Linksys Wireless Router :: N4200 - Using As Access Repeater?
Nov 21, 2012
My wife just was using our 4200N router fine this morning. I went to try and use the internet and it was not working. I can connect my PC directly to the modem and works fine as I am typing on it now.
I upgraded to the latest firmware to see if that would fix it but it does not.
From what I can see, no matter how hard it tries, it won't grab an IPV4 or 6 IP address from my cable company. I am thinking the router just went bad on that side of the router. I hate paying for shipping back and forth when this router should of lasted as long as my old linksys that I have now and am using as a access repeater.

We have a wireless network and would like to extend the range for it and I was told that a E2000 could be setup to extend the range. If we say that our existing wireless network has the SSID network1, can the E2000 be setup so that it is connected to a LAN socket and then wok as a wireless runter with the same SSID (network1) so that pc's can connect easily ?Or must the two wireless routers be connected with a dedicated cable ?Or must I setup the new E2000 up as a new wireless network with a new SSID like network2 ?

I just purchased 2 E2000 routers at BB and was assured the second one could be configured as a repeater access point. Some current messages indicate this is not possible. Will a Cisco moderator please confirm and clarify repeater options.

I'm very dissatisfied with the range and signal strength of my new WRT610N dual band router compared to the WAP54G Access Point I used before. Can I configure the Access Point as a repeater for the 2.4 GHz band on the WRT610N if I use the WRT610N as a Wireless G router rather than wireless N?

We just got a new replacement router at our home. We had a 2wire 2701 HG-S (we got this for free when we signed up for our DSL service) and now replaced it with a Netgear N300 Work and Play model. I want to know if we can set up the 2wire router as another access point to improve our wireless signal range. Right now we have a good signal upstairs (where the Netgear router is located), but not the best signal downstairs. I am able to run an Ethernet cord from the Netgear router downstairs to the 2wire if necessary, if it will improve our WiFi signal. Both of these routers are router/modem combos that include the DSL modem, in addition to wireless access point btw. Is this even possible to do? Would it require me to install a custom firmware onto the 2wire router?

I have a WAP54G as my access point, currently it is connected with my BEFSR81 router. I am thinking of changing the access point to a WAP610N for the house. I know that this would work but I was wondering if the WAP54G could be used as a repeater for the outside (I know a lower speed). I know they are two different channels but I wanted a larger range for my wireless. I am on Windows XP, SP2, using Firefox. Can this be done?

I want to extend the range for a Linksys router WRT160N. I don't have the possibility to use an access point with a wired connection. I read on this forum that can be used WAP4410N configured as repeater, without wired connection. Can someone who has used this solution to confirm that it works? What configuration should be done on the router WRT160N to permit wireless signal to be repeated by WAP4410N?

I need to extend the wireless range over what I have using an E2000. Can I use a WAP610N in repeater mode? If not can I use a WAP54G knowing that there will be a performance loss? Is there another option to add additional coverage to the existing wireless network?

I have an E2500 wireless N router that I recently bought to replace a cheapie netgear that I lent to family. The router is in the basement near a bunch of metal ducting and I live near a radio station, both of which I believe is killing my signal. Anyways, I was able to pick up a WAP54G wireless access point. I would like to use it as a wired repeater (hopefully to get the signal up into the upper levels of my house). Can I use the WAP54G with the E2500? I looked in the setup page when I was trying to set it up as a repeater, and it says it will only connect with another WAP54G or a WRT54G (linksys wireless g router).

I want to setup the second EA4500 uplink(accesspoint) as the first EA4500. I dont find any interface to do it. I am able to do it wired(by connecting the both the routers through LAN ports). but I dont want to run cable across the house. know if it is possible with another firmware. Or should I return this new EA4500 and buy another router?

I bought my self a WRT120N as my wireless router for my house. and not a long ago i bought the WAP4410N, for my repeater (after i ask to some people).my house were concrete wall, it have about 15-20cm thick, and we try to avoid any wired LAN. The destinaton were unreachable with only WRT120N.it's look like this (what i want for the network on my home) : [code] i already tried to setting the WAP4410 as a wireless WDS repeater, and wireless client/repeater (with and without "Allow wireless stations to associate"). both were unable to connect (limited), although i get the signal. for the IP on the WAP4410N (192.168.0.50), i used static IP [IP, Subnet and Default Gateway were fill in] within the WRT120N range (192.168.0.2 ->192.168.0.51)
- how i configure my WAP4410N as a repeater?
- is there any settings that i must set on the WRT120N, before combining the WAP4410N?

I have just installed an E2000 router in an upstairs office. The signal strength is quite low downstairs so my question is: Can I use a wap54g as a repeater. If so, how do I get the MAC address of the E2000?. The E2000 has two bands and is currently running at 2.4. Would the range increase if I changed the setting to 5.

I have a WAP54g set up as a repeater. It even shows in the WRT54g device list (Tomato firmware) as a WDS interface but nothing can connect to it. I have the repeater's MAC address in the AP and it's set to "Access Point + WDS" mode. I don't know what I could be doing wrong. Is it a conflict of DHCP on the AP vs static on the repeater?
