again. I'm only about 20 feet away from where the router is located. I have hung up all cordless phones and turned off my cell phone.

This is on Win7 32 bit Home Premium. I assume this is due to the fact that I was using a newer and switched to an older piece of hardware and there is some driver issues. How to uninstall the old driver completely so I can start fresh I have tried everything I know to do and can't seem to get anywhere.

I've got a WUSB600N (old squarish v.1 hardware) attached to this PC via the extender cable and until recently it had been working perfectly.Now, however, something has gone drastically wrong with the setup somehow, because every time I shut down or restart the PC, the adapter refuses to start back up again when the PC is brought back up.The Linksys Network Monitor starts automatically on boot and appears in the systray but the icon is grayed out. If I check the Device Manager listing for the adapter under the system control panel, the adapter is listed there but with a yellow exclamation mark. If I check the properties of the adapter it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". If I remove and reinsert the adapter it simply disappears from the list and then reappears, again with the yellow exclamation mark.
If I uninstall the adapter completely (again, through the Device Manager), it uninstalls with no issues. When I reinsert the adapter, it detects it, says "Found new hardware", then after a moment or two says "A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your new hardware may not work properly".
If I uninstall the adapter AND the Linksys Network Monitor software, then reinstall the software and reinsert the adapter, it is properly detected, completes setup and connects successfully to my wireless network. And then stops working again as soon as I reboot the PC.
I'm using the latest driver and software monitor from the Linksys site, the 1.01 version.I'm considering removing the adapter and software and reinstalling JUST the adapter from the drivers, to see if that works. But it's been working fine till now so I'm at a loss to explain what's going on.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed some wireless IP cameras and when attempting to re-install a camera I went into the DHCP Client table to verify which IP a camera was using to set it up, but I could not...and still cannot see any of my cameras in the table even though I can access three of them directly through the IE web browser. I initially power cycled both the E4200 router and Motorola cable modem, and then later just the wireless router...but I still do not see the devices connected. I currently have 2.0.37 firmware even though I was told by Cisco support that there was a later version available, just before being informed that I do not have support available and could purchase it. I attempted to locate a newer version, but the online upgrade portion of the Cisco Connect software searched the net and then states that I have the latest version available. I also opened a Firefox browser to see if maybe my browser was causing issues, but the same limited table appears without all entries available. I even opened the Cisco Connect software on another laptop with the same limited results. Other than a factory reset, get me E4200 dual band wireless router to show all attached devices through the DHCP Client table as it previously did approximately two weeks ago?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have bought a DIR 615 router one week ago and although my main goal was to use it at better wireless speeds (using the N feature) it turned out that I can only use it as a normal router. The hardware version is H1 and the software ver is 8.0.
The problem is that whenever I turn on the wireless with default configuration, the router immediately starts resetting by itself over and over again. Sometimes it doesn't reconnect, but as soon as I try to connect to it using one of my laptops, it immediately starts restarting. After it starts the continuous resetting, it is very hard to reset its settings using the hardware reset button, because I don't even have time to press it for 10 seconds. If the wireless is turned off, everything works.
I have had an e4200 for about a month now and its been pretty good. But I have noticed that it completely locks up when I go to copy mass amounts of data through it. I have a NAS drive plugged into it and my laptop is on the 2.4 spectrum. I went to transfer 8gigs of data from laptop to NAS drive and the entire wireless portion of the router locks up. All my wireless clients drop and I have to unplug the router and plug it back in. Even the 5ghz clients drop as well. I have not tried hardwire, but the main reason I got this was for its throughput.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a E4200 v1 router and recently discovered that wired and wireless devices cannot talk to each other.Their IP address are acquired through DHCP and inside the same network, but cannot talk to each other by any means, such as ping or http connection.I tried switching wired device to wireless and this actually solve the problem. I've searched and seen thread talking about "AP isolation" settings in advanced wireless setting, but there's no such setting page in my router (running on v1.0.5 firmware). I've already disabled any filtering and firewall function on the router, but still no good.

I am reluctant to upgrade; however, my iMAC is picking up the 5GHz broadcast setting, but the rest of my wireless devices only recognize my lower 2.4GHz setting. I have changed channels, my router address is changed because it conflicted with my Verizon DSL. I do not have FIOS. What can I do to fix this problem. I have an ipad, 2 iphones, 2 ipod touches, 2 laptops (PCs), an XBOX, and a PS3 that needs to connect to a higher broadcast. The connections are slow and at times get dropped.

Whether it be downloading or just trying to watch a video on youtube. For some reason everytime I try to download something it appears to start fast but then it basically just stops. I'm running windows Vista and I've tried going into the router security settings and unchecking Block Anonymous Internet Requests.
I have a E4200 router and I was using it with a 1st generation MacBook Air for internet and also had my Samsung laser printer hooked up (USB) for wireless printing. It worked perfectly. Now I have upgraded to a new MacBook Air. The internet connection works fine, but printing won't work. Same printer. Same connections.
Do I need to refresh/reboot something? My new Mac has the printer driver. I get a message "printer if offline" "printer is not connected" -I feel like the router now does not recognize the new Mac's command to print.The older macbook air still works and prints wirelessly. The new one does not.
I have an HP laser printer (network printer) plugged into one of the ethernet ports of the E4200. I am able to print and communicate with the printer (via the built-in web interface) for the first few hours after the printer is powered on. After a day or so, however, (when the printer has gone into sleep/power-save mode) I can no longer print or attach to it - it is seen as being offline. The only way around this is to power the printer off and on again.I never had this problem with the E3000 or the (non-Cisco) router before that. I do not see any settings that would cause this to happen.

I have https only set up, and after I get thru the 'certificate error' screen, I get an error that says web page is unavailable. Firfefox tells me that the connection was lost - error 101.I have tried wired and wireless, multiple computers, multiple browsers. I even turned the firewall off on one computer (or I think I did anyway).The only way I know how to fix it is by completely resetting then setting up the router all over again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedUpgraded from WRT610N to E4200. Since upgrading to latest firmware the wan just disappears both 5 and 2.5 Ghz bands. Happened with older firmware but not as often. Using it in briged mode. When this happens I can't even get to the management page with a lan connected pc. Have to do a hard reboot to get it to respond again. This is unacceptable for a router at this price point.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI consider myself very technical and with pretty good knowledge of networking and routers, but I was baffled today.I was doing some testing and had a Firefox browser open with Pandora playing some music. I decided to reboot my router and much to my amazement, after pulling the power plug on the router, Pandora kept playing music as if nothing happened! It went on to play the entire 6 minute song then stopped when it attempted to go to the next song in the play list.
I must admit I don't understand this. Even if it has something to do with a networking protocol I don't understand, the router is still needed for the physical (Ethernet wire) connections from my PC to the router and then ultimately through the cable modem to the internet. Of course, I did NOT turn off the cable modem--just the router.I doubt it matters but the modem is a Zoom 5341 Cable Modem, the router a Linksys WRT160N V3 Wireless Router (stock firmware) running WinXP Pro SP3 and as I mentioned, the PC is connected via cable to the router.
I am connecting the E4200 to a Sonicwall TZ100. I want the TZ100 to assign IP addresses to devices that connect to the LAN via the E4200.
How do I have the E4200 act as a WAP only or not assign IP addresses and push that responsibility to the TZ100?
I'd still want the E4200 to have a SID key for LAN access security.
