I want to install 2 wireless routers for the same home network. I want to know if I need 2 modems to go with the 2 routers or if I only need one. the routers will be placed in different locations in the house.

We have installed a new Linksys WRT54GS at home. We have been successful at getting 2 PCs and 1 laptop online but we cannot get the 2nd laptop online. I've tried everything I can through the Linksys EasyLink Advisor but nothing works to give my laptop its wireless connection back again. I don't know what else to do.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWe currently use the DIR 655 in our home. I has a great range, and we've never had any problems. Our house is a very tall Victorian, so some areas don't get as strong a signal as others. I'd like to set up a few addition devices to extend the coverage of our network.
I installed a DAP 1522 as a bridge to our entertainment PC. After a while of trying to sort out how to configure it everything is working there. The 1522 is connected to the PC via cable.
I still want to extend the overall wireless range to better cover the lower floors and back porch.
From reading the manual on the 1522 I am a bit confused. I understand how it works as a bridge, connecting devices via cable. Will it also extend the range is set as an Access Point without needing the devices to connect via cable?
I had a simple PPTP VPN server running behind my old DLink router. When I installed the E3000 the VPN clients could no longer connect. The port forwarding for PPTP is turned on and VPN passthrough is enabled. The PPTP server reported GRE47 checksum failed. The linksys chat tech was not beneficial. How to get a PPTP route to work?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI,ve used a network for a number of years with no problems. I have databases on computer 1 and access them with computer 2. After installing a Cisco e2500 I can connect to the databases but after a short period of time I am disconnected. If I search my network computer 1 is not found. Waiting a few minutes the network will find computer 1 again. At about the same time my firewall software has started to show an attack from an 2 different IP's I don't recognize but its always one of those 2 IP's. I'm assuming the two problems are related. I,ve considered going into my firewall and allowing the unknown IP access, BUT who knows where that IP is coming from. I've checked the Cisco setup but couldn't find an IP address that matched the attacking IP address.

I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSeveral months ago I installed D-Link's DIR 655 on my W7 x64 PC. Everything worked fine including NetFlix and being able to view photos located on my PC on my Sony TV. The TV is connected via wired Ethernet cable from the D-Link and I use my cable service signal from the router to the TV.
Then I had to reinstall my OS and although I can still view all the cable companies offerings, including NetFlix on the TV, I'm no longer able to see or view images located on my PC on the TV. I didn't change any of the wiring.
I tried reinstalling the D-Link CD but I can't find where it installs on my PC. It's not listed in the Device Manager or in Programs. I'm wanting to know what version of the D-Link driver I have and to be able to view photos and videos on my TV that are located in shared folders on my PC. I'm the only one who uses the PC.

The primary router is a linksys WRT360n and is stationed inside the main home, while the 2nd is a linksys WRT160N located in my office. I've connected them via the lan to lan configuration and have disabled DHCP server on the 2nd. I can access the 2nd router via my primary PC but am unable to access the internet or see the primary from the PC connected to the 2nd router.

I plugged my machine back in and received a "no internet connection" message. I have tried (what I think is) everything: unplugged my modem and router and plugged it back in as if it was the first time with the 60 second pauses and whatnot; tested the connection with my cable modem service provider; unplugged and checked cable connections; did ipconfig/flushdns ... I'm really not sure where to go from here.My wireless configuration works fine, as I am able to connect both wirelessly and wired to the router on my laptop. i just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

