Linksys Wireless Router :: EA4500 Firmware V2.0.37 (Build 131047) Feedback
May 7, 2012
Just a few things I've noticed with this build..
1.) If you reboot the modem, it seems to loose UPnP settings. I have to turn UPnP off then back on again in order UPnP to work normally.
2.) Probably petty but when I click the Disconnect button under Router Status, the page doesn't automatically refresh like it did with E4200v1. I have to manually refresh to get the connect button to appear. The refresh issue is also true within the mobile app. Again, not an issue with E4200v1.

I just purchased 3 E4200v2 routers. As I am prepping them to install, I am attempting to update the firmware from 2.0.26 -> 2.0.37. I downloaded the zip file from the Cisco support site and when unzipped the file is named FW_E4200_2.0.37.131047.SSA. When I attempt to do a manual update from the Admin page, I imediately get an image file is incorrect error.
I've downloaded the file a total of three times on 2 separate networks and have tried three different browsers to attempt the update, all with the same error. The support chat sessions have proven worthless, they seem very scripted and the last one kept trying to sell me a support contract...
I want to stay with the Classic firmware, even though it is lacking current bug fixes. Does anyone have a "good" copy of the 131047 firmware? It appears to me that the one on the Cisco site is broken.

The device has been trying for days to auto-download and all it does is fail constantly. Saying that my connection is slow - gee, I have FiOS, I know it's not slow, maybe it's your Servers Cisco?Well, where can I obtain the direct DL link to that firmware file instead of relying on an unreliable device to get it and apply for me?

I am unable to connect both of my smart phones to the access point. I am using WPA2 encryption on the AP. I can connect my phones to other AP's using WPA2. I have other devices that connect to the AP except my Android phones. I would like to be able to get some debug logs except the web interface says that the logging fictions are disabled when in bridge mode. Cisco/Linksys tech support: Any troubleshooting tips other than resetting the access point and or reflashing it.

the only way i can get 300mbps from this router is by having these settings, it seems the only valid settings to get 300mbps from the router are the following:
Network Mode: mixed
Channel Width: auto (20mhz or 40mhz)
Channel : 1
if i leave the channel to auto it won't show up as 300.on top of that it doesn't want to stay at 300mbps for very long, sometimes its max rate in inSSDer is only 144 or 156mbps. its the weirdest thing, i think this version of the firmware seems to forget to check for how fast its wireless transmit speed is.When it reboots it only transmits at 144 or 156mbps. i have to go in the basic wireless page and just save the settings to reset it to 300, i don't even have to change anything, it resets its max rated speed back up to 300mbps.and more importantly, are the devs aware of this problem for the e1200 v2 ?

I just upgraded my E4200v1 router to a new EA4500. The install process went fine and I'm running firmware 2.0.37.When I was running the E4200v1, I had wireless speeds of 24-30mbs. Since upgrading to the EA4500, I only have 5-8mbs wireless speed.

just to relieve a little those who complain for the loss of functionalities/control caused by the new firmware, I want to let you know that yesterday evening when I came back home the router was bricked. After more than 2 hours of tests with the online support, they ended up the device has to be replaced. To add insult to injury, I ALSO HAVE TO PAY to ship my router to Cisco warehouse. I couldn't believe my eyes... It's not for the 10 bucks it costs the shipment (even if 10 bucks are much better in my wallet than in Cisco's), but I already spent around 300 bucks less than 2 months ago to buy the two devices and now I have to pay to fix something I have not broken.

Is classic firmware 2.0.37 for the EA4500/E4200v2 vulnerable? I see that the workaround is to use the latest Smart Wifi firmware. How soon can we expect to see a classic firmware update? [URL] Linksys quote taken from a random review that I found on Amazon below......The manufacturer commented on this review(What's this?) Posted on Jul 26, 2012 9:53:51 AM PDT Linksys says: (MANUFACTURER) Jason, Cisco Linksys plans to offer Software Updates to the EA Series router for customers who choose a local management option (including Cisco Connect/Classic). We will continue to provide Customer Care and deliver SW Updates to address Security, Critical Bugs and User Interface issues as required. Customers can comfortably stay with the local management option and Cisco will deliver continued support.

I just ordered an EA4500. It should be here in a few days. After reading most of the 45 page Cloud Experience thread, I am leaning toward using the Classic Firmware. I have read the release notes but want your input:
1. Is the Classic Firmware stable or buggy?
2. Are there any features (besides cloud) that won't work? dual band? usb storage? dlna?
3. Where is user manual for Classic users?

I upgraded my firmware back to 2.0.37 (after Cisco tried to push that cloud nonsense down my throat) and would like to re-install Cisco Connect. Has anyone successfully reinstalled the Cisco Connect software after those fine folks at Cisco took control of your router and your computer and removed it for you? This is my last Cisco/Linksys product ever. I purchased my EA4500 a week ago and then they pull this crap

I know this is a "home" router, but there are a lot of common vulnerabilities that can be detected.
1. Is there any intent to offer a firmware update for the Non Cloud Connect option.
2. Does Cisco intend to make the Cloud Connect Firmware "feature complete" compared to the Non Cloud Connect?
3. Is there going to be support for Stateful DHCPv6?

