Linksys WRT54G V5 Router / Transfers Start Fast Then Almost Halt Completely?

Linksys WRT54G v5 Router
Arris TM502G/CT Modem
Whether it be downloading or just trying to watch a video on youtube. For some reason everytime I try to download something it appears to start fast but then it basically just stops. I'm running windows Vista and I've tried going into the router security settings and unchecking Block Anonymous Internet Requests.

My old WRT54G V8 router has been acting up lately. It keep dropping the connection out of the blue. Sometimes I'd be browsing the Internet when the router's signal vanishes completely, it disappears from the list of available wireless networks on not just my computer, but my smartphone and all other devices in the household! Other times I keep connected to the network but there's no access to the Internet. Everything seems fine on the ISP's part, I can connect just fine directly from my modem, so I'm certain the problem is with the router. Besides, these problems are solved by just power cycling the router.

I have a WRT54G v6 router and I am trying to get higher speeds from a wireless network, I have set up a dish and a cantenna and is going really well about 18-22dbi gain which is very noticeable but I have a question, does an ?Ethernet cable speeds up the transfers Like the Upload and download speeds will be faster? like a high speed cat7 or cat6 cable that can transfer data at much higher frequencies? I have cat 5 and get around 13Mbps, will cat 6 get me 16 or 17? or the router can't handle it?.Also another question is how can I make the gain on the dish higher?

I'm finally upgrading my internet from my currently pathetic 1.5 mbps to a robust 20 mbps cable connection. It's getting installed over the weekend and my question is, should I try to place the modem close enough to my pc for a direct ethernet connection, or will wireless be fast enough to take advantage of the full 20 mbps? I have a linksys wireless-g wrt54g router. It says it's 54mbps so it should be far beyond my cable speed. My adapter on my pc is a Netgear WNDA3100-100NAR dual band usb 2.0 wireless N adapter that claims up to 300 mbps. So it seems like I should be able to achieve the same speeds wireless or wired, but really don't know much about networking other than basic router setup so wanted to double check. It will be a bit of hassle to try to route the modem into my computer room as I don't have any lines run there currently. If I place it by the tv and go wireless it's a lot easier setup.

Recently purchased a Linksys E4200.Computers on network:Two hard-wired gigabit desktops: one Windows XP, one Windows 7One hard-wired 100mbps desktop running Windows 7One laptop with an Intel 4965AGN running Windows 7.File transfer rates between any of the desktops and the laptop is very slow: ~2 megabytes/s
File transfer rates between the gigabit desktops is good (~50 megabytes/s, hdd bottleneck), transfers between the 100mbps desktop and one of the gigabit machines gives ~10 megabytes/s.Currently running on the 5Ghz band, connected with N at 300 megabits, good signal strength. Disabled mixed mode on this band, enabled N-only.Use a scanner tool, I can tell that there are no other networks on 5Ghz band. Also, tried 2.4 Ghz band and got similiar low speeds. These transfer rates are much below what other people report for real-world throughput. Any ideas? I know there is an Advanced Wireless config page, is there a setting there that might work if adjusted?

I've had this WRT300N for several years and it has worked very well.It suddenly dropped all wireless connections and no one can re-connect. My main pc is hard wired directly to the router and works perfectly as always. 3 wireless pc's and 3 handheld devices suddenly can't connect. I've powered down my modem and router for several minutes, but nothing changed. The firmware was upgraded a long time ago and there are no other upgrades available.

I purchased an E4200 from a retail store about ten days ago.It completely quits periodically. Even the managment interface is gone. It seems to just die. The only fix is to unplug it, count to ten and plug it back in.router also gets extremely hot. I have tried locating it in several places, no matter where I put it, it still gets very hot. Right now I have it straddling a trash can so that it has about two feet of air space under it. It is still uncomfortable to the touch.
When I contacted technical support all they would do is walk me through setting it up from scratch again. I've done that many times, and I do not want to do it agian. Setting the router up agian will not make it cool down.
1. Exchange this for another one, probably from the same batch, at the store?
2. Fight with Linksys tech support to get a waranty return? (Any input on how to get them to do this?)
3. Return this router altogether (paying the retailer's 15% restocking fee) and look for another brand?

