When I ping an address from my windows machine, it succeeds, but when I ping to the same IP on my MAC OS X machine, it fails.

I have a new WRVS4400N VPN router and have set it up for VPN. On a separate computer I have a Verizon EVDO card so I have used that with a separate computer to access the internet on a public, routable IP address off of my network.
When I use the QuickVPN client, I wasn't able to get into my network (using ddyns.org) because I didn't have the "BLOCK WAN REQUEST" setting disabled so the router could be ping'd. Once I did that, I verified I could successfuly ping my ddyns name abc.xyz.com.
In the error log of the QuickVPN client, I still see:

I HAVE been able to make the connection successfully without any other changes to the environment. It's hit or miss, but usually a miss. Restarting QuickVPN sometimes works on the next try, but then fails if I disconnect and try again. Even when that ping error message is appearing, I am able to ping the host name at a command prompt without a problem.
Is something else on the router possibly blocking the ping requests?My router is behind a Westell F90 6100 DSL modem operating in bridge mode. The 4400 is obtaining the WAN address from Verizon(DSL) and that is also where I have my PPOE info entered to obtain the internet connection.
We are trying to isolate the fault. From Aggregator a router, we are receiving MAC address of distant end ethernet interface of a SDH box and vice versa is also possible. However ther is no packet received. My question is does ping test is must to see if the path is through or just receiving MAC adress at both ends would mean that packets have to go over the path.

It works fine up until that limit is reached, but then fails completely on a larger size packet. If we move to slot 3 or slot 4 on the 3845, the card works just fine! When I connect the computer to internet via ethernet the connection is stable. When I run a diagnostics on the wireless card all pass, except the internet IP ping. I get the following message:

View 5 Replies View RelatedI set this up and I can ping all the gateways but never the hosts. I was hoping I could make these links between 6500's a mix of L2 and L3. Check it out. They are connected in a linear fashion R1--->R2--->R3. I can ping from R1 to R3's SVI4 gateway but I can never ping a host on that SVI4. I was hoping that I could use the port-channels between 6500's as routed links or as trunk links depending on the type of traffic....thought it would ease the migration. I suppose I could always get rid of the port-channels and just make separate L2 and L3 links between the 6500's.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThis started out as a printer issue and then evolved into a networking issue.let's see if i can include all the details here. the laptop in question is having problems talking to other internal network computers/printers. i am on a 192.168.10.? network, the laptop has a dhcp assigned address, my domain controller/dns/dhcp server has an address of .3, i have a fileserver at .9, my default gateway is .1 the laptop can ping all 3 of those computers.i have a printer with .130 address, the laptop times out when pinging it. there are around 15 or 20 other computers on the network with dhcp assigned addresses.so far i cannot get the laptop to ping any of those.

I had both a Westell 7500 and a Linksys Router working fine and had my 360 setup as an extender for Windows Media Center so I could stream TV, Music, Movies, etc from my desktop to the 360. Then I switched my modem/router out with a Zyxel PH5001Z
So now today I noticed that I can no longer find my desktop through the XBox. I have adjusted my firewall settings on the modem itself, even completely disabling it. UPnP is enabled for the 360 and the device is showing under my device table. At first I wasn't able to ping any network devices but after creating an ICMPv4 Firewall rule it worked fine. I've confirmed the XBox IP Address through Network Map, the Device Table on the modem and through Network Settings on the XBox. I've diabled my modem firewall as well as Windows Firewall, completely and I still can't ping my XBox or set it up as an Extender.
I have the XBox connected wirelessly using WPA2-Personal and it's operating in 802.11g/n mode.
I bought a usb printer server to connect my usb printer to my router. USB cable to the print server and cat 5 from the print server to the router. The print server has a static fixed ip of 169.254.10.10 and a subnet mask of 255.255.0.0 I can ping the printer server and it works perfect from my windows 7 laptop. When I attempt to set it up on my windows xp (SP3) laptop I am not even able to ping the 169.254.10.10 address. On the windows 7 laptop i can navigate to the print servers menu by placing 169.254.10.10 in the address bar of internet explorer. No so with the xp laptop.What is different about the ip configuration between win xp and win7. how to get the xp laptop to "see" the print server. Want to keep the print server at the default settings if possible.

I have a sg300-10 switch. i update the firmware with the last one. Things are complicated when i create 2 VLAN. ( really 1 VLAN cause the first is native ).So i have the first VLAN with the interface 192.168.1.254 ans the VLAN 2 wich IP is 192.168.2.254
I'm connected with my workstation ( ip : 192.168.1.2/24 with GW 192.168.1.254 ) and i try to ping a web server on VLAN 2 ( ip : 192.168.2.2/24 GW 192.168.2.254 )
Ping is OK ! But when i try to reach any ports of the webserver : Nothing.
Cannot get the SG200-8 to mirror any traffic other than ping (icmp).
Factory default settings, with port 7 src to port 1 dst on session 1.
Pings mirror just fine. But other traffic. such as web and ssh, is not being mirrored.