I am using a Dell XPS 420 computer running Vista. My wireless network has worked fine until now. I had my video/graphics card go bad and installed a new one (ATI Radeon 4350). That fixed the video problem but since then I have not been able to connect to my home wireless network. Windows suggested that I may have a hardware problem with my network adapter so I replaced it with a new Linksys AE 1200 USB adapter.The device manager says it is working properly but it does not pick up the wireless network says no networks available.The old computer sitting next to it picks up the network fine. I have reinstalled the adapter several times with no effect. When I click on the wireless network icon and ask it to diagnose the problem it says that 1) the network adapter has a driver or hardware problem (device manager says its working properly) and 2) to make sure that the Internet Protocol Bindings are proper and to make sure that Internet Protocol Version 4 and Internet Protocol Version 6 are selected (those protocols are selected).
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm off to university on Monday but I couldn't afford a laptop (I have a huge Dell gaming desktop!) so my awesome parents gave me their little Acer Aspire One D260-A netbook; Intel Atom Processor N450 (1.66GHz, 512K), 1GB, 160GB HDD. It's a couple of years old, was running XP and literally everything was broken - no sound, no backlight, faulty touchpad etc. - so first port of call was a clean install of Windows 7 and updating every driver (and BIOS) off the Acer website from a USB.Problem is, everything is running like a dream... except for the wireless. When I tried to install the latest Atheros drivers (doing all of this from a USB due to lack of connectivity) I received a Code 10: driver cannot start error, so after some troubleshooting I was pointed towards different drivers, only for Windows to inform me that it can't find the hardware.
Looking in devices, I'm seeing an Atheros Ethernet connection device but the wireless card seems to have taken a walk. Xirrus isn't seeing anything either. My current internet is between Virgin and BT (mine and my partner's house) but we move in together on Monday and we'll be setting up Sky, so I can't give you much information on internet. I do have an ethernet cable I can plug into our Virgin wifi home router (D-Link DSL-2640R Broadband Wireless G ADSL2+) if need be. One of my main problems seems to be finding the correct drivers as due to the wireless card disappearing, I'm not sure how to tell what the wireless hardware actually is.

Every time opening up Windows 7 a box of the message popping up in the middle of the screen, saying,'Failed to run service'. After two or second later, connection is completed as seeing '5 bars' at the right bottom corner of Win. 7.Afterward, upon clicking to open 'Home Page,' another message popping-up in the middle of the screen,'Check online for a solution and close the Program' Clicked 'OK' and a box of message disappeared and connection is very fast as if nothing is amiss.I think that 'Smart Wizard' or something that came with Netgear Adapter doing this.

I have a 3825 router running 12.4t IOS. I installed DSU/CSU part number HWIC-1DSU-T1 in the router and it does not recognize it. Is this the right card for this router? Is there anything I can look at to determine the issue? I think the router only has 32M RAM. Below is a show hardware. Card is still currently installed.

I even downloaded the driver from Support Downloads. After I installed it, a notification popped up in the task bar with the Intel(R) PROSet/Wireless saying Driver is not installed. edit: in device manager, under network adapters there is only the 1394 net adapter and there are yellow exclamation marks in other devices.

After read a lot of stuffs about this problem, i downloaded a driver by RALINK and installed de adpter. But......on the installation, show two hardware: one is the adapter Linksys WMP54G...and the other can't be installed. So..on the Device manager appear like "unknown device" on the three of "USB controllers"

While I have been VERY happy using my DIR-655 for the most part, all wireless routers have limitations for expansion across your home.I got my TrendNet TEW-640MB installed last night, and it talks to the 655 perfectly, and now I have 4 ethernet ports at distance across my house. I have also used a couple TrendNet TEW647Ga single port wireless bridge for other parts of my home, but with only a single Ethernet port, you still need a little switch/hub to get the extra ports.
Because these units speak .11N at 300 Mbps, it takes full advantage of the technology the 655 gave me when I bought it back in 2009 (??).

If I visit the Cisco site for firmware updates, I see that only one version of firmware is available for this access point... 1.2.14.I realize that Linksys is not Cisco's main area of business, but if you are going to provide downloads for access points you could at least make sure that you have the latest version available.
I purchased an Alienware M17x R4 about 2 months ago and it was working perfectly until yesterday. After using it for a while, it disconnected from the WiFi, and after restarting the laptop I got a pop up message saying a physical WiFi adapter is not installed, meaning I can no longer use my wireless connection, but only a cord. Going to device manager, I did not see the wireless hardware on the list of network adapters (Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 With Bluetooth 4.0), however it is still listed for the Bluetooth. I have already tried reinstalling the drivers, system restore, dell diagnosis (which says there is no problem), AlienAutopsy (which also said there is no problem) and scanning for hardware changes from the device manager, none of this has fixed the issue at all.