My WAG120N router has stopped working completely. None of the Ethernet ports or the wi-fi signal button is lit, power light continues to blink for 10 odd mins and then comes to a rest. Tried to login to admin portal without any success, tried to reset it pressing the reset button in the back without any success.Tried the 30-30-30 reset method without success too.

I've just been on the phone with tech support and it appears that the latest firmware that Cisco Connect is stating that one should install is faulty and is bricking routers.
I've tried resetting it, holding the reset button while powering up for over 5 minutes with no change.
All the router does now is the power light is blinking but no access to the router is possible at all.

I posted my complaint on Amazon.com recently. My E4200 router stopped allowing traffic through ports completely. I was able to unplug the power and allow the router to cool, and the router would work for a while then stop after about 10 minutes. I assume that the unit was overheating, but I do not have the equipment of a test facility.I bought a Belkin AC 1200 router which is a bit of an upgrade from Amazon.com. I do not think that there is anything that Linksys can do for me as my warranty expired. I just thought that when I spent what was to me a lot of money the router should have lasted longer.

I was in the Wireless tab>Basic Wireless Settings and then I clicked the "Reset Security" button. I don't know what that did but I've been completely shut out of my connection ever since and I don't know how to fix it. I tried doing the install sequence of the router just now (Clone MAC address, then release and renew DHCP, power cycle modem, router, and PC) but it still didn't work.

I have a Linksys E1550 Wireless Router that is fast as can be on the wired connection, getting 30mbs from the cable modem connection. If I switch to using wireless on the same PC, the max connection speed I'll get is 2mbs. I've changed all sorts of settings trying to get this working right, and it still stays at 2mbs.As an additional note, this router was previously working fine at 30mbs on wireless as well, then out of nowhere this weekend, it started running at 2mbs. I went and purchased another of the same model and it is doing the same thing as well.
What is the secret to having this run at it's correct speed, not this slow 2mbs that it is now? I have configured this the same as every other Linksys router I've had in the past, and it is running horribly slow..I'm on the newest firmware as well, have already verified that. The old router was updated to newest firmware as testing to resolve this, and the new router came with it installed already.

What can i do to have the wired computer with same fast speed as wireless?....i'm i missing something? Here are the speed results:
All wired computers connections (total of 4) downwload speed ranging from 8 Mbps to 13 Mbps.
All wireless computer connections download speed stable at 49 Mbps.

I recently upgraded my internet speed service from my ISP (Brighthouse). They installed a gateway to replace their old modem, but I have had it bridged so it should act as a modem. Speedtest.net shows downloads on the order of 40-50 Mbps and uploads around 5 Mbps. If I try doing something interactively that pushes the speed and size of files (like flying over Google earth using my mouse to guide the direction and speed) my connection seems to hang. I have to reset the router (unpower and repower it) to get my internet connection to work. This has also happened when I quickly downloaded a series of large images - I click to get the next page fairly soon after the current page has finished downloaded. My router is a WRT350N.

I have a client family who will be moving into a big one floor (but on a giant slope hill as if it had two floors) house. About 88 feet seems to be the longest distance from a small room with the new cable modem. This is based on Google Maps' aerial shot: [URL] Longest Distance FromACableModemRoom.jpg (right side/east is a huge hill with trees). Will an old wireless Linksys WRT54GL router be able to handle this far distance with fast speeds and stability? If not, then which wireless routers can do it? It would be nice to have third party firmware options like Linksys WRT54GL routers. Also, fast speed like gigabits for fast local file transfers between computers in the big house! 100mb/sec is slow these days! Stability and support are important too. The routers doesn't need to be the latest too

I am no longer using any wireless devices and thought that if I can turn off or disable all wireless functionality it might be more secure and run cooler. My WRT54G2 v1 does not automatically connect to the internet on computer start-up. The computer will say "Connected, No Internet Access" In order to fix it I have to unplug the router and then plug it back in. This happens to any computer that tries to get online from a cold start-up. The router must always be unplugged, then plugged back in, then it will have internet access (and will generally maintain it throughout the session and even if the computer is restarted, i.e. warm boot). I have downloaded the latest firmware uprade.

I had an antenna break on a WMP54g v 4.1 and I was able to replace it with a WMP54g v 4 but I'm not having a lot of luck getting the driver to install. This is on Win7 32 bit Home Premium. I assume this is due to the fact that I was using a newer and switched to an older piece of hardware and there is some driver issues. How to uninstall the old driver completely so I can start fresh I have tried everything I know to do and can't seem to get anywhere.

