Remotely Connecting To A Network?
Feb 12, 2012
I do not want to connect remotely to a desktop (thats where all of my research keeps directing me to). I just want a device to be part of a network, without actually being there. Is this possible? For some context, heres what I am trying to do: I have a microchip (Arduino) which is connected to a laptop, which is not in range of the wireless network, but its connected to a 4g mobile network. There is an iPhone app called TouchOSC which can communicate wirelessly with this microchip, but only if it is connected to the same wireless network.

I am living in an apartment complex with free wireless Internet and i turned this old pentium 4 computer into a web/media/file server. I want to be able to access my server away from home but i am extremely limited and i can not forward ports and I have no other kind of network privileges. I am a complete idiot when it comes to networking solutions and I am trying to learn. I have a very vague understanding of vpns and dynamic dns services but i do not understand what i need to access my server from a different network. I setup dns services for my home server but still have not been able to resolve hostnames to actual y point to my server or maybe my networks firewall is blocking me.

My work has a main office and a backup office which is off site. What I am trying to do is copy a folder from one computer at the backup site to another computer at the backup site, all while sitting at my computer in the main office. Let's say the two computers at the backup site are called comp1 and comp2.Whether I use Windows Explorer, or .net VB script, or XCOPY from the command prompt, if I try to copy \comp1c_drivefolder to \comp2c_drivefolder from my computer then it takes an extremely long time - around 5 hours for 2Gb of data.
However, if I Remote Desktop into comp1, and from that machine copy C:folder to \comp2c_drivefolder then it only takes 5 minutesI can only assume that when I try to copy the folder from my computer remotely that it is transferring the data from comp1 -> my computer -> comp2, and with the computers being at different sites it's very slow. What I need to know is if I can do this remote copy using VB without the data going via my computer, i.e. straight from \comp1 to \comp2.
I thought this was the way Windows handled copying between networks anyway, i.e. straight from one to the other, my only explanation for the terrible speed is that it is going via my computer. I'm writing a basic folder-backup program in VB and would REALLY like to cut that 5 hour transfer time down to the 5 minutes I know the network can do

I got a bit of a technical problem with my DVR networking.
Devices used:
Telstra USB 4g Sierra 320U Aircard
Netcomm NB16WV - ADSL2+ Wireless N Modem Router with VoIP
TECHview 4 Channel H.264 Camera Kit Model No QV -3032
The Goal:We're trying to view the DVR over the wireless 4g network. We have the 320U Aircard connected to the Router and we're able to access the internet. We have DDNS set up in the router for the host name [URL]. I have gone into the Router with the IP address "192.168.1.1" and configured the device, we forwarded ports 80, 9000 and 18004 to the IP address of the DVR "192.168.1.103" And we also added our dynDNS details in the router. I set the the DVR with a static IP address to "192.168.1.103" and rebooted everything. I was then able to access the DVR via a Local Connection. But when I tried to access the DVR via "Redxdvr.dyndns.org" It would not connect.

how to actually run a .bat on a remote computer through ssh/sftp in a GUI. My problem is that I havent been using command lines for 15 years, I litterally have never used a command line besides using stuff like ipconfig in command prompt.I have a ssh server on my home server using FreeSSH'd and The only ssh program i can find with a gui is winscp. Though theres no option to connect through ssh everyone says it does and theres even options for it.
Though when i try to run the bat file i get this error"Current sftp -3 session does not support command you request" then something about a seperate shell session. if i click ok it goes down to starting the session then just sits there and says host is not communication for more than 15 seconds still waiting and only option is to abort.

I've just setup my router and dvr system. I have my DVR wired to a Linksys E1200 router. At home view by using url....it then prompts me to log in and voila I can view. I tried setting up the port forwarding although I'm not sure if I did it correctly or not. I got onto my routers webpage. Went to "applications & gaming" Named port, selected both, put in DVR's ip address and clicked save. Came to work and tried to view it and I just get the "cannot load webpage" page.

I split my network into 2 to make it more accessible during peak time and to minimize internet traffic. However by doing this only the first network can access our Network Access Storage, the other network can access it because the two are separated by different router and switch also the supervisor need to see both network at the same time for monitoring purposes..

Is there any way I can assess that LAN IP online at my house maybe a VPN?

I'm currently looking for a way to change all of our Laptop & Workstation (Approx 250+ machines) BIOS passwords using a remote tool if possible. The majority of laptops are Latitude and the workstations OptiPlex although most of the laptops have BitLocker activated. We also use Empirum software to push out software.
I have been looking around and into using the Dell Client Configuration Utility and also the OpenManage tool although I'm not too sure if they would work for us due to us using BitLocker.

As well as set up a static external ip address. The modem I have is an Actiontec Q1000 which also acts like my router. There are other things connected to the modem.

How to access remotely over the Internet to office PC from my home PC and get files that I need? Office's ADSL modem's model is BeWan iBox V1.0 and it has a built-in firewall. ADSL connection has a dynamic IP, which I assume should be configured as static (but how?) Should I investigate VPN capabilities as well? I'm not very knowledgeable about these things.

I use remote Desktop access alot for work but it seems a waste of power as for it to be effective I need to keep the computer on all the time. I have an old Ipod Touch, First Generation that I never use.. I was wondering if it is possible to connect the Ipod Touch to my desktop computer via USB.. If when I finish work I put the computer in sleep mode and then if there is any way that I could access the IPOD via the wifi (which is always on in the building) and make the ipod send a signal to the computer to boot it back up..