I just setup my new Cisco EA4500 and upgraded to latest firmware and signed up for my account.Local access to the router works fine and I see the Smart Wi-Fi admin/config interface However when I try to go to the following site: url...To access Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Tools, your router <em>requires</em> the <a href="url...Series Linksys Smart Wi-Fi Firmware</a> and you will need to associate your router with your Linksys Smart Wi-Fi account. On a computer or device connected to your router, open url... and follow the instructions. This requires that you enter the router password so have that ready.
However I see no way to perform the association step - my account exists and my router is configured.I am doing all this behind this router wi-fi network not remotely.

Is there anywhere I can download WAP610N Firmware Version 01.0.00 build 832? I have two units with this firmware version that work OK. I recently purchased another unit that has WAP610N Firmware Versions 1.0.01 and and can only access an IP address if I do not use any security. I also spent a lot of time on the phone with Linksys support to no avail.

Started a upgrade of my firmware to Ver.2.0.03 (Build 10) for the E1200 H/W v2 and at 98% it stalled this was over wired connection and via http not https.
I'm really disappointed which this router because in all honesty its been one of the slowest I have ever bought whereas the Wireless-N doesn't truly work with N speeds being like 3-9Mbps where if I disable WMM and switch to B/G Only then my speeds jump to 20-30Mbps.

I've looked all over the internet for this and can't find a definate answer. Waited for live chat and got kicked before I got to talk to someone... Just sold my computer and the plan was to buy a newer mac but we've been getting along fine without a computer with just using our iphones. So my question, I see that Cisco has the Connect Express app for the iphone, and I've read about all the features it has like changing settings, router features, etc. But I can't find anything on using the app for the initial set up of the router. I'm currently on an older linksys router (set up before we sold the computer) but it's time for a needed upgrade.

I got my ea4500 all set up. never had a media servor or anything like that, figured this would be an easier way. when i hook up my exteral i can find it but i can only view the files in windows media player. how can i just browse the folders manually? WMP doesnt let me browse the folders as they actually are on the HDD which is such a pain in the **bleep**.
shows a device in "network infrastructure" but it says problem sending command to the program when i click that. i dont want to have to view the HDD in WMP as a media device...

My new EA4500 (fw ver 2.0.36) won't obtain an IP from a Brighthouse TM502G cable modem. The EA4500 replaced a functioning WRT54G which would obtain an IP from the ISP. I've tried upgrading firmware and have used both straight-through and crossover cables between the EA4500 & TM502G to no avail. The EA4500 would issue IPs to it's clients, but not obtain one from it's TM502G. At the moment, all 3 are daisy-chained together with the old WRT54G in the middle in order to make the EA4500 work. Both WiFi and LAN ports function in this configuration.

I downloaded and installed inSSider for Windows and, under the 2.4 Ghz tab, I can clearly see the Router SSID, on Channel 6, exactly as configuredbin the Router. However on the 5 Ghz tab, nothing? I can see Channels 36, 40, 44, 48, 52 and so on BUT no trace of any wireless signal here?I carefully reviewed the wireless settings options and it is indeed enabled.

In my apartment, I can receive the wireless signal of free scholl wireless, which is accessable without user name and password. Although the signal is not good, but we used to use a router EA3000 to relay the signal. Now my roommate is leaving with this this router. So I bought EA4500 and try to do the similar job. However, I find that the configurations on 192.168.1.1 are different between EA3000 and EA4500. Many options cannot be found in the EA4500 page, such as the wireless client.

I'm hoping to get this router to allow WOL (actually wake on WAN) but it seems to be blocking the necessary broadcast magic packet even though the settings appear correct. It's not critical, but the reason is this: I'd like to shut down the home PC, but when necessary be able to start it up and use a VPN to access any info I need remotely.
From within the LAN, I can verity that WOL works. I have NIC and PCI WOL enabled in the BIOS. The NIC (a Marvel Yukon Gigabit) has WOL enabled as well as "allow this device to wake.." using magic packets under power management. The target machine's local IP is reserved through the EA4500 DHCP Reservation table. Just for troubleshooting, I opened port 9 in windows firewall. More importantly, I have ports 7-9 forwarded to my target LAN address. Single port forwarding... it just has been less reliable (?). I'm using a mask of 255.255.255.128 in order to enable broadcasting on .127 at some point as it seems it must be necessary. Broadcasting on .255 is not possible, despite some workarounds I found on the web. EA4500 firmware is the latest, 2.0.37. I have turned off the multicast filter and the anonymous internet filters under the security tab.
So, with these settings, I can WOL from inside the network no problem either targeting the LAN address, or by using a dyndns address. So far so good. With these same settings, I can go to WAN using Depicus or the Cloud Connect Pro app over 4G on an iPad. With all these same settings, WOLsniffer confirms the magic packet still getting through over WAN (obviously using the dyndns address). Even better, I can shutdown the target PC and STILL wake it up within a few minutes from WAN. Let me restate that! Wake up over WAN works, but only for the first few minutes after a shutdown.
However, if I wait 20 minutes or so, WOL stops working. If I change the port forwarding to .127, not only does it not work, but WOLsniffer will fail to see the magic packet. My conclusion is that the ARP table is getting purged, which is undertandable, and so the target LAN address isn't in memory. However, frustratingly the EA4500 will not broadcast no matter what settings you use. This limitation is undocumented, and counterintuitive since the software allows you to disable multicast filtering and does not notify you of an error when forwarding to xxx.xxx.xxx.127 with a 255.255.255.128 mask.