I recently bought a WRT160N Wireless router and am not getting fast wireless speeds. My ISP told me my speeds are 10mbps download and 1 mbps upload. I realize that this is not lighting fast but it is all that I feel like i need. My speeds on the WRT160N are about 2-3 MBPS d/l and 600kbps u/l on my wireless connection, which is hooked up to my playstation 3. My wired connection, which goes to my pc, is 9.75 mbps d/l and about .95 mbps u/l, which seems right. Why am I getting such low speeds with a router that is suppose to be build for faster wireless and longer ranges. To make a comparison, I have been using an OLD linksys b-rated router. i can't exactly remember the model, but i think it is the bef11s4, it came with a network card and is about 6-7 years old. I was getting 3-3.5 mbps d/l and 800kbps u/l with the b rated router, and it seemed like a better reception, like in the 80's-90's. ThisWRT160N is getting like in the 70's and sometimes lower.I have tried setting the router to open all ports to a dedicated ip address, it made things a little better, maybe getting 2.5 mbps d/l at the most. What am i doing wrong? I have heard something about tomato firmware but am not real familiar with it?

I bought the DIR-655 less than a year ago in Amazon, shipping it to NY. And then I came back to Uruguay. Almost 3 months ago the router stopped working completely and I started to search for support in Uruguay. After calling US support I was told I should contact the local or regional D-Link (which I later found is D-Link LA). And via DLinkLA.com I found the company TELEDATA S.A. url... who does the official support for D-Link in Uruguay. They told me the router couldn't be fixed, and told me DLinkLA, which is based in Chile, would either send me a working one (they also told me the service/warrany was already approved), or send me the money and gave me their contact details. After two weeks of contacting them, trying to get their attention, they finally told me it was not their responsibility because it was bought in the US. And now they don't return my e-mails.

I have a switch connected from the internet outtake in my apartment. This switch gives internet to two, or sometimes three computers, by cable. To get wireless I have a DLINK-615 connected after the switch. This solution works flawless for some time, just after the router is started or reset. If I go to speedtest.net both the upload and the download works flawless. However, after around half an hour it's virtually impossible to upload, which gives heavy lag in programs like skype and games. If you try to speedtest.net now the download is still fine, but the upload gives a result of 0.1mb/sec after trying to even start the test for 3-4 minutes.Router giving up upload completely
I've tried to change the IP in the router to prevent a conflict between it and the switch. The problem is still there whatever IP I choose though, I simply have no upload.I've also tried to disable the DHCP, mess with the MTU and to enable the Access Point mode with no result.

You would think that's easily found via Google but that is not the case Our firewall seems to be blocking some file transfers from wireless clients logged into the domain to our Server 03 file server so I need to make an exception but I don't know what port is actually used for that.

Netgear Wireless Bridge connects to my long term hotel's wifi, and feeds via ethernet into the Internet port of my WNDR4000.WNDR4000 has my Desktop and WHS connected via gigabit, while the HTPC is 450mbps wireless N with an Intel 6300n, and my Macbook air is connected via 5ghz wireless n as well.I'm having a very bizarre issue where all large file transfers - even over gigabit - are corrupted, while direct downloads are not. I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I CANNOT make a working windows install disc from a tech net iso, and eventually starting checking sha1 hashes. This is how I discovered that direct downloads to machine's hash correctly, but if I transfer it to another machine the sha1 is completely different.
For example, if I download the iso on my macbook air and transfer it to my WHS, the hash is correct on the MAcbook but on the WHS it fails. If I download it to my desktop and transfer it to the HTPC or WHS, same thing happens. There errors are bad enough that Windows setup errors out with a corrupt file error if I make the disc from a networked machine. I have to use the local file to get it to work.

I have a 3750 acting as my WAN router connected to our MPLS provider via ethernet. For a couple days my inbound bandwidth has been completely saturated at 20Mbs (the speed of my link). I know this model of switch does not support netflow, but is there any other way to try and find out what is using all the bandwidth? I have pretty much ruled out anything on the internet since the in/out interfaces of my firewall are not seeing much traffic.
