Ping Has Been Randomly Spiking At Inconsistent Rate
Nov 16, 2012For months now, my ping has been randomly spiking at an inconsistent rate. I can be good for an hour, and down for a week. My usual ping is a solid 15, but it has gone as high as 1000. I've gotten a new modem, and that has changed the problem a little bit(I no longer suffer extreme download and upload loss when my ping drops) but I have yet to find a fix for the problem.

Mar 27, 2013Problem downloading is really slow even for the smallest files it takes forever. For example was downloading a game it said 1 hour 30 minutes after 30 mins it was down to 1 hour but then it started to spike up at one point it was 600 hours, kept doing that until it was downloaded which took about 2 Hours +. Ran the game and the game gives me a ping really low which is good my ping was 17, with the lag spike it reached 330 to the point I would freeze. Then it drops down kept doing that until the game was finished.

Jun 11, 2011I purchased the D-link DWA-131 wireless adapter about 3 months ago. ever since I got it when using it, the connection will spike to 1000 ping (on any server/web address) about once every 2-3 minutes, I think it might be overheating, but i'm not sure What i've tried already: updating the drivers using both windows zero configuration and the utility that came with the d-link product my old adapter still works correctly (on the same pc, using Zero configuration, same USB port)

Cisco WAN :: Linksys WAG160N Connection Spiking
Jan 28, 2011I have had a WAG160N Wireless router for around 6 months and in the last week the connection has been extremely spikey. While running in cmd "ping www.google.com" the spikes are quite apparent. A lot of the time it is 45-60ms but then it spikes to 1000 or more. I have tried on 3 different laptops in the house and the same issue with each of them. I tried using a wired connection and the problem is eliminated so im assuming it has something to do with the wireless.

Sep 20, 2011I bought a new Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop with Windows 7 on Sept 1st, and had no problems at first with the mobile broadband. However, on Monday 13th I noticed massive spikes in the data usage. After browsing the internet for around an hour I decided to check my usage randomly, and it was at 350mb!Since then, there's times when I don't even have my browser open and in the space of 5 minutes it will reach 150mb of usage. There's also times when it works absolutely perfectly for hours on end (including today, where it was working fine up until around an hour ago!) I phoned the mobile broadband company twice last week, the first time the person told me that it was a computer issue and to go to an IT repair place.
So after sending him screencaps of Windows task manager processes/applications/network he can't see anything that could be doing it. He advised me to do a full antivirus scan, and full malwarebytes and ad aware scans and they've all come up clean.The second time I phoned the broadband company, they told me that there were some wrong settings, and that they've been changed now but if I have any more problems to ring customer care again.So after seeing an offer with a different mobile broadband provider, I decided to buy a new broadband stick and change networks in hoping that would solve the problem.... it didn't.
So there's definitely something about the new laptop that's causing the data usage to spike I don't use any torrent programs, and haven't been watching youtube videos constantly or trying to stream online, like I said there's been times where I don't even have Google Chrome open and it's using up all my data! I don't use Skype or anything like that either (to be honest I have barely any programs on this new laptop)I've turned off all the automatic updates for as many programs as I think can have them. Ii's definitely improved a bit though, but there are still times (like around an hour ago) that the data usage starts spiking randomly.

Sep 18, 2012I have recently had trouble with my wireless D-link WBR-1310 Router. Two days ago everything was working fine, my wireless connection from the router to my macbook was fine and the wired connection to my desktop pc was also fine. I went to bed and when I woke up the next day everything was still ok. About 3 hours after I had first turned on the PC that next day my wired connection started spiking and dropping connection frequently, maybe every 5-10 minutes or so. I play world of warcraft and I also use Mumble VoiP Program and my pings in both are over 800 constantly now making it impossible to stay connected to either program. Sometimes it will drop down to regular numbers (25-50ms, I play on eastern servers as I am in NY) but then rapidly jumps back up into the 1,000's. My wireless connection is still fine though nothing has happened to that, only my wired connection is messing up.
I've tried changing my speed and duplex settings on my onboard NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet which is what im using but it hasn't worked. When connecting directly through the modem the problem seems to stop so its definitely the router.

I configured Gi0/2 as L3 port, connecting to the nearest neighbor. My network runs EIGRP so i advertised the routes into the EIGRP process. The switch forms EIGRP neighbors and learns all routes in the enterprise network. The problems I'm having now are: 1. The switch learns all routes in my enterprise LAN and can ping devices in the enterprise LAN, but I can’t ping any interface on the switch from the enterprise LAN. 2.

Dec 12, 2011I set this up and I can ping all the gateways but never the hosts. I was hoping I could make these links between 6500's a mix of L2 and L3. Check it out. They are connected in a linear fashion R1--->R2--->R3. I can ping from R1 to R3's SVI4 gateway but I can never ping a host on that SVI4. I was hoping that I could use the port-channels between 6500's as routed links or as trunk links depending on the type of traffic....thought it would ease the migration. I suppose I could always get rid of the port-channels and just make separate L2 and L3 links between the 6500's.

Mar 1, 2013I had both a Westell 7500 and a Linksys Router working fine and had my 360 setup as an extender for Windows Media Center so I could stream TV, Music, Movies, etc from my desktop to the 360. Then I switched my modem/router out with a Zyxel PH5001Z
So now today I noticed that I can no longer find my desktop through the XBox. I have adjusted my firewall settings on the modem itself, even completely disabling it. UPnP is enabled for the 360 and the device is showing under my device table. At first I wasn't able to ping any network devices but after creating an ICMPv4 Firewall rule it worked fine. I've confirmed the XBox IP Address through Network Map, the Device Table on the modem and through Network Settings on the XBox. I've diabled my modem firewall as well as Windows Firewall, completely and I still can't ping my XBox or set it up as an Extender.
I have the XBox connected wirelessly using WPA2-Personal and it's operating in 802.11g/n mode.

Windows XP Can't Ping All IPs In LAN
Jan 12, 2011This started out as a printer issue and then evolved into a networking issue.let's see if i can include all the details here. the laptop in question is having problems talking to other internal network computers/printers. i am on a 192.168.10.? network, the laptop has a dhcp assigned address, my domain controller/dns/dhcp server has an address of .3, i have a fileserver at .9, my default gateway is .1 the laptop can ping all 3 of those computers.i have a printer with .130 address, the laptop times out when pinging it. there are around 15 or 20 other computers on the network with dhcp assigned addresses.so far i cannot get the laptop to ping any of those.
The same thing happens whether i am connect using the Local Area connection or wireless, so 2 different NICs, same laptop though.the laptop can ping any outside address, the firewall is turned off, the other computers that i cannot ping can ping each other and the printer. here's the real kicker, i noticed while running ping 192.168.10.130 -t when i do a repair on the network connection, the darn thing will ping the 130 address 3 times then start timing out again? is going on? i have killed every weird ass service i can think of, i have booted up in safemode with networking with the same result. i have signed in as a different user, i have looked at the routing, the host file, nothing looks weird to me at all. i have also run the winsock fix for xp......
