Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N And QuickVPN - Ping Test Fails Sometimes / Not Others?

Oct 23, 2009

I have a new WRVS4400N VPN router and have set it up for VPN.  On a separate computer I have a Verizon EVDO card so I have used that with a separate computer to access the internet on a public, routable IP address off of my network.
When I use the QuickVPN client, I wasn't able to get into my network (using because I didn't have the "BLOCK WAN REQUEST" setting disabled so the router could be ping'd.  Once I did that, I verified I could successfuly ping my ddyns name
In the error log of the QuickVPN client, I still see:
2009/10/24 16:57:15 [STATUS]OS Version: Windows XP2009/10/24 16:57:16 [STATUS]Windows Firewall is OFF2009/10/24 16:57:16 [STATUS]One network interface detected with IP address x.x.x.x2009/10/24 16:57:16 [STATUS]Connecting...2009/10/24 16:57:16 [STATUS]Connecting to remote gateway with IP address:x.x.x2009/10/24 16:57:28 [WARNING]Remote gateway wasn't reached...2009/10/24 16:57:36 [STATUS]Remote gateway was reached by https ...2009/10/24 16:57:36 [STATUS]Provisioning...2009/10/24 16:57:47 [STATUS]Tunnel is configured. I HAVE been able to make the connection successfully without any other changes to the environment.  It's hit or miss, but usually a miss.  Restarting QuickVPN sometimes works on the next try, but then fails if I disconnect and try again.  Even when that ping error message is appearing, I am able to ping the host name at a command prompt without a problem.
Is something else on the router possibly blocking the ping requests? My router is behind a Westell F90 6100 DSL modem operating in bridge mode.  The 4400 is obtaining the WAN address from Verizon(DSL) and that is also where I have my PPOE info entered to obtain the internet connection.

Broadband :: Receiving MAC Address Means Ping Test Success?

Apr 8, 2011

We are trying to isolate the fault. From Aggregator a router, we are receiving MAC address of distant end ethernet interface of a SDH box and vice versa is also possible. However ther is no packet received. My question is does ping test is must to see if the path is through or just receiving MAC adress at both ends would mean that packets have to go over the path.

The network has two subnets and one of the first things that I noticed is that I cannot ping computers on subnet A from subnet B. I've looked into this and found a few things.-I CANNOT traceroute to computers on subnet B from subnet A-I CAN NMAP to computers on subnet B from subnet A-Computers on subnet A CAN ping other computers on subnet A and computers on subnet B CAN ping other computers on subnet B-Computers on subnet A CAN ping and access servers on subnet BI am relatively new to networking and not exactly sure where to start investigating this problem.

Cisco Infrastructure :: HWIC-2FE Fails To Pass Ping Packets Greater Than 449 In Slots 0 Or 1

Apr 9, 2013

When we install an HWIC-2FE card in slot 0 or slot 1 of a 3845, the interface fails to pass any ping packet greater in size than 449 bytes.  It works fine up until that limit is reached, but then fails completely on a larger size packet.  If we move to slot 3 or slot 4 on the 3845, the card works just fine!  I have looked through the cisco official bug tracker for HWIC-2FE, but could not find a similar symptom listed.  We're running advanced ip services 12.4(24)T7 code on the routers. Any software fix or if this is a platform problem with the 3800 series.

Dell :: Inspiron 11z (1110) With 1397 Mini Wireless Card - Internet IP Ping Fails

Mar 30, 2012

I have a Dell Inspiron 11z (1110) with Dell 1397 mini wireless card. The wireless connection lags/drops persisitently at any time of day or night. When I connect the computer to internet via ethernet the connection is stable. When I run a diagnostics on the wireless card all pass, except the internet IP ping. I get the following message:

The wireless router/AP for your network is working, but your computer is not able to use an IP address to connect to the Internet. You will not be able to connect to the Internet, although you might be able to connect to your local network. Contact your network administrator or wireless router/AP installer for assistance.

I have installed latest driver for the 1397 mini wireless card, albeit a couple of years old.

The wireless router I am using is Netgear Rangemax Dual Band DGND3300v2. I can get into the router administration area but am at a loss as to how to reset/re-install it.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560G Can Ping Devices In Enterprise LAN But Cannot Ping Interface

Mar 31, 2012

I have a new 3560G to set up a small network for a remote site. I configured the vlan and an SVI as the gateway. The switch is also the DHCP server for the LAN. I configured Gi0/2 as L3 port, connecting to the nearest neighbor. My network runs EIGRP so i advertised the routes into the EIGRP process. The switch forms EIGRP neighbors and learns all routes in the enterprise network. The problems I'm having now are: 1. The switch learns all routes in my enterprise LAN and can ping devices in the enterprise LAN, but I can’t ping any interface on the switch from the enterprise LAN. 2.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Can Ping From R1 To R3 SVI4 Gateway But Cannot Ping Host

Dec 12, 2011

I set this up and I can ping all the gateways but never the hosts.  I was hoping I could make these links between 6500's a mix of L2 and L3.  Check it out.  They are connected in a linear fashion R1--->R2--->R3.  I can ping from R1 to R3's SVI4 gateway but I can never ping a host on that SVI4.  I was hoping that I could use the port-channels between 6500's as routed links or as trunk links depending on the type of traffic....thought it would ease the migration.  I suppose I could always get rid of the port-channels and just make separate L2 and L3 links between the 6500's.

Windows XP Can't Ping All IPs In LAN

Jan 12, 2011

This started out as a printer issue and then evolved into a networking issue.let's see if i can include all the details here. the laptop in question is having problems talking to other internal network computers/printers. i am on a 192.168.10.? network, the laptop has a dhcp assigned address, my domain controller/dns/dhcp server has an address of .3, i have a fileserver at .9, my default gateway is .1 the laptop can ping all 3 of those computers.i have a printer with .130 address, the laptop times out when pinging it. there are around 15 or 20 other computers on the network with dhcp assigned far i cannot get the laptop to ping any of those.

The same thing happens whether i am connect using the Local Area connection or wireless, so 2 different NICs, same laptop though.the laptop can ping any outside address, the firewall is turned off, the other computers that i cannot ping can ping each other and the printer. here's the real kicker, i noticed while running ping -t when i do a repair on the network connection, the darn thing will ping the 130 address 3 times then start timing out again? is going on? i have killed every weird ass service i can think of, i have booted up in safemode with networking with the same result. i have signed in as a different user, i have looked at the routing, the host file, nothing looks weird to me at all. i have also run the winsock fix for xp......

Can't Ping XBox 360 But Can Ping Other Devices

Mar 1, 2013

I had both a Westell 7500 and a Linksys Router working fine and had my 360 setup as an extender for Windows Media Center so I could stream TV, Music, Movies, etc from my desktop to the 360. Then I switched my modem/router out with a Zyxel PH5001Z

So now today I noticed that I can no longer find my desktop through the XBox. I have adjusted my firewall settings on the modem itself, even completely disabling it. UPnP is enabled for the 360 and the device is showing under my device table. At first I wasn't able to ping any network devices but after creating an ICMPv4 Firewall rule it worked fine. I've confirmed the XBox IP Address through Network Map, the Device Table on the modem and through Network Settings on the XBox. I've diabled my modem firewall as well as Windows Firewall, completely and I still can't ping my XBox or set it up as an Extender.

I have the XBox connected wirelessly using WPA2-Personal and it's operating in 802.11g/n mode.
